Wonder, Awe and Updates

To see a World in a Grain of Sand

And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,

Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand

And Eternity in an hour.

William Blake

Hey, Lovelis.
I had a restless night last night. Too much on my mind. You know how that can be.
Earlier, I had spoken with my friend, Dr Michelle, who recently lost her mother to COVID, and whose daughter remains in a medically induced coma on a ventilator in ICU, also with COVID. Her daughter is 20, a college student, who is double vaccinated and who also has a compromised immune system.

Dr Michelle’s daughter is stable, but has not improved. We kept talking about how good it was that her daughter has not declined further, but the realities of being ventilated is that someone has to suction out your lungs, move your body, moisten your eyes and nose and mouth, attend to all your tubes in place for bodily functions, and you are at greater risk of picking up hospital acquired superbugs through the various tubes entering your body. It’s potentially life-saving treatment, but it comes with its own set of risks and complications.

So, yeah, after I got off that call I slept fitfully.

And then the wonder happened.

About 1am I opened my eyes in the dark, saw the silver moon outside my window, and lay there staring at the ceiling. Again. It had taken forever to get to sleep, and here I was, less than two hours later, awake.

As I lay there a small fluorescent green light began blinking above me. It was very bright, and I couldn’t work out where it was coming from. I turned on the bedside light, but I couldn’t see the light source anywhere. On the ceiling was a gecko, a couple of moths and a small black beetle.

I turned off the light, closed my eyes, ad tried to go back to sleep.

Nothing.

Opened my eyes.

Three green blinking lights above me.
They slowly started to move.

Another came on. Another.

Soon I had a dozen tiny green lights blinking and pulsating above me. It was wondrous. Mesmerising.

Curiosity got the better of me and I turned on my bedside light again.
There were now maybe twenty tiny black bugs on my ceiling. I live surrounded by forest, and I have no screens on my windows, so bugs and moths happen. I wondered. Was it the bugs?

I turned off the light. In a moment the blinking green lights came on, right where the bugs were.

I had glowing bugs on my ceiling!

Like a child, I was filled with wonder and awe.

I watched those bugs until I fell asleep.
Then I slept like a baby until quite late this morning (well, for me it was late – 5.32am!).

The ceiling was empty when I woke up. The glowing bugs were gone.

I hope I get to see them again one night.

Please, if you’re inclined, send some love and healing energy to my friend and her daughter. I’d be grateful for your support, and I know Dr Michelle feels better too, knowing that there are still people out there who care.

Thank you.
Love, hugs, and glowing bugs, Nicole xx
