Making Friends with Fairies

I remember when I first started to channel. This was twenty years ago, and I had read the first chapter of a book called Opening To Channel by Sanaya Roman and Duane Packer. Of course I was so eager to begin I never did read the rest of the book…

My sister dutifully guided me through a process, I made connection, and thus began a wonderful relationship with Rollo, one of my beautiful Guides.  Over the next few years I trance channelled many amazing BEings. Friends who had heard what I did would come (often bringing their friends!) and sit in our living room on nights when we would do a meditation and then I would  connect and channel for an hour or two.

What was most exciting for me, all this time ago, was that some of the BEings I channelled I had never heard of, and my sister would race off to the Library or New Age bookshop the next day and come home saying “I found them – they’re real!”. In those early days, when I felt so awkward, the positive validation that I wasn’t making it all up was very welcome. Thanks Sissy!!!

When this was all very new, I needed a person to ask me questions once I was in trance. I was aware of what was said through me, but it was like sitting in the back of a big auditorium, far away from the speaker.

So you can imagine my horror, embarrassment and surprise the day I heard my voice become high and squeaky, and I began to talk like a five year old girl high on red cordial and too much sugar.

“Hello. Who are you?” my sister asked, totally unfased.

“Oh hiya hi hi,” said this crazy little voice. “I’m Sokli.”

“And where you you come from, Sokli?” asked another friend in the circle.

“Oh, I’m a fairy,” she said. “I come from just over there (she named a piece of tangled trees and shrubbery not far away.)  Fairies are very geographically specific, you know.”

I felt myself cringe.  I was mortified.  How would anyone take me seriously?

But do you know what?

Sokli held everyone’s attention as she dished out earthy remedies, made everyone laugh and smile, and helped with everything from pet questions to general human health.

She was adored.

I have now worked with Sokli for twenty years, and she has become a firm friend. She has campaigned tirelessly for people to remember and honour fairies, and for us to love and honour nature and the earth. She’s bossy, funny, rude, cheeky, loyal, and totally passionate.

You can see her in the photo of the old teak tree at my front door at the farm at the top of this post. She promised me she would let herself ‘show’ so others could see her too.

I see her quite differently. When she’s moving she looks like a bright ball of energy whizzing around (she has lots of energy – that whole fuelled by red cordial kind of thing!). But when she is just hanging around, talking and sharing, she looks like the picture in the top left corner of the Art Journal I worked on yesterday (minus the wand…)

I’m co-writing a book with her right now called Things Fairies Know by Sokli A Real Fairy and her friend Nicole.  The title was her idea.

I look forward to sharing it We look forward to sharing it with you when we’re done.

And now a message from Sokli, just for you:

Hi, hi Hi!!!!!!!!!!!! Hello. I’m very happy to meet you and I want you to know that Fairies are real and we are kind of like Angels except Angels belong to Humans and the Skies and Fairies belong to Animals and Nature and the Earth. I know Angels are very popular right now but please don’t forget about Fairies. We can still all be friends.  Maybe today you can smell some pretty flowers, or watch a bird in the sky or sit on nice grass. We’ll be all around you, and if you’re kind and patient some Fairies might come over and say hi. Thanks for listening to a Fairy. We love youuuuuuuuu. Love love love.  Bye for now. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

  5. Dear Nicole and Sokli,
I’m overwhelmed by your friendship story. Would love to read more stories from you both. Thank you so much for your beautiful blog. It’s very special and important. I’m just wondering if fairies can travel overseas to different countries when people invite them . I would love to invite that fairy/fairies and an elf(I guess it was an elf -tall and slim and very graceful ) I met living in a small townhouse in Whistler , Canada in 2008. Since then I haven’t seen them, I went to another country and I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THEM AGAIN AND BECOME BETTER FRIENDS .Unfortunately I don’t even know their names, maybe Sokli could help me to find out their names and pass my invitation ?? Thank you so much !!Many, many flowers and lots of love to you both!!

    1. Hi Elena,
Fairies are geographically specific – that is, they live in quite a small area and stay very localised. But there are fairies everywhere! Sokli suggests that if you spend some time in nature ‘being happy’ where you live now, that you will easily make some new fairy friends.
Sending much love to you too,
      Nicole and Sokli

I absolutely love faeries and I’ve made it known to faeries I want them apart of my life…I’ve also left them many offerings and i sing and talk to them..but they never talk back or come..I’ve never met or seen one..I know faeries fly really fast and we often miss them but still..I have NO doubt they are real…but they don’t come..I feel that if they want to connect with humans then why when someone wants to be friends with them SO BADLY they don’t come….please help me..I want the same relationship that u have with ur faery friend. Maybe u could ask Solki to make it known to all the faeries I want to meet them and they can trust me? Please I’m desperate. I’ve always felt a little different from the rest.. And I have no real friends..I know the faeries would be the best most loving friends ever..so please help me …

  7. ohhh, fairies…. : ) ….. perhaps take a peek at the left hand side of this linked page…isn’t she lovely???…..she’s actually very precious to me…not sure “who” she is, but she is an encouraging and nurturing presence…. on this page, shes’ encouraging me to not worry so much…and has been there for 3 years… ( I used to worry more than I do now…but still learning to let go of doing that….) I put her on a photo of rock wall of a beautiful lush and magical canyon called “the flume”, near where I grew up in New Hampshire, 3000 miles from where I live now…lush, green, beautiful…maybe green like where you live now?…

  8. Nicole, thank you so much for this blog. Sometimes I’m the one who feels a little crazy for believing in faries. I feel them and so wish I could encounter one like Solki!!

  9. I made these cakes in spring with my grandmother to welcome the fairies in spring when its warm enough and instead of making 24 we made 18 and the rest of the batter we pour on a well greased with butter small cookie sheet and when cooled used her tiny thimbles that we cut the cake from the cookie sheet into tiny little cakes that we decorated for our garden faeries and then placed them in the garden among the herbs and flowers always with our tea sets i still do it every spring 54 years later
we served it with a special tea of many flowers and herbs we put them in a mason jar and filled it with water we put out in a special container on the night of the full moon in April you will leave it to steep the whole time while making the cakes, it has to sit receiving the sun and be sweetened by lavender honey

True Faerie Cupcakes with Sugared Flowers

These dainty confections, iced with a pale shade of royal purple, are fit for a modern-day queen and her retinue. Dark, indulgent brownie batter is baked in gilded cupcake liners. The delicate hue of the smooth topping hints at its soothing floral flavor and aroma, which are achieved by steeping dried lavender in milk. Sugared pansies and violas form a glittering crown for the little cakes, which are rich enough to replace the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

  12. My story in progress includes a lot of Fairies, so as always, your blog is quite inspirational. When I move closer to home, I’ve been given the geographical location of a Fairy Queen. It’s a trek, but perhaps my mind will be young enough to say “hello.” Loves!

  13. Nicole! Thank you sooooo much for this blog!! I have been so hoping that you would write about your connection with fairies and especially about Sokli!! I just LOVED this story! I have always felt that fairies were real, ever since I was young, but I have never been able to see them 🙁 Thank you so much to Sokli for sharing herself with us all in this blog 🙂 I can not WAIT until you book comes out!!
