Humble Thank-Yous

“A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you.” ~ Elbert Hubbard

Hey, Lovelies.

I just wanted to thank you for the outpouring of support and love that you showed me yesterday when I updated you on why I’ve been so stuck with my memoir.

Not long after I posted my blog Facebook brought up a memory from six years ago for me to look at. It was a flock of Black Cockatoos that I had photographed as they flew over our farm. And most of you will know that Auntie always promised me her mob would show up as Black Cockatoos when they had a message for me or to keep an eye on me.

Later in the day they turned up in person, roosting in the hoop pines and calling loudly to me and to one another.

I took all of these things as strong signs that I need to bravely press on and just keep on writing til this story is done.

Thanks again. Your support means the world to me. It can get very lonely on this side of the screen, and your responses really helped remind me of WHY I am writing this book,

Biggest love and hugs, Nicole ❤ xx

Win a Magical Talisman Just For You!

“Believe something and the Universe is on its way to being changed. Because you’ve changed, by believing. Once you’ve changed, other things start to follow. Isn’t that the way it works?”
~ Diane Duane, So You Want to Be a Wizard

Last week I shared the story of how I brought my friend Carly’s magical Writing Talisman into being. A Talisman is a small spiritual object which has been created with love and infused with specific energies to help attract or achieve a certain outcome.

Made by my own hands from feathers found at my farm, and with the energies of Crow and Magpie, I crafted this Talisman to help Carly with her writing – so that she might be encouraged to share her personal story. The Talisman was an entreatment to go deeper, to be brave in sharing truth, at gifting this story in a way that might illuminate the way for others. I supported the energy of the feathers with banded red and black agate, bone, marble, black tourmaline, rosewood and a few chakra stones that support communication and flow of words.

I also had two other feathers, one from a Green Catbird and one from a Black Cockatoo. I knew that from them I would craft a second Talisman which I would give away to one of you, my dear readers.

But it didn’t feel complete until Madam Crow gifted me a third feather.

Now I shall shape these three beautiful feathers into something specific to you. I won’t actually finish my Talisman until I have chosen a winner. Then I will tune in to you and select the stones, beads and other embellishments that will hold and enhance the spiritual energies that I place into this Talisman, ready to gift those energies to you. It will be custom-made to your own energies and needs.

Do you think this Talisman might be for you?

If so, then enter your name in the comments section below.

And every time you share this post on facebook, instagram or twitter with the hashtag #NicoleCodyTalisman I’ll give you an extra entry into the competition.

I will draw the Winner on Saturday November 5th at 8pm Brisbane Australia time, and announce the winner here on the blog on November 7, 2016.

Can you see the Black Cockatoos in the photo above?

It’s our last day of retreat, and this morning I have been greeted by the mournful cry of the Black Cockatoos as they streak across the dawn sky. They always remind me of my Aboriginal Aunties, and whenever they appear I feel they are telling me that they’re watching me, and that I am on the right track. I feel them calling me home.

It is a tender morning for my heart, this morning. My students will leave our care today and go back out into the everyday world. The world will feel the same as it ever was, but for them everything has changed.

Change is so often like that. Something profound happens. Your very soul shifts. You are different. The person you once were is gone. And yet, on the outside, you still look the same. It is possible no-one else will notice this radical transformation.

It reminds me of that Zen proverb:

Today my students will go forth into the world. Their everyday lives will resume. For them everything will be both the same, and new.

I could not be more proud nor hopeful.

Storms and Black Cockatoos

2013-01-29 08.14.26

“Nothing ever goes to plan, Nicole. You should know that by now!” Ben Phillips (husband)

It’s a gorgeous sunny morning here at the farm, but oh, what a storm we had last night. Thunder, lightning, hail, ferocious winds and then we lost power, right at sunset. So my day of enforced rest rolled on into the night.

Today there are trees down everywhere, and among other things our modem and telecommunications are fried, and will be days in the fixing.

Hello, Universe, I hear you! Me, resting? Well, obviously.

But the black cockatoos sang me to sleep and woke me up again as the sun was just peeking her head over the green hills behind us. What vivid and magical dreams I had!

I promise to share them with you soon. 🙂

There’s nothing else for it. We’re heading to the beach for a swim and then some breakfast while we wait for power to be restored. Just as soon as we have cleared enough fallen trees to get to the road…

How to work out what your heart wants…

“…everyone wants to be excited by something magical and wondrous – to be reminded of how they once saw the world …”
~ John Geddes

You don’t need to figure everything out on your own. There are always signposts, gentle nudges in the right direction, a trail of breadcrumbs, a giant flashing neon sign.

Problem is, when you are stuck in your head (yes, you know what I mean) going round and round with your own lousy thoughts and worries, being steered by your anxieties and insecurities, it can be easy to miss all that guidance.

Late yesterday afternoon as I was standing in the paddock, five black cockatoos flew over my head. As they neared me they began to call. They cruised directly over me, although they had that whole expanse of sky at their disposal. Then they wheeled around at the old hoop pine, flew over my head once again for good measure, screeching at me the entire time, before alighting back in the hoop pine.

My whole body tingled, and the hairs rose on my arms. You see, that morning I’d been struggling with where to go next with my writing. I have several unfinished projects, each of which will take me in a very different direction. Which one should I run with? I just couldn’t decide…

When those black cockatoos turned up in the paddock I was flooded with knowing. Here were my black sisters, my Kimberley Aunties, flying over to comfort, reassure and remind me. Suddenly the direction I needed to take was writ clear in my mind, as well as my heart.

Today, if you’re in that place of needing some clarity – here I am, waving a big sign for you.

You have this awesome internal guidance system inside you, called your SOUL. And your soul communicates with you by intuition.

If you’re uncomfortable with the concept of a soul, then perhaps think of this energy as your own internal wisdom and most heartfelt, honest preferences.

Your soul isn’t governed by your head. Your mind is just a helpful super-computer at your soul’s disposal. You won’t get the answers you seek from your mind alone. Being stuck in your head is most often a fruitless exercise, or at least one of diminishing returns the more time we spend there.

The magic starts when our heart and mind connect and share wisdoms with one another. The heart knows, and the mind has the genius to make it happen.

Right now, if you’re feeling lost or stuck, it’s perfectly okay to ask for a sign or some kind of answer that gives you clarity – or at least a place to start. Then trust that your Soul and the Universe will use everything at their disposal to get that message to you.

For me, yesterday, it was black cockatoos.

You’ll know what it is for you. Your soul will make the message or the messenger look brighter, shinier, more obvious – this thing, whatever it is, will just stand out more. It will be meaningful for YOU.

It might be a sign on the back of a bus, a song on the radio, an article in the newspaper, a recurring image or idea. Don’t worry about what it could be – just trust that this thing will make itself known to you!

Eg: You’re thinking about returning to study, and you need to have your application in today, but is it the right thing to do? On the way to work you get stuck behind this bus…

Suddenly, you have your answer. You’re on fire. You just KNOW what you need to do!

There’s another thing I need to tell you, to help you recognise what it will be. It won’t be mind driven. Mind-driven solutions are logical, expected and rational. And quite often they leave us dragging our feet. Our heart won’t be in it. We won’t light up when we think about it. It will be an answer or solution we feel we should take, one that will be a crowd pleaser or the sensible choice. Tune in – part of you will be sitting in deep resistance to that particular idea.

If that’s how you feel, that’s not your thing…

Yesterday, as I watched my black cockatoos and thought about my wise Aunties, and as my heart knew which direction to take, I was filled with bright energy and hope. My eyes pricked with tears.

And I also knew the answer had been in me all along. It was just my mind that was objecting…

Your heart always knows what it wants. Your Soul is perfectly equipped to get that message to your conscious mind.

The whole Universe is contriving to help you live your best life.

So ask. And trust.

I have so much faith in you…

I’ll leave you with the sounds of the black cockatoos, Much Love, Nicole xx

Qigong and the Old Hoop Pine

There is an old Hoop Pine outside my back door, next to the wooden shed that will soon become my new library and office.  It is the first tree that greets me each morning. When I moved here four and a half years ago I hadn’t yet begun to see auras around plants, animals and places. But I knew that tree had a special energy.

On my fortieth birthday I woke up and I could see colour all around me, in everything living thing, and many more besides.

One thing I noticed straight away was the old Hoop Pine. It had a small energy for such a big tree, and was predominantly pale gold.

I often practice qigong at dawn, after my morning meditation, and I do this on the grass just outside my back door.

One day during my practice I noticed the Hoop Pine’s auric field begin to pulse. It grew a little brighter.

It was still brighter the next morning.

I did some more qigong. The Hoop Pine pulsed.

The tree’s auric field still seems small for such a big tree, but it is so bright, and when I walk close to it, I feel its shimmery energy. I have often drawn on that energy when I have most needed it, and to me it smells like fresh pine needles as it surges through my own aura.

It is the favourite haunt of the black cockatoos, even when the tree is not fruiting.  They fly in and sit awhile in its branches until their auras too start to glow more brightly.

Several times I have seen this Hoop Pine shoot golden energy out from its crown into the world.  It reminds me of a bomb going off – that rapid ballooning and surging of energy that goes BOOM and then is gone. It often coincides with the lunar cycle, but not always.

I have begun to see the sentience in the world around me.  Not just humans, not just animals, but plants. And as with us, some animals are elders of their tribes, and some plants hold that space too.

I met an elephant once, who had the most amazing aura I have ever seen, including a psychic channel.  She looked right at me as though she knew me, and reached out her trunk to stroke my cheek. But that’s a whole other story. Maybe I”ll tell you one day…
