Being Me Means Being Curly!

“Don’t compromise yourself – you’re all you have.”
~ John Grisham

Hi, Lovelies!

I did something a little out of the ordinary for me, yesterday. I went to the hairdresser.

I usually don’t love the whole hairdressing thing. Everyone always wants to straighten my hair, and give me the sorts of styles that take hours of upkeep. And that’s SO not me.

I was born a curly girl. I have hair that needs washing once a week, or maybe once a fortnight. I brush it just before I wash it, bit other than that it just does its own thing. I don’t own a comb. I don’t own a hairdryer. I don’t have any styling irons or products for that. I’m low-key when it comes to hair.

Earlier this year I went to a new hairdresser and I told her I love my curly hair and that it’s part of who I am. I came home looking like this:

You might wonder how that happened. After my trim the hairdresser began drying my hair and suddenly I realized she was drying it straight. When I asked her why she was getting rid of my curls, she said ‘Because curly hair is ugly. Anyway, a change is good and it’s too late to go back to curls now. Hubby will love the new you! You should come back later this week and get a chemical straightening treatment so you never have to have ugly hair again.’

You can bet I never went back! It was so confronting to look in the mirror! I didn’t feel like myself at all.

Eep!

So, yesterday I went to a hairdresser who specializes in curls, who loves curls, who celebrates curls.

This time I came home looking a lot more like myself!

Here I am at the end of the day, exhausted but a curly girl again. Nothing was done to my hair except that it was loved up, well cut and treated kindly. Hooray for that.

No matter what your own personal style is, make sure to stay true to you.

Lots of love, Nicole xx
