The Healing Power of Nature

Lake Mapourika - New Zealand

“Make your heart like a lake with a calm, still surface
and great depths of kindness.”
Lao Tzu

Sometimes, the simplest way to soothe your Soul is to spend a little time in Nature. A walk along the river, a cleansing dip in the ocean, some time sitting on the grass or playing outside with our pets.

Nature has great power to heal and restore us. All we need to do is avail ourselves of that energy by spending a little time there.

Even in the midst of a city we can usually find a spot to hear the wind rustling the leaves of the trees, or feel the sunshine on our face.

Time spent in nature will fill you up, and give you peace. It will restore what is missing, and comfort what has become care-worn or broken.

You can be on your own, but surrounded by birds and flowers and trees. Or you can bring a book, a picnic, a friend…

And nature is surprisingly transportable.

You can bring part of it home with you, where it can continue to soothe and uplift you.

Potted plants, fresh flowers, incense, essential oils – all of them can help you find or create a better space.

And of course there is always the joy of the Farmers’ Markets:

One of my favourite things about the healing power of Nature is that possibility of re-discovering our sense of wonder. And we all need a little more of that in our lives. The video below demonstrates that magic perfectly! Wishing you a wonder-full day ♥

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

  1. Interestingly Nicole I have made two trips to the Pilbara recently. The vastness and it’s beauty is quite mesmerising…..guess where I’m going to move to shortly? It felt so right, so I’m off to pack up my house yet again! Life is so full of adventures at the moment and I’m loving feeling no fear of just doing it! Xx

  2. Oh my! The stream in your backyard is just STUNNING! I “fell” straight into it… how magical.

I bet Sookli just loves playing there too!

thanks for posting the photos, videos and your wonderful words. xxx

  3. The photo I like best of these is the river in your backyard. I like the changes in it, from the bottom on the sandy bank, then the water, then the light on the green of the clearing, then the canopy; and the variations within each. It is complex and beautiful.

  4. Lovely post, and I completely agree. A few days ago I was feeling a bit stressed and I took my mum out to tea and for a walk and I kept saying to her ‘right mum, we have to connect with nature’, as if she needed any encouragement. As soon as she’s in the countryside my mum becomes a different person, it’s as if she is part of it and I find that inspirational. She says she doesn’ t know what I mean by ‘connect with nature’ but I think that’s because she’s already doing it. Your posts have made me realise things about her that I haven’t really appreciated until now and I’m very grateful for that.

  5. AWESOME! i love that video, everytime i see it i feel uplifted! an aboriginal woman once told me it was like that in australia with rainbow lorikeets, “clouds of green” she described it. WOW!! let’s all nurture and bring back nature everywhere, loud, clear, alive and totally unbridled!! now i’m off to walk max (my poodle) in the forest nearby with my favourite healing crystal!! lol! lovely day to all full of flowers, friendship and love!!! sx

  6. It’s really beautiful and peaceful! Unfortunately nature is “tortured” in my country. No respect for it. we have no more green spaces, no grass, no flowers. It’s really sad 🙁

  7. I remember when I first moved off to my college town. Within a month I was going nuts, I asked my neighbor which was the quickest way to nature peace and quiet. He pointed at a road and said three minutes that way. Off I went and we were in the bush in three minutes like he promised and all the madness melted away! XO

  8. Love this clip…goosebumps….nature is amazing…I discovered a secret little stream near where I live the other day. Thanks for the recipe yesterday…bought the goodies…just need some condensed milk now. Have I told you lately how much you brighten each and every day for me..blessings of love and gratitude..X
