“Rule number one of farm life is that the cows get out or in to the wrong paddock at the most inconvenient time! You should know that by now, Nicole. Go put your boots on.” ~ Ben Phillips
There was a heck of a commotion outside our house gate this morning. Just as I was sitting down to write a very different blog post to this one. A mob of angry cow mothers were calling their recalcitrant young ‘uns who had slipped under the fence in the dead of night and who were busy feasting on my parsley, sweet peas and strawberry plants.
We’ve just finished mustering the seven naughty calves back out the side gate. It took over an hour because they kept scattering in all directions.
I mustered on foot, in pyjamas and boots.
Now I’m cold and muddy and I need a shower pronto!
But the babes are back with their mums and order is restored.
Time for a coffee date with Ben and Cafe Dog. 🙂
I’m sorry for your distress but that was one heck of an image you have left us with. I shall smile all through the night thinking of you in your bare feet and pajamas chasing calves. :))
The calf looks quite defiant–“I’ve done nothing wrong!! Why are you looking at me like that?!”
Aw, at least it was a break IN! Years ago one of our bulls decided to break out..oh boy, that was BAD. The neighbour had synchronised his rising 2’s and put them in the boundary paddock, yes the BOUNDARY paddock, what’s a bull to do? Let’s just say the vet did well out of it all.
Hey Harry and Bert get off your butts and heard those calves. Ya for sure… I have five heelers and they don’t do a thing ..just look and say oh well later with that we are tired. They do like to rustle the sheep though.
Hell!
Such naughty little calves
Sympathies! Nothing beats jumping into cold gumboots in the morning and running around the garden in my p.j.’s to make of a hot shower and cuppa feel like heaven on earth.
I’ve given up on the garden until I can build a 6′ solid stone fortress around it. But I draw the line at them coming into the house. Cries of “Mum the sheep are in the kitchen” cause strong words and speedy action several times a year. As for the ducks and chooks….
Enjoy your cup of tea.
a day on the farm… that I will never encounter…but, love reading about yours!
hahaha our neighbours cattle got in our place once – they were chomping on hay near our back door – so funny getting them back to where they belong 😀
ooh naughty kids ! sounds like 2 year olds, run the opposite way when you call them !!! xxx
