Finances and Money Opportunities

Having enough money, creating financial flow, and enjoying a position of financial security – these are the things that help us to live our best life. It is impossible to be our best self or to share our talents and gifts in the way our soul had intended if our life is a constant struggle, and if security eludes us.

Here’s what you need to do:

Take your crystal, and complete this short guided meditation.

Hold your stone in your cupped hands, close your eyes, and slow your breathing. Bring white light into your body until you feel peaceful and calm. Then bring white light into the crystal too. Allow yourself to connect to the stone. You may feel it tingle, or visualise a colour in your mind’s eye. When you are ready, open your eyes. Keep your stone near you, and hold it when you write.

Now shuffle your cards, while silently asking the question to yourself ‘What do I most need to know about my finances and money opportunities?’

When you have shuffled the cards and they feel ‘done’, select three cards using the method that feels right for you.

Place the cards face down in front of you.

Clear your mind by closing your eyes and taking one deep breath in and then out. Open your eyes again. Turn over the first card and look at the picture.

The first card is your current situation.

What stands out for you today? Is it an image or a colour? Is it a number or a word? What are your first impressions? What thoughts come into your mind?

Write these down in your journal.

Now let’s go a little deeper. What feelings or words does this card evoke in your mind when you think about the card and its images in relation to the question ‘What do I most need to know about my finances and money opportunities?’ Write some stream-of-consciousness thoughts down. Don’t censor or judge them. Trust the process. Draw a second card for clarification if you need to.

Now turn over the second card. The second card is your area of action – the place where you need to make conscious choices or changes. It shows you either problems to be overcome or opportunities to be explored. Repeat your examination of the second card and journal any insights.

Turn over the third card. This card shows you your potential outcomes, based on the action you take arising from the first and second card. OR it can show you what will happen if no action is taken. You’ll know what you are being shown based on what information and emotions come up for you. Journal your results.

Finally, read back over what you have written.

*Note – this simple three card spread technique can be very useful for looking at situations in some depth.

Some simple money affirmations below:

The Non-Believer and The Amazing Offer

“I was a terrible believer in things, but I was also a terrible nonbeliever in things. I was as searching as I was skeptical. I didn’t know where to put my faith,or if there was such a place,or even what the word faith meant, in all of it’s complexity. Everything seemed to be possibly potent and possibly fake.”

~ Cheryl Strayed

This is a long story, so I’m going to tell it over two days. It might seem like a couple of unrelated stories to start off with, but I promise you it comes together at the end.

So, let’s start at the beginning…

Earlier this year a friend put me in touch with a business coach – a very successful man who had guided her and many others to be able to grow their businesses and themselves. All of these people had existing very successful businesses, and this coach had helped them to move to the next level.

It seemed like a good fit. I was ready and looking, and he was spoken of very highly. He lives overseas so I booked in a skype session with him, feeling very excited.

And then it all went pear-shaped.

What did I do, he asked me.

I’m a psychic, I said, and a metaphysical teacher. I help people to connect to their own intuition and psychic abilities. I blog too.

And you make money from that? His voice was skeptical. In fact, there was more than a hint of something else there. That thing was ridicule.

Yes, I said, I’m doing okay. My initial enthusiasm was fast waning. Bewilderingly, I began to wilt beneath his scrutiny.

Really? But you must have been something else…. before… this… he added.

I explained that I had once owned a very successful training and communications business, with many government and large corporate clients.

Good. That’s where the money is, the coach said, visibly relieved. That’s what you need to go back to. I’m happy to coach you around that. We should be able to make something fly really fast for you there. And I’m thinking now… imagine how you’d go creating online courses for people? Or teaching that? Brilliant!

But that wasn’t what I wanted to do.

When I told him that, he announced that he couldn’t work with me.

I’m a total non-believer in that psychic nonsense, he said. And further, he thought taking me on as a client would reflect badly upon his own ‘brand’.

I got off that call feeling bad about myself and my place in the world.

To make it worse, I heard back from my friend that this coach had trash-talked me to her, saying that I’d ‘wasted my education and abilities to peddle New Age crap to soccer moms and trailer trash’.

Ouch. Talk about confronting! Because of that call I questioned every choice I’d made. I questioned whether my life and what I was doing with it was worthwhile, whether I was actually doing something meaningful, or whether I was deluding myself.

The successful business coach reduced me to feeling like a loser. I seriously wondered if I should have gone back to the corporate world after all.  It rocked me more than I’d expected and I’ll be honest in sharing that it took a few weeks to recalibrate my internal equilibrium.

Fast forward to last week.

A gentleman I worked with in the corporate world ten years ago contacted me and offered me (and my shelved company) a three-year contract if I would go back and head up a task force for a project I’d once been instrumental in getting off the ground. It was a seven-figure gig. Per year.

Per year. That’s so much money.

But it was a July 1 start, so no holiday for me (I’m meant to be flying out on May 29 for 6 weeks). I’d be working with people I don’t like. And I’d need to be based in Canberra for three years. They’d own me, essentially. For which I would be very well paid. I’d have to close my psychic business down. Cancel my workshops and retreats. Walk away from everything I’d been building. I was actually considering it, and then the guy said something that made all my alarm bells sound.

You’re the only person I know, Nicole, who specialises in impossible deadlines.

There it was. I’d be working til I dropped. Just like I had the last time we’d worked together. The answer had to be no.

Still, I couldn’t say it. I told this man I needed to discuss his offer with my husband and would get back to him next Monday, after which I felt sick and couldn’t sleep for days for wondering what I should do. Although my husband was sure I needed to say no. And in my heart I knew without a doubt that I needed to turn it down.

But the money…

So much money.

Perhaps worse than that was the fact that I knew if I took this role I would finally have the approval of certain family members, and of some friends who have turned their back on me, given what I now do with my life.

Ben and I talked about it endlessly. Or rather, I kept trying to talk about it and come at it from different angles while Ben listened patiently. Wisely, Ben reminded me of what had happened last time I’d worked on this kind of project. How I’d spend weeks getting four hours sleep a night to make things happen. How I’d eaten stress breakfast, lunch and dinner. Finally I couldn’t come up with one single legitimate reason to accept the contract. I love my life here at the farm. I love my work. I’m really happy, and I’m finally on the path to health. I’d be throwing all of that away, just for money and approval.

I can’t go back to that jungle, I said to Ben. But you know what? I’m just going to throw it out to the Universe anyway. Because I still feel a bit doubty. I’m going to trust that somehow I’ll get confirmation one way or the other, from outside myself.

The very next morning (Friday), there it was in my facebook inbox. A message from one of my students.

Hi Nicole, you featured in my very big dream last night. I am not sure if this message was for you. You said to me you were here to help life and “life is love”. That is why you can’t go to the jungle! Just thought I would share. Much love T xx

They were almost the exact words I’d spoken to Ben.

I’d love to tell you that I was able to let it go after that. But no. On Saturday night I felt quite teary and depressed. I was feeling as if my blog and my psychic work and my teaching didn’t matter. I wasn’t making enough of a difference. Maybe I had it all wrong.

Even on Sunday I couldn’t shake the feeling. I fumbled through my day off in a miserable space of self-doubt.

And then late in the day I received a series of messages on my phone that arrived via facebook. Something made me look at them. What happened next brought me full circle.

But I’ll tell you about that tomorrow…

How To Develop A Conscious Relationship With Money

“If your mind carries a heavy burden of past, you will experience more of the same. The past perpetuates itself through lack of presence. The quality of your consciousness at this moment is what shapes the future.”
~ Eckhart Tolle

If you were struggling to lose weight, you might be asked to keep a food diary. In that diary you would record what you ate and when, and your emotions at each meal or snack. The purpose of this would be for you to begin to develop mindfulness around your eating habits. Much of the way we live our lives is unconscious. We walk through each day on default patterns, running on habit and ingrained beliefs and behaviours.

Many of us treat money the same way that we treat food. We consume (buy) without thinking, we spend to make ourselves feel good, we ignore our money or treat it with disrespect, or perhaps we don’t really think about it at all.

Food is vital to life and to our health. Our choice of food and consumption levels directly affect our wellbeing. The flow of money in our life is also vital to the quality of our lives.

Money is simply energy that flows to you and from you. It has no value of its own – it holds only the value that you prescribe to it. If you have never actively thought about money and what it means to you, then you will run subconscious programs about the value of money based on your family’s beliefs or of other authority figures in your life.

So how do you become conscious in your relationship with money?

In the same way that a dieter may become aware of their relationship to food.

Image from The Living Room

Image from The Living Room

Whether you realise it or not, money and your spending and earning are actually extensions of yourself and your conscious or subconscious core values. When we give and receive money consciously, we become aligned with our innermost values and we can begin to develop a positive relationship with money. We also become aware of any subconscious patterns or beliefs that may be limiting us, or which are out of synch with our conscious beliefs.

As you move through your week, think about the following questions:

  1. What do I feel when I pay a bill, or receive one?
  2. Where do I spend my money? Do the products and services I buy sit well with my inner values?
  3. Do I know where I stand about the important things in life?
  4. Do I have a plan for my life and for my money?
  5. How does the work that I do and the money that I earn  make me feel?
  6. How do I feel about my bank balance?
  7. Do I understand money, and my personal financial position? How does that reflect my core values? What charities do I support?
  8. Am I comfortable to ask for money that I have earned or that is owed to me? Can I speak up about my worth? Does the money that flows to me reflect that worth?
  9. Do I think about my life priorities and are they reflected in my spending and earning plans?
  10. Do I take care of my needs before I take care of my wants?

Each time you spend or earn money this week, pause and reflect on the energy of money as it passes in and out of your life, how that makes you feel, and whether your money supports your conscious or unconscious beliefs.

Becoming aware of the patterns of money in your life allows you to consciously align your values around money, and to move in flow with this energy in your life. Money flows to you and from you. How do you want this to look? How do you want to affect the world around you with your money flow? Know that you have the power to change your relationship to money simply by aligning your values and thoughts.

Meditation for Healing Your Relationship With Money

“Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pound ought and six, result misery.”  ~ Charles Dickens

“Many people take no care of their money till they come nearly to the end of it, and others do just the same with their time.” ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Hello, February. Aren’t you pushing some big buttons around money and abundance! Money, lack of it, insecurity around creating it, fear of never having it or of losing it, money mismanagement, poor investment or business decisions, lack of customers, deals gone bad, inability to spend money on yourself, shopping addictions, worry over the ability to support yourself and pay your bills – I’ve had an inbox jammed with messages from people in financial distress or freak-out this month.

I’ve also had a slew of emails from people in deep resistance about all things financial as they work through the first Money Pages of my Year of ME Planner.

So it’s time we had the money talk, don’t you think?

We’re sitting at the dawn of a brand-new energetic era. This is an age of coming back into balance; of sitting in our authentic selves. In this era everything is quicker. More connected. More visible. What we focus on is what we will attract more of.

At the same time our old outmoded beliefs are being brought out into the light so we can identify and own them and move on to new ideas which serve us better. Our old stories around money are holding us back. Our family’s beliefs too. We can’t keep hiding from the things we are ignoring. If money is something you’ve never been comfortable with, now is a terrific time to make peace with your money triggers.

Many spiritual and creative people have an uncomfortable relationship with money, and yet money is a fundamental aspect of daily life. As we move into greater integrity it’s time to step up and create a life that is in alignment with our Soul’s purpose. We are being asked to call back and integrate all of the lost and broken and shamed parts of ourselves – including our beliefs and feelings around money.

Money is simply another form of energy. If we are out of flow in one area of our lives it affects all of the others, so it stands to reason that if we are out of synch in our relationship with money, our creativity, our heart’s calling (among so many other possibilities), our financial situation can be impacted and brought out of flow too.

When we find our flow and move into alignment with money, it becomes easier to feel positive about our relationship to money. Whatever our current financial position, it’s all still numbers, and numbers can be changed by bringing our awareness to them and then taking action.

I’ve prepared a short guided meditation to help you to bring your energy into alignment with money and abundance.

All you need to do is set about 14 minutes aside, and then sit or lie somewhere quietly and follow along to the sound of my voice.

Nicole Cody’s Guided Meditation for Money and Abundance

Tomorrow I’ll share some simple ideas for creating consciousness around money.

Hugs and love to you,

The Parable of The Sacred Plumber

“Anybody who has any doubt about the ingenuity or the resourcefulness of a plumber never got a bill from one.” ~ George Meany

“If I had my life to live over again, I’d be a plumber.” ~ Albert Einstein

Once upon a time there was a small village, much like every other village everywhere.

All of the people within the village had their own work to do. There was a dentist, a baker, a sausage maker, a psychic, some teachers, a herbalist, a dressmaker, farmers, writers, carpenters, the newspaper editor, and a whole bunch of other jobs.

Not everyone had the skills to become a doctor, and the people who found sickness unappealing were secretly grateful that they did not have that job. It was universally agreed that the pastry chef was inspired by angels, and the village masseuse was possessed of magical hands that could work miracles on sore backs and cricked necks, achieving what even the good doctor could not. The man who kept the sports field green and smooth loved his job, was enthusiastic about grass and lawn mowers, and read up on grubs and fertilisers. The well-tended field was one to be proud of!

Each person worked according to their talents and aptitudes. The talents each person possessed were considered their God-given gift. The villagers understood that using their talents would be satisfying and sustaining, would honour the giver, and would help contribute to the well-being of the community. There was a place for everyone, and a great diversity of talent. It was a pretty good system.

On a cold and blustery Christmas Eve, disaster struck at one house within the village. Mabel’s toilet backed up. To her horror, a terrible stench came from the bathroom, and muck started flowing out onto the floor. What was she to do?

At first she tried to fix it herself, but that didn’t help. Mable was a psychologist. Toilet emergencies weren’t really her thing. All she knew was that her mood was going from bad to worse.

Then she asked her husband. How do you expect me to fix it, he said. I am a musician. Shall I play my cello for the toilet in the hope that it becomes better tempered?

The next-door-neighbour was a web designer. She couldn’t help. The baker was busy baking bread for the next day. Mabel’s best friend, the funeral celebrant, could only suggest shutting the door and hoping for the best.

The situation became critical. The blocked toilet threatened to ruin Mabel’s planned Christmas Extravaganza. And the kids were worried that Santa wouldn’t stop at such a smelly house!

Finally it was decided that a plumber was needed. Did plumbers even work on Christmas Eve? Christmas Eve was a time when plumbers wanted to be with their own families – not fixing someone else’s stinky toilet disaster.

But fixing stinky toilet disasters is what plumbers do…

Finally Mabel tracked down a plumber who could come to their house. A few hours later the toilet was all fixed. The day was saved. The family would be able to celebrate in comfort after all!

Did Mabel say to the plumber ‘Oh, plumbing is your God-given gift. You can’t possibly charge money for that!’

In fact, she expected to pay more, and was HAPPY to pay more, because it was Christmas Eve, and the situation was desperate. (If you’ve ever had a blocked toilet you’ll know what I mean.)

You, just like every other person in the village, have a God-given gift, and a unique set of talents and experiences. These gifts and talents are meant to sustain you.

No-one expects a plumber to work for free. Especially on Christmas Eve.

The plumber’s talents are God-given, but so are yours!

Charge for your work, and don’t let people abuse your talents. Especially if you work as a healer, an artist or in any kind of helping capacity. We all have different things to share, and all of them have value.

And don’t expect other talented people to do work for you for free. That’s just not realistic or fair.

Day 28 – Gratitude Challenge

So Precious by Georgina Hart

“What we really want to do is what we are really meant to do. When we do what we are meant to do, money comes to us, doors open for us, we feel useful, and the work we do feels like play to us.” ~ Julia Cameron

“Money is usually attracted, not pursued.” ~ Jim Rohn

Money is not wealth.  Some of my most affluent clients do not have wealth- they just have bucket-loads of money.

So what is wealth?  Wealth is a measure of your true state of abundance.  Wealth is having a richness that supports your value system. What we value is what is important to us – what gives us pleasure, satisfaction, meaning and contentment. If your highest values in life are family and community, then your wealth will come from having a life filled with family and community-centred energies, activities and relationships.  If your highest values in life are financial security and travel, then a wealthy life for you will be about money in the bank, investments and having the money to take vacations away from home.

Money is just energy. Money is neither good nor bad – money is neutral until we put a charge on it based upon our own beliefs and attitudes. A dollar note has no value in and of itself – a dollar note is simply a convenient form of energy storage.  In fact, inside our bank accounts we don’t even have real money – instead we have numbers that represent the dollars that represent stored energy.

If you have positive beliefs about money, and respect for the value of the stored energy it represents, you’ll have a healthy and positive relationship to money.  If you have negative beliefs about money, or about the sort of people who have money, then you’ll find that you and money don’t get along so well…

Today, spend some time thinking about what makes you feel wealthy. Let go of needing to have money. Let go of judging wealth by the numbers in your bank account.  Forget the stereotyped images of what being rich is supposed to look like – mansions and mega-yachts won’t make you happy if they have no place in your value system. Focus on that luxurious feeling of abundance that is generated by having enough of what you want and some to spare.

For me, wealth is about having true friendships and people I love gathered around my kitchen table. Wealth is about having time for myself, and time to do the things I love.  Wealth for me is having enough money to cover my expenses, and to be able to buy things based on wanting and appreciating them versus buying things because I can afford them. I feel wealthy when I am giving and receiving love, engaging with my art, using my talents and gifts, and contributing to community.

What does true wealth look like for you? (If it is mansions and mega-yachts, good for you, but as the old adage says be careful what you wish for!)

Image from

When we fill our life with the things that make us happy we are wealthy beyond measure!  One way to get more of that good stuff in our lives is being thankful for what we already have.  Let’s start by counting our Blessings…

Counting Our Blessings and Using our Gratitude Rock

If you need a detailed reminder of our daily process, you can review it here in Day 1 of the Gratitude Challenge.

  1. List five Blessings in your journal, explaining why you are grateful for each one.
  2. Count your Blessings off on your fingers, summoning positive emotion and saying Thank You from your heart for each one.
  3. Write the following words on a piece of paper, feeling the truth of this energy in your heart,  and add this paper to the ones already under your Gratitude Rock : My life is filled with riches.  I have an abundance of all that is good and precious to me.  Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
  4. Tonight before you go to sleep, hold your Gratitude Rock and affirm I am richly Blessed. I have an Abundance of Good in my life. Visualise one thing you have been grateful for today. Swell that positive energy up in your heart like a beautiful golden light, and give a heart-felt Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to the Universe, then imagine a tiny shower of golden light travelling from your heart into your Gratitude Rock.
  5. Still holding your Gratitude Rock, bless your fellow travellers on this Gratitude Journey by sending them golden light, and saying Thank you.  I Bless You.  I intend for you Love, Miracles and Abundance. Know that as you are saying this for them, they are also saying this for you. Feel that connection and gratitude and know that there is real love and support for you here.

If all you do today is these five steps, know that is enough.

Today’s gratitude challenge is about showing the Universe what we want our lives to look like…

What we think about and thank about, we bring about!

Whatever we think about and add strong emotion to, we begin to draw into our lives.  When we are grateful for the blessings we already have or have had in our lives, our thoughts and emotions align us to these experiences and relationships, and we become magnetic to other positive things with a similar vibration.

Sit back and close your eyes and then just allow yourself to daydream, focusing on experiences, relationships or possessions that give you a sense of wealth in your life.  Think of the places you’ve been, the weather you’ve known, the things around your home, the people in your life, the treasures within your community (sports fields, coffee shops, libraries, hospitals etc) You can use any of the things you have already listed in your gratitude diary, you can choose any moment from along the timeline of your life, and you can even move forward into the future, visualising positive situations that have not yet occurred but that you desire for yourself.  Steep yourself in this wealth.  Let its images wash over you, and sink deep into you.

Feel how many amazing blessings have already graced your life. Let that feeling of wealth, gratitude and joy build up inside you. Know that you are magnetising yourself to more and more good with this energy of appreciation. When you are ready give a heart felt Thank You to the Universe.  Thank You for my Abundant Wealth. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.

My wish for you today is that you know how Loved and Blessed you are. My wish for you is that you see the world today through eyes of Gratitude and Love.  Bless ♥ xx

Day 10 – Gratitude Challenge

Piglet and Pooh. Image from

“Piglet noticed that even though he had a Very Small Heart, it could hold a rather large amount of Gratitude.”
~ A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh

Our future is not fixed.  It is mutable and constantly changing in response to our thoughts, actions and beliefs.

When we believe that our Universe is abundant, and that it is a kind, safe and helpful place – indeed, that the Universe can be utterly delightful – then we start attracting more and more of that kind of positive energy into our lives.

From that place of Abundant Thinking and Gratitude we start to find ourselves expanding. We begin to feel more uplifted, more upbeat.  We gain confidence.

We begin to believe in possibilities. We begin to allow the Grace of the Universe to touch our lives. We get ourselves out of resistance and back into flow.

And from that place of flow, our lives change forever.

But how do we get to that place? Abundant thinking is created by counting our blessings.

Count Our Blessings and Use our Gratitude Rock

If you need a detailed reminder of the process, you can review it here in Day 1 of the Gratitude Challenge.

  1. List five Blessings in your journal, explaining why you are grateful for each one.
  2. Count your Blessings off on your fingers, summoning positive emotion and saying Thank You from your heart for each one.
  3. Take yesterday’s picture or name from underneath your Gratitude Rock. Hold it in your hands and say Thank You for all the help you have given me. I trust that the Universe supports me in every way. Really feel that energy and gratitude in your own heart.
  4. Now think of something where you need help. Write your request on a piece of paper like this: Universe, I am now open to receiving help with ___________ Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Place your request under your Gratitude Rock.
  6. Place your rock back beside your bed, and go to sleep, cocooned in this good energy.

If all you do today is these six steps, know that is enough.
