Grown-Ups Get To Choose!

“We are always told that anyone over the age of eighteen should know what they are doing. The fact is, they don’t.”
~ Rae Earl

One of the most important lessons I ever learned in life came from a trip to the corner store at the end of the street.

I was cooking dinner and realised I had run out of potatoes. Ben walked with me for the company and busied himself at the front counter while I rifled through the potato bin. He bought himself a bag of mixed lollies (candies), all counted out into a striped paper bag.

I paid for my two potatoes and then reached out for a sweet. ‘Hey,’ said Ben pulling the packet out of reach. ‘These are mine. If you want some, get your own!’ He was joking, but it made me realise something.

Lollies? I never bought lollies. I hadn’t bought a bag of sweets like that since I was a kid and my pa would give me fifty cents to buy some in the holidays. ‘Okay, I will!’ I said defiantly. It was wonderful to choose them, and on the way home I felt like a kid as I let myself eat a couple right before dinner – something my mum would never have allowed. By the time we got in the front door Ben’s bag was empty. I told him off for ruining his dinner.

‘Nic,’ he said, ‘I’m a grown-up. I can do what I want. I would have eaten them all before dinner or after dinner, but I ate them now because I felt like them and they were delicious. That’s the thing about being an adult. You get to choose.’

It might sound weird but that was a revelation for me. I’d grown up in a strict household, and I carried that strictness and all of those rules into my own independent life. But now there was no-one to tell me what to do. I could do what I wanted. I was an adult. I didn’t even have to eat my dinner if I didn’t want to. I could just eat my bag of lollies.

That freedom of being able to eat breakfast cereal for dinner, to not make your bed or to stay in pyjamas all day can be an awesome thing. But so often we only use that freedom adulthood bestows upon us to make childish or insignificant choices. The rest of the time we let life happen to us, or we make a choice once and think we can no longer make another. These July energies support change and I want you to understand that as an adult there are many other things you can use this superpower of choice on.

You can choose to give up smoking. You can choose to get a better job. You can choose to stay and work on a marriage with problems. You can choose to leave a bad relationship. You can choose to sell everything up and travel the world. If you’re stuck, if you’re unhappy, if something’s not working YOU CAN CHOOSE SOMETHING ELSE INSTEAD.

What will you choose in July?

Much love, Nicole xx

The Week Ahead – Oracle for Monday 22 January 2017

Destiny

“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Hello, Lovelies!

Here’s the oracle card I have chosen this Monday, and my take on the energetic outlook for the week ahead. I use any oracle or tarot cards shown as a prompt for channelled messages and my own intuitive wisdom, so my take is sometimes quite different to the meaning found in a book. ‘Destiny’ is from the Chakra Wisdom Oracle Deck by Tori Hartman.

If you read my forecast for January, you’ll remember that this is a month for seeing yourself and your life with fresh eyes – a month for stepping out of your old story and writing a new one for the years ahead, one that expands your possibilities and that brings you meaning and joy.

I love the message of this week’s card – Destiny shows so clearly the struggle within us as we look to what we want and then begin to doubt.

It’s not that we can’t see the possibilities for our life. We can! We can see how we might do something, create something, join something, be something.

We can even see how our lives might change if we commit to new habits, if we take action, if we do the thing. We want to believe in those possibilities for ourselves. We want to commit to them.

But…

What we also bring when we see these possibilities for ourselves is doubt. We find that we have a lack of confidence in ourselves and our abilities. A voice inside our head tells us we aren’t good enough. We don’t belong.

We begin looking for someone outside of ourselves to validate our decisions and choices. We begin to seek approval. We begin to seek opinions.

Before we know it we are swamped and overwhelmed. Our initial enthusiasm is dampened or gone, we are back in stuckness, we are defeated before we start.

Destiny reminds us that this is natural at the beginning of any journey. This doubt and fear and lack of confidence in ourselves is human. Most people feel it, including the people we see as successful and better than ourselves. They are just more practiced at hiding these feelings or overcoming them.

This week is a powerful week for meeting your indecision and lack of confidence head on. It’s a week that supports taking tangible steps towards change. It’s a week that encourages you to make decisions, to commit to a course of action, to back yourself and your plans and dreams.

It’s a glorious week for beginning to overcome lifelong patterns of ‘not good enough’.

Need help with that? Look no further than this year’s energetic forecast, and the wise advice and presence of the Prince of Disks, who advocates small steps daily towards our greater vision.

This week is also a beautiful week for planning the year ahead as we reflect on what has been, and where we want to go next.

The Week Ahead – Oracle Reading for Monday 31 October

the Creator Osho Zen Tarot

“Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least.”
~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Hello, Lovelies!

Welcome to a brand new week. 🙂

Here’s the oracle card I have chosen, and my take on the energetic outlook for the days ahead.

‘The Creator’ is from the Osho Zen Tarot deck – a deck I’ve been using for twenty years.

The week ahead is about refining our priorities and getting clear about what matters most right now. Understanding what matters most helps us to channel our precious and limited time and energy into activities and relationships that support the goals, values and outcomes dear to us.

Let me be clear:

This is not a week for stuffing around, doing everything for everyone else at the expense of yourself, wasting time on low-value tasks or low-value relationships, or failing to prioritise or make decisions.

There is so much power in this week if we are brave enough to make choices, to claim a direction, and to begin to take action in areas that matter to us.

Don’t waste the week by letting it roll by without you.

As you will read in tomorrow’s post, November is one of the best energies I’ve seen in years for going after what you want, for finding the idea that will make you money, for creating solid foundations for health, wealth, love, family and your particular passion. This week energetically sets you up to make the best of November by first getting clear about what matters now, and what will continue to matter into 2017.

It’s a week where you’re encouraged to make really bold decisions.

It’s a week where you’re asked to back yourself and your ideas and dreams.

It’s a fabulous week for finding a coach, launching an idea, starting or repackaging a business, signing up for study or specialised tuition, committing to taking your business to the next level, creating a plan to become more or to offer out into the world more that you do now.

It’s a week for taking back personal responsibility and holding yourself accountable for making change happen. Yep, that might feel odd if you haven’t sat in that space for a while, or if you’ve become used to letting everyone walk over you or take care of you. But ultimately to be able to trust yourself and your ability to look after your own needs will be empowering.

This is also a week for making a stand.

Ask for what you’re worth. Stand up for yourself, your loved ones, your passions, your rights. Give support to the causes dear to your heart.

Make that appointment with the doctor, bank manager, grief counsellor, relationship specialist, lawyer, tax accountant, psychologist, nutritionist.

Quit whatever is doing you harm. Alcohol, cigarettes, junk food, your jittery Red Bull habit, bad relationships, toxic situations, those two donuts you sneak with your coffee every morning and then regret all day. This week is fabulous for making lasting change that kicks off with a big personal decision.

This week is the beginning of a very big month, energetically speaking. The choices and actions you make this week (or fail to make) will have lasting repercussions. Do all you can to be good to yourself, and true to yourself and your values.

Supportive crystals this week? Clear Quartz, Amazonite and Citrine. Helpful essential oils? Young Living’s Clarity essential oil blend, or  a combination (or singly!) of any of Rosemary, Orange and Cedarwood.

Holding you in my thoughts, prayers and meditations,

All my love, Nicole <3 xx
