Boots ‘n’ All

“It is only with true love and compassion that we can begin to mend what is broken in the world. It is these two blessed things that can begin to heal all broken hearts.”
― Steve Maraboli, Life, the Truth, and Being Free

That, my friends, is photographic evidence of true love.

Me in my gumboots, Ben in his farmboots. A recent night photo.

True love is a man who has walked a thousand miles across night-dark paddocks holding my hand as I have tried to walk out the pain or walk myself to sleep from Lyme.

In these boots we’ve bounded through the garden in our pyjamas, chasing pesky calves from the vegetable patch.

We’ve attended to birthing cows.

Trudged through swollen creeks to check fences and storm damage.

Danced our hearts out at Bluesfest.

Gone to town during the rainy season for a coffee with Cafe Dog.

Picked fruit in the orchard.

Visited the farmers’ markets in all weather, braving mud and tempest.

Not fancy, those boots. No. They’re sensible, sturdy, practical, reliable, durable. Built to last. Among my blessings today, I count these boots, and my gratitude for walking hand-in-hand with a boot wearing man.

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

  1. What a wonderful man, your Ben! That is the depth of true love. Being right there, when he knows he can do nothing to relieve your pain, but gives you his heart, by holding your hand and being right by your side when the going gets tough. Even in the thick of the night, no matter what the weather. That is gold! The love you have for each other is very precious and no doubt, if Ben is going through rough times, you are right there for him. Bless you both. Oh by the way….love the travels of your boots!

  2. My heart is so happy for the both of you. With all you have had to endure, at least you have a good man by your side. Those of us who have not been so lucky in love are quite envious but are always delighted that there are still those that have found that kind of love.
