It’s not safe out here. It’s wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it’s not for the timid.
Q – Star Trek
Hey, Lovelies.
I’ll be honest. It’s been a little rough here on the health front. Nothing catastrophic, but I’m experiencing some old Lyme symptoms that haven’t shown themselves for a while, and I have a few new things that are currently under investigation. Which, like most complex health things, could take months before I have anything concrete to share…
That’s pretty much situation normal in my life. I don’t always bang on about my health – there are far more interesting topics to explore. But, as anyone with a chronic illness knows, it’s always there in the background. And sometimes it’s in the foreground too, but we don’t draw attention to it.
One of the annoying recurrences I have been experiencing is what I now refer to as ‘Gorn Attack’. (I blogged a whole explanatory post about it here – and if you’re a Trekkie you’ll love it for the awesome pics even if you don’t care for the Lyme backstory!) Gorn attack is this annoying pain I get, mostly at night, where it feels like tiny lizards with very sharp teeth are attacking me – skin, muscles, bones and all.
I make light of it, but it’s quite awful and sleep destroying.
So, I had to laugh when a strange package turned up in my Post Box, addressed to me, from a toy store. At first I thought it was a mistake, until I opened the box.
This is what I found inside:
My darling husband got me a glow-in-the dark real life Gorn to keep me company. That’s true love!
Ben’s oddball humor is just the thing to help me cope with ongoing stress.
I love this new Star Trek friend, and I find his strange glow-in-the dark eyes and smile to be comforting when my Gorn attacks wake me up in the middle of the night, or stop me going to sleep at all.
I just ask my Personal Gorn to chase all the tiny Lyme Gorns away, and I trust that he will.
Strangely, I think it is helping.
Just like Tiny Spock helped Sheldon Cooper in the Big Bang Theory, except for reals!
I’ll leave you with some pics of my new night-time guardian, watching over me.
Love, fortitude and some pesky pains, Nicole xx
