Strengthening our Essence

“Living is about capturing the essence of things. I go through my life every day with a vial, a vial wherein can be found precious essential oils of every kind! The priceless, fragrant oils that are the essence of my experiences, my thoughts. I walk inside a different realm from everybody else, in that I am existing in the essence of things; every time there is reason to smile, I hold out my glass vial and capture that drop of oil, that essence, and then I smile. And that is why I have smiled, and so you and I may be smiling at the same time but I am smiling because of that one drop of cherished, treasured oil that I have extracted. When I write, I find no need to memorize an idea, a plot, a sequence of things: no. I must only capture the essence of a feeling or a thought and once I have inhaled that aroma, I know that I have what I need.”

On Retreat today Sokli and I are teaching the class how to make essences. We’ll start by tuning in to our own, working in meditation with our chakras and our soul awareness. Then we’ll begin learn how to tune in to the essence in others.

An essence is the core qualities of a thing: be that plant, rock, bird, person, place, experience…

We’ll work to take the essence of a tree or a plant and put it into a bottle. Then we’ll be able to take those drops as medicine to help give us a little of the qualities and energy of that tree or plant.

We’ll also make oils that are infused with the essence of crystals and helpful herbs – things that we can rub onto our skin or breathe in or diffuse.

It’s a day of quiet alchemy and craftiness, of meditation and time in nature, and of sisterhood as we sit together making our potions and lotions.

I wonder, is this the kind of thing you’d like to learn? It is certainly something we could turn into an online course, and even into a workshop or a weekend retreat. If there’s enough interest Dana and I will put something together for next year.

Meanwhile I promise to post some pictures tomorrow so that you can see what we’ve been up to.

Thinking of you all and sending so much love,

Nicole  xx

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.
