NaNoWriMo time…

“There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.”
~ Ernest Hemingway

November is National Novel Writing Month, lovingly abbreviated to NaNoWriMo (pronounced nano-ry-moh). It’s a crazy time where writers commit to writing a novel in a month. Well, 50 000 possibly very bad words, but words none-the-less, between November 1 and November 30.

The goal is to get a finished draft, or at least a decent-sized chunk of a finished draft. There are daily word counts to be achieved, and a website where you can update your progress. The knowledge that there are thousands of other writers around the world madly writing with you provides moral support and inspiration.

This year (about ten minutes ago) I decided to commit to getting a particular manuscript finished in November (Yay!). On top of normal life, blogging, recovering from lyme and getting back to work. I mean, really, what’s a few thousand extra words each day?

Feel like joining me? Do you have a book idea (fiction, non-fiction – I don’t think it matters…) that you’ve never really gotten around to?

Would your life be better off if you actually FINISHED a book project?

Is there ever a better time to start?

Come on. Sign up with me for a crazy month of writing, word counts, deadlines and insanity. It will be fun. Or at least there will be words…

You can find more information or sign up here

If you decide to join me let me know in the comments section below, or over at facebook, so we can buddy up and cheer each other on.

Okay. Let the writing madness begin.

I’m starting… NOW!

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

  1. I love this idea. It’s scary. It’s terrifying. I’ve just finished writing my thesis, and while I do want to get back into creative writing, the idea of working to another rigid deadline is agonising. BUT it may be just the thing I need… I’ll think about it. 😛

  2. I can’t believe I’m doing this given that life is so busy, but I am opening myself up to a flow of words and look forward to where this adventure takes me ….. so yes, I’m in Nicole!!

  3. Yay! Good luck!

I signed up for Nanowrimo two weeks ago and haven’t come up with an idea to write yet. I have a novel in progress so it feels pretty… crass… to ditch the one I’m writing to write a brand new one. I can’t do it!

I am doing NabloPoMo though – the blog version of Nanowrimo: write a post everyday. It’s more in alignment of where I am.

One day though, Nanowrimo, I will court you, date you, marry you, and then leave you with gratitude for all that you have given me. Until then…

  4. Hi Nicole I love your enthusiasm . I wrote a whole book a number of years ago and I have two half finished books (never published of course ). I have found poetry a little easier to get down to over the last year or so but lately I haven’t even been doing a lot of that either . It has got me down, not writing , because it has always been a way for me to express myself but for some reason I will not push myself . Then all of a sudden I being blasted with writing competitions and scraps of magazines with writing articles ,that I have suddenly found. I ‘d kept them years ago to give me encouragement and now YOU !!!! …I JUST CAN’T BELIEVE IT . I think the universe must be telling me something …What do you think ? I just might give it a go . Good luck with yours .
