The Very Sad Moth Story

Some things are destined to be — it just takes us a couple of tries

to get there.

J.R. Ward

Hey, Lovelies.

Yesterday there was a small but beautiful green moth in our shower.

Moisture had stuck its wings to the tiles, and it was in a bad way, so I carefully lifted it up and placed it somewhere dry and safe before I turned on the taps to have a shower of my own.

The moth flew into the shower and down into the water at my feet twice more.

Twice more I rescued it and took it out of danger. I couldn’t put it outside because it was pouring with rain but I hoped it would dry out overnight and then fly away come morning.

But no. This morning I found the moth, looking much the worse for wear, on the bathroom floor where it was in danger of being squashed.

I felt so bad for it. The poor bedraggled thing.

So once again I gently scooped it up and then I took it to the window.

It fluttered weakly off my palm and down on the roof.

Where a gecko darted out and gobbled it up!

I stood at the window, mouth agape. I couldn’t believe that just happened.

Sorry, moth. I tried.

Mind you, I bet the gecko thought it was his lucky day. I swear he looked like he was smiling at me.

Life – it’s so full of pathos and contradiction.

May you be the gecko today, and not the moth.

Love, and an endless appreciation of nature, Nicole xx
