So, I Started My Own Book Club…

A book lying idle on a shelf is wasted ammunition. Like money, books must be kept in constant circulation… A book is not only a friend, it makes friends for you. When you have possessed a book with mind and spirit, you are enriched. But when you pass it on you are enriched threefold.

Henry Miller

Hey, Lovelies!

I’ve always loved books. From when I was a small kid I’ve had my nose in a book. Books have been constant companions. All kinds of books; fiction, non-fiction, memoirs, children’s books, recipe books, dictionaries, and, when pressed for reading material, community magazines, advertising brochures and the backs of cereal boxes.

When I grew up I even joined a few book clubs because I thought that a shared love of books would be even better than reading on my own. But the whole book club thing didn’t work for me. Some clubs made me feel stupid. Other clubs made me feel isolated. So I decided to to let reading remain a solo experience.

Until last year. Last year I created my own Book Club. I run a fortnightly online session in my membership group, and I threw the rules of previous Book Clubs out the window and invented my own.

In our Book Club, I recommend a book that has themes and ideas that support our growth as empathic and intuitive individuals. Last year we read Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert , The Four Agreements by don Miguel Ruiz, and Untamed by Glennon Doyle. This year we’re exploring Mary Magdalene Revealed by Meggan Watterson and Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. We go SLOW on these books, savouring just a few chapters each time.

You don’t even have to have read the chapters we discuss to turn up to my Book Club.

I introduce a chapter, read a relevant passage, and then we discuss the bigger themes of that chapter and share our own lived experiences of that theme or idea, as well as our thoughts and feelings about the book itself, or that the book has caused us to experience. We explore spiritual concepts and ideas and teaching points, and how they might be relevant to our own lives. Each time we meet there is a beautiful, vulnerable and intimate sharing within the group. Sometimes people share by speaking, sometimes by writing comments in the chat box. It’s a safe place to say that you didn’t enjoy or love or agree with a certain part of the book. It’s a safe place to share anything and everything. And oh, it feels so good to have that shared hour each fortnight. We have forged deeper connections to one another as we share our stories. We have found a place where we can be truly supported. It has become one of my favourite activities.

If you’d like to join us, you’re more than welcome.

All you need to do is become part of my Journeymaker Circle membership – details on how to join here

When you join us, you won’t just get Book Club. You’ll also get a monthly Meditation Circle, Open Office Hours, Live webinars, a really active private Facebook Group, and access to a library of courses, videos (including all of our previous Book Club meet ups) and guided meditations.

Just like my Book Club, my membership is a place that is safe, inclusive, supportive and which focuses on your inner journey, helping you to become a more connected and more self-realised version of yourself.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Love, hugs and wonderful books, Nicole xx

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.
