“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”
~ Mother Teresa
There are a few things that have helped me to feel human again in the past twenty-four hours after days of being wretchedly ill. Such simple things, but they nurtured me, body and soul:
- a long hot shower, with neem oil soap made by a friend to soothe my burning, itchy skin
- clean sheets; fresh and soft and smelling still of sunshine
- clean pyjamas; old favourites – warm and comfortable
- a cup of milky tea – after a few days of no food it was bliss to sip and savour
- vegemite on toast – just a few bites, buttery and the vegemite not too thick
- an open window, and a gentle breeze
- lots and lots of sleep
The clean sheets and pyjamas were waiting for me after my shower. The tea and toast followed after I was tucked up in bed again.
It’s the simple things, always the simple things, that bring comfort, a sense of safety, and the knowledge you are loved.
What simple things can you do for yourself, or a loved one today? Everyone benefits from care and comfort.
Thanks for all your lovely well-wishes and messages of support. Am off to see my Lyme Doctor today. I’ll be back to normal blogging tomorrow. Much love to you ♥ xx
Much love to you too, Nicole!
Tea isn’t the only answer to life’s problems but in my experience it always helps. I hope you feel much better soon and keep giving yourself those little treats that make life seem more bearable.
There is nothing more soothing than a cup of hot tea… except to have that tea made for you by someone who cares.
Back in India, a scalding hot cup of tea is the answer to any situation!
You’ve got them all just right, Nicole! Even though it’s awful to be ill, all of those little things sound so cozy. Heal soon. xoxo
When I was young and I didn’t want to eat or didn’t feel well, my mother use to prepare me milky tea with tea cookies. 🙂 For the first time, I checked what really was Vegemite. I only heard it in the Men at work song.
You truly are inspiring.
that is so good to hear after the horror you have been subjected to……may these reports increase and the other herxing reports diminish…….xxxLyn
So wonderful to hear you are much better …small comforts …nothing better …enjoy
Cherry xxxx
Hope you’re feeling better soon 🙂 I have never seen Vegemite or eaten it. Is it like peanut butter? It looks black in your photo.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful thoughts and remind us of the simple things that can make us happy. All best wishes for a good recovery.
I so miss cups of tea and Vegemite on toast. Wish they didn’t upset my tummy so. Wishing you well.
Whatever works is good. Glad you’re feeling better!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful thoughts and the things that make you happy even when you are not feeling the best. All best wishes for a good recovery.
Hi Nicole, sending good thoughts your way, and hope you are feeling much better soon. Its amazing isn’t it just how healing and soothing a cup of tea can be. Here’s wishing you find comfort from that tea and loads of nourishing sleep!
Oh, Nicole, sweetie! Sending love and light to help you heal. It’s been said “a cup of tea will fix it,” and I agree….Feel better soon
Just drinking my morning hot lemon as i read this. good to read you are feeling better. Yesterday i did nice: reading, going to a new art gallery, swam in the sea- treated myself to a mud mask, a coconut oil and lavender bath and then into PJ’s.
love xxoo
Wonderful, I’m off to make my tea now! Yes very comforting… Have a lovely day! Love xx
Tea is a lifesaver…an aromatic cup with a dollop of raw organic honey always changes my perspective!
There are so many good cups of tea to be had! And so many flavours. Am sipping one right now – green tea, raw ginger juice, lemon and a dash of honey. Breathtakingly wonderful.
Ooooh, this sounds yum and just the ticket to feeling nurtured in the moment!!
