Knowing When to Walk Away

Walking away… Last Deviation by Seryia Uchina

“Sometimes walking away has nothing to do with weakness, and everything to do with strength. We walk away not because we want others to realise our worth and value, but because we finally realise our own.” ~ Robert Tew

You know the old saying I am sure.  The definition of madness (some actually say stupidity) is to do the same thing over and over, and yet keep expecting a different result.

Walking away is not an admission of defeat.  Walking away is about recognising our own boundaries, our own limits, and our own needs.

So how do you know if it’s time to walk away?  (And I’m not just talking relationships – I’m talking jobs, business deals, addictions, habits, workloads, friendships, situations… )

Look for these signs, and ask yourself honestly if any of these describe you:

If it’s just not adding up, no matter which way you crunch the numbers…

Any of these things are serious cause for consideration.

Life is short. For you. For them. If it’s not working, and you’ve done all you can do, or all you’re willing to do, walk away. Do it in your own time – there’s no need to make life harder for yourself. But do it. Do it because if you don’t value yourself, no-one else will.

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

  1. Hello. I followed through on a few of your posts today and links to others, on toxic relationships / letting go etc.I was wondering whether you had ever been in that type of situation and speak from experience or is it something you have learned from other sources.and people?

    1. Hi Elizabeth,
Yes, I have indeed walked away from toxic relationships and let go of people I loved, knowing I could no longer dance that dance.
      Experience is a powerful teacher.
Wishing you well in your own situation.
I’ll hold you in my meditations and prayers.
      Much love to you,
      Nicole
      xx

    2. You amaze me. Your posts are always so positive and I would not have realized the pain of your past.
As you say.. “experience”….. what a teacher.
      Thanks for your reply.

  2. Thanks Nicole,
Perfect timing. I’m about to walk away from a job I have been doing for 16 years and moving to a remote part of Australia. I have no job to go to, just my heart telling me to do it! Its never easy to make these decisions but something inside tells me it will be ok. I wonder what adventure awaits me?

  3. I read this a few days ago and keep coming back to it. Again, the timing of your post was impeccable.

Over two years ago,I made the heart breaking decision to walk away from someone I will always love. I still think about her many times every single day. Like Anita, I too often wonder if I made the correct decision. I think of ‘what might have been’ and sometimes ‘could I have done things differently’, but in my soul I know that nothing I ever did could have changed her behaviour and our relationship would still be the same. I know that for my best interest, for my health too, it was the only option. I tried many different approaches over several years and had thought that love could solve anything, but sadly it didn’t.

“Sometimes walking away has nothing to do with weakness, and everything to do with strength. We walk away not because we want others to realise our worth and value, but because we finally realise our own.” ~ Robert Tew

This quotation spoke volumes. Thank you for another wonderful post.

    1. It’s always heartwarming for me to know that my post was helpful to someone. I applaud your courage. It can be heartbreaking to walk away – but it’s always more heartbreaking to stay. Love and effort has to be a two-way street. Much love to you xoxo

  4. I’ve been following your blog for a while now, and have enjoyed reading your musings on life. This post however, truly resonated within me this morning. I decided to let go of a situation that wasn’t serving my highest good. However, over the last couple of days I have found my mind drifting back to the ‘what could have beens’. Your post was a perfectly timed reminder – walk away and let go, keep smiling from the inside out, appreciate the love of family and friends that surrounds me, continue healing myself, and keep my heart chakra open.

Life is easier when you flow with the universe, and trust that it is guiding you to a place a greater good and abundant love x

  5. I walked away from an unhealthy relationship with my mother. It was temporary, and things do seem to be improving after the break. I had finally realised the value of myself and needed some time out from the situation, even when others couldn’t see why. It has done us both some good, and hopefully more good will follow. Thank you Nicole xx

  6. Thanks Nic, that post so resonates, The tears were rolling down my face..😥😂😊Hi to Sokli, Rollo, Amon, and the rest of your Divine team… Have a beautiful day🌻
