Sleepy Sunday Morning Triumph

“If you feel lost, disappointed, hesitant, or weak, return to yourself, to who you are, here and now and when you get there, you will discover yourself, like a lotus flower in full bloom, even in a muddy pond, beautiful and strong.”
~ Masaru Emoto, The Secret Life of Water

This beautiful water-lily grows in a cattle trough at the bottom of my front garden. All summer the cows in the front paddock have happily eaten every single tasty flower bud as it emerged from the water.

Harry, in his naughty puppyhood, would grab the wide leaves and pull, ripping them off and flinging them to the ground.

This lily has had a hard season.

We moved the cows to the river paddock three weeks ago, and now Harry sneaks off to the river each morning to play with Daisy Mae (his best friend, the calf).

In three short weeks the lily has thrived.

Here is the first bloom of the season, just emerging from bud.

Sometimes, like this flower, we are late bloomers. But all of us shall get our season.

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

  1. I love your post and picture. You have done a great job! I love flowers and stories about animals. I was raised on a dairy farm part-time and I can relate to the cow story. 🙂 I also have a puppy that we should have named ‘Hooch’ from The Turner and Hooch movie as he is a one puppy recking machine! He has discovered the toilet paper! Needless to say, it has been unrolled, chewed into bits and all over the floor!
