Ghostly Messages and Weird Confirmations…

Most of you probably know that I’m a bit of a writing bender right now. I hadn’t expected to embark on a new project; I have two finished manuscripts to edit, workshop notes to write, and some courses to finish.  And of course I’ve started on my second novel with my husband.

This bender came about because last week Nicole from threedeelife made a comment on my post The Woman I Turned Away.

She said: Have you ever thought of doing a Young Adult psychic novel? It would be fantastic!

Of course I immediately discounted the idea. I have so much else on my plate. And, I wondered to myself, would anyone be interested if I did?

But somehow this Young Adult novel idea wouldn’t let me go.

I woke up at 1am a few nights ago with a head full of story. Yes, I thought, I CAN write this, because essentially I’ve walked this path, and writing about it will spark off awareness and recognition in so many of you. It’s the sort of book I would have loved to read when I was back at the beginning of my own journey.

The story has been pouring out of me and onto the page ever since.

On Friday night I sat back and finally took a breather.  My husband and I went out for dinner in Byron Bay, to one of our favourite haunts, Luscious.  We ate great food, caught up with friends, enjoyed a glass of wine, and then came home and sat in front of the fire.

A stream of new ideas and a new character came to me as I watched the flickering flames, and I went to my computer to get them down because I knew I wouldn’t remember with the same clarity come morning.

And then the doubt hit. Who will want to read this, I thought. Can I really tell it how it is? Can I really write compelling fiction about a young girl having a psychic awakening?

I began thinking about an element of the plot. Thinking really hard and searchingly. I wondered if readers would find it a stretch…

As I sat staring at the screen, while my husband sat nearby on the lounge, an overhead ceiling fan roared into life, startling both of us. We looked at each other, bemused, and then I stood up, went over and turned it off.  Somehow it had gone from off to on (and the highest speed setting at that!) with no help from us.

We went through the possible reasons for why the fan might turn itself on. Rats in the wall?  A possum? An electrical fault?

Even as we were listing them off we both knew we were clutching at straws. Stuff like this is not uncommon at our house. My sister still talks about the time she looked after our dogs and house while we were overseas and the vacuum cleaner started up, when it wasn’t even plugged in at the wall.

Items get shifted around all the time here.  Things go missing and turn up in the strangest of places. Jewellery does this so often we can laugh about it now. Lights turn themselves on or off.  Doors unlock. Objects just appear, like an owl feather on my pillow, or a book on my coffee table.

So, what did we make of the fan?

Dead person, I said to Ben.

Yeah, I think so too, he agreed.

Who? I’m sure it is my grandmother, who passed last year, and who was also very psychic. I took it as a sign.

Why? When the fan turned on I was thinking about souls who’ve crossed over, and how they can still guide us, communicate with us, and help us, from where they are. That’s what I’d wanted to include in my book.

I felt like I got a big ‘thumbs up’ from upstairs.

So I’m writing my new novel uncensored.  I won’t hold back.  I’ll tell it how it is.  You’ll all know that it’s just a story.  And you’ll also know that every word of it could be true.

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

  1. oh Nicole I so love reading your blogs. they are truly beautiful food for my soul. just like your blogs reassure me of so many things I’ve wondered about, your novel will be a godsend for sensitive young people who need reassurance and information from someone who has walked that path. I’ll give you an example from me although I’m not a teenager but I wished I had been able to read your blog when I was. I recently read about how you smell roses when one of your relatives is close-by. I marvelled at that and thought it was incredible. Last week in the middle of the night I woke up to the most beautiful smell of gardenias and knew instantly it was my grandmother whose favourite flower was gardenias. there are no flowers in our house and in my half asleep state it was amazing to have experienced that and I knew exactly what it was because I had read your blog. I told my mother about it the next day – my grandmother was her mother – and received the same reaction I now realise that I’ve had to similar experiences that I’ve told her about. She was dismissive and while it wasnt unexpected it was still upsetting. If I had read a book about a teenager on a spiritual awakening when I was younger I’m sure it would have given me great comfort and a feeling that someone understood. i am by no means spiritually gifted like you yet I certainly believe in, and have been drawn to, spiritual aspects of life since I was young. Please go out and send your beautiful, inspiring, uplifting messages and I will be certain to buy it to feel my inner teenage heart and soul 🙂 xxxx

    1. How wonderful that your grandmother came to visit you! It doesn’t matter that your mum didn’t understand or be supportive – your relationship with your grandmother is your own affair.

Thank you for your gentle support of my project too. It means so much to me.
      Love and Light,
      Nicole
      xx

  2. Yes to the confirmation/affirmation/spiritmation — We’ve experienced so many similar PK events like you describe; creative thinking seems to turn this channel on. Although I am a young adult masquerading in a extra-mature woman’s skin, I look forward to reading your new book. Spot on, Nicole!

    1. I think most of us feel like young women in older women’s skins LOL. My 97 year old Nana tells me she is still shocked some mornings when she looks in the mirror because inside she feels like she’s in her twenties still. Maybe that’s the secret to a long and happy life… ♥ xx

  3. spirit – wtf! turn the fan on in the middle of winter!!! wouldn’t be nice if spirit was a bit more more useful? like, oh say, gosh, all my clothes are washed and pegging themselves on the line, or my lounge is mysteriously vacuumed and dusted, goodness those sheets needed changing and it’s been ages since i cleaned the glass work, spirit you’re right onto this… do i need to show you where the silver polish or toilet cleaner are? nope? we’re getting the hang of it now! go for it spirit, whatever useful housework you want, it’s yours!!! 🙂

  4. Love it! 😀 And love the way it came about. So many things working together in synchronicity to bring about the big picture…Love it love it love it!! I have no idea how you manage to do all you do, including your amazing postings here on this wonderful blog. YOU are amazing!! 🙂
As always, my great honor and privilege to have “met” you!

    much love light and JOY

    1. I haven’t had a TV for almost 10 years now….and also meditate. Don’t sell yourself short! It is alot more than that! You must be super disciplined, and if not that, extremely enjoy all your pursuits (which is of course the ideal way to live). I have lots of things I love to do, but simply don’t seem to find either the energy at times, and at other times, the self discipline to get started with them. So once again, I say, you are amazing!! And truly blessed….as are all of us who have been lucky enough to find you through your blog
      much love light and JOY

  5. I love the idea of you writing a book on psychic stuff etc.We can learn a lot and not feel weird about different experiences happening around us.I search out for these types of books there is not much around.Keep up the good work, love to read it one day!xxx

    1. Everything I have ever known you to do has been invaluable and amazing, I am sure this will be no different. xx

  6. Hi Nicole, I had a chance meeting with you 8-years ago and for some reason your name popped into my head a few nights ago. I have received so much inspiration from your website and blog over the last few days ….. just when I needed it. Thank you so much. Re your book, God bless grandmothers!!

  7. Everytime I read your stories I am glued to them and I want to read more! I can’t wait for this book! What a brilliant idea 🙂

  8. YAY!!! This feels 100% right to me. So exciting!

As added encouragement, I will say that Diana Wynne Jones was absolutely one of the most important influences in my young life, and without a doubt my first step on my spiritual path (in fact, I refer to my experiences reading her books in my very first blog post!). Because her fantasy stories were always firmly grounded in the mundane reality, she allowed me to believe in magic, trust in the Universe, and develop a sense of wonder.

Your book will do the same for many young readers–a gift that will keep on giving long after they put down the book. For the readers who themselves have psychic abilities, but might be discounting or hiding them, your books will truly be a comfort.

It makes me very happy to know that I could serve as a link in this chain of creation!

    xoxo Nicole

  9. Yay~yay~yay for you Nicole.. Happy claps!! Of course we would want to read your books. Thankyou for telling us about all the things you do, because for me it especially means alot. I have for so long searched for explanations and confirmations from everyone that I was going a bit stir crazy because people didn’t identify with what I was saying.. Now I have found someone like me just more experienced, and learn a little from everyone of your posts or blogs. You are the kindest and bestest teacher.. I love your work, can’t wait to read your novels. Oh and I definately want a part in one of your stage plays!! Love to you and your writing. <3

    1. You’d be a great star in one of my screen plays! I sincerely hope that my writing will give others who are sensitive the encouragement to know that they are not alone, and some tools and advice for how to cope with that sensitivity.
Love love love right back to you xoxo

  10. I awoke this morning with a deep pain in my chest…I’ve felt this before…and as I read your post that pain in my heart surfaced again as I remembered a delicate gift that mysteriously arrived under my pillow as I slept a few years back. So it really was an Angel or spirit being?

I’m looking forward to buying all your books…Kindle versions please!

Much love to U always..pumpkin soup gently cooking & pumpkin scones about to go in oven shortly…so thanks for the sustenance inspiration as well…XX
