20 Ways To Strengthen Your Connection To Mother Earth

20 Ways To Strengthen Your Connection To Mother Earth

‘Then I was standing on the highest mountain of them all, and round about beneath me was the whole hoop of the world. And while I stood there I saw more than I can tell and I understood more than I saw; for I was seeing in a sacred manner the shapes of all things in the spirit, and the shape of all shapes as they must live together like one being.
And I say the sacred hoop of my people was one of the many hoops that made one circle, wide as daylight and as starlight, and in the center grew one mighty flowering tree to shelter all the children of one mother and one father. And I saw that it was holy…
But anywhere is the center of the world.’

~ Black Elk, Holy Man of the Sioux Nation

20 Ways To Strengthen Your Connection To Mother Earth

We cannot separate ourselves from the Earth. She provides for us in so many ways; the air we breathe, the food we eat, the water we drink, the materials from which we house and clothe ourselves. We have forgotten that we are part of her. What we do to the earth we are also doing to ourselves.

Over time many of us have become distant friends with our planet. We no longer hear or understand her.  Some of us don’t even visit her in her natural spaces anymore.  And yet she continues to love and nurture us.

20 Ways To Strengthen Your Connection To Mother Earth

These ideas might help you reconnect with the Earth, and all she has to offer us. The energy can be used for healing, balancing and grounding us, and for opening us up to higher levels of awareness.

  1. Sit under a tree and become consciously aware of that tree. Introduce yourself to it. Open to its energy.
  2. Go for a walk by a river or creek. Sit for a while and just watch nature.
  3. Swim in the ocean.  Let the water cleanse and revitalise you physically, emotionally and energetically.
  4. Collect some interesting stones that you find on your walks.  Perhaps you’ll be blessed with a feather or a pretty leaf too. Place them somewhere in your home or workplace where they can remind you of the outside world.
  5. Place some cut flowers in your house.  Flowers heal and nurture us with their colour, scent and energy.
  6. Play with crystals – wear them, put them beside your bed or on your windowsill, and hold them!
  7. Sit at a look-out on a hill or mountain. Let peace wash over you.  Feel the Earth breathing in and out.
  8. Plant a garden, even if it’s just a few herbs in a pot.  Nurture those plants. Let their tending be a meditation on mindfulness and nature.
  9. Dance in the rain.
  10. Play with a pet. Animals are wise, loving souls with so much to give us.
  11. Celebrate each season. Enjoy the heat of Summer, eating watermelon and swimming, enjoy Autumn and the falling leaves – the refreshing change in the air, enjoy Winter with slow foods, short days and cold nights, and then celebrate Spring, when new life emerges, leaves and flowers burst forth and the sun begins to sparkle again.
  12. Pay attention to the cycle of the moon and how that makes you feel.
  13. Take a picnic to a favourite park or nature place. Take some friends, a pet or a book, but leave your phone, laptop and worries at home.
  14. Visit a Farmers Market and buy some fresh, seasonal organic produce to nourish yourself and your family. Understand more about where your food comes from, and how it can heal you.
  15. Meditate and consciously connect into the grounding, healing and stabilising energies of Mother Earth
  16. Go outside at night and look at the stars and Moon. If you can’t see them from where you live, consider taking a weekend away in nature to reconnect with the night sky.
  17. Sit by a campfire and listen to the crackle and dance of the flames.
  18. Watch an insect, bird or small animal going about its day. Allow yourself to become quiet and calm and open to any lessons that the creature shares with you.
  19. Visit a wild space. A place where there is only nature. Let it fill you with peace.
  20. Sit in the sunshine and let the warm rays of the sun enter your body with their healing light. Feel yourself relax and unwind.

Can’t sleep? Intuitive senses on overdrive? Blame it on the Moon!

“The moon does not fight. It attacks no one. It does not worry. It does not try to crush others. It keeps to its course, but by its very nature, it gently influences. What other body could pull an entire ocean from shore to shore? The moon is faithful to its nature and its power is never diminished.”
~ Deng Ming-Dao

“She didn’t quite know what the relationship was between lunatics and the moon, but it must be a strong one, if they used a word like that to describe the insane.”
~ Paulo Coelho

Hello, my sensitive friends!

I just want to reassure you if you’ve suddenly found yourself overly emotional, exhausted, tired but wired, unable to sleep, sleeping too much and can’t seem to wake up, having crazy dreams, anxiety on overdrive, psychic senses on high alert, flushing or feeling weird for no reason.

It’s the Moon. Or, to be more accurate, it’s the influence of Mercury, the Moon, Earth, Solar Flares and a Solar Eclipse. It will settle again in another 3 or 4 days.

Meanwhile, limit caffeine and sugar, increase your intake of magnesium or have an Epsom Salts bath or foot soak before bed, use Lavender, Ylang Ylang and Frankincense essential oils, eat more grounding foods like root vegetables and spend time in nature. Avoid crowds. Limit screen time too.

It’s actually a beautiful thing to be a sensitive soul if you manage it right. It’s a time for clarity, insights and increased awareness. So use this time for psychic work, journalling, resting, dreaming and your inner journey. If you haven’t signed up for my Journey of Transformation online course that would be a good step too!

Much love, Nicole <3 xx

Storm Clouds and Other Magical Things

retreat

“When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.”
~ Haruki Murakami, Kafka on the Shore

As I finished my meditation this morning, sitting on the veranda overlooking the ocean, a lightning storm began. There was no thunder. The whole thing unfolded in the predawn silence. Great purple clouds hung over the ocean, lit from within with flashing ribbons of light.

I wondered who else might be awake to see the theatre of that moment, before I realised the storm was just for me.

A long time ago, when I lived in the Kimberley, my Aboriginal Aunties taught me that the landscape is a teacher – that it holds messages for you, if only you can be still and pay attention.

So I sat and watched the storm, and the slow creep of dawn. I took a short walk as everyone else slept, feeling the communion of trees, the companionship of the waning quarter moon, the fellowship of the many birds singing their morning song.

My heart was breaking and flowing over with love all at once.

We live firmly set within the midst of magic.

As dawn broke the clouds lit with pink and gold. The storm moved further out to sea, leaving behind the clean, soft beginning of today.

I have had little sleep, but I feel renewed.

There will be magic within the walls of my hall today. Magic for the participants of my retreat. I can feel it in the air.

I’m holding you in my heart, and sending you love and bright sparks of possibility.

What magic is around you right now? What messages?

Be open to good things. Know that you are in this life for a reason.

Much love, Nicole xx

The Seeker’s Moon

“There comes a time in the seeker’s life when he discovers that he is at once the lover and the beloved.”
~ Sri Chinmoy

“Everything you possess of skill, and wealth, and handicraft,
wasn’t it first merely a thought and a quest?”
~ Rumi

I am making the final preparations for my retreat this week, before we start on Saturday.

The dates were chosen carefully to coincide with certain moon phases. I work with the moon often, here at my farm. Understanding her cycles helps us grow things well, and work with the potent forces of nature, rather than against them. It also works well in our own personal quest for growth.

Although you may not be joining us, perhaps you’d like to consciously work with this beautiful moon energy too.

Right now (today!) the moon is in Sagittarius, and it is a waxing crescent. All waxing moons are fabulous for growth and change. This current phase is known as the Traveller’s Moon.

It’s a time where we doubt and we question. A time of ‘itchiness’ where we long to become unstuck and to travel forward. We recognise that something is missing in our lives and so we embark on our quest. We become the Traveller.

By the weekend, when the retreat begins, we shall be in a waxing gibbous moon – the Seeker’s Moon. The seeker has a restless spirit. They yearn to find answers. They desire to find a deeper meaning in their life, around which they can arrange their days.

A Seeker’s Moon is a great time for introspection, and for Vision Quests. It’s a time for soul searching and seeking truth. We seek answers from without and within.

If you’re truly looking to change the course of your life and to have clarity of direction, the Seeker’s Moon provides powerful energy to illuminate these answers in your life.

In the final days of our retreat we move into the Scholar’s Moon – the gibbous moon in Sagittarius.

Under a Scholar’s Moon we integrate what we have learned. We have heard the whispers of our heart. We have noted the illumination of our direction by the Universe. We have a clear idea of where we are going.

Now is the time to commit to that path. We open ourselves to deeper levels of knowledge, understanding that the end of one quest marks the beginning of another. We are now on a journey of self-growth and self-mastery.

The Waxing Moon in Sagittarius is not a call for everyone. But if it is your time, you will know. You will feel its pull.

I’ll post a little more over the next ten days, for those of you who can’t join us but who feel compelled to travel this same road.

Much love to you. May you journey well. ♥ Nicole xx

“You can’t, if you can’t feel it, if it never
Rises from the soul, and sways
The heart of every single hearer,
With deepest power, in simple ways.
You’ll sit forever, gluing things together,
Cooking up a stew from other’s scraps,
Blowing on a miserable fire,
Made from your heap of dying ash.
Let apes and children praise your art,
If their admiration’s to your taste,
But you’ll never speak from heart to heart,
Unless it rises up from your heart’s space.”
~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Faust: First Part
