In Order to Really Hear You Need To Stop Talking

“For now she need not think of anybody. She could be herself, by herself. And that was what now she often felt the need of – to think; well not even to think. To be silent; to be alone. All the being and the doing, expansive, glittering, vocal, evaporated; and one shrunk, with a sense of solemnity, to being oneself, a wedge-shaped core of darkness, something invisible to others… and this self having shed its attachments was free for the strangest adventures.”
~ Virginia Woolf, To the Lighthouse

I’m leading a retreat right now, focussed on helping people to connect to their intuition.

Intuition is something all of us have. But often we come to a place in our lives where we can no longer hear that wisdom. Our inner voice becomes drowned out by the relentless chatter of an over-busy mind.

What helps to restore that flow is silence. When we cut out the television, the internet, the text messages. When we cut out the conversation and the need to be present for others, when we strip away the external distractions, then..

…then we can begin to be present for ourselves. We can become witness to our own truth. We can learn to hear and trust our inner voice.

Today on Retreat we are going to enter that quiet space. And in that space, I know that we shall find ourselves.

I expect it to be a day of high emotion. Reunions are like that. To be home with ourselves again will be at once strange and oh so beautiful. But a little scary too, after having been apart for so long.

How about you? Can you find some quiet time to reconnect? I promise you it’s good for your soul.

Much love to you, Nicole <3 xx

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

  1. So glad I went to the comments section! I have a hard time finding the quiet. I know its there — I sense it in the corners of my mind. I will be more purposeful in coaxing it front and center!

  2. When I tip toe down stairs in middle of the night it’s pretty silent . There might be a distant snore from Oscar upstairs but other than that silence …I will listen to that inner voice .🌾

  3. Love that quote.. So many are so busy talking they can’t hear something important to them. I’m having lots of quiet time since there is little else I can do but sit quietly. Waiting for the eye to heal. Doing some writing. when I can see the words. This is hard to see too. 🙁
