A Sokli Kind Of Walk

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

Benjamin Franklin

I needed to go for a walk to do some chores yesterday morning. Rain was forecast for the afternoon, so I got ready to leave home – without my umbrella.

As I stood at the front door I heard the cheeky little voice of my fairy friend, Sokli. ‘Take your umbarella,’ she said.

So I took my ‘umbarella’ and walked out into a perfectly sunny day.

I’d walked a couple of blocks when I heard her little voice again, ‘Put your umbarella up!’

There wasn’t a cloud in the sky, but I dutifully put up my umbrella and kept walking.

Bang.

Bang.

I was swooped by cranky nesting Magpies, big beautiful black-and-white Australian birds who are notorious for attacking humans during breeding season.

They hit the umbrella a few more times as I walked by, my head protected by the shield Sokli had so thoughtfully suggested I take. On the way home I walked the same way, and once again Sokli told me when to put the umbrella up, and when to take it down again.

Thank goodness for fairies!

Much love, and a slightly dinged up ‘umbarella’, Nicole xx
