What happened after I opened the book…

A great book should leave you with many experiences, and slightly exhausted at the end. You live several lives while reading.

William Styron

Hey, Lovelies.

Has this ever happened to you?

Ben brought my mail in to me at my desk late yesterday afternoon, and in a haze of distraction and fatigue I opened it, just before I intended to go and make dinner.

One of the packages had a book inside.

I withdrew the book, and smoothed out the padded envelope so we could use it again. Then, without really thinking, I flipped open the front cover.

Hours later, Ben came looking for me. He was hungry, and I’d promised a dinner that never came. By this stage I had migrated upstairs to bed, because it was cold and rainy, and because I had become engrossed in the story.

I don’t know what Ben ate for tea. Leftovers, I think.

I nibbled some toast, and drank some tea, and that was enough, because I was filled up with story. I read until I fell asleep.

I’ll finish the book today.

Isn’t it wonderful to lose yourself in a book!

Love, hugs and magical adventures in story land, Nicole xx

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

    1. Oh it’s one of my all time favourites! I knew you’d love it with the Indigenous elements and Australian wildflowers. <3 I'm in the middle of The Binding by Bridget Collins, which is brilliant. xx

  1. My favourite refuge.Mark( husband) knows I am stressed if I am engrossed so deeply in a book he has to actually make physical contact with me to get an answer.Usually its a series I have read before involving magic or time travel.I also love reading about peoples travel through Wild places.

  2. Don’t you just lurve getting lost in a book like that!!
You have inspired me to start a detective novel written by an acquaintance. She’s been nominated for best debut crime novel in NZ for this book. (Stupidly I had been saving it for my 2 failed attempts at an overseas cruise)
I’m glad you are making the most of your rest and relaxation.
I hope Ben and the Boys brought you a sandwich.!!!
    Love and hugs. Mxxx
