What Divine Intervention Looks Like

“I don’t want to live in the kind of world where we don’t look out for each other. Not just the people that are close to us, but anybody who needs a helping hand. I can’t change the way anybody else thinks, or what they choose to do, but I can do my bit.”
~ Charles de Lint

Yesterday, in the middle of the night, I received a facebook message. How did I know that? My phone dinged. I’d forgotten to turn off the ringer, and I’d forgotten to take it downstairs to put on the charger as I usually do each night. So as I turned it to silent I glanced at the message.

It was a reader of my blog. Alan – a 36-year-old man in Canada. A man in trouble. He has schizophrenia, induced from illness after travel vaccines many years ago. His illness has become uncontrollable. He has miserable side-effects from his medication. Alan was thinking about committing suicide. In fact, he was ready to take an overdose, and just wanted to reach out to me first.

As I texted with him on my phone I opened my iPad and brought up messenger. Another blog reader I know lives in Canada. I’ve never met her, but we’ve exchanged many messages. Susan is a mental health nurse. I thought maybe she could help.

I asked Alan for his address. Susan coincidentally lives in the same city. As I kept chatting to Alan via text and then Skype my friend made a call. She has two male colleagues, also mental health nurses, who live literally a block away from the man who had reached out to me. As I kept skyping, they went over to Alan’s apartment.

They knocked on his door and I told Alan that some friends were there to help him.

My involvement then ended.

I’ve heard this morning that they were able to get Alan to come to their workplace, where he was assessed by a new doctor. His previous doctor had not reviewed Alan’s meds in over ten years. The new doctor believes that the medication was unsuitable and was compounding Alan’s problems.

Alan is now in care, being assessed and getting help to come back to a place of balance. Thank goodness for my friend, Susan and her caring colleagues! Alan sent me a message this morning to thank me, and to tell me that he feels hopeful for the first time in many years. He has been offered a place in a support program.

What are the odds that a virtual stranger could contact someone on the opposite side of the world, and receive help from around the corner?

I’d call that an everyday miracle, wouldn’t you?

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

  1. I read this after thinking of you today. I thought of your dedication, getting up at dawn and meditating – hard at work so you can lightwork for others, for humanity. Thank-you for your commitment to others in the midst of fighting your own battles with Lyme disease. You’re wonderful and amazing. Xxx

  2. This made me weep for so many reasons. There are no accidents. Forgetting to turn off your phone was no accident. Like you said, Divine intervention. That help was around the corner was no accident. I’m with you on Divine intervention. The fact that inoculations could have started the schizophrenia makes me wonder how many others are suffering from similar reactions. I also don’t want to be in a world where we help each other. Thank you for sharing this.

  3. Social media aND technology, indeed have their downsides but this is such a beautiful example of how truly blessed we are to have access to both of them. I do NOT believe in coincidences in this universe and again, a wonderous example of that principle at work, you unknowingly broke your routine but the universe KNEW and a soul is still walking this physical earth and receiving the valuable life saving aide he needs. Thank you, Nicole!

  4. You didn’t “forget” to turn off the ringer on your phone, and you didn’t “forget” to take it downstairs to put it on the charger…..the guardian angels all around made sure you were in “Alan’s” path to intervene in his behalf. You have an amazing gift and are an amazing light worker – saving the life of another is a true miracle indeed. Blessed Be.

  5. Together we can do anything – that was inspiring and so glad “Alan” is getting the support he so desperately reached out for. I work as a support worker in Mental Health “industry” and have questioned my place in it so many times – I care for 12 women, all chemically lobotomised on medication that also rarely gets reviewed; I deal with Case Coordinators who just dump their clients with us and then resent it when we contact them with reminders or updates and alerts. I see some of the women pacing and crying and generally wandering about with mental fatigue and confusion….I do what I can but mostly I just despair for so many others out there, including a family member rendered virtually brain dead with the plethora of medication he is prescribed, existing from day to day – the monotony they must experience would mean death to me. I am so grateful for my life – keep well people and Bless You Nicole!

  6. Hi…just wanted to thank you for sharing that story. Wow….a miracle for sure and when you consider the odds it becomes even more fascinating. You truly are an angel. Rita (from Canada) On Jan 26, 2016 3:00 PM, “Cauldrons and Cupcakes” wrote:

  7. I had goose bumps reading this. Thank you Earth Angels for helping Alan. Sending Alan best wishes knowing he is loved and cared for. Thank you for this amazing story.

  8. So heartwarming to read about those miracles Nicole and thank you for your beautiful Australia Day message yesterday which I am sure would have resonated for so many of us. You have a way of expressing what others find difficult and you are doing a wonderful service in doing so.

    1. So agree with you Anne – I totally resonated with Nicole’s sentiments on Australia Day. I personally never observe it and worked instead! Take care!
