The Mother, The Daughter and The Fire Alarm

A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.

Washington Irving

Hello, Lovelies!

An interesting thing happened during one of my psychic readings this week.

I was doing a New Year Positioning Reading for one of my Inner Circle – the kind of reading that looks holistically at your year ahead, like a kind of spiritual weather forecast that examines potential pathways and pitfalls, opportunities and blessings. It’s a powerful session, a big soulful overview. It was soon obvious that my client has some big changes ahead of her. As a mum she has been front and centre for her family, and this year she will still need to be there for them, but she also needs to start showing up for herself.

The biggest learning area for my client was around moving back towards doing something for herself. Something that may take time, but which, with that investment into self, would prepare her for a meaningful life using her talents and gifts, after her sons were grown.

Like study, I said.

At which the fire alarm in my house went off.

Apologising, I lifted myself out of the chair, exited my office and limped out to investigate. Because it would be futile to keep conducting a zoom session while my house burned down.

When I stepped outside my office, the alarm was shrieking. I hobbled downstairs (broken foot!). There was no smoke, but the rooms had a strange light about them. I checked every room and then the moment I reached out my hand to the smoke detector, which was flashing and making the most ear-piecing noise, it stopped.

An image came to me of an older woman. I wasn’t sure what it was about, and didn’t have time to think about it because I was midway through a session. Crisis averted. There was no fire. I needed to get back to my work.

I hurried back upstairs (hobble, hobble), apologised again to my client, and continued, revisiting the previous part of our session, and highlighting the need to begin moving in a new or a previously discontinued direction for herself. It was time for my client to mindfully begin creating a more meaningful life beyond that of her current roles.

It’s a long-term commitment, this renovation of yourself, I said. Something that will take years rather than a weekend or a few hours here or there. Like university. Like going back to start or complete a qualification.

The smoke detector went off again.

Oh, I said to my client, understanding coming to me in a sudden flash. The alarm kept shrieking. I am sure that is your Mum, making sure you pay attention to this – I am sure she is encouraging you to go back and study!

As soon as I spoke the words, the alarm shut off. (And it has been silent ever since.)

We both laughed a little, and got a little teary. My client’s mum passed away seven years ago, but she still found a way to get a STRONG message of love and guidance through to her daughter. Message received, Mum, loud and clear.

I love my work, and being able to facilitate these sweet moments of connection, truth and support from the spiritual realms.

Love is. It never dies, just changes form. Never doubt the unseen love that is all around you. We are never alone.

Sending you gentle hugs, Nicole xx

  1. Dearest Nicole,
That was comforting and reaffirming to know about mothers and their Divine presence. As always I believe that the motherly presence in everyone is a guiding light to all of us , be them sisters , or just friends.
Hope your foot is getting better. Praying.

Lots of love , prayers and hugs.
