Stop Telling Me It Isn’t Fair

It’s probably my job to tell you life isn’t fair, but I figure you already know that. So instead, I’ll tell you that hope is precious, and you’re right not to give up.
~ C.J. Redwine

Hey, Lovelies.

I truly appreciate all of the love and support you send my way, but I have a favour to ask.

Please stop telling me that it isn’t fair that I am unwell and experience pain and suffering. Please stop telling me I don’t deserve this, or joking about what I might have done to deserve this.

Life is simply messy. Shit situations and outcomes can happen to any of us at any time. None of us are immune to that, and in our lifetimes ALL OF US will experience loss, hardship, disappointment, illness, accidents, injuries, pain and any other number of suckful things that are neither happy nor enjoyable.

It is what it is.

Why did this happen to me?

Well, why not me?

There is nothing we can do to completely protect ourselves from life’s knocks. All we can do is the best we can with what we have on any given day.

Anyway, life can still be so very beautiful, worthwhile and good even as awful or difficult things happen to us or the ones we love.

Wherever you are right now, be that in a good place, or a place of hardship, I wish for you love, peace, everyday miracles, and an ability to seek out the small wonders and blessings that reside in the ordinary moments of our lives.

Today, I am grateful for a better night’s sleep, the opportunity to work with clients this morning, for good decaf coffee and for cuddles with my beautiful boys. I am grateful for the grey butcherbird who flies onto our deck each morning in search of crumbs, and for the delicate pink colour of the budding palm inflorescences (palm flower stalks). They are only pink for just a few days before turning pale yellow. I feel privileged to live high enough in the tree tops that I was able to discover this for myself!

Love, and a deep appreciation for this road we are walking together, Nicole xx

Hi! I'm Nicole Cody. I am a writer, psychic, metaphysical teacher and organic farmer. I love to read, cook, walk on the beach, dance in the rain and grow things. Sometimes, to entertain my cows, I dance in my gumboots. Gumboot dancing is very under-rated.

  1. Mark Frost describes the duality of life beautifully “ For instance, there is no light without darkness—and this troubles many of us—but without it, how else would we tell one from the other? We spend half of every day in darkness; surely we should make our peace with this.”
