The Quest For Nourishment

“How would your life be different if…You were conscious about the food you ate, the people you surround yourself with, and the media you watch, listen to, or read? Let today be the day…You pay attention to what you feed your mind, your body, and your life. Create a nourishing environment conducive to your growth and well-being today.”

~ Steve Maraboli

Hey, Lovelies!

I’m staying in a business hotel in downtown Phoenix right now. When I booked, back in Australia, I was delighted to see that a full breakfast breakfast was included as part of my package. The only thing I brought with me was Vegemite. (Life is too short not to have Vegemite Toast with my breakfast cuppa.)

I guess it is a full breakfast, given what is laid out on the benches in the breakfast room. It’s just not the kind of full breakfast I had expected. There is hot food (microwaved scrambled egg and link sausages), cereal (fruit loops, sugar-frosted flakes and raisin bran), danishes, donuts, bagels and bread. And juice. And coffee. You can even make your own waffles. Here it is below:

I’m here for a week. But after breakfast on the first day I knew I would need something more. I always travel with a small sharp knife and a cutting board. And there is a tiny fridge in my room. So I decided to take nutrition into my own hands.

I found the local Whole Foods market and stocked up on fresh fruit, yoghurts, granola, salad items, nuts, good bread and some cheese. Herbal tea and fresh lemons. Enough for a week. As well as some compostable paper bowls and a couple of bamboo plates. Luckily I already had a travel set of cutlery too. So now I am set!

I’ve been dining like a Queen ever since.

Sometimes in life you have to take responsibility for nourishment into your own hands. A diet of junk is never going to fuel your brain or help your body function or heal.

But it’s not just food that gives us nourishment.

Where in your life can you make changes – to what your watch or read, to the people you hang out with, to the way you move your body, to the activities you choose – that could give you more nourishment for body, mind or spirit?

Sure, you might have to improvise, or do it differently to how everyone else is doing it, but will that matter if the end result is that you have a better quality of inputs in your life?

Food for thought, hey?
Much love, and a small dab of Vegemite, because that’s how we Australians roll, Nicole xx

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

  1. Love it. I have got my tube of vegemite ready for when I am on holiday in 10 days time. I won’t be able to nip out to the nearest supermarket though.

  2. Taking care of what goes in is incredibly important-choices like your breakfast can be fun once, but a steady diet of processed junk is terrible for our brains as well as our bodies! Good work taking charge!
