The Terrible Dream

I’m not usually one for bad dreams. Weird dreams?  Sure. And I’ve had more than my fair share of prophetic dreams.  But outright scary and disturbing dreams are usually thin on the ground at my house.

So what form did last night’s dream take?

Well, no-one I loved died, the world didn’t end, aliens didn’t invade and there wasn’t even a hint of violence.

In fact, all I dreamt about was blogging…

I’ve been a little unwell, and missed posting something yesterday. And in the depths of last night, in a waking moment, I worried about being able to write something this morning.

I drifted back to sleep thinking I was awake and blogging from my laptop in bed.  I was tired and a little confused (actually read that as rambling and incoherent) and somehow in the midst of this mad blogging frenzy I pushed the button.

It wasn’t a button I’d noticed before, but in WordPress’s latest upgrades they had helpfully added a DELETE ALL handily positioned right under the PUBLISH button. In my state of foggy exhaustion I pushed the wrong button.

Right before me my entire blog began to disappear.  Post after post dissolved into the ether. Before I could react it was all gone…

The rest of my night I dreamed variations on a theme.

This morning I had to check.  Was my blog still here?

Happily the answer is yes.  But one thing’s for sure. I’m going to download my posts somewhere safe.

Just in case WordPress does ever add that button!

How to Interpret Your Dreams

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

  1. How very disturbing. What it says to me is that you need to get all your posts into a book that your readers keep badgering you for, nicely printed on proper paper with no chance of being deleted at the touch of a horrible button. A big task, admittedly, but it’d be a wonderful resource.

  2. I love the picture.

I hope you can get only joy from blogging. You are not responsible for us, we can find other comfort and learning on the web or in real life. Your generosity in sharing all this delights me, and I love to read it, and it is not worth your stress- only, perhaps, creative misery, misery which leads you to quest for something better.

  3. Hi Nicole
Your post just reminded me of something that made me think of your blog a few weeks ago… A friend mentioned a page called ShareBook where you can publish your blog into a pretty book ( I think with the click of a button). Maybe it would be a nice keepsake?

Have a wonderful weekend, thanks for continually inspiring me x

  4. Maybe you need some R&R from blogging?!?! I’ve been in hibernating/cocoon mode for awhile myself and find it does wonders for me. I love seeing your posts every day, but honestly don’t know how you manage it. You are quite amazing. So maybe a little “you” time is in order? I’m sure we would ALL understand if you chose to take a small break.
with much love light and JOY
    Jane
PS: I am also planning to nominate you for Blogger of the YEar Award but because I am on a break, haven’t gotten around to doing it. Looks like someone beat me to it…so in the end, you will eventually be nominated a second time! 🙂

  5. Oh my gosh! What a scary dream! Thankfully it was just that.

You know, another archive is never a bad idea, even for a blog. For the posts I particularly like, I do save them as text files just in case. It also comes in handy if you take your laptop somewhere without an internet connection.

  6. I am always concerned right before I post or edit, I will “push” the wrong button and have to start over … so I can relate!

I do not “do” many awards, but I could not pass this one up in
order to pass it on to you. I have nominated you for Blogger of the Year Award for 2012
well deserved. Thank you for wonderful moments of reading in 2012.

  7. Wow that is a scary dream. Made me think about how the things we love and treasure can be gone in just a blink of an eye or in this case a push of a button. And in relation to your recent posts how the not so great shall pass just as easily. It is very humbling. Also thought about back-up plans. Like your other family here, I wish you rest and good health. Lots of love Anitaxox

  8. I love the days when you don’t blog cause i can imagine you resting, playing with harry and bert and doing all the things your love with no pressure. Message i got on your blog is to publish a collection of your posts in an e-book or something before the material disappears into the ether of time. lol! for the first time you were in my dreams last night, we were going on a big lunchtime walk between sessions at a retreat – it was quite funny actually, and a bit weird at times. take care of you (and backup your work at least twice, perhaps even on an external hard drive as well as your pc) hugs and infectious joy! sx

  9. Ugh – that does sound unpleasant. Do you know how to do an export backup of your blog? It’s really easy, and it’s under Tools – Export on the Dashboard. I do it every couple of posts just to be sure. It picks up the comments and everything, and downloads it to your computer so you can restore it if need be. I also subscribe to my own blog via email, and save the posts that way too. 🙂

  10. Once again Nicole your subject was just what I needed. I had a strange (not bad but very strange) dream last night about someone I hadn’t seen in a long time and didn’t particularly like last time I saw her and I was wondering what it all meant – especially as I was semi-naked in the dream and feeling uncomfortable about it! I will follow your suggestions on analysing my dream and see what it means.
Also pleased that your blogs were all still there and didn’t get deleted.

  11. I agree with Julia.
I was concerned your health had prevented you blogging yesterday & I’m sure like all your followers understand you need to put yourself 1st.
In a beautiful womans words, Rest well, knowing you are loved & thought of x 🙂

  12. Can I please give you one of my big big hugs and just with the greatest love ask the following?….who is pushing whose button? I feel like I am telling Erkhart Tolle to calm down here but does this mean you are pushing your self a little too much? I would quite happily miss a few days of your blogging knowing that it means you are resting and taking good care of yourself. Love and big hugs Julia

    1. I wholeheartedly agree!!! -“The needs of the one” are JUST as important as the needs of the many. Let us love you and hold you tenderly while you rest. You are so good to us and our needs, let us (with you) tend to your needs for a bit huh?….. XXX {{{hugs}}}
