Up Early, Cos America!

Letting go means to come to the realization that some people are a part of your history, but not a part of your destiny.

Steve Maraboli

Dear America,

Like many people in the world, I changed my day around to watch the inauguration. Just like I did for the COVID-19 Memorial Ceremony in Washington.

You might wonder why, considering that I am an Australian.

America is not my country, but so much of what is possible in my life is because of your country. Many of your citizens are part of my online community. Much of your entrepreneurial world, and the products it has created, shapes mine. Innovations, connections, policies, values – they flow out from your country and shape the world. Our countries have stood shoulder-to-shoulder in wars and hard times. I’ve rejoiced in, and been supported by, your music and literature and arts. Our histories are intertwined. Your country’s reach is vast.

In this past while I have lost too many American friends, clients and their extended families to COVID. I have lost so much sleep over the climate emergency and roll-backs on environmental policies. I have despaired at the erosion of decency, honesty and long-upheld values within the political system, in America and abroad, and as I watched conspiracy theories take hold in ways that have divided families, friendships and communities. I wept as I watched your Capitol, and all it stands for, attacked and invaded by a mob of insurrectionists.

So, I got up early (3am) to watch your new President and Vice-President be sworn in to Office because this is important to me. This isn’t about what political party is in power. It’s about America being returned to Americans, and about governance for the people.

Today, I needed that message of hope and reassurance as much as you.

America, go well. I pray that healing can happen, that true leadership and democracy will return, that you will reach into yourselves and remember that America was always made of something great. God Bless America.

The world is watching, and we’re cheering you on. All my love, Nicole xx

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

  1. Thank you so much Nicole! I feel so much relief, yet I’m in a bit of shock due to the immediate and extreme shift from four years of feeling like my country had been hijacked by a maniac to a return to dignity and sanity. I think many Americans are feeling like we have a bit of PTSD from what we’ve gone through, not only politically but also with the level of Covid infections in this country. But at least now we have hope. So grateful!

  2. I am filled with hope that it’s a new beginning but I am also concerned that the divisiveness, the tribalism and war on truth and facts, will be something that may takes decades to heal.

  3. There was such relief in seeing today’s events. Our President has a tall hill to climb, we are fortunate he’s been so close to the White House in the past to help in the scaling of the boulders left behind. It is lovely you opted to take a break in your moving to watch this side of the world. We really do all meet and work together, even if we are not in the same locations. You are a blessing, Nicole.
