Writing Yourself into Abundance

Money frees you from doing things you dislike. Since I dislike doing nearly everything, money is handy. – Groucho Marx

Writing is a powerful way to get unblocked and back into flow, and one of the areas we often seem to be out of flow is around the area of Abundance.

Abundance can be many things to many people, but there is always one common component to everyone’s idea of an abundant life – an absence of lack.

So how do we write ourselves into Abundance? The first thing we need to do is edge ourselves out of limited thinking. You know what I mean – limited thinking is that space where we say to ourselves:

‘I can’t because I don’t have enough time, money, education, emotional support, skill, connection, opportunity, love, health, peace, stability, direction, Byron Bay Organic Donuts (trust me when I say if you’ve eaten one you know what I’m talking about) or whatever is your usual self-talk…’

Now what I’m going to suggest today may sound a little materialistic to start off with, but bear with me. This is a great process, and once you get into it it becomes fun, and opens you up to so many possibilities and new ideas, as well as the resurrection of old ideas that are lurking, starved and lonely, in the dark dusty corners of your mind.

This week we’re going to spend money!

Money by Salvatore Vuono - freedigitalphotos.net

Well, write about it as if we have that cash in our hands and can spend it on whatever we like…

Journal Activity

Your task this week (and into the following months if you enjoy this exercise) is to start at the smallest amount of money, and spend the lot.  You can spend more than one amount of money at a time, but you must spend in order: ie Cash Sum 1, Cash Sum 2, etc. You cannot move onto the next sum of money until you have completely spent the one before.

Simply write HOW you will spend the money, being as specific as you can. Feel free to get brochures or cost things out on the internet. Let your imagination go to town, and allow yourself to become emotionally involved in spending this cash!

This activity helps clear out our anxiety, fear and worry around money, and assists us to get to what we really want from life and for ourselves. Enter this activity with a spirit of adventure and curiosity.

It doesn’t matter how you spend this cash – it only matters that you spend it. Once you have spent the money, for the purposes of this activity consider that task done.  For example if you borrowed twenty dollars and you use your first Cash Sum to pay that back, tomorrow you don’t have to worry about repaying that debt – it’s done – so move on to the next thing. (of course, in real life you will still need to pay that twenty back…)

Cash Sums to be spent energetically

  1. $20
  2. $100
  3. $500
  4. $1000
  5. $2500
  6. $5000
  7. $10 000
  8. $25 000
  9. $50 000
  10. $75 000
  11. $100 000
  12. $200 000
  13. $500 000
  14. $750 000
  15. $1 000 000
  16. $5 000 000

Pay attention to how your feelings change as you go from the smaller sums to the larger sums. Write in as much detail as possible. Really let yourself play and have fun with this. Allow yourself to get excited. Know that what you are doing is actually the Law of Attraction in action as you inform the Universe of your intentions and desires.

Get a little creative…

You may also like to add images to your journal or create a dream board (here’s how to do that here) to inspire you or to anchor a particular image, activity, emotional state or object.

Spend up big and have fun! Love and Light, Nicole ♥ xx

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

  1. Hi Nicole, I have just finished this exercise. It was really interesting. Having gone from a high paying job, spending my money on things I wanted, to now working for myself and watching my pennies. I was surprised at the feelings I had on the initial amounts, being cautious and not wanting to spend. As I moved through it, my attention went not to the amount I should be spending but 1 or 2 further along. So I would bring my focus onto the amount I should be spending. By the time I got to the last one, it was about philanthropy, I spent not a single cent on me but on others. Thanks for this, it was an interesting insight, cleared blockages and opened my eyes. 1. Hi Becca – this IS a great exercise, and I hope your husband can become involved with you. It’s such fun to do as a couple, but more than that, it has the power to get you communicating, sharing and dreaming over the one topic so many relationship struggle with… money!

  2. looks fun! oddly enough I just did this process where you get a 10c coin and wrap in some paper, on the paper is written how much money you want to bring in, well that took a while as my mind attempted to ‘work’ it all out how much I need etc! The 10c paper wrapped is then buried in a flourishing pot plant! Will let you know what happens, AND I will do the above exercise , I have been enjoying journalling and your lessons along the way Nicole…I have been checking your website for trainings/retreats as well, cheers 🙂

  3. Nice exercise–thanks!! Last year, I created a vision board with the most outlandishly out-of-budget (or so it seemed at the time) itinerary for the year (new car, trip to India and the Himalayas, lots of workshops for Reiki and other spiritual endeavors, lots of books and CD’s to help fine-tune my awareness, creating magnificent paintings, etc.). Every single one of them came to fruition. Every single one. And, without going into debt. Yeah, abundance!

  4. I did something very similar to this a while ago and it works! I’m very glad to be reminded of it though, thank you Nicole, because I would like to do it again. I think some people (probably including me, if I’m honest) have a slightly guilty feeling about it, because it seems in some way immoral to concentrate on having and spending money when there are people with nothing at all, but it really can change your mindset and take away that fear of not having enough. I think that since I first tried it, I’ve become far more responsible about money and less liable to throw it away. Psychologically, it’s a very interesting and enjoyable thing to do and I don’t think it creates greed, but rather creates positive optimism about the future. As you say, it clears out anxiety about money and if you enter into the task with a sense of adventure it can be a lot of fun. I would like to try one of those Bryron Bay donuts!

    1. Oh Lorna, you would seriously swoon for one of these Byron Bay donuts. They have three types. The big traditional cinnamon sugar ring, a jam filled one, and a chocolate filled one. OMG the chocolate one… with its molten treasure of rich dark chockie at the core!

I have never seen money as a bad thing. Money is just energy, in a physical form. When we spend it we are creating jobs, and flow, and opportunity for others. If we have plenty, we are able to share and do good with it. When we have it, life is easier, and in that place of ease we are better able to shine rather than struggle.

One day soon I’ll write a post devoted to Byron Bay Organic Donuts, complete with pictures. Shame they can’t be interactive… LOL
      Much love to you xx

  5. Hi Nicole
I love this one. I have done this for many years and it helps you focus on what you would choose in your life. Thank you for another great article.

    sending you a BIG HUG.xx
    Love Jacqueline x

  6. This is so good, thank-you Nicole! I really look forward to your writing exercises, but this one in particular has struck something within me… This has been a really incredible tool for self exploration (in a positive / fun way) on how I truly feel about money and why. So much has come up for me and I didn’t even realise I held all of the associations and discomfort with money & having enough to take care of myself… I feel this is life changing for me.

    Thank-you so much x

  7. Nicole,
I have an idea that we relate to money like we relate to life, and everything in it.
So, this wonderful exercise you laid out can work for anything in life; time, relationships, stuff, etc. Thanks for sharing.

  8. Oh Nicole, I can’t wait to start this because right now I have fear/anxiety about money and am really struggling so looking forward to getting rid of these fears & having fun with spending money. I haven’t been able to buy myself or Kodey things for a long time. So to play with this I’m looking forward to. I will let you know my progress xx

  9. Reblogged this on Nikky's strength and weakness and commented:
I am reading a lot lately, and I love all inspirational posts. When I read that, the first idea was like Nicole said “I’m not materialistic”, but I finally realized how helpful this exercise is, because when we plan how we will spend the money, we can find a way to save it!

  10. That is REALLY Fun, and even while reading, I already felt excited about what I could do IF I had the money, and I believe that when we have a plan on how to spend money, we will find a way to get it!
