“Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend to them all the care, kindness and understanding you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again.”

~ Og Mandino

I have a favour to ask of you today. It’s just a small one, but I hope you will oblige me.

Today I would ask that you take a little time from your day to gift three small kindnesses:

1) A smile to someone who needs one.

2) A kind word or some small thoughtful action for another.

3) A small act of kindness for yourself.

Can you imagine how our world might look if more of us practiced a little kindness for self and others?

To be a Lightworker, we need simply to spread light in the world. What better way than with kindness? Kindness lights a way in the darkest of nights. Keep shining your beautiful light in the world. Shine some of it back upon yourself.

Sending much love to you, ♥ Nicole xx

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

  1. To me the most powerful scene in Les Miserables is when Jean Valjean is caught and taken back to be priest after Valjean had stole everything from the church. And the priest takes the two candlesticks from the mantle and puts them in Jean’s bag saying that Valjean had forgotten to take them also. This single act of kindness, generosity and forgiveness transformed Valjean from bitterness, hate, fear and despair – setting him on a path to help many others.

    The Starfish Story
    Original Story by: Loren Eisley

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed
a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean.
Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”
The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”
Son, the man said, “Don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!”
After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish,
and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said,
“I made a difference for that one.”

No single simple act of love and kindness is wasted. Just a smile .. a wink .. a pat .. can have the power and affect to change everything to someone else.

  2. Today a friend and coworker shared such kindness with me and led me to your website. I feel so blessed to have such positve energy shared with me. Thank you Allison.:)

  3. I am a new follower and thanks to your wonderful blogs I have found a new love for the world and all that is in it.
Instead of taking time out for me and what is going on around me I just was like a bull at a gate. I am slowly working at changing all that.
Thank you Nicole you are a true inspiration. xxxx

  4. I have experienced my life radically changing in a moment due to some stranger’s act of kindness and caring approach. I love the saying “Paying it Forward” and I will make every effort today to pay attention and “forward” that/those act/s of kindness. Special hugs to you Nicole for starters XXX

  5. It really takes so little effort to be compassionate and caring and nonjudgmental, but it makes such a huge difference to someone not used to it. I used to see that bumper sticker — practice random acts of kindness. I’ve always thought consistent kindness was a better practice. I’m going to try that extra bit harder tomorrow. Thanks for your inspiring pictures and words.

  6. Just the idea of treating people like they might pass away this very day is definitely going to make a difference in my actions. Gosh! Thanks.

  7. I do this all the time. I will go out of my way to compliment a well dressed person; some beautiful, striking feature of them; or will pay a person’s bus fare. I carry a monthly pass, but I tend to keep prepurchased tickets with me at all times. Sometimes, someone doesn’t have change, or someone has no fare at all and they are being polite, but the driver is being a jerk and not helpful at all. That is when I swoop in, drop in the fare and stare at the driver, daring them to challenge my act and the person’s right to ride. A time or two, it became a huge deal because the driver was being more than just a jerk…they were being down right bullying and prejudiced of a person’s circumstances based on assumptions. I *will* defend a poor/homeless person’s right to be treated as a human being, not trash to be tossed aside.

I have successfully taught my children to give to those who ask…IN THEIR HAND. Not dropped into a hat as if there’s something contagious about them. Look them in the eye, smile and say hello. Let them know they are seen and are worth the time and effort….they are human! I have had some very proud moments of watching my children take out of their lunches, run up to a person begging on the street and hand it to them…without my prompting. Without judgement.

I have explained to my children that, yes, sometimes such a person has drug/alcohol issues and will spend the money on such things. But that is their right. At the end of my day, I like to have a bit of comfort…why shouldn’t they? In fact, their lives are harder than mine!! If anyone deserves a bit of human comfort, I believe they do. We are not the ones to judge how they use the kindnesses given. We don’t know the struggles they face each day. If someone is willing to be polite and simply ask, I will give what I have to give.

Sorry if this sounds soap boxish…not meaning to be. But it is something that is very close to my heart.

    1. Angelica, your children are lucky to have a Mum who teaches with such great examples. And the recipients of your unconditional kindness are also blessed.

  8. So true..I see it all around and it bounces back to me just when I don’t expect it and most need it..happy day to you sweetheart…X
