Breaking Curses – Leaving Fear Behind

“There is only one curse that really exists and that is to believe naively that curses really exist!”
Mehmet Murat ildan

Every year I receive messages from the public or see clients who tell me that all of the suffering in their life is because of a curse someone has put upon them on or upon their family. These people are earnest, in fear, and often in a bad way.

Here’s a recent example:

I am struggling with life. Had a Aunty from Croatia who is a Nun put a family curse on my mum and her children (my brother and I)  Then my father passed away.3 days prior to his 53rd birthday day and was buried on his birthday. The next day I was married to my first. The church burnt down 1year after our marriage and the reception hall burnt down the second year after the wedding. And a lot more. Now I become successful and then fail. I am so broke now at 49 and haven’t even a home or a car. Do you know how to break curses? Ps The Curse came as a Voodoo doll of a woman stuffed with pins. We later were told the pins were cursed. Mum’s finger was pricked.

Every time I read these, or hear the stories from my clients I feel so saddened. Fear has run their lives, and their minds have become magnets to drawing more negative events into their lives.

But why? Is there power in a curse?

Only if you believe there to be.

Our minds are powerful things. Much more powerful than we really understand. And the power of our own mind can always overcome the thoughts or energies of anything external to us. But for that to happen we must believe in our own power.

Think for a minute about someone you know with a completely different religious or political view to you. No matter how much they argue with you, or try to cajole or convince you they can’t change your mind. You know what you believe, and you sit in certainty with your belief. Their words roll off you with no impact. You might actively tune out to their conversation. You just don’t buy into what they are saying. You’re empowered in your own belief.

Many of my readers and community members will feel like that when asked about voodoo, spells and black magic. We don’t even think about it usually. It’s not a part of our world, or our belief system. For us it holds no power.

The power of a curse is the power that we give it. If we give it power our own mind attracts and manifests all of the problems that flow from that belief. Our thoughts and words have power. The more we talk about the thing, and think about the thing, the bigger its energy becomes. (And this is true for ANY belief we hold, positive or negative.)

When we believe in something we begin to look for evidence of it in our lives. And no matter what our belief is, if we begin to focus on it and look for evidence of it we will find it. What we seek we find. What we think about we attract. We are the ultimate manifestors in our own lives. If we keep looking for tragedy, bad luck and bad energy we will surely find it and attract more to us.

Those negative things that have happened and which you want to use as proof of a curse? I’m sorry. We all get our fair share of illness, accident, peril and bad news. Life is fraught with risk, even as it is filled with wonders.

But that brings me back to the gentleman who wrote me this latest email. His fear and belief are strong. Which means his mindset and belief sends a vibration in the world that will continue to magnetise him to events and relationships of a similar vibration. We attract what we think about and believe. (Did I mention that our minds are powerful?)

How does he step out of this energy of feeling cursed? How does he break that energetic feedback loop inside his head?

When you become this deeply entrenched in a belief it’s not always so easy to do a flip and begin to believe something else. Which is why ritual becomes important. In every situation of someone believing they are cursed they have given their authority and power away to another person – the one who supposedly created the curse. Here’s a simple ritual to take your power back, and it’s a ritual that feels amazingly supportive. In fact if you don’t believe yourself cursed but you are feeling bullied, afraid, vulnerable or insecure this ritual can help. It’s a ritual that only needs to be done once, and it is very affirming and empowering.

One With The Light

Sit or stand in a place where you won’t be disturbed. If you love rituals and really want to ramp up the symbolism create a ring of salt to stand in or around your chair to symbolise purification. And light a candle to symbolise bringing light into darkness.

Now breathe in white light. Do this any way that feels good to you – by visualising or imagining or sensing white light coming into your body with every breath. You might breathe it in through your nose and mouth or draw it in through the top of your head. Fill every cell in your body with white light, and then create a bubble of light around you (your auric field) and fill that with white light too. As you do this you can affirm “I am one with the Light. I am one with Spirit (use God instead of Spirit if you prefer). Nothing can come between me and the Light. Nothing can come between me and Spirit.” Do this until you feel strong and light-filled. Know it to be true. Want to take it further in breaking that energetic connection? Add this phrase “I forgive all enemies and release them with Love and Light.” Then finish by saying “I reclaim my sovereign power. It is so.”

If you made a circle of salt step out of it and then extinguish the candle. But all of the props are unnecessary so only use them if it feels right for you.

If you believe a curse has affected your family line you have the authority to act on their behalf in removing those thought patterns and energy. To do this follow the ritual in the same way, but end by saying “I reclaim sovereign power for myself and my family. It is so.”

Once you’ve performed the ritual STOP THINKING ABOUT THE CURSE. Let it go. Let go of fear. Don’t talk about it anymore. If you find yourself dwelling on the past stop yourself and move on to thinking about something else. You can also remember the feeling of drawing white light into your body and remind yourself again “I am one with the Light, I am one with Spirit. Nothing can come between me and the Light. Nothing can come between me and Spirit.”

Use your powerful mind to search for evidence of what is going well in your life. Count your blessings. Live from love and from your own internal authority.

Sending you love, and all good thoughts and intentions for you to move to a place of better flow and awareness. Nicole  xx

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

  1. Thanks Nicole. Perfect timing. I will be doing this ritual very soon. Thank you for the wonderful information – always, always helpful. XXX

  2. I believe. I believe that which I have been blessed to learn through you, Nicole, and other wonderful people who put me back on track after so many experiences that threw me off. Thank you so much for the good you and your people do (Dana!) Even though you are so very far, you are so very near and dear. Xxxxx

  3. Excellent advice Nicole. Personally I think simple ritual can be helpful because in it we DO something to anchor our thoughts in the physical world. A lit candle is a simple expression of light, clarity and warmth, love and courage. Who does not welcome this! Salt is a symbol of the the body and of earth.
Your suggested ritual would shift these unhelpful beliefs rooted in fear and grief, though they may have to be revisited, say monthly for a year! Why because believers in curses are likely to recreate them.

Personally I like to use salt and cut lemon to cleanse a space overnight. I will also wash my hands with salty water between clients and swim often in the ocean. For me this is a symbol of purification, removing energies I do not want to carry.
    Bless
