Peaks and Troughs

Life is just a series of peaks and troughs, and you don’t know whether you’re in a trough until you’re climbing out, or on a peak until you’re coming down. And that’s it you know, you never know what’s round the corner.

But it’s all good.

~ Ricky Gervais

Hey, Lovelies.

In chronic illness, as in all ways of travelling through life, it’s never a straight line. Some days you have more energy, some days you don’t. Some nights you sleep better, some nights you don’t.

After my epic day at the beach where I walked the whole length and touched the wall on Friday, yesterday I could only manage the smallest walk – no wall touching at all – and I needed to nap away the entire afternoon.

Am I worried about that?

No!

I’m trending up, lovelies. That means I can see steady slow improvement. I’ll still have downward slips, but my gains are increasing and I’m moving in the right direction.

I bet that’s how it is for you too, with whatever you are doing, and whatever you are working towards.

So, this week, be gentle with yourself if you find yourself on a slide, and don’t push yourself too hard when you have a full tank and find that your energy is abundant. Pushing too hard and overcommitting when you’re on top of the world is always a recipe for a big setback in the land of chronic fatigue – please, take it from one who knows.

If the rain holds off I’ll be going for another walk this morning, and I will let my body tell me how far I can go, rather than letting my head make an uninformed decision (because I have a habit of not listening to my body and pushing myself when I am tired).

I hope that in your week you are gently ‘trending upwards’ too.

Love, compassion and hugs, Nicole xoxo
