I’m a firm believer in the power of imagination. Connecting in to pleasurable memories, imaginings or visualisations has a proven positive affect upon our mood, our creative ability and our energetic vibration. It reduces stress, inflammation and anxiety and helps magnetise us to further abundance and good.

(Note: Conversely, this also works with dwelling on negativities, worries and past pains  darkening our mood, increasing stress, thwarting our creativity and lowering our vibration – so try your best not to go in that direction…)

There’s a question game my friends and I like to play sometimes. It involves using our imagination to take us somewhere fabulous, and then sharing that experience with each other. In fact, hearing about someone else’s magical journey has often inspired the rest of us to make real life travel plans, or at least menu choices!

And at times when my life has been less than wonderful, this game has kept me thinking of a brighter tomorrow, and got me through some less than great days. Many of the things I’ve imagined have ended up coming true. How fun is that!!!

PS – My 24 hours? While my puppies are being lovingly taken care of back at our farm I’ll wake up in a private bungalow right on the beach in a beautiful and remote part of Thailand. Of course my husband will be beside me! After my meditation we’ll go for a swim in the warm, tranquil ocean, enjoying the quiet and our own company. After a long walk along the beach we’ll dine on fresh papaya and lime, salad and a made-to-order omelette. Then a trip to visit some temples and local markets – lots of walking around and taking in the atmosphere, snacking on delicious Thai food and drinks. Later we’ll go for a massage and be completely spoiled with pampering. Perhaps another dip in the ocean. Then a romantic candlelit seafood dinner on the beach, before dancing the rest of the night away.

Making My Life Work for Me – Week 6

Welcome to the final week of our six week Making My Life Work for Me Program. (If you’ve only just joined us, you might like to pop back and read the very first post so you can gather the materials we’ll be using today and catch up on all our prior activities.)

Our focus this week is on putting it all together – now that we’ve been journalling and collaging and visualising, it’s time to get a plan! Change and progress come from action.

Instructions:

We have followed the same format each week.  Read through this entire post before you get started. You can do the activities all on one day, or spread them put over the week – whatever works best for you.

Meditation:

This week’s meditation exercise is a simple walking meditation.

To start hold your crystal or place it in your pocket, draping your scarf or shawl around you. Then step outside and go for a walk.  It doesn’t matter where you walk, although walks in nature are wonderful.  What is important is the sense of movement, and being able to empty your mind and simply enjoy observing your surroundings.

Remember this technique:

Breathe, and look around me. Breathe and put one foot in front of the other. Breathe and be aware of my body and my surroundings. Breathing and walking and being aware.

Set aside ten minutes for this, although you can take longer if you have the time or are enjoying yourself.

If it is not possible for you to walk, then close your eyes and take a walk in your imagination.  It will have the same effect.

Visualisation:

Do this straight after your meditation, when you are ready and open for receiving! Close your eyes and use your imagination. See yourself the way you want yourself to be in the world.  See yourself in a space of calm, filled with certainty and enthusiasm.  See yourself as healthy.  See yourself as happy. See yourself having the life you desire, in as much detail as possible.  Really put some energy into this.  You can repeat this step again this week (even daily) if it feels right.  Thoughts are things, and this is how you manifest in the Universe!

Using Your Journal:

Go back to the front of your journal and read your Pledge out loud one more time.

Then turn to the next blank pages, and write the following Positioning Statement, and sign it. When it’s written, repeat it out loud, with as much sincerity as you can muster. That way the Universe is put on notice of your intentions:

Dear Universe,

I am grateful for the clarity, direction and inspiration I have received so far.

I am ready to begin creating a life for myself that is satisfying and richly meaningful a life that reflects my values, and that best uses my talents and gifts.

I am ready to embrace positive change and to accept an avalanche of good in my life. 

My commitment to you is that I will create a plan, and take consistent small steps in the direction of my dreams.

I am open to Divine Inspiration, Higher Guidance, Magic and Miracles.  I am open to Breakthroughs, New Opportunities and Helpful People.

Card of the Week: 

2013-03-24 16.30.18Let’s start our week by selecting some reflective spiritual Guidance.  Take your deck of positive cards, or your rune bag.  Close you eyes and offer up a prayer for the Highest Good, and then quiet your mind.

Randomly select a card/rune, trusting that it will have a message to guide you this week.  Write down the name of the card/rune and the message.  Feel free to add any additional thoughts or insights you might have.

The final card I’ve chosen for us is all about the magic of thinking big – it encourages us to dream, and reminds us that there are powerful forces in the world which come together to support us as we move in the direction of our dreams.

This week, give yourself permission to dream of that brighter future.  Actively look for ways to bring more of the energies of positive change into your life.

Week 6 Journal Activity:

This week use your stream of consciousness around the question Where to from here? Stay open to whatever you write down, and don’t censor or judge anything as it pours out onto the page. Draw pictures or mind map if you feel like it.

And this week’s creative activity is:

Collage – The Best of Everything  This collage will help you to clarify the essence of what your heart desires.

Take your pile of old magazines and place them in front of you.  Holding your crystal close your eyes and say out loud “Universe, I am open to all Guidance and my own Higher Wisdom.  I know that I am worthy and deserving.  From this place of self love and self worth, show me what I most value and enjoy.”  Take a moment and sit in that energy, really feeling yourself connecting into and opening to all that your soul desires.

When you’re ready, open your eyes and start flicking through the magazines.  If any pictures or words appeal to you, cut or rip them out and place them beside you. When you have enough images cut them up neatly.

Place the images in your journal, laying them out so that you feel good when you look at them. Allow yourself to be excited!

If your journal isn’t big enough, feel free to use a sheet of cardboard. Glue your images to the page and leave it open to dry.

Pulling It All Together:

In the coming days and weeks, go back over your journal.  Take a highlighter, and look for all of the positive, inspiring and directional words and phrases you have included on these pages.

Look for repetitions of images, words and themes.

Look for words and images that strike a powerful emotional chord within you.

Look for the messages from your Soul to your Conscious Mind.

Write down a list of those themes and messages.

Now pick just three.

Choose one, and find a way to begin to bring that energy into your life.

When it has begun to appear, then begin on the second.  When that energy has also appeared in your life, begin on the third.

If it moves you, go back and do this process again.

Change comes from small consistent steps in the direction of our dreams. And small steps often travel us great distances…

Gratitude:

What’s already working in your life?  List five things in your journal each day that you are grateful for in your life.

Nightly Healing :

Get into bed and spend five minutes lying quietly in meditation with your eyes closed.  Call on God, Universal Energy, your Angels, your Guides, your Ancestors, whomever you feel comfortable and safe with.  Ask for their help.  Fill your body with white light, and then draw coloured light (just allow a colour to come to you) through your crown chakra (an energy point on the top of your head) and send it anywhere in your body that needs healing.  Feel the warmth as the energy radiates through your body, uplifting and healing you.  Know that answers will come while you are sleeping.

Give thanks, send this same healing gift from you to anyone or anywhere else if it feels right, and then sleep.  Expect dreams that clarify, empower and enlighten.

Day 25 – Gratitude Challenge

This 30 Day Gratitude Challenge is actually a healing journey.  By practicing daily gratitude we begin to erase old beliefs about lack and limitation, we over-write negative thought patterns and we learn to focus on what is good and positive in the world around us.  This aligns us with energies that bring greater good into our lives.

Something magical starts to happen when we focus on gratitude.

Every minute spent in gratitude is one minute less to spend on worry. It is impossible to be in that place of appreciation and at the same time feel anxious or stressed.

And when we stop being in the energy of stress and anxiety, even if just for a brief window of time, we allow our bodies, hearts and minds the chance to heal, and to become attuned to our nature rhythms and desires.

We begin to draw to us all manner of support, opportunity and flow. We step into abundance.

Counting Our Blessings and Using our Gratitude Rock

If you need a detailed reminder of our daily process, you can review it here in Day 1 of the Gratitude Challenge.

  1. List five Blessings in your journal, explaining why you are grateful for each one.
  2. Count your Blessings off on your fingers, summoning positive emotion and saying Thank You from your heart for each one.
  3. Write the following words on a piece of paper and add them to the ones already under your Gratitude Rock (and trust that I have a plan for these pieces of paper!): I now gratefully receive the fullness of the Blessings sent to me by friends both known and unknown. I am open to the Abundance of the Universe and I welcome it into my Life. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
  4. Tonight before you go to sleep, hold your Gratitude Rock and affirm I am richly Blessed. I have an Abundance of Good in my life. Visualise one thing you have been grateful for today. Swell that positive energy up in your heart like a beautiful golden light, and give a heart-felt Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to the Universe, then imagine a tiny shower of golden light travelling from your heart into your Gratitude Rock.
  5. Still holding your Gratitude Rock, bless your fellow travellers on this Gratitude Journey by sending them golden light, and saying Thank you.  I Bless You.  I intend for you Love, Miracles and Abundance. Know that as you are saying this for them, they are also saying this for you. Feel that connection and gratitude and know that there is real love and support for you here.
  6. Hold your Gratitude Rock up to your heart, close your eyes and feel the energy, love and blessings that have been sent by others now flowing into you.  You might feel this as warmth, or a positive surge of emotion.  You might connect with it as a healing or a spiritual energy, or you might just feel gratitude.  Pay attention to any colours, images, or messages you receive.  When you are done, place your rock back beside your bed, and go to sleep, cocooned in this good energy.

If all you do today is these six steps, know that is enough.

Continue to imagine the faces of people who have helped you, even if they are people you have never met in person, even if some of them are no longer alive. It could be a teacher from your childhood, the author of a book that changed you, someone who stopped to help you change a flat tyre…  You don’t even need to know their name, or to be able to recall their face clearly.  Think of the other people on this Gratitude Challenge who are sending you love, energy and support each day. Thank them for uplifting you. Thank them for contributing positive energy to your life.

If you feel drawn to it, shower sparkles of radiant light and love down upon the planet – spreading your gratitude like a gorgeous field of golden flowers.

Day 15 – Gratitude Challenge

Our bodies have an innate wisdom.  They know how to move, they know how to heal, they know how to create balance and how to communicate with us.

For bodies to heal effectively they need a number of things – good nutrition, rest, emotional peace, and sometimes the hands of a skilled healer or medical practitioner to ease or correct what we cannot do for ourselves. (Some other good ideas for better health here)

For us to truly facilitate that state of healing, we need to do our best to step out of resistance and into flow.

You’ll know that feeling of resistance – resistance is filled with doubt, complaint, fear, and ‘lack of ‘…

You will hopefully also recognise flow – flow is a space of ease, grace, acceptance, peace and emotional well-being.

When we are in flow our physical, emotional and spiritual healing capacity is greatly magnified.  Our body, mind and soul can more easily recover and repair. (You can read more about that here)

One of the fastest ways to get back into flow is to cultivate an attitude of gratitude.

Hold a Picture Of Wellness in Your Mind

No matter what your current state of health, you need to make peace with that. There is no point in fighting the reality of your current situation. If you’re fat, you’re fat.  If you’re in pain, if you can’t get pregnant, if your legs ache or your blood pressure is too high, well it is what it is.  Stop fighting it, making excuses for it, or pretending it isn’t happening. Accept what is.

Accepting what is, without judgement, is the first step in making positive change in your life.

The second step is letting go of your attachment to what is.  Where you are today is the result of yesterday’s thinking, yesterday’s actions, yesterday’s focus or lack of focus.

The third step is to hold a clear picture in your mind of what you DO want in your life, and find a way to summon positive emotion around that.  Be grateful for the small things already present in your life that relate to health and well-being.  Celebrate health and well-being in others.  Visualise health and wellness coming to you.  See yourself as healthy, active, energised, healed, whole.

Today spend five minutes visualising yourself in a place of wellbeing, however that looks to you.  Feel gratitude for the positive improvement in your health as if it has already happened. Swell that feeling of gratitude and love in your heart, and say Thank You to the Universe for this gift of healing and health.

My intention for you today is that you allow yourself to be in flow with health and wellbeing. I wish for you an abundance of feel-good energy and vitality.  Bless ♥ xx

Making Peace with Right Now while Holding a Picture of a Brighter Tomorrow

The reason for today’s post comes from something seemingly ordinary. But what’s ordinary for some can be positively miraculous for others.

Yesterday I walked up the stairs carrying two laptops and a ridiculously heavy bag of books. Ordinary enough, hey? But not for someone with cardiomyopathy. For over two years I have struggled with stairs, let alone carrying a load at the same time. Stairs usually leave me breathless as my enlarged heart battles to get blood and oxygen around to all the right places with the sudden burst of physical activity.

Yesterday I got to the top of the steps, walked into my office and then thought, “Oh. My. God.”

No chest pain, no panting or racing heart – just normal old got to the top of the stairs and kept walking.

Why is this such a big deal? Well, to me it proves a very important point:

Changing your thinking can change your life.

There is no point in fighting the reality of your current situation. If you’re fat, you’re fat.  If your finances are a mess, they’re a mess. If you procrastinate, well that’s just what you’ve been doing.  Stop fighting it, making excuses for it, or pretending it isn’t happening. Accept what is.

Accepting what is, without judgement, is the first step in making positive change in your life.

Where you are today is the result of yesterday’s thinking, yesterday’s actions, yesterday’s focus or lack of focus.

According to the Law of Attraction, (there’s a good definition of the Law of Attraction here) whatever you focus your attention on, is what you draw to you in your life. Resisting or fighting anything, dwelling on it, obsessing on it, worrying on it, speaking of it – all those actions keep that thing you don’t want fixed firmly on your horizon.

This quote from Abraham really sums it up:

You will notice that those who speak most of prosperity, have it. Those who speak most of health, have it. Those who speak most of sickness, have it. Those who speak most of poverty, have it. It is Law. It can be no other way… The way you feel is your point of attraction, and so, the Law of Attraction is most understood when you see yourself as a magnet getting more and more of the way you feel. When you feel lonely, you attract more loneliness. When you feel poor, you attract more poverty. When you feel sick, you attract more sickness. When you feel unhappy, you attract more unhappiness. When you feel healthy and vital and alive and prosperous—you attract more of all of those things.

When my doctors first gave me a diagnosis of cardiomyopathy caused by a virus which had induced a heart attack, after everything else I’ve been through, I took a day or two to come back to a place of calm after the shock of their news. I accepted what they’d told me, and I set about making peace with that.  I decided to make every day count, and that has been a lasting Blessing in my life.

My doctors also told me that after two years, there was no chance of improvement, and to expect a decline, which might be steady or fast, and that would lead to needing a transplant, or possibly, death.

If I have cardiomyopathy, then that is my current reality. After the news I mourned, grieved, got over myself and moved on. I have made choices to focus on health and on life.  I have embraced natural therapies, food as medicine, and visualisation. I live with it, and I embrace the current reality of it.  It is what it is.  Sure I have had many reminders of my health situation, such as chest pain and lack of breath, but I have not let it define me, and I have often forgotten it is even there!

Each morning in my meditation, and each night before I go to bed, I see myself as healthy, vibrant and living a full life where I can share my joy and gifts with others. Why bother with this, when my life doesn’t look like that now?  Because reality has a funny way of changing itself over time…

And yesterday my reality shifted. Today I am in a different space!

I have always believed in holding a picture of a brighter tomorrow, of embracing optimism, doing what I can, and turning the rest over to the Universe.  I expect miracles. And in expecting them, they show up in my life.

So what about you? Stop looking at your life as it is and being unhappy with that.  Accept what is.  Forgive yourself and others if that is what’s needed. And then find a place in your life where you can summon the smallest amount of gratitude, appreciation or happiness. (Don’t know how to do that? Here’s some info that will help!)

Hold a picture in your heart of a brighter tomorrow. Trust. Cherish and nurture your dreams.  Miracles happen daily. They can happen for you too! ♥ xx

Manifesting New Directions and Opportunities

It still amazes me how writing and visualising can create a magnetic pull in your life that attracts relationships, synchronicities and opportunities to you that are a match to your talents and intent. Writing has great power, and today’s exercise uses journal writing and visualisation as tools to help you open doors, invite opportunity and attract helpful people.

Expect answers and solutions. They often come from left field, and they often manifest themselves very quickly.  The more happy, positive and in flow you feel, the faster your solutions and opportunities will arrive. (If you’re not sure what makes you feel good, or how to get into that happy place, there is a great journal exercise and suggestions here.)

Journal Activity

Begin by writing the following passage into your own journal.  Feel free to use coloured inks if you wish, or anything else that brightens up your page.  Then choose one or more of the journal starters below and just start writing.  Let the words flow from your heart.  Don’t over-think anything, and most importantly don’t censor anything or limit yourself.  You can use the same journal starter more than once if it really resonates for you.

Use the page to create, imagine, and daydream your best self.  Feel yourself expanding out from the current limits of your life, dipping your toes in that glorious ocean of possibility.

Dear Universe, 

I believe there is more in store in life for me that what is in front of me right now. I have so many gifts to share, and I just need a little help to shine more brightly. I would appreciate some helpful people, some new opportunities, some great teachers and any other synchronicities or miracles you can throw my way.  I know some of these can be quickly sorted, and some may take more time. I am open to however this works.

Daydreaming your way to a new life

When you have ten minutes all to yourself where you won’t be disturbed, go sit in a comfy chair, lie down on the bed, or spend some time in nature.  Take your journal with you! Open up this exercise and read one of your answers.  Use that as a starting point, close your eyes or gaze off into the distance and just daydream yourself in that ideal life.  See yourself having a great time, being successful and happy, getting the thing done, achieving the goal, getting the promotion, having the life or the lifestyle, winning the award, getting married, having that dream trip, riding off into the sunset… See that teacher coming into your life, or your soul mate. Really feel how wonderful that will be, to love and to use your gifts and to live your purpose.  An amazing and satisfying and fulfilling life.

Know that daydreaming and visualisation is a proven manifestation tool.  Indulge often!

♥ Meditation for reducing inflammation and promoting healing within your body

Maidenhair fern from my garden - the delicate leaves remind me of the branching nerves and capillaries in our bodies, and green is always so anti-inflammatory, don't you think?

I am a great believer in the body’s wisdom and capacity to heal itself. Today’s blog is a guided healing meditation for you to assist in removing inflammation in your body, protecting nerves and circulation to the brain, heart, organs and limbs, promoting healthy immune response and improving digestive function so that the body is well oxygenated and well nourished. The mind is a powerful thing, and our thought and intent are as potent as any medicine.

Inflammation within the body is a corrosive force that wreaks havoc on our nerves, joints, arteries and veins. It is created through stress, and through diets high in sugar, acid and processed foods. It is exacerbated by lack of sleep, lack of sunlight, lack of or too much exercise, dehydration, smoking and exposure to toxins. Inflammation within the body leads to other problems over time, such as weakened immune systems, auto-immune diseases, diabetes, hormonal imbalances, chronic fatigue, adrenal burnout, arthritis and cancer. It is like rust that eats away at our pipes and structural supports.

Simple ways to reduce inflammation in your body include:

  • supporting your liver, and detoxing where necessary
  • removing foods that create inflammation
  • eating a diet rich in fresh vegetables
  • drinking more water
  • cutting out sugar, caffeine and artificial sweeteners
  • getting plenty of rest
  • spending time in the sun
  • reducing stress
  • meditating
  • using exercise that promotes flow, such as yoga or tai chi
  • eating healthy fats and avoiding trans-fats
  • doing things that make you happy and that relax you

Guided Meditation

I’ve recorded the following meditation to help guide you through a process of reducing inflammation and promoting healing within your body.  It’s around 15 minutes long and all you need to do is close your eyes, and follow my words. (I get a bit choked up near the beginning, so forgive the momentary catch in my voice…)
