Weathering the Moment

“Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby.”
~ Langston Hughes

Do you ever get stuck in your head?

I found myself there last night. The sort of stuckness where you’re oh-so-tired, and know you should be getting to sleep, but instead you keep worrying something around in your brain.

It’s not any good, you know. That useless kind of fretful worrying. Nothing constructive about it. It won’t solve anything, fix anything, heal anything. All it shall do is make you more tired, frazzled, down or stuck.

I have a meditation technique I use when I find myself in this kind of headspace. I like to think of it as ‘weathering the moment’. Invariably when I use this method I emerge out of the other end feeling calmer, quieter and with some breathing space up there in my brain again. I realise that I can put down the tail of the particular tiger I am wrestling, and move into sleep, or onto something more constructive.

Here’s what you do:

Stop. Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, just stop. Give yourself five minutes. Obviously if you’re driving a car wait until you can pull over safely. No point in adding to your problems… ūüôā

Deliberately take a deep breath and exhale slowly, and then consciously move your awareness to what’s outside you. Not to people or traffic or man-made things. Instead tune in to nature.

If you’re in an office block or an apartment, go sit by a window, or at least where you can glimpse outside. It doesn’t matter if what you have is a mountain, a patch of sky, the top of a tree.

If you are fortunate enough, take that five minutes outside.

If you are bedridden, let your mind float out of the window into that summer day, the quiet night, the rain storm, the falling snow, the endless stretch of afternoon.

Be the air. Follow the sunshine. Let yourself fall with the raindrops. Expand out to the horizon. Alight on a leaf. Fly like a bird. Roar on the wind.

Soon you understand something fundamental. You are not your problems. Your soul is bigger than that. And in fact, in the scheme of things, as you merge for a while with the wider world of nature that keeps happening all around us, it is easier to distance ourselves a little from the immediacy of our worries, and to gain some precious perspective.

If you’re able to, conclude your weathering session by standing barefoot on the ground. If that’s not possible put your hand on the rough bark of a tree, or the smooth leaf of a plant. Connect. Discharge that last racing fretfulness into the accommodating energy of Mother Nature. If physical connection is not possible, imagine yourself doing these things as if it were real. It will still have a similar positive effect.

Five minutes is not much in the scheme of things. But five minutes, well spent, can make all the difference.

Much love to you, Nicole xx

Rain, Rain, cleanse my blues away…

Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby.
~ Langston Hughes

I awoke this morning to gentle rain on the roof. It was such a peaceful sound. I’m still on retreat, so I walked out onto the veranda, which overlooks rainforest and then the ocean, and I took a few deep cleansing breaths.

The cool, fresh, rain-moist air was a nurturing gift. Yesterday was a big day – lots of breakthroughs for my students, lots of healings, lots of hard work. We all tumbled into bed exhausted.

This morning the energy feels so light and calm. ¬†It’s as if the overnight rain has washed away the heavy energetic debris of the day before. We’ll have a lovely fresh start.

That’s the power of rain. There is nothing like a shower or a storm to freshen things up.

If you ever get the opportunity, go for a walk in the rain.  Dance in the rain.  Stomp in puddles.  Or just sit on your veranda or at an open window and watch the raindrops fall.

No rain where you are? The shower works almost as well. ¬†Stand under the fall of water, and let the rush of drops wash your cares away. ¬†It’s good to do a simple visualisation while you shower, seeing the water run over your body and through your aura, gently taking away your hurts and pains, your heaviness or anger. Let it wash off the negativity or disappointment, let it remove the energy of other people, let it leave you fresh and clean and whole again.

Or soak in a hot tub, and then pull the plug and watch your worries and the energetic residue of the day drain away down the plughole.

Water has magical properties for soothing, cleansing and restoring. And it’s so available to us.

Today, I’m wishing you peace, flow and grace. ¬†Much love to you¬†‚ô• xx

Day 14 – Gratitude Challenge

If not you, who? If not now, when? ~ Garry Herbert

At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us. ~ Albert Schweitzer

If there was a Gold Medal for consistency and commitment, today I would give one to you!  Well done Рtoday you will complete two entire weeks of gratitude.

Gratitude is a powerful force for good in our world. Not only is it magnetic to attracting more positive emotions, experiences, and relationships, it is also able to be flowed from us to others so that we can uplift and support loved ones or strangers. In doing so we raise the vibration of all involved.

When we are grateful for the athletic ability, health, physicality and wellbeing of those around us, we also draw those qualities towards ourselves.

It’s a perfect time for that right now, while the Olympics are being held. But at any time in our lives, we can appreciate and give thanks for those who have these qualities of grace, power, and endurance or the values of good sportsmanship, enthusiasm, commitment and courage.

Can your positive thoughts actually influence someone else’s performance? Yes, it’s possible. If they are open to allowing, or are in a vibration that is aligned with your intention, then your energy strengthens and uplifts their own. ¬†How do we do that? ¬†Not by wanting them to win, and not by pleading or cheering from the sidelines (or the couch in front of television!). ¬†We do it by holding them in appreciation – by being grateful for all that they are or all that they do and feeling that swell of pure love and gratitude for them in our hearts.

But what if you are nervous for them? ¬†What if you are anxious about their performance, or negative in some way? Don’t worry – these energies are more about YOU than about the other person.

We are only ever affected by the negativity of others when we are also in a negative space.

The best way to stay in a positive vibration?

Counting Our Blessings and Using our Gratitude Rock

If you need a detailed reminder of the process, you can review it here in Day 1 of the Gratitude Challenge.

  1. List five Blessings in your journal, explaining why you are grateful for each one.
  2. Count your Blessings off on your fingers, summoning positive emotion and saying Thank You from your heart for each one.
  3. Think of someone to whom you would like to flow health, well-being and positive physical energy.  Take a photo of them or write their name on a piece of paper.  Hold the photo or name in your hands and say I intend for you _____________ and I give thanks for the Blessing of _________ in your life.  Really feel that positive energy in your heart.  Now place the photo or name under your Gratitude Rock.  Know that as you affirm this for others, you are also allowing for similar energies to come into your own life.
  4. Tonight before you go to sleep, hold your Gratitude Rock and affirm I am richly Blessed. I have an Abundance of Good in my life. Visualise one thing you have been grateful for today. Swell that positive energy up in your heart like a beautiful golden light, and give a heart-felt Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to the Universe, then imagine a tiny shower of golden light travelling from your heart into your Gratitude Rock.
  5. Still holding your Gratitude Rock, bless your fellow travellers on this Gratitude Journey by sending them golden light, and saying Thank you.  I Bless You.  I intend for you Love, Miracles and Abundance. Know that as you are saying this for them, they are also saying this for you. Feel that connection and gratitude and know that there is real love and support for you here. Place your rock back beside your bed, and go to sleep, cocooned in this good energy.

If all you do today is these five steps, know that is enough.

Would you like to try another Gratitude Challenge? ¬†Today’s exercise is designed to amplify health, wellbeing and positive physical energy in your life.

Gratitude for the Grace of the Physical

Today, find a way to express gratitude for the health and wellbeing of someone else.  You could do this by sitting in a park, watching a jogger go by.  You could do it by watching a dancer, or a sporting event.

You could even do it by watching children run around in the playground.

Feel how easily their body moves. ¬†Feel the energy within them, the power and the grace. ¬†Feel their emotions of determination or control or give-it-everything-I’ve-got.

From your heart, feel appreciation for the sheer beauty and magnificence of the human form. ¬†And when you’re ready, say a heartfelt Thank You. ¬†Thank You to the person who is showing you this picture of athleticism and health. ¬†Thank you to the Universe for our physical forms.

And if you’re watching a live (or live televised) sporting event, and you want to positively influence the outcome? ¬†Just practice that emotion of supreme gratitude. ¬†Let yourself be blown away with appreciation for their efforts, their skill, their ability and determination. ¬†Let the outcome of the actual event or act become unimportant, and let your feel-good attitude become everything!

Enjoy!  ♥ xx

Every¬†time¬†we remember to say ‚Äúthank you‚ÄĚ, we¬†experience¬†nothing less than heaven on earth.
~ Sarah Ban Breathnach

Something magical happens each time we take a breath of air.  Breathing grounds us, it expands us, and it energises us.  Although it is a simple act, and free, it also empowers. The breath alone can be a healing force in our lives. Many cultures and religions believe breathwork to be sacred.

Today give thanks for the air you breathe. Let every breath nourish and support you.  Let every breath do you good.

And of course, as we have done every day so far, let’s begin our day by counting our Blessings.

Counting Our Blessings and Using our Gratitude Rock

Are you ready for more?  Try this simple exercise, designed to amplify your energy, gratitude and connection.

Breath of Life

Sit quietly, and give yourself the gift of five minutes of uninterrupted time.

If possible, sit with the sun on your face. ¬†If it’s not possible, at least sit near a window, or outdoors, even if it is in the shade, or under a shelter.

Breathe in. Really pay attention to that breath.  Feel it swelling your lungs.  Feel the passage of air from your nostrils down into your lungs.  Feel your chest expand. Have an awareness of that breath.

When you breathe out, once again, pay attention.  Feel the air exiting your lungs, feel it moving softly back through your nasal passages and out into the space in front of you.  Feel your lungs emptying and contracting.  Notice how that feels in your body.

Breathe in again.  Do this mindfully five times, inhaling and exhaling.  Just sitting in awareness.

Image from blisscentre.com

Now, repeat this process, but this time do it with your eyes closed.  Five breaths in, and five breaths out.

Finally, do this exercise one last time, but this time, imagine that you are breathing in energy.  Imagine that you are breathing in love and healing. With each exhale, imagine that you are releasing something that no longer serves you. Feel your connection to the world around you.  Notice if your breath links you to a time, a place or a person, now or at any time in history.

When you are finished, sit quietly for a moment with your eyes closed and give Thanks to the Universe for this sacred breath, for this gift of life, for this wondrous connection to all that is.  Bless ♥ xx

Day 12 – Gratitude Challenge

“Begin to see yourself as a soul with a body rather than a body with a soul.”
~ Wayne Dyer

We’ve been so busy being grateful for the world around us, and the people in our lives, that we’ve spent little time giving thanks for one of the most amazing blessings of all – our own bodies.

We are Souls having human experiences, and our Souls are housed in the most wondrous of vehicles. We are gifted with sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell.  We are gifted with movement.  We have thoughts and emotions, and our bodies provide us with the means to visualise, create and explore.

Our physical bodies have a wisdom all of their own, and guide us on a journey from conception though to the end of our days – constantly changing, adapting, evolving.

It is only because of the miracle of our physical bodies that our souls can have this human experience.

Image from grazia.ninemsn.com

It isn’t about outer beauty, our weight or the colour of our eyes or hair. External beauty is subjective, and transient at best.

Today, give thanks for a body that gives us the privilege of walking on this earth.  Give thanks for a body that serves us; a heart that keeps beating, legs to walk with, fingers to type with, hands to hold, eyes to see, ears to hear, a mouth to talk and taste. Internal organs and a mind that keep the whole show running without our conscious input.

Loving My Body

When you have your bath or shower today, take a few minutes and really appreciate your body. As you wash each part of your body, spend a moment and give thanks for all it does for you.  For example: Say out loud Thank you, foot and then say why you are thankful for your foot.  Let your shower be an act of gratitude and self love.

When you towel yourself dry or rub moisturiser into your skin, thank the Universe for providing you with this precious body.  Give thanks for your health and well-being, knowing that whatever we value and affirm multiplies in our lives.

Healing with Crystals – Day Two

Today I’m going to look at some very simple healing techniques using crystals. These can be used for yourself, loved ones, and even for your pets. ¬†My dogs both love having any form of energy work and I have even used crystals for my cows!

Crystals for Emotional and Energetic Support:

Crystals all have their own energy fields, and their own natural healing qualities. ¬†Each stone will also have its own unique energy or personality, just as humans do. Small stones can have big fields, so don’t underestimate those smaller stones.

One of the easiest ways to use a crystal is simply to wear it as jewellery, tuck it into your bra or pop it in your pocket.

You could also place it beside you in the workplace, on your bedside table, or under your pillow.

Some of my personal favourites that are easy to source are:

  • Carnelian – for physical energy. ¬†Great for when you are feeling run down, exhausted, or unwell.
  • Rose Quartz – for emotional support, self love, nurture and comfort.
  • Labradorite – for soothing the mind, bringing clarity, calm and gentle wisdoms. ¬†A highly spiritual stone that is also very grounding.
  • Amethyst – for psychic and spiritual awakening, protection, guidance and sealing your aura.
  • Hematite – for protecting you on all levels and giving you strength. ¬†Really deflective for other people’s negativity or aggression.
  • Citrine – for joy, abundance and positive opportunity.
  • Jasper – (there are so many beautiful jaspers to choose from, but they all have similar basic qualities) for grounding, calming and healing the emotions and physical body.
  • Fluorite – for enhancing creativity and flow of ideas, and attracting new opportunities that make best use of your gifts.
  • Calcite – for hearing and working with your Guides.
  • Smoky Quartz – for protection against electromagnetic radiation, and all negative vibrations and emanations.
  • Sodalite – for speaking your truth and clear communication.
  • Aventurine – for physical healing, removal of toxins, playfulness and a sense of great joy.

What is most important when choosing a crystal to wear or keep with you is that you are attracted to it, or attracted to the idea of it. Let your intuition guide you.  Children are naturally good at this, so you might also want to ask a small person to choose a stone for you if you feel unsure.

You may also want to place them where you spend a lot of time – the picture below is of the crystal selection on the windowsill above my kitchen sink!

Placing stones on the body:

This is a lovely thing to do, and it’s easy. Here’s a few variations you can try.

  • Simply choose one or more stones, lay them on your body, or the body of a loved one or pet, and then visualise or direct energy through the stone and into the part of the body where you want to promote healing. (I have bandaged crystals to parts of me with great result!) Even just lying down with the stone placed on your body is helpful.

  • Hold a tapered crystal or a wand, offer a prayer for the Highest Good, and then direct energy from the stone into the affected area, or energy centre of the body. (This usually works better doing it for others than on yourself.)
  • Hold a crystal over your heart, and then direct energy and light THROUGH that crystal and send the combined energy of the crystal and the light anywhere in your body that needs support, or even flood your entire body with that energy. ¬†This is great to do when you are lying in bed, just before you go to sleep.¬†I’ve included a short guided meditation at the end of today’s post to talk you through this process.

A simple guided Crystal Healing Meditation:

NoteAs I was recording this, just on dawn this morning, a group of crows came and sat on the fence in front of me. ¬†They all looked at me and then began adding their own special energy to this meditation, so don’t be surprised to hear their voices amidst mine. ¬†Crow Healing is considered very powerful by Australian Aborigines and Native American Indians, and I consider it a Blessing that these crows turned up today!

All you need for this healing session is a crystal and a comfortable place to lie down.  While it can be done in a seated position, lying down will enable you to relax deeply and fully. Once you understand the basics of this technique you can guide yourself through it without the aid of the recording.

Crow Magic: Crows are the messengers of the spiritual world. When Crows make an appearance, they herald great healing and change. They work with the energies of transformation, and are considered a sign that Spirit is actively supporting your growth and the journey of spiritual awakening.
