How to Interpret Your Dreams

'Beautiful Nightmare Nights' by vacuumslayer - deviantart.com

We are such stuff as dreams are made on,
and our little life
is rounded with a sleep.
WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

Your dreams are yours alone. We all interpret dreams differently, based on our own personal internal dictionary of words, colours, signs and symbols. Using a dream decoder written by someone else will be next to useless except as an amusement, so instead I suggest the following technique, which is loosely based on the work of Carl Jung.

Image from lookingatlife.org.uk

I had a dream once in which I was running around in this pair of sparkly red shoes, talking to all of these bizarre and interesting people. It was only near the end of the dream that I realized somewhere along the way I’d lost all of my clothes except my shoes. Not that anyone else was noticing…

So let’s work with this dream!

1. Give your dream a name, like a movie title. Make it dramatic and meaningful to you!  Lets call my dream “Oh My God – Me Naked in Red Shoes”

2. Write down all the main characters. If they have no names, give them a description. For example: Me, Man with basket, Girl with dog.

3. Write a synopsis of your dream. This is like a summary, giving your dream a beginning, middle and end, where you put down all the main points, action and locations. At this stage in my dream about running around in red shoes, like a nude Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, I was pretty sure it was about me feeling exposed and vulnerable – out on display. Makes sense, hey? But bear with me, I’m not finished yet…

4. Write down any single image, phrase or action that stands out. For me, it was the image of the Red Shoes. These really stood out for me, as I’d NEVER in my life worn red shoes. (Mum impressed upon my sister and I that red shoes were very ‘cheap and flashy”. Mind you I have two pairs now… Sorry, Mum!) Trust me – when you think back on your dream there will be one thing, and it might be a very small or seemingly insignificant detail, that just sticks in your head. You’d think the thing that stood out from this dream would have been the nudity, but no. That’s how the red shoes were for me.

5. Now take a clean sheet of paper, draw a circle in the middle and write your image/action/phrase inside the circle. Do it just like the example below.

6. Draw several lines coming out from your circle – like little rays of sunshine a child would draw!

7. Now without giving this ANY thought (Don’t you DARE think!), use ‘stream of consciousness’ and immediately write connected words that you associate with red shoes, or whatever your particular thing is, coming off each of the lines. NO THINKING – JUST WRITE! My words in relation to red shoes were Television, Powerful, Confident, The Boss, Happy, Dancing, Joy, Self-Expression. Heaps different to my first ‘intellectual’ interpretation, don’t you agree?

8. Trust that what you bring through from your subconscious is actually what your dream is all about. All the rest of the dream is just filtering, and your BRAIN composting and analysing things.

Tips on Getting Ready To Dream

The Dream State is a powerful place for healing, transformation and Guidance. There are many ways that we can work with enhancing the dream state. These include reducing stimulants such as coffee and cola at least six hours before sleep, not going to bed on a hugely stuffed stomach, and avoiding arguments and violence or disturbing images in games, books or on television at least an hour before going to bed.

Dreaming Techniques for Conscious Connection

Image from daydreamdoodle.com

Get yourself a journal in which you can record your dreams, both waking (visions or daydreams) and in the sleep state. Before going to sleep, take half an hour to prepare yourself for conscious connection. Have a bath or shower, and imagine the water washing away any negativity.

When you are ready and warmly dressed, sit in meditation or lie quietly in bed ready for meditation. You may want to sip a cup of relaxing herbal tea first. It will soothe you and help you to move more easily into the meditative state.

Use a breathwork technique to calm yourself and slow your breathing. Give thanks for all of the positive events and energy you have encountered during your day. After drawing healing light into your body fill your body and aura with whatever colour comes to you. Literally fill yourself up with this colour.

Then sitting or lying quietly within your meditation, relax more deeply and offer up a prayer for Guidance. Ask that you be Guided in your dreams, and that you be opened up to higher and higher levels of Healing, Learning, Love and Light. Stay within the meditative pose for another ten or so minutes, being quiet, still and aware of any thoughts, sounds, images, colours or sensations that arise.

Record any information in your Dream Journal.

Before you go to sleep consciously ask to remember your dreams.

When you awake in the morning, keep your eyes closed, lie quietly on your back and do some breathwork, breathing in whatever colour light feels right for you. Visualise your whole aura flooded with this light.

Sit quietly and write any dreams or other impressions in your journal. (Make sure that you are comfortable and dressed warmly!) If you have time, once again sit in meditation for up to half an hour, and record any additional information or impressions that you receive.

♥ Wishing you sweet dreams! ♥

How to become more intuitive…

“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.” ~ Albert Einstein

All of us are intuitive but many of us become dominated by our minds, and as I often tell my clients, over-thinking chokes off our natural intuitive wisdom.

For those of us who have become used to living in our minds, connecting into this natural wisdom, and the flow of energy and information all around us can seem like an impossible task. But I promise you, intuition is your birth right – and the ability to be intuitive resides within every living thing.

Simple steps for increasing intuition:

The most important thing we can do in our daily lives to foster the development of our intuition is to make time for connection.  For some people this will be the first step in opening up to psychic abilities as well. It is vital that we get out of our heads and back into our bodies.

  • Drink more water – being hydrated always enhances connection.
  • Turn off the computer and the television and sit in silence.  This can be further improved by taking time to sit in nature.
  • Practice tuning in – by bring your conscious focus to something and then relaxing and stilling your mind, allowing yourself to become open to any impressions or information you might receive. (I know this can be incredibly hard at first for head-dominated people but it will get easier.)
  • Meditate.
  • Eat a diet rich in natural, fresh foods, which are full of vibrant energy and that clean up our own vibration.
  • Get enough sleep.
  • Avoid substances that dull our sensitivity, or that ramp it up in unnatural ways – such as caffeine, sugar, alcohol, recreational drugs – all of these inhibit true intuitive connection.

Guided Meditation to increase your intuitive ability

I’ve recorded a simple guided meditation to help you to soften and open up to your own intuitive connection. All you need to do is set aside ten minutes where you won’t be disturbed, and then close your eyes and listen to my voice.

Nicole Cody’ Guided Meditation for Developing Psychic Connection

With practice, you will find that intuition will begin to inform you, and better connect you into life and everything around you. You may also find that your abilities begin to go beyond just intuition, and into the realms of the metaphysical. (And if they do, I have tools and teachings for that too.)  Trust. Know that you are a spiritual BEing, made of pure source energy, living within a human body. All you ever have to do is relax, open and allow.

Much love to you. ♥♥♥

More Owls than a Harry Potter Movie

I came home from Bluesfest last night (well actually, only a few hours ago) too excited to go to bed straight away – another fabulous night of music and dancing, and feeling high on life. Ever since my wake-up call, I have never taken a single day for granted, and today has been one of those sublime sunshiny days and starlit evenings where I am grateful for every breath.

The moon was high and full, and as our bus wound its way down our heavily wooded country lane I began to feel their energy.

Owls.

There is something magical and a little spooky about owls. And lately they have been gravitating to our farm in larger and larger numbers.

One was waiting on the gatepost as we drove on by, our Murray Grey cows shining silver in the moonlight as they grazed the adjacent fields.

One called to me as I alighted from the vehicle.  As everyone else went inside I stood in the brisk night air, and communed with my nocturnal visitor a moment.

Another flew in and sat in the tree above me – two Masked Owls blinking lazily.

Behind me in the trees I could hear more owls, shrieking, whistling, calling…

One whisked past me, low to the ground, and alighted on the lawn.  This one was a Powerful Owl – a huge and majestic specimen.

I made a cup of tea and sat out on the verandah, feeling the mist off the ocean slowly settling in the valley around me and smudging all the stars into softer shapes in the sky.

A Tawny Frogmoth came and sat on the clothesline and was soon joined by two more. I felt as if I were smack bang in the middle of a bizarre Potter-esque Owl Convention.

This morning the Powerful Owl was still sitting in the teak tree at my front door. He watched me carefully as I did my morning qi gong and yoga stretches. It felt like he was waiting for me somehow.

When I went to go back inside I found a feather at my feet – a little piece of owl magic. I’ll weave it into a Dream Catcher to hang above my bed. Then perhaps my dreams can tell me why the owls are here, and what messages they have for me. I sense great change, great opening, and it makes me wonder what will come next for me. I feel like I am being called, but to what? I trust all shall be revealed in time.

Using Crystals to Access Information – Day Three

Using crystals is a great way to begin accessing information for yourself and others, and can gently open you up to greater levels of spiritual and psychic gifts and awakening.

Although quartz crystals are the most common stone for this sort of connection, I believe that you need to work with the crystal you are drawn to.  My very first working stone was an aventurine shaped roughly like a heart that fit nicely in the palm of my hand. (For more information on how to choose a crystal click here.)

Crystals are great teachers.  They can hold much wisdom, and allow us to tap into information stored within us, within our Higher Selves, within the Akashic Records, and within Guides and other energetic Beings.

When I was young I never, ever thought I would be able to channel or do work at the level I am at now. I was such a skeptic even though my own natural abilities had been evident much of my life. I was okay with receiving information as it came to me, but felt very uncertain about attempting to make it happen deliberately.  I was uncomfortable with even trying this sort of activity, but I found as my resistance decreased and I became more open, things flowed much more easily.

So it doesn’t matter if you feel awkward or uncomfortable with today’s activity – just enter with a sense of innocence and childlike curiosity and you might be amazed at what comes to Light. ♥

Meditation for Accessing Guidance and Information from a Crystal:

Choose a stone you feel drawn to work with, clease it and then sit somewhere comfortable so that you can follow this meditation.  You may like to burn incense or light a candle to further enhance your experience.

Nicole Cody’s Guided Meditation for Connecting with Crystal Wisdoms – Day 3

It is useful to keep a journal to record any impressions, information or names from your meditation sessions. You might even feel inspired to draw or paint!

(PS – The stone I used today during this meditation was a Canadian Labradorite – that’s it in the picture below.)

Storing and handling crystals

If possible, wrap crystals you are not using, or that you are transporting, in a natural fabric such as silk, cotton, wool, linen or hemp.  Use your intuition when selecting fabrics – maybe a patterned scarf, a scrap of velvet, a bag you found at the markets, or even a pretty handkerchief could be used.

You may also wish to place crystals on a window ledge, in a potplant, or in a positive energy place within your home.

Once you have cleansed your crystals, be selective about who you allow to touch them because stones will absorb the energies of the people who handle them.  You may find that there are some stones you need to keep just for you, while others may invite handling from anyone!  After working with a stone for a long time, and investing a lot of your own energy into it, you may find that just holding that stone will take you to a positive, calmer, more meditative or healing state.

Living as a Sensitive Soul

As most of you know, I’m psychic, and have been this way to varying degrees all my life. All of us are intuitive – that’s our birthright, and it’s hardwired into us. Even the most disconnected or ‘non-believing’ of us will still have gut feelings or hunches strong enough that we can acknowledge and act upon them.

But some of us have a much greater sensitivity than that. If you have experienced any of the following (not as a result of mental illness, or a drug or illness induced state!) then this post is written for you:

  • lucid dreaming
  • deja vu
  • precognitive dreams or visions
  • awareness about people, places, objects or events that has no rational cause nor explanation
  • an ability to know information about people
  • sensing the energy field around people or places, and having that affect your body or emotions
  • seeing energy, faces, or other images either in your mind’s eye or through your own eyes
  • hearing voices or knowledge not your own – either as a physical sound, or as a voice, knowing or thought that arises inside you that you somehow understand is not your own
  • having remembrance or recognition of past lives
  • being drawn to psychic activities and tools, such as cards, books, courses, modalities and crystals – where you feel compelled to have or work with these, even when your rational mind protests or doesn’t understand
  • sudden recognition of things previously not known to you – such as knowing the names or uses for things outside your profession or fields of study, or knowing your way around a place you have not ever visited
  • sensing, seeing or hearing Guides, Angels, those who have crossed over, and other energetic beings
  • connection with star people, recurring dreams about or remembered incidences of UFO or alien encounters – these are often not threatening or unpleasant
  • recurring dreams for which you have no explanation
  • a strong sense that you are here to do something, to contribute something, to help in some way – this feeling becomes stronger over time until, if you haven’t worked out what it is yet, it becomes almost a sense of despair or desperation
  • saying or writing things without knowing where the information is coming from
  • performing healing, art, writing, music and other creative acts where you suddenly ‘know’ what to do, even if you have never been shown before
  • understanding animals, children or others with no voice to communicate
  • sudden strong emotions flooding over you that are totally unrelated to what is happening right now

I’m sure there’s more that I could add to that list, but that’s a start…

If you’re sensitive energetically then you are bound to be sensitive in other areas of your life.  This is especially true if you are going through a process of spiritual or psychic awakening. At a time of awakening, energies and abilities that have been dormant within you begin to assert themselves in your life.  This can be quite a turbulent and confusing time.

From long experience, these are my suggestions about how to live as a Sensitive Soul as you begin to Awaken.

  • Rest.  When we’re growing and changing, rest is one of the best gifts we can give ourselves.
  • Avoid crowded places such as shopping centres and football games when you are feeling particularly sensitive or energetically vulnerable.
  • Avoid difficult relationships and people who drain, upset or unbalance you.  Limit contact with the crazy-makers in your life.
  • Eat well.  Favour organic foods, with an emphasis on fresh, local produce, with plenty of leafy green vegetables and root vegetables, rice, pulses and yoghurt. Avoid processed food and sugar. Some people may need to avoid meat at this time.  Others may need meat to ground them.  Listen to your body.  If you’re especially sensitive avoid wheat as well.
  • Avoid alcohol, drugs and stimulants.
  • Take a good powdered magnesium supplement.  Your muscles and nervous system use magnesium to relax and it we also burn it like rocket fuel when we are engaging in energy work and psychic activity.
  • Drink plenty of fresh, clean water.
  • Use yoga, qi gung or tai chi to ground you and move energy through your body.
  • Spend time in nature.
  • Spend time on your own, exploring the things that interest you.
  • Avoid chemicals in your cleaning and personal care products. Avoid places that have a strong artificial or chemical energy.
  • Use natural and alternate therapies to help clear and support your body.
  • Meditate.
  • Pray, and talk with God.
  • Explore vibrational therapies such as bush or bach flower essences, crystals, music, colour and aromatherapy.
  • Trust, look for support and know that things do get easier over time.

I’ve created a very simple six minute guided meditation to help you open to your spiritual gifts in an energy of safety and protection. Once you know the basics you can easily guide yourself through the process on your own.  Love and Light, Nicole xx

Cow-eared Dreams and Hathors

Hathor - Image from lovemamame.blogspot.com

I promised yesterday that I would write about one recurring dream I had as a small child. If I am honest, it was not one dream, dreamt over and over. It was one place, and one particular image, although the happenings in the dream changed – just as life differs from day to day, even in the same house, and with the same cast of characters.

I would often draw an image from those dreams: a really tall lady with cow ears and long hair, who wore a magical geometric necklace. She was much taller than the people around her.  In my dreams somehow this cow woman was me.

The place in my dreams was green and lush, a paradise by a river. The stars at night were glorious. There was almost always music, and sometimes the music came from me. I sang songs that used sound but no words. When I toned those notes they would vibrate through my whole body. It felt sacred, like I was singing to the sun and the stars.  I always awoke from my dreams feeling calm and comforted.

After adolescence the dreams stopped. I forgot all about them until one day I dropped a friend off at a meditation centre.  Back then I didn’t meditate. I was interested in being normal, invested in being a success in the corporate world.

I walked into a room with a poster on the wall.  This poster…

Hathor poster - image from thecentreoflight.net

My dreams came rushing back to me. I felt my heart constrict. I knew her face, not quite the same but so close I may have been looking at a sister. The face in the poster looked so like the pictures I had drawn, only she wasn’t wearing her necklace. I asked who the image in the poster was.

A Hathor, I was told.  I didn’t know what that meant. I felt uncomfortable to ask. I was far outside my comfort zone.

I stayed up late into the night, searching the web, and reading everything I could on Hathors.  Some sites said that Hathor was an Ancient Egyptian Goddess. But that didn’t feel right to me.  I was sure that Hathors were real.  Some sites said Hathors were beings who visited Earth but did not originate from our planet.

Part of me was horrified. Part of me felt relieved. Part of me felt like I’d come home. It was all so strange. I didn’t know what to make of it, and there was no-one to talk to about it, so in the end I put it aside. Anyway, what would people think?

A while later I plucked up the courage and had a necklace made to match the one I had drawn as a child. I knew its design by heart. It took months after I brought it home before I was brave enough to wear it in public. I never told people how I had come by the design, although many people asked me.

Looking back, I see how significant wearing that necklace was for me.  In fact, I didn’t realise until I was writing this how quickly my psychic gifts developed after that. It was as if I stepped into a contract with myself, or claimed a lost part of me.

I would never want to change who I am, or this ability within me. And while I seem to have so many answers for others, for myself I often have only questions…

I never see the Hathor in my dreams anymore, but at night, sometimes, I still hear her music.

Opening your Heart to Give and Receive

The Heart Chakra is both a receiver and a transmitter for love and wisdom. The more we open our heart by giving, the more we can connect into receiving.  This positive vibration of flow allows us to live from our hearts as intuitive, clear and compassionate beings.

Every heart is capable of hearing the whisperings of another...

Activity:  Our hearts love to love. Here are some suggestions for expressing that energy in the world this week:

  • Play with your pets, or go feed ducks in the local park. Animals are wonderfully intuitive, loving and giving.  Make a connection that expands your own heart.
  • Read to a child, or even to an adult.
  • Catch up with friends for a coffee, a meal or a movie.
  • Play tennis with a friend, or go to a yoga class together. Do anything athletic that involves someone else, some encouragement, some sharing and some laughing.
  • Visit or call an elderly relative or a family member who’ll be glad to see you!
  • Spend an hour giving random but sincere compliments to strangers. Tell the waitress you like her earings, or the supermarket boy that you’re grateful for the skilful way he packs your bag so your bread doesn’t get squashed. Smile. Leave a kind and supportive message on a pillow, tucked into a pocket, or posted on a blog.
  • Volunteer, and care for others in some way. Humans love to give, and to help, and to be united in the energy of that caring.
  • Plan a party or a special event to bring together people that you love, even if that event doesn’t take happen straight away.
  • Join a retreat, workshop or holiday tour and meet new friends.  Be open to connecting with others.

Journalling:

Meet your heart on the page. Take a minute or two to calm yourself, by closing your eyes and breathing deeply. Focus on your heart, and build that energy within you.  Visualise the colour green.  (If you wish, work with the energy of the meditation below before you begin!)  When you are ready start writing, starting with the words, “The thing my wise heart really needs my conscious mind to know is…”

Meditation:

This six minute meditation will help you tap into your heart’s own intuition and wise guidance, opening you up to deeper and deeper levels of spiritual connection.

Understanding Intuition and Gut Instinct

“Follow your instincts. That’s where true wisdom manifests itself.”  Oprah Winfrey

There is an unseen force that lives within each of us, and that connects us all.  We are energetic by nature, and that energy can guide us if only we can tune in to it.  One of the simplest ways to do this is by learning to honour our intuition.

There are many ways to do this, but today I’m going to focus on one: gut feeling.  Gut instinct or feeling is a primal response hard-wired into every human.

Gut feeling really does come from that area of your body – your abdomen.  It’s not a mind-based wisdom.  It doesn’t come from your heart.  It comes from that primal genetic material that is encoded and passed from parent to offspring.  In humans that is your original eight cells, which are located near your solar plexus.

So how do we tune in to this?  It’s easier than you think. Gut instinct does not use words or images.  Gut instinct uses emotions, and rockets along our central nervous system, which can also produce physical reactions.  It operates in 3 modes – neutral, forward and reverse. Some people call this the ‘sixth sense’. Some call it ‘mother’s intuition’.  Whatever the name, I’m sure you’ve all felt it and are familiar with it, whether you honour it or not.

In ‘forward’, we literally feel that we want to move closer to something.  We feel good about it.  We feel excited, happy and positive.  We can’t explain why, we can’t find the words for it, but we KNOW that something will work, that the person is good or honest, that this situation will be for the best, that this job/car/person/product/idea/food is the right choice.

In ‘neutral’ we feel indifference. There is no strong emotion or physical reaction either way.

In ‘reverse’ our gut is telling us to back away.  We feel unsure or uncomfortable.  The warning bells go off.  If it’s a mild response, this is where our brain often kicks in and invalidates our emotion (that can happen in ‘forward’ situations too!) by persuading our logical mind with rational thoughts and justifications.  In a strong response we may feel anxious or ill, we want to move back from this job/person/situation, we want to get to safety or a neutral space.  We can’t say why but we KNOW this won’t work well, this person can’t be trusted, something is wrong, it’s going to end badly…

This basic instinct is like a muscle – the more we use it, the stronger it becomes.  If we learn to trust it with the smaller things, eventually we’ll be able to hear and honour it with the bigger things.  This can be especially hard for people who are governed by their mind, which is why I recommend starting with small things that have no big ramifications in your life.

Here are some examples you may be familiar with:

  • Driving to work you suddenly feel like taking an alternative route.  You ignore that instinct and a minute past the turn-off you get stuck in a gridlock that makes you late. If you’d gone the other way you would have missed the traffic snarl.
  • In the supermarket you are drawn to a special: roasted chicken and a vast tub of coleslaw.  You really want to buy it, but that’s crazy.  There’s only you and that’s so much food.  You don’t buy it, and when you get home your sister and her family have arrived and that chicken and coleslaw would have been perfect…
  • You meet a guy, and your immediate reaction is one of dislike and distrust.  Everyone tells you how great he is, so you brush that initial feeling away.  Down the track your instinct is proved right when he turns out to be not-so-nice or trustworthy after all.  You kick yourself because you KNEW it all along!
If you’re a Star Wars fan you’ll know that Master Yoda, the great Jedi has much to say about the Force.  Here’s some of what he told Luke Skywalker…

“My ally is the Force. And a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us… and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this… [nudging Luke's arm] crude matter! You must feel the Force around you. Here, between you, me, the tree, the rock… everywhere! Even between the land and the ship.”

If Luke learns to master the Force, as other Jedi have done, the Force can provide access to even higher levels of awareness and intuition.  Yoda explains, “Through the Force, things you will see. Other places. The future…the past…old friends long gone.”

Animals don’t question that Force.  And because of that they are guided in incredible ways.  They trust their instincts. This youtube clip illustrates that energy and trust.  It’s magical…

Postscript: I’m a channel, and often that connection informs my writing. It means I sometimes write about things I don’t consciously understand or remember, which I then go and google (welcome to my life!) to find out their meaning.  That’s how I found out about the eight cells.
