Just For Today, Choose Kindness

“Be kind whenever possible.  It is always possible.”

“When we feel love and kindness towards others, it not only makes others feel loved and cared for, but it helps us also to develop inner happiness and peace.”

~ Both quotes from The Dalai Lama

I have a little challenge for you today. It’s a kind of soul medicine, and although it can be a little difficult if you’re out of practice, the more you move into the energy of this challenge the more you will find that it was always your soul’s default position. Think of this challenge as a way to restore your factory settings!

Ready?

Just for today, choose kindness.

Choose to smile from your heart.

Hold back any harsh thoughts, words or criticisms, and find a way to be gentle in your dealings with self and others.

Let kindness be both your journey and your destination.

Just for today, choose kindness.

Let kindness colour the way you see the world.

Put away judgement, and seek out things that can swell your heart with gratitude.

Look for the good in people, the beauty in your surroundings, the blessings at your feet.

Appreciate the simple things, and if you can, share those simple things with others.

A caring word, a gentle touch, a nod of support – none of these things will cost you a penny, but to someone they might be priceless gifts.

When we choose kindness, we ease the way for ourselves and others.  We become an agent for flow and abundance.  Our attitude affirms the goodness and connection inherent in this experience we call life.

We may become an Earthly Angel for someone for whom the Universe intends support or encouragement. God and good can only work THROUGH us. Why not be an agent for that good? Why not be choose to be part of a deliberate energy of love and positivity?

Whatever we choose to think and believe, whatever actions we offer up to the world, our energies come back to us, multiplied.

Trust that the kindness we offer today will find its way back to us when we most need it.

Through the act of living from our hearts, we are transformed, becoming magnetic to even more good-will and positive energy.

Just for today, choose kindness.

Let the energy of love transform your life.  Let the energy of love transform our world.

Just for today, choose kindness.

Today, in someone’s darkness, you can be the Light. ♥

Sending all my love to you, Nicole xoxo

What Divine Intervention Looks Like

“I don’t want to live in the kind of world where we don’t look out for each other. Not just the people that are close to us, but anybody who needs a helping hand. I can’t change the way anybody else thinks, or what they choose to do, but I can do my bit.”
~ Charles de Lint

Yesterday, in the middle of the night, I received a facebook message. How did I know that? My phone dinged. I’d forgotten to turn off the ringer, and I’d forgotten to take it downstairs to put on the charger as I usually do each night. So as I turned it to silent I glanced at the message.

It was a reader of my blog. Alan – a 36-year-old man in Canada. A man in trouble. He has schizophrenia, induced from illness after travel vaccines many years ago. His illness has become uncontrollable. He has miserable side-effects from his medication. Alan was thinking about committing suicide. In fact, he was ready to take an overdose, and just wanted to reach out to me first.

As I texted with him on my phone I opened my iPad and brought up messenger. Another blog reader I know lives in Canada. I’ve never met her, but we’ve exchanged many messages. Susan is a mental health nurse. I thought maybe she could help.

I asked Alan for his address. Susan coincidentally lives in the same city. As I kept chatting to Alan via text and then Skype my friend made a call. She has two male colleagues, also mental health nurses, who live literally a block away from the man who had reached out to me. As I kept skyping, they went over to Alan’s apartment.

They knocked on his door and I told Alan that some friends were there to help him.

My involvement then ended.

I’ve heard this morning that they were able to get Alan to come to their workplace, where he was assessed by a new doctor. His previous doctor had not reviewed Alan’s meds in over ten years. The new doctor believes that the medication was unsuitable and was compounding Alan’s problems.

Alan is now in care, being assessed and getting help to come back to a place of balance. Thank goodness for my friend, Susan and her caring colleagues! Alan sent me a message this morning to thank me, and to tell me that he feels hopeful for the first time in many years. He has been offered a place in a support program.

What are the odds that a virtual stranger could contact someone on the opposite side of the world, and receive help from around the corner?

I’d call that an everyday miracle, wouldn’t you?

Kindness Challenge – Week Five

“The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.”
~ John Muir

It’s fitting, in a way, that I couldn’t bring you last week’s kindness challenge due to in part to the extreme weather events we were experiencing in our part of the world. But here we are. On with the challenge!

Hello Lovelies! Welcome to Week Five of our six week Kindness Challenge.

To participate in today’s challenge all you need to do is select and perform one of the following kindness activities. The beneficiary of our acts of kindness for Week Five is our beautiful Planet.

Our planet could use a little kindness right now. It gives so much, we take so much, and there is a fragile balance here that deserves our mindfulness and care.

I encourage you to find one or two things from the following list that you can commit to doing on a regular basis. This is the only earth we get. We owe it to ourselves, our planet, and our future, to do the best we can for this biosphere we call home.

Okay, Kindness Ambassadors, let’s go!

  1. Leave the car at home. Walk, ride your bike, catch a lift with a friend or use public transport.
  2. Water a thirsty plant.
  3. Plant a tree.
  4. Start a vegetable garden, even if it is just a few herbs in tubs on your windowsill.
  5. Recycle your waste.
  6. Put a birdbath in your garden.
  7. Buy less. Use less.
  8. Re-use and re-purpose. Buy what you need second-hand. Repair the broken thing, re-sole your favourite shoes. Do what you can to utilise what has already been created. If you no longer need it, pass it on to someone who will.
  9. Don’t buy products that use ivory, tortiseshell, coral, shark, tiger teeth, or reptile skins. These animals and plants are endangered.
  10. Use less processed food, and more fresh locally grown and produced foods.
  11. Don’t waste food.
  12. Buy dolphin-friendly fish, and fish that is sustainably grown or caught.
  13. Take your canvas bags to the supermarket.
  14. Use your own water bottle or coffee cup, rather than a disposable one.
  15. Start a worm farm or a composting program for your food waste.
  16. Turn lights and appliances off when you’re not using them.
  17. Stop using chemicals in your garden and look for natural alternatives.
  18. Stop using chemicals in your personal care and cleaning products and look for natural alternatives.
  19. Use both sides of the paper. Recycle when finished.
  20. Support farmers who farm organically, sustainably and cruelty-free.
  21. Wear an extra jumper or put another blanket on the bed rather than using the heater.
  22. Dry your clothes using sunshine.

  26. Organise a clothes swap party with your friends.
  27. Wash in cold or warm water, not hot.
  28. Buy local, including supporting local artists.
  29. Don’t buy stuff just because it’s cheap! CreeIndianProphecy-e1373927658240
  30. Use rechargeable batteries.
  31. Take a shorter shower, or shower with a friend. 🙂
  32. Don’t flush medications or chemicals down the toilet or sink.
  33. Replace disposable products like razors with durable ones that have replaceable heads.
  34. Use real crockery and cups rather than disposables.
  35. Don’t release helium balloons into the air – they present significant risks to wildlife who may ingest them.
  36. Cut six-ring plastic pack holders (like the ones used for beer) apart before disposing of them so that they don’t harm wildlife.
  37. Fix dripping taps.
  38. Consider solar panels or a solar hot water system.
  39. Support groups and policies that work to protect natural spaces, habitat and endangered species. We all need wild spaces and clean environments.
  40. Use the cooled cooking water from vegetables or boiled eggs to feed to your houseplants or garden.

Day 11 – Gratitude Challenge

Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared. ~ Buddha

There is nothing as magnetic to positive life experiences as a joyful heart. Joy is heart-centred, and is the spiritual expression of happiness. It is centred in deep gratitude and awareness, and it can be generated by the smallest of things.

Take a look back through your gratitude journal and you’ll begin to see how many of the things that give you pause for appreciation are life’s simple moments and pleasures.

When we sit in deep gratitude and appreciation we begin smiling from the inside, laughter and kindness become second nature, and we feel abundant and benevolent towards the world…

As we have started every day of this Gratitude  Challenge let’s begin by amplifying our feel-good appreciation of the many good things in our lives.

Today let’s Count Our Blessings and Use our Gratitude Rock

If you need a detailed reminder of the process, you can review it here in Day 1 of the Gratitude Challenge.

  1. List five Blessings in your journal, explaining why you are grateful for each one.
  2. Count your Blessings off on your fingers, summoning positive emotion and saying Thank You from your heart for each one.
  3. Take yesterday’s request for help from underneath your Gratitude Rock. Hold it in your hands and say Universe, Thank you for the help I am receiving with ___________  I believe that the Universe supports me in every way. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.  Really feel that energy and gratitude in your own heart.  Trust that this help will find its way to you with perfect timing.
  4. Tonight before you go to sleep, hold your Gratitude Rock and affirm I am richly Blessed. I have an Abundance of Good in my life. Visualise one thing you have been grateful for today. Swell that positive energy up in your heart like a beautiful golden light, and give a heart-felt Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to the Universe, then imagine a tiny shower of golden light travelling from your heart into your Gratitude Rock.
  5. Still holding your Gratitude Rock, bless your fellow travellers on this Gratitude Journey by sending them golden light, and saying Thank you.  I Bless You.  I intend for you Love, Miracles and Abundance. Know that as you are saying this for them, they are also saying this for you. Feel that connection and gratitude and know that there is real love and support for you here. Place your rock back beside your bed, and go to sleep, cocooned in this good energy.

If all you do today is these five steps, know that is enough.

Of course, if you’d like to practice more gratitude, I have a special assignment for you…

The Art of Bliss Bombing

This is a gorgeous activity, and one of my favourites. Take yourself to a public place, like a mall, coffee shop, or a bench in a park near where people are walking by.  Sit somewhere unobtrusive.  When someone walks past, shoot a radiant shower of golden sparks from your heart to theirs and silently bless them with love.  You can even send joy and love from your heart to trees, animals, plants, bus-loads of commuters and overhead planes.  You might  want to say to yourself, “I bless you with love.  Know joy today.”  If anyone catches your eye, just smile.

Feel your open heart begin to tingle with energy and joy.  In that place of energetic connection look around you at the world and you will see that it IS brighter and more beautiful because of YOU.

Today you have acted as an Earth Angel.  Your Lightwork has helped contribute to our energetic abundance.

It’s okay to let your face crack open from smiling!  Thank the Universe for this amazing experience we call life.  Expect an outpouring of feel-good emotion. ♥ Don’t be at all surprised at how the Universe will mirror your love and energetic abundance back to you. You are becoming more and more magnetic to the flow of good and grace.
