Where did my day go?

“Time was passing like a hand waving from a train I wanted to be on.” ~ Jonathan Safran Foer

I lost a whole day.

I lost yesterday.

One moment I was about to go to bed, ready to wake up in the morning and do, well… stuff, I guess.

The next thing I know an entire day had slipped past and I missed it.

It’s a little weird and disorienting to wake up and have no idea what time it is, what day it is, or what’s been going on. It’s ever weirder to learn that you’ve lost a day in the way that other people might casually misplace their sunglasses or house keys.

Where was I, while yesterday was passing by?

I know one thing. There were dragons. Friendly, with a preference for iced cakes and watermelon. That’s really all I remember…

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

  1. i used to lose days when doing night duty as a student Nurse in winter in England. Go to bed before it was properly light and when you woke up it would be dark again. I used to wonder..is it 6am or pm.?

  2. Gosh I have never lost a day but if I could share my lost day with friendly dragons, who had a passion or iced cakes and watermelon, I’m willing to share mine .

  3. Love it…loosing a day and meeting a gentle ice cake eating dragon how sublime and how nonchalant and utterly totally absoloutely chilled out he/she sounds. What a lovely way to find yourself spending a lost day… x

  4. “Where was I, while yesterday was passing by?” you ask Nicole.
Wow, wow, wow – overwhelmingly I feel you were in the perfect place. I sit here in awe of a healing journey that can take you to that place with total abandon and disregard for our concept of time. Personally if that is what it takes for you to heal, I wish you many more ‘lost days’ on the journey ahead. We will no doubt survive the experience of missing days of blogging with you Dear Nicole, and there will be cause to celebrate even more the difference you make in our lives when ‘you come back’. Reading your message I just don’t get that you are particularly ‘distressed’ by your lost day. I just sense the perfection of remembering hanging out with dragons with a preference for iced cakes and watermelon. How delightfully delicious a way to spend the day!!! Maybe I just ‘get it’ because I was born on a ‘day out of time’. Many blessings to you and your dragons.

  5. I hate days like that lol but I normally justify it by thinking it was because I needed the nap…my body needed to recharge from a long week at work. Or maybe warding off a cold. Dreaming about dragons is a good thing 😉 and if they eat your beautiful cupcakes that’s only a plus. You do beautiful work btw. 🙂 Have a wonderful productive day today!!
