How to take a Blessings Bath

“The unthankful heart discovers no mercies; but the thankful heart will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings.”
~ Henry Ward Beecher

Today’s post is all about nurture. I want to share with you a process that I call a Blessings Bath.  I usually take a Blessings Bath when I am feeling anything but blessed; when I am truly exhausted, wretched, miserable and broken.  It has never failed to get me into a better space. And once you move into that better space you can sleep. You can heal.  You can go on…

This is a beautiful ritual – a mini-break you can treat yourself to whenever you need that extra love and care. It helps if you can gather your materials together beforehand and make the effort to create a space that is inviting and relaxing.

It’s best done at the end of the day, when you can move from your bathroom to the bedroom and enjoy a restful night’s sleep.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A bristle brush for dry skin brushing
  • A bath (if you don’t have a bath you can modify this by using a deep bucket or tub for a foot bath)
  • A shower
  • Your choice of bubble bath, bath salts, epsom salts and essential oils.  (An epsom salts bath is an excellent way to de-stress, get some magnesium into your frazzled system, and cleanse your aura as well as your body. If you’d like to lean more, click here).  At a minimum use the salts, but I must say that I love the comfort of some good bubbles too – invest in a good quality body wash or foam that is free of nasty chemicals. You’re worth it!
  • Your choice of crystals (optional, but good! – I’d recommend rose quartz, clear quartz, carnelian, hematite, howlite or blue quartz.  Use tumbled stones that you can place directly into the tub or bucket, and that are too big to get washed down the drain.)
  • Some soft fluffy towels
  • Candles, and something to light them with
  • Body oil or lotion (I use organic coconut oil ♥)
  • Relaxing music

Run your bath and add epsom salts, crystals, oils etc,  Make it tolerably hot if you are using epsom salts so that your pores open and you can detox from your lymph and uptake all that beneficial magnesium).  Turn on your music, softly, so that it is background music, and light your candles. (Please keep candles away from shower curtains and anything flammable.) Turn off the lights so that the room is dimly lit. If you live in a cold climate, make sure your room is warm!

Dry Skin Brushing:

Dry skin brushing stimulates our lymphatic system, helping us to detoxify and to improve our circulation.  It also removes dead skin cells and leaves our skin softer. Over time this beneficial practice can greatly aid your health and well-being, strengthening your immune system.  It’s also great for cellulite! As you brush, always direct your strokes from the extremities back towards your heart.

As you dry brush your body affirm to yourself I am ready to release. I am letting go.  Say it softly, over and over, as you brush.

Undress, then take your bristle brush and starting at the toes of your left foot use short smooth strokes to brush up to your knee.  Then work from your knee to your groin. Cover your whole leg using a soft but firm pressure.

Now work from your fingertips on the left arm up to the armpit. Swap and do your right arm. After this do your back, using long sweeping movements to go from your shoulders down to the middle of your back.  Then brush from your buttocks back up to the middle of your back.

Finally brush the front of your body – from your shoulders towards your heart and then your belly in a clockwise direction. Avoid your face, but do include the back of your neck.

Bath:

Step into the bath. (If you’re using a foot bath sit down and place your feet in the bucket.)

Settle in and get comfortable. Then place your hands so that they are resting on your heart. Gently repeat the words Thank You on every out breath. Do this for as long as you stay in the bath.

These two little words will powerfully shift those negative emotions and energetic blocks within your body, opening you back up to peace and flow.

Fee yourself soften and relax. Don’t struggle with your feelings. Allow any trapped or suppressed emotions come to the surface, stay focused with your hands on your heart and keep saying thank you. If you need to cry, do so. But keep saying Thank You.

When you feel calm and centered, step out of the bath. Turn on the shower (pull the plug if you have a combined shower/bath so you don’t flood the room) and rinse off the last of the bath water, feeling it running down the drain. Keep affirming the words Thank You, aloud or to yourself.

Finish with a short burst of cold water – about thirty seconds is fine.  This is fantastic for your circulation and immune system.

Towel yourself dry.

Oiling the Body:

Now that we have detoxed and cleansed our body we are going to nurture and love it some more. Take your oil or body lotion, and starting with your face, neck and ears gently rub the oil into your skin. As you do this say Thank You on every out breath. Really feel yourself connecting with and nurturing your body. Thank your body from your heart. Allow yourself to feel love and gratitude for your life.

Continue to apply oil, doing each arm and then your front, back and legs.  Pay attention to your fingers, toes and the soles of your feet.  Make sure every inch of your body is pampered and cared for.

Use a towel again to blot any excess oil, and then dress in something loose and comfortable.

Retire to your bedroom or somewhere else quiet and private.  Lie down or sit in a comfortable chair and rest or drift off to sleep.

I hope you find comfort and nurture in this ritual. Bless ♥ xx

Burning the Past – A Ritual for Cleansing Pain

Image from www.fanpop.com

A friend of mine has gone through some hard times recently, and now that they are behind her she asked me if I had a ritual to help her let go of that painful period in her life.

I love the use of rituals in our lives.  Rituals cause us to take pause, giving weight to things that are significant for us. They help our brain focus and pay attention, and they help us orient ourselves emotionally and spiritually.

Burning has long been used as a ritual of release, so today I’m going to show you a simple burning ritual for cleansing and releasing situations and relationships that have caused you pain.

Many years ago, after a particularly painful relationship breakup, my sister, a girlfriend and I went to the local park and had a ceremonial burning of old letters and photographs one afternoon. I used a great big cauldron from my kitchen and we sat around on the grass, sipping champagne and feeding paper into the fire.  The flames were green and blue from all of the chemicals in the photographs.  A little boy walked past with his mum and said exitedly, “Look Mum, real Witches.”  That made my day, although let’s be clear – I am no witch – it was just a very Macbeth moment!  On the downside, my cauldron was never the same again…

Burning Equipment – a large flame-proof pot or bowl, or an outdoor fireplace.  Matches. Long tongs.  Don’t use one of your good bowls or pots! Go to a second-hand store and find a big old saucepan or cauldron, or see if you have an old brass or metal bowl in the back of a cupboard.  You could also use a barbeque pit or a campfire, or a terracotta pot.  Be sensible about your burning. Burn outside, observing fire restrictions and keeping your fire away from anything that might catch alight.

Gathering Your Burning Fodder – Never burn in the heat of the moment!  A calm, thoughtful and considered burning is much more powerful and effective.  Begin by finding images, letters or other material related to the situation.  Don’t burn any legal documents.  Don’t burn anything out of spite.  All you are looking for is material that can REPRESENT what you wish to release.  For example, old photographs or letters, old newspaper clippings or advertising – anything that holds emotion for you and that you can afford to send up in flames.  If you have no images or material, then sit down and write a letter to the person or persons involved, or a summary of what has gone wrong and what you wish to let go of.

The Ritual

You can burn alone, or you can burn with friends or loved ones.  Choose what is appropriate to you.

Sit in front of your pot or burning space, hold the images/paper in your hands and just speak from the heart about what this represents to you and why you need to let this go.  Finish with the words I release you. I am done.

Then burn that stuff to ashes!  Feel the flames eating up and rendering that old energy into nothingness.  Let it all go.  That’s why we need to do this ritual outside, where the old energy can escape and be diffused on the wind.  You don’t ever want to do this ritual INSIDE your home – you want that old energy gone!

Honour any emotions that come up for you, but allow the ritual to give you a sense of finality.  When it’s cooled enough, dump your saucepan in the bin or keep it in the garage or garden at home for future burning needs. Celebrate the end of the Releasing Ritual with a beverage or some food – head out for a meal, or go home and have a cup of tea or a drink. Allow yourself reflection time, to recognise that you have closed the door on that part of your life.

In burning the past, you leave yourself free to claim a brighter future.

Blue Moon Healing Ceremony

Image from davidreneke.com

2012 is a powerful time for clearing, healing and accelerated growth.  It also provides a unique opportunity to clear and heal our ancestral lines, allowing future generations to be free of accumulated of inherited limitations.  (This works even if you have no children of your own.)

One way we can work with this energy is to use ceremony on August 31st to coincide with the Blue Moon, and again on September 1 to mark the first day of Spring or Fall, and the beginning of the waning moon’s energetic gifts to us.

I’ll discuss the Blue Moon Healing Ceremony today, and the Full Moon Becoming Ceremony tomorrow.

What You’ll Need:

  • A small tumbled crystal or stone to represent yourself
  • A small tumbled crystal or stone to represent your birth mother
  • A small tumbled crystal or stone to represent your birth father
  • If you have been raised by anyone else, and you consider this person a parent to you – such as through adoption, fostering or a parent’s remarriage or life partner, choose a stone or crystal to represent them too
  • A bowl made of anything but metal or plastic, large enough to hold your crystals so that they can be covered with water

What you need to do:

On August 31, allow yourself the gift of time for the energy of the Blue Moon.  Ideally set aside a minimum of fifteen minutes, but for those of you who enjoy meditation and reflection allow up to one hour.

If the weather permits, do this healing ceremony outside, once the moon has risen. Do not consume alcohol or recreational drugs prior to this process. If the weather or your situation doesn’t permit working outside, you can work beside a window that allows you to see the moon and feel her energy. Alternately, you can do the first part of the ceremony inside, and then take your crystals out into the moonlight, or place them on a window sill where they will be bathed in moonlight.

Fill your bowl with water, and place it where you will work.  Have your crystals ready too.

For Yourself:

Sit or stand quietly and raise your hands above your head.  Draw the light of the moon down around you like a cape, wrapping it around your body.  Then allow the light to fill you up, feeling your body becoming relaxed and peaceful.  Say:

I honour You, and I am grateful for everything.

Take the crystal that represents yourself.  Hold it in both hands.  Let all of the pain from your body, mind and spirit drain into the crystal.  You can also visualise specific situations or conditions that you wish to release.  Place them into the crystal too.  Say:

I offer up my pain.  I release all attachment to the notion of guilt, punishment and karma.  I forgive myself on all levels across all lifetimes.

When you are ready place the crystal into the bowl beside you.

For your Maternal Line:

Take the crystal that represents your biological mother.  Hold it in both hands.  Visualise her face, or feel an emotional and heart connection to her. Then through your mother, feel your connection into her parents, and their parents.  Let yourself feel that connection into your maternal ancestral line, as far back as feels right for you.  Let all of the pain from your body, mind and spirit drain into the crystal.  You can also visualise specific situations or conditions that you wish to release.  Place them into the crystal too.  Say:

On behalf of my maternal line, I offer up this pain.  I release all attachment to the notion of ancestral guilt, punishment and karma.  I forgive my ancestors on all levels across all lifetimes.

This process may bring up many powerful emotions for you.  Stay with them and place all of that energy into your crystal.  When you are ready place the crystal into the bowl beside you.

For your Paternal Line:

Take the crystal that represents your biological father.  Hold it in both hands.  Visualise his face, or feel an emotional and heart connection to him. Then through your father, feel your connection into his parents, and their parents.  Let yourself feel that connection into your paternal ancestral line, as far back as feels right for you.  Let all of the pain from your body, mind and spirit drain into the crystal.  You can also visualise specific situations or conditions that you wish to release.  Place them into the crystal too.  Say:

On behalf of my paternal line, I offer up this pain.  I release all attachment to the notion of ancestral guilt, punishment and karma.  I forgive my ancestors on all levels across all lifetimes.

This process may also bring up many powerful emotions for you.  Stay with them and place all of that energy into your crystal.  When you are ready place the crystal into the bowl beside you.

Repeat this process for any remaining crystals to heal the energies of other people’s lines who have become connected to yours.

To conclude:

Sit or stand quietly with your arms raised to the moon.  Allow yourself to release any remaining residual energies directly to her.  Let your body fill with light and the moon’s gentle energy.

Say these words:

Thank you, Sister Moon.  Thank you, Mother Earth.  Thank you, Father Sky.  I honour you and my connection to you, now and throughout time. I am ready to claim my Path.

Feel the many times you have walked upon this earth, with your feet on the ground; the sky with the moon and the clouds and the stars above you.

Leave the bowl with the crystals out in the moonlight, and then the sunlight so that they work with this energy for a full twenty-four hours.

24 hours after the placement of your crystals drain off the water and let it return to the Earth.  Leave your crystals on the ground, or in a potplant for a further 24 hours for them to recharge.

♥ Much Love to you, dear Lightworkers,

Healing the Heart Chakra

“Tears are words the heart can’t express” ~ Anon

“The soul would have no rainbow if the eyes had no tears”
Native American Saying

Often we look outside ourselves to find comfort, and to release and heal emotional and energetic blockages and traumas.  While there are many loving and qualified people available to help us, sometimes the most simple and intense healings we can have are ones that we conduct on our own behalf.  Today’s blog explores some simple techniques you can use to heal your own heart.

Activity:  Ritual for Healing The Heart Chakra

The most important ingredient here is Right Intent.  The purpose of Ritual is to focus your energy and concentration, and to put your Ego, conscious and unconscious Self on notice that this is important!

Read the ritual thoroughly to be clear about what you need to do, and what tools you may require so that you begin in an organised and calm state.  If you find the ritual helpful, please write and let me know.  I love and appreciate your feedback!

Purpose:  This simple healing ritual is for people who are blocked by fear, loneliness, grief and pain, and who have low self-worth and self-love.  The ritual gradually peels away layers of trapped and negative vibration, and allows a flood of healing light to rebalance and cleanse this chakra.  The treatment is gentle, and can be used over time to allow deeper and deeper levels of trauma to be easily released.  It can also be used for linear (this lifetime) and past life issues clouding your present direction and happiness.

Tools:  An unused white candle, a rose quartz and an amethyst crystal, some carrier oil (such as sweet almond oil) in a china or glass bowl, and a few drops of bergamot oil.

Method:  Leave yourself at least half an hour, and some quiet time afterwards for integration.  Place your candle and the bowl of oil with the two crystals on either side.  Quieten yourself, then light the candle and say the following,  “I release all fear.  I release all pain.  I am Joy.  I am Love.  I now embrace my Sacred Self.”  Sit quietly in front of the candle and close your eyes.  Visualise white Light surrounding your body and streaming into your heart. Feel the presence of a Higher Energy, God, Guides or Angels around you.  You may also want to offer up a Prayer for healing at this time.

When you are ready, take the oil, and rub it into the skin around your heart chakra in a circular anti-clockwise motion.  As you do this, breathe slowly and calmly and recite the following “I invite Love into my Heart.  I invite Love into my Life.  I am worthy and deserving of this Love.  Love is my nature.”  Say this as many times as feels right for you.  Feel your heart chakra gently softening, opening, and releasing the trapped energy.  Visualise Golden Light pouring into your Heart.  When you are finished, say a simple prayer of Thanks.  Sit or lie quietly and allow your body to become accustomed to its new, clearer vibration.

Journalling:

Write a ‘goodbye’ letter to someone from your past, or to a younger you. Say all the things you never said.  Pour your heart out onto the page.  Sign off with love.  Mean it. Let it be a good ending.

Write a ‘welcome’ letter to the love you wish to invite into your life, or the you that you wish to become.  Pour your dreams and desires out onto the page.  Sign off with love and a sense of happy expectation.  Let it be a new beginning.

Meditation:

This is a short (3 minute) meditation using sound, colour and sacred geometry to open and balance your heart chakra, bringing much healing. For those of you who are energetically sensitive or interested in psychic development, pay attention to any energetic sensations around your heart.  You may feel tingling, pulsing, buzzing or opening.  It may also open you to dreams and messages.  Enjoy.  ♥
