Create Positive Change Program – Week 4

Letting Go by senyan1

Letting Go by senyan1

“It’s not hard to decide what you want your life to be about. What’s hard, she said, is figuring out what you’re willing to give up in order to do the things you really care about.”
― Shauna Niequist, Bittersweet: Thoughts on Change, Grace, and Learning the Hard Way

That’s the thing about change. It requires room. Change’s very essence is about allowing for things to evolve, to become different, to be altered from what they are now. But how can that happen if your life is already crammed to capacity with being and doing? How can you grab hold of the new if your hands are already full?

This week we’re going to look at how we can begin to make room for the things that matter to us.

It will mean letting go of, or temporarily putting aside, some of the the things we’re currently giving energy to so that there is space for what’s coming.

Are you ready for that?

Good! Let’s go. 🙂

Count Your Blessings!

Writing our Blessings down provides a concrete reminder of the everyday good and everyday magic already present in our lives.  This simple practice draws more abundance into our lives by focusing our attention on what matters to us.

Again this week write down three blessings in your life every day – three simple things for which you are grateful. When we count our Blessings we are inviting positive energy into our lives and putting ourselves into a receptive and abundant state of mind.

Write them like this: Today I am thankful for (the blessing) because (write down a simple reason). eg: Today I am grateful for Australia’s Outback, because being under this wide blue sky makes my heart feel free.

The wide soft sky at sunset...

The wide soft sky at dawn…

Affirm the Positive!

Take your rock from Week Three and thank it. Write the Affirmation you used in your Blessings Book. You can now place the third rock beside your bed or somewhere where you’ll see it often.

Select the fourth rock from the eight you selected at the start of this course. This is your fourth Affirmation Stone. Carry it around with you, or place it somewhere where you can see and hold it every day.

Hold this fourth stone in your hands. Now think of something else in your life that you want to change. This week we’re focusing on what we ARE READY FOR. Affirm that as a statement of declaration to the Universe.

Here are some examples:

I am ready for a Soul Mate.

I am ready to become a published author.

I am ready for a healthy, happy pregnancy.

I am ready to commit to higher study.

I am ready to create my dream job.

I am ready to embrace change and become a successful visual artist.

Each day hold that stone in your hands and repeat your declaration, out loud, or in your mind. You can do this just once, or as many times as you like. Say your declaration with enthusiasm and commitment. Put lots of energy into the words I AM READY. This simple act of declaration begins to align you with this energy, opening you to more of this thing in your life.

Using your Gratitude Rock!

Are you enjoying this part of our Program? I confess it might actually be my favourite!

As you hold your stone tonight say to yourself I am richly Blessed. I have an Abundance of Good in my life.  Then hold in your mind one or more image of a thing you have been grateful for today.  It doesn’t matter if you review your Blessings from your Blessing Book, or add in something new.  Swell that positive energy up in your heart like a beautiful golden light, and give a heart-felt Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to the Universe. Visualise a tiny shower of golden light travelling from your heart into your Gratitude Rock.

Now imagine all of the other people who are taking part in this Positive Change Program with us – people from all over the world, just like you. Once again build up a strong positive energy in your heart, and then imagine shooting a stream of golden light out into the Universe to those people.

Say Thank you.  I Bless You.  I intend for you Positive Change, Love, Miracles and Abundance. Know that as you are saying this for them, they are also saying this for you. Feel that connection and gratitude and know that there is real love and support for you here. Place your rock back beside your bed, and close your eyes, cocooned in this good energy. Let yourself heal, let yourself be nurtured, let yourself connect spiritually while you sleep.

Homework:

This week we’re going to do a little honest exploring, via our journal.

In as much or as little detail as you need, answer the following questions. You can repeat the questions more than once, and you can also make the actions as small or as massive as you are ready for. Big change can often come from the tiniest realignment or action so don’t feel you NEED to make a grand gesture. On the other hand, sometimes big is what it takes to finally move us out of stuckness and back into flow.  Tune in to your heart. You’ll find your way!

I’m prepared to give up ______ to help me improve my health because ______.

I’m prepared to give up ______ to help me improve my financial situation because ______.

I’m prepared to give up ______ to help me improve my relationship with ______ because ______.

I’m prepared to give up ______ to free up more time because ______.

I’m prepared to stop ______ because I’m aware that ______.

I’m prepared to swap ______ for ______ because ______.

“For things to change, you have to change.”
~ Jim Rohn, The Art of Exceptional Living

There’s change in the air. We’re finally shifting away from those old energies, those old patterns, and into the beginnings of a new space.

Change is always a little chaotic, and it can be unsettling and uncomfortable. But change also gives us our best shot at growth and at creating lives that are more satisfying and meaningful.

Today, we’re going to welcome the energy of change into our lives. We’re going to invite it in, and then dance with that energy.

Are you ready?

Over the next eight weeks we will work together to embrace this change, and to make it work for us. I’ve designed this program so that as you work with positive change you begin to anchor it into your lives.

Let’s start with our Embracing Change Toolkit.

1) Take out your large journal (or the electronic device of your choice!). On a clean page write the following:

Dear Universe,

All of my life I have wanted to move in this new direction. I have felt it calling me, I have felt it just beyond my reach, although I have not always been able to clearly define that place or what it might mean for me.

I have always known that I was destined for more – being more, loving more, sharing more, having more.

Although I am uncertain, although I still cannot name all the changes I desire, my heart is open to them if they be for my Highest Good.

Today I honour my yearning for change, and I offer it up to you, trusting that I will be guided to discover the next steps, that I will be drawn to inspiration and opportunity, and that I can create a life for myself which is more expansive, more aligned to my purpose, more in flow.

My commitment to you is that for the next 8 weeks (and beyond) I am willing to explore and open to the possibilities of change, and to celebrate the many Blessings I already enjoy.

With love and gratitude,

(insert your own name here)

This large journal is where we will do all of our musing, exploring and pondering. It’s also where we’ll write our homework answers, and place our inspired thoughts and ideas.

2) Now take your small journal (or electronic device). On a clean page write:

This Blessings Book is the property of

_____________________________________

(insert your own name here)

Each day, write down three blessings in your life – three simple things that you are grateful for. The Blessing can be anything for which you are thankful.  It can be a big thing or a small thing, it can be from the present or the past, but you must be sincere in having gratitude for this thing in your life. You can do this at any time during the day, but do it every day! Try to come up with new things each day. The more you look, the easier this gets.

Write them like this: Today I am thankful for (the blessing) because (write down a simple reason). eg: Today I am grateful for my dog because he always gives me so much love.

When we count our Blessings we are inviting positive energy into our lives and putting ourselves into a receptive and abundant state of mind.

3) Using your eight little rocks: (PS: Don’t you love these little heart-shaped rocks that were given to me by my beautiful friend Nerida!)

2013-08-11 10.49.20

Select your first rock as an Affirmation Stone. This week you can carry it around with you, or place it somewhere where you can see and hold it every day. Each week the process will be the same, but using a different stone.

Pick your first rock and hold it in your hands. Now think of something in your life that you want to change. Affirm that as a statement of declaration to the Universe.

Here are some examples:

I choose Health.

I choose to have Boundless Energy.

I choose Abundance.

I choose Positive Cash Flow.

I choose to be Loved.

Each day hold that stone in your hands and repeat your declaration, out loud, or in your mind. You can do this just once, or as many times as you like. Say your declaration with enthusiasm and commitment. This simple act of declaration begins to align you with this energy, opening you to more of this thing in your life.

4) Working with your Gratitude Rock:

gratitude-rock

The Gratitude Rock anchors positive energy and gratitude at the end of every day.  You can carry your stone with you, or leave it beside your bed.  At night, before you go to sleep, hold your Gratitude Rock in your hand.

As you hold the stone say to yourself I am richly Blessed. I have an Abundance of Good in my life.  Then hold in your mind one or more image of a thing you have been grateful for today.  It doesn’t matter if your review your Blessings from your Blessing Book, or add in something new.  Swell that positive energy up in your heart like a beautiful golden light, and give a heart-felt Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to the Universe. Visualise a tiny shower of golden light travelling from your heart into your Gratitude Rock.

Now here’s the fun bit – imagine all of the other people who are taking part in this Positive Change Program with us – people from all over the world, just like you.

Place your rock back beside your bed, and go to sleep, cocooned in this good energy.

5) Homework

Change works best through action! To complete this Program allow a window of thirty minutes each week to complete your homework, plus five minutes at the beginning or end of every day. That will give you time to work on any activities I set you, to record your three daily Blessings, and to use your Gratitude Rock and Affirmation Stone.

journal-writing-11

This week, explore these questions in your journal. Don’t over-think it. Just let the words flow onto the page. Write as little or as much as feels right.

I need change in my life right now because:

One thing I would change about my health is _______ because ______:

One thing I would change about my work is ______ because ______:

One thing I would change about my personal life is ______ because ______:

One thing I would change about my thinking is ______ because ______:

One thing I’m really stuck on is:

One thing I’m really clear on is:

Simplicity is a choice…

Life is not complicated, only that we make it so.

♥ Nicole Cody

Yesterday, on my facebook page, someone told me that they longed for more simplicity in their lives. How could they make it so, they asked.

That’s a valid question given that we are surrounded, even bombarded, by media telling us we need this, we have to have that. To be successful our lives need to look a certain way, and we need to be able to measure up to certain expectations. Perhaps that is why shopping has become the number one pastime in so many countries.  And, of course, in order to have those things we need to work harder, and longer. We rack up more debt. We lose our freedom bit by bit, without realising what is happening.

I realised this after living in Palau. My life shrank down to one suitcase, an old but large hotel room, a smaller budget. Access to a car, but needing to go most places on foot. That smaller space, with few possessions was a major readjustment, but I soon found myself happier, freer, and filled with creativity. When I came home to Australia I walked around my house wondering how I had accumulated so much stuff.  There was so much to pay for, so much to keep clean, and I used so little of it!

Simplicity, like happiness, is a choice.

On first appearances that might seem unfair, or even impossible.  But think about where you are now.  Every single choice you made, every decision you took, led you to where you are.

And even if life has forced certain circumstances upon you (Global Financial Crisis, unemployment, illness) you still have power, because you still have the ability to choose your thoughts and actions.

If you’re in a place of complete overwhelm, I suggest you start here – with a post I wrote recently on burn out, how to recognise it and what to do about it.

Reverse Engineering

You could also try a process of reverse engineering.  This is where you pull something apart to figure out how it was made, so that you can copy or rebuild it, or even modify it. We need to reverse engineer your life, so that you can work out where to begin making changes.

Start with these questions:

  1. What is my daily routine?  Do this for each day of the week.  If there is no routine, just write down how much time you spend on the key areas in your life each day for one week by observing yourself honestly and recoding your actions.  It will average out. You can also do this for your partner or children too.
  2. What are my financial commitments? This is a biggie and some people have never taken the time to work this out. If you’re one of them I know it can be scary and confronting, but if you don’t have a true picture of where you are, you won’t be able to make sound decisions about where you go next.
  3. Look over your answers.  This is the critical part.  Is there time left over at the end of each week?  Is there money left over at the end of each week?Spare time is vital for a feeling of well-being, and for having adequate coping mechanisms for life. Being too tightly pinched for money generates great stress, which has a huge negative impact on health, relationships and energy levels.

Life is precious. It’s worth making changes to give you a more satisfying life. From experience I’ve learned that most stuff doesn’t make you happy. Certain stuff can make life easier and more pleasurable though.  Maybe you need a good computer, or a comfy arm chair, or a nice teacup, or a great holiday adventure. But what about the rest of your life?  How much of what you own do you actually use?

Can you get by with smaller, fewer or none at all? Are you giving time and energy to what really matters in your life. Maybe it’s time to actively simplify your life, bit by bit. Downsize, divest, say no to extra demands upon your time and energy. Look to places, jobs and people that support a more fulfilling lifestyle. It doesn’t have to be five-star to be enjoyable! Change doesn’t have to happen all at once, but when you have a plan it is far easier to create a new reality.

All change requires effort, but change is possible. In the end, imagine the choices and relationships in your life. Imagine removing them.  Is there a sense of loss or panic, or a sense of relief?  Sometimes it’s as simple as that.
