The art of our necessities is strange
That can make vile things precious.
William Shakespeare
Hey, Lovelies.
I need your advice.
What should I pack in my moving day Survival Box?
You know, the box you unpack in the middle of all the chaos that has the stuff you need to get yourself through the first few days of being in a new place, with only half your belongings, and everything in poorly marked boxes…
My list so far is this:
- phones and chargers
- computers and microphone and chargers
- my spiritual toolkit bag (journal, cards, pens, crystals)
- dog food and dog bowls
Yep, I could use some help here!
What else do I need?
Hugs, and a sense of nervous anticipation (cos moving is SO STRESSFUL but the end result is exciting), Nicole xx
PS – I love that Shakespeare quote – it reminds me of how I take Vegemite with me when we travel overseas, because sometimes Australians just NEED Vegemite for the world to be right
Tea! You forgot the tea! And whatever you need to make and drink it. When we moved here we had everything–we thought–for our morning coffee before the truck got here with most of our stuff. We had the espresso machine, we had the grinder for the bean–but the beans were on the truck!
My first thought was for the canines. If the new property is not secure to keep them safe in all the movement that will be happening, have you got some way to secure them until their new home is familiar and you have the opportunity to monitor their comings and goings. Don’t forget familiar beds for them too, it will be a time of upheaval for everybody including the furry friends.
Everyone is ALL over this. You’ve all the best advice.
Enjoy your move.
So excited for you.
Looking forward to hearing the new memories that you and Ben will create in your new home
Sending lots of love xoxoxo
Comfy pillow and blanket. Gotta have a good sleep the first nights.
If possible smudge sticks, to cleanse before moving in. Black Tourmaline to place in the house, for protection. Your ‘Toolkit’. Essential oil or scented candle.
Change of clothes, deodorant and toiletries. I’m assuming you will be in a warmer climate. Unpacking and organising can be hot work.
Paper towels, sharp knife, chopping board, kitchen cloth and tea towel. A couple of plates, glasses, mugs, cutlery. A torch (just in case). When we moved we arrived at night.
Bed linen, pillows, towels etc. Make up the bed first. Doesn’t matter how or where you are up to in the unpacking phase, resting and sleeping in your bed is heaven. An island within the chaos.
Don’t forget some dog food. Also the bits and pieces to feed them with.!
All the best Nicole…
Definitely kettle for tea or coffee making. I always pack a set of sheets so the bed can be made ready to drop into after all the unpacking. Snacks to keep your energy up and something personal that makes you feel nurtured. Just take it slowly. Such an emotional transitional time for you. Xxx
Toiletries, medications, lip balm (essential!), snacks, coffee, pain relief, disposable gloves (you never know what will come up!)
Enough of these for a few days: toilet paper, toiletries, paper towels, hand soap, water, snacks, comfy clothes and shoes, medicines, pillows, first aid kit, keys, cash, shower curtain, towels, pajamas, plates, cups, utensils, scissors, and tools.
Tea, tea cups & kettle PLUS – toilet paper (cranky pants will not leave even a leftover roll of paper, when he departs!)
Haha but Paul you need to pay it forward to the next person with toilet paper! Imagine your mortification if Nicole moved in to one of your houses and wrote about the small missed opportunities to be kind to a stranger when they needed it 😉
2 sets of cutlery, 2 plates, 2 cups, kettle, tea/coffee, snacks, bed linen, towels, change of clothes, Pjs, toiletries, toilet paper, any medications, important documents
Snacks for sure 🙂 And any medicine you may need readily as you settle in. And something that makes you feel warm and fuzzy!!
Kettle, tea cups and tea bags because when everything feels overwhelming, sometimes you just need a cup of tea.
Toothbrush and some snacks. My last moving day was all go from breakfast until after 6pm and I had packed all the food. By the end of the day I was exhausted and starving. Make sure you have some snacks handy in case you dont get time for lucnh!
Having moved not that long ago….I feel for you, Nicole. My box also (aside from charges and cords) held; tissues/hanky, chocolate, bottle of wine and glasses, kettle, tea/coffee, cups and bottles for water. Good luck with the move. 😘😘😘😘
