What Quiet Sounds Like

“On soft Spring nights I’ll stand in the yard under the stars – Something good will come out of all things yet – And it will be golden and eternal just like that – There’s no need to say another word.” ~ Jack Kerouac, Big Sur

It’s late at night. Or to be more accurate, early morning. I’ve woken to a change coming through after another hot Spring day that felt more like early Summer. The air has cooled, there’s the scent of rain although none has fallen yet, and the house is quiet.

But not an empty quiet.

The house geckos are clicking and chirping and chattering away.

The big green tree frogs that live in the downpipes and the back garden are serenading each other with this promise of rain. They are lusty and enthusiastic in their deep bass croaking. It sounds a little like a frog orchestra.

Big frog

The sexy male koala we’ve nicknamed Romeo, who has taken up residence in the gums near the cattle yards, is barking and grunting and calling out to all his girlfriends. It’s a loud party in Romeo’s tree tonight.

The flying foxes have finally found the mulberry tree and are feasting loudly. They sound like crazed pixies with their squeaky protests and shrieks. I doubt they will leave any berries for me.

The wind chimes are tinkling and sounding their sweet notes, and the dry leaves are rustling and shaking with the windy sighs of the front approaching.

And here now, the gentle thud of a raindrop on the roof. And then another. Slow heavy drops which whip the frogs into a frenzy.

The ground itself sighs and releases the most heavenly aroma; spicy rich earth, dusty grass, dessicated leaves, camphor and hope…

I lie in my quiet bed and revel in the freshness of the moisture in the air. It’s been so dry since Winter – my little farm has become crispy and browned at the edges like an overbaked biscuit. This rain is a blessed relief.

Easing myself out of bed I tread carefully across the creaking floorboards, take a meditation cushion and head out to the veranda. I light a candle, some sandalwood incense and marvel for a minute as microbats flutter and swoop above my head on their way home to roost for the night.

Gladly, I surrender myself to prayer and then to silence.

Now, my meditation is finished. Still, the softest of rains are falling. The birds are waking, singing, joyful, and the dawn is breaking with a dull silver light. The leaves shine with moisture.

My heart is replete with gratitude, and a sense of comfort at the timing of these gentle showers.  Time now for tea and writing as I ease myself into the day.

Sending all my love to you and my intention that you, also, find peace in your heart today, ♥ Nicole xoxo

Strengthening Intuition Week 7 – Tuning in to Energetic Preferences

Image from www.frankie.bz

“Learn to let your intuition—gut instinct—tell you when the food, the relationship, the job isn’t good for you (and conversely, when what you’re doing is just right).” ~ Oprah Winfrey

So far, in our Strengthening Intuition Program, we’ve learned how to activate our hand chakras, and how to use our hands to sense energy in objects, people, places and food.  Today we’re going to learn two different ways of tuning in to things to find out if they are good for us or not.

Method One:

This method is great when you’re shopping, or putting together a meal.  It involves tuning in with your hand chakras to physically ‘feel’ which item, crystal or food is best for you in that moment.

Activate your hand chakras.  (If you need a refresher on how to do that, go here first and then over here.)

Clear your mind, and then focus on one thought:

What best serves my Highest Good?

While you hold this thought and intention in your mind, still your own thoughts and then run your hands over a selection of items.  The things that are good for you, and vibrationally aligned with your Highest Good, will feel tingly, warm and energised.  You may even find that your hands want to keep going back to certain things. Know that these items you’re energetically attracted to will serve you well. Remember too, that this may change from day to day, so keep tuning in.  After a while this process becomes easy and automatic.

Things that won’t serve your Highest Good may give no reaction, or feel ’empty’, cold, strange, or even give you a sense of physical or emotional discomfort.  Great! Stay away from those…

Bonus Use! – I have found this a great tool against emotional eating. When I follow this process at a time where I would normally eat for comfort or some other reason, I often find that NONE of the foods I’ve selected hold energy for me, and the very process of tuning in removes the need to eat anyway.

Method Two:

Sometimes it is impractical to run your hands over things, or you might want to evaluate an idea, choose a location or program, or think about a person.

Sit down and relax.  If you have images, brochures or other information, have this within easy reach.  Activate your hand chakras (see the links above in Method One), close your eyes, and use your hands to direct energy into your heart.  Sit like this for a minute or two until you feel calm, relaxed and peaceful.  This peaceful energy is absolutely necessary for this method to work.  When you are emotionally or mentally agitated, you’ll find it impossible to tune in.

From your place of calm, ask the question:

What best serves my Highest Good?

Now tune in to the thing, or things that you are considering. Hold an image or brochure in your hands.  With a calm mind, tune in through your hands and then bring your attention to your heart. How do you feel, when you are tuned in to this thing? Look for emotions that are calming, positive or uplifting. Look for a sense of certainty or safety.  If you feel anxious, unsettled, or uncomfortable, it’s not for you. If it holds no energy or emotion consider it neutral or not especially useful to you.

If you don’t have an image or tangible object to work with, then hold an image in your mind, and keep your hands apart and palms up on your lap, or resting on each knee.Use the same process as above, tuning in to your own emotions and intuition.

You can sit down and go through this procedure before entering a shop, social situation or a place where you will be gathering information.  When you are in this space of energetic connection you will find that certain objects, brochures or images appear visually brighter, or just stand out more and capture your attention somehow when you look at them. These sorts of ‘bright’ energies are always good for you!

My Embarrassing Affirmation Confession

Image from thebeginwithinblog.com

You affect your subconscious mind by verbal repetition ~ W. Clement Stone

Affirmations are a known powerful tool for change, and are used by many people for creating positive shift and personal growth.  Louise Hay has made affirmations a modern-day medicine for the soul. (You can sign up for her daily affirmations here)

An affirmation is a simple statement, said in the present tense, that affirms positively a fact or situation that is desirable in your life.  You state that thing as if it is already happening, and you repeat that statement many, many times, to imprint the message in your subconscious mind, so that this thing becomes true for you.

Here are some common examples:

I must admit that when I first heard about affirmations I was quite sceptical.

Stating something as a truth and then repeating that statement often, even if it hadn’t yet shown up in my life, seemed a little daft.  If nothing else, I felt  fake to be claiming things that weren’t actually true for me yet.

But the experts agreed that affirmations could change your life. What did I have to lose by a little positive thinking?

And this is where my embarrassment comes in…

I created a test affirmation.

I didn’t affirm that I choose health.  I didn’t affirm that every day in every way I am getting better and better.  I didn’t even affirm that great wealth is mine now.

No.  My affirmation was pretty much a deliberate act of ‘New-Age Thinking’ defiance.  There was nothing spiritual or enlightened about it at all. I chose it because I expected it to fail miserably.

This is what I chose:

Everything I want is always on special

That’s right. I affirmed that whenever I wanted to buy something, the Universe would provide it for me at a discounted rate.

I thought this was hilarious when I made it up. It seemed like the silliest idea in the world. But I dedicatedly repeated my affirmation whenever I thought about it – which was often seeing it made me laugh so much, and seeing I was going through a pretty rotten time financially back then.

And here’s the second part of my embarrassing confession…

It worked!

If I needed chocolate, my favourite brand was on special. Pasta? Reduced to clear! Holiday? Stay ten nights, pay for five.

The more I affirmed, the more noticeable it became until one day I just accepted this statement as my new reality.  Everything I want is always on special.

I’m so well known for this affirmation now among my family and friends that they expect this miracle to roll out for me too! I recently went to the shop to buy some ice-cream for dessert, taking a friend with me. “I knew this would be on special,” she said as she took a tub of heavily discounted premium deliciousness. “I should come shopping with you more often!”

We needed a holiday. A few days ago my husband and I booked a cruise. Why a cruise? We got 78% off the advertised rack rate. And then got a room upgrade!

When we went to book the airfares QANTAS was having a one day sale, and  a return ticket from Brisbane to LA was ridiculously discounted. The travel agent couldn’t believe our good timing. We just smiled, looked at each other and repeated Everything I want is always on special.

Affirmations work. I have plenty of others that I use now too, but my first ever affirmation is still my favourite.  It might not be ‘spiritual’ but it’s lots of fun, and it affirms to me that I live in an abundant and benevolent Universe.

Here are some others that I love:

Something wonderful will happen to me today (I love to affirm this when I first wake up – it sets the tone for my whole day!)

All good things come to me

I am surrounded with kind and helpful people

My creativity flows, and my good ideas are endless

My body is returning itself to health. Healing and well-being are my natural energies

If such simple thinking can change your life, and bring positivity and joy, maybe it might be worth you trying some affirmations for yourself. The video at the bottom of this post has some good ideas for affirmations too.

I’m holding you in that good space – wishing you well, wishing you love, joy, health and abundance.  Bless xx
