October Stones – A New Competition For You

Creativity takes courage ~ Henri Matisse

Hello Lovelies

Every day in October I am meditating with these two stones – stones that feel comfortable as I hold them in my hands, stones which are being infused with the energy of my love, intentions and meditations. At the end of October, I shall give them away to a reader, along with a personalised guided meditation made just for the winner.

Let me introduce you to these two stones. The first stone is basalt with seams of milk quartz and it holds the energies of the ocean and the earth. It is an anchoring stone, and it comes from Belongil Beach in Byron Bay, which is a place of great healing and transformation.

The energies and intention infused into the Byron Bay Beach Rock are that the holder comes to know a true sense of creative direction and that inspiration and imagination become gifts to lift you out of stuckness and back into flow.

This beach stone is the Anchoring Stone, which helps us to stay grounded, clear and calm, connecting into our bodies, and to the earth and nature. It’s a nurturing and comforting stone, and holding it brings me to a state of profound inner quiet.

The second is a Lemurian Singing Quartz, from the wilds of Tasmania. It’s a very strong energy stone with deep ridges along its sides that can be stroked during meditation. This activates the stone just the way you’d open a filing cabinet to access the files inside. Holding this stone makes me feel hopeful, positive and alive! The Quartz is the Connection Stone, enabling us to connect into our intuition, Higher Self, Guides, Ancestors and the Divine. My intention is that this Singing Quartz helps you to hear your inner voice and to access your creative gifts. It supports imagination, clear vision and passion for life.

Used together in meditation these stones will help you to find your inner creative energy, and remove blocks to self-expression and flow of ideas and art.

Instructions on how to win these stones:

Do one of any of the following;

  1. Write a comment on this post or our Facebook page, and let us know why you need creative energy and inspiration. Feel free to add a picture of your creative project or something that inspires you to be creative.
  2. Post a picture on Instagram of your creative project or something that inspires you to be creative with the hashtag #CandCProject  and in your description explain why you want to win these stones
  3. Send us an email to chelsi@cauldronsandcupcakes.com explaining why you want to win these stones
  4. Write a comment on this post telling us why you want to have these stones

This competition closes on October 31st at 8 pm Brisbane time, and I’ll announce the winner on November 2nd.

I’ll be giving away a set of stones every month between now and December, so there are plenty of chances for you to win.

Hugs and love, Nicole    xoxo

A Short But Important Message For You

2013-03-19-14-06-57

“One of the greatest regrets in life is being what others would want you to be, rather than being yourself.”
~ Shannon L. Alder

Every morning when I wake up I sit in meditation.

I say prayers for my family and friends, I send healing to those who need it, I send energy and love to my students, and then to the world.

After which I always think about you, dear readers, and I ask ‘What do my readers most need to know today?’ This usually helps me to write a blog post, or to prepare an activity or meditation.

Today when I asked, I got a very clear message. So clear that all I need do is record it here:

“Everyone on earth should believe that they have something to give the world which cannot otherwise be given.”

I know that this is true.

And I know that it’s a message some of you absolutely needed to be reminded of today.

So, go be you. Go be who you are and know that this is enough. To live as yourself. To act and think as yourself. To interact with others as yourself. To love as yourself. Your true self. You whole self.

Even if you have never been brave enough to be you until now.

Because it’s time.

I love you.

Go well today,

Nicole <3 xx

Journal Challenge Week 1 – Full Moon

“If you’re going to doubt something, doubt your limits.” ~ Don Ward

Welcome to Week One of our four week journaling challenge. There are some very favourable energies about right now to help us in connecting to our authentic selves, and from that place of truth we can then dream a new life, a new self, a new future into being.

This week we’ll be influenced by the Full Moon in Taurus. This beautiful moon is also known as the Earth Mother’s Moon. The Earth Mother Moon helps us to understand our life as an ecosystem, so that we can identify and give ourselves what we need to thrive in a balanced and sustainable way. It is a practical energy, a patient energy, and a kind energy. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

Because we’ll still be under the influence of the recent partial Solar Eclipse and the previous New Moon in Scorpio all this month, we need to work with these bigger energies too. The gift here is in seeking the truth, completing patterns from the past, and experiencing breakthroughs as we step into this new phase of our lives.

To do this we must be committed to becoming honest, vulnerable and exposed with ourselves. We must be brave enough to own our truth – not the one others ascribe to us, or the one we would like to choose for somewhere outside of ourselves – our truth just is, and we find it within our tender, wounded, doubting hearts.

This is a time for exploring and owning what has been repressed, forgotten or shoved to one side in our lives.

It’s a great time to facilitate a gathering awareness of our truth and a strengthening sense of wholeness for ourselves.

And wholeness gives us hope, strength, valor and inspiration.

Let’s Begin!

Choosing a Crystal

You may wish to choose a crystal to work with this week. It is entirely optional, and you’d be fine without one too – but for my fellow rock lovers, read on…

You can hold this crystal as you write or meditate, place it under your pillow or beside your bed while you sleep, or carry it in your pocket to help you stay focused.

You could choose your stone based on what most appeals to you. That’s a very valid approach. But if you need a little direction, good crystals to work with this week include:

  • Clear Quartz or Quartz with Inclusions or Phantoms
  • Aragonite
  • Carnelian
  • Bloodstone
  • Unakite
  • Tiger Eye
  • Petrified Wood
  • Smoky Quartz
  • Red Jasper

Here’s what I’ll be using – it’s a Tibetan Chlorite Phantom Quartz with window. Feel free to let us know what kind of crystal you choose by leaving a comment below or over at our facebook page.

Journal Dedication:

Begin the challenge by writing this dedication in the front of your journal, and then signing your name and date.

Dear Universe,

I yearn to create a life for myself that is richly fulfilling. I am open now to truly understanding what it is that I need in order to thrive, to grow, to shine.

I understand that I deserve to be happy, and I am prepared to sit in vulnerability and truth in order to clear the obstacles to my happiness.

I am ready to own the parts of myself that I have cast aside. I am ready to embrace my fullness, my wholeness, my true and complete soul truth.

I understand that I am destined for more – being more, loving more, sharing more, having more.

Although I am uncertain, although I still cannot name all the changes I desire, my heart is open to them if they be for my Highest Good.

Today I honour my desire and intention for positive change, and I offer it up to you, trusting that I will be guided to discover the next steps, that I will be drawn to inspiration and opportunity, and that I can create a life for myself which is more expansive, more aligned to my purpose, more in flow.

My commitment to you is that for the next 4 weeks (and beyond) I am willing to explore and open to the possibilities of change, and to celebrate the many Blessings I already enjoy.

With love and gratitude,

Week One Meditation:

We can’t think, or be in flow, if we are stressed and uptight. This week, before you begin to reflect on and journal your exploratory questions, take a minute or two to perform this simple meditation.

Belly Breathing Technique

Before you begin writing, sit or lie quietly. Place your crystal in one hand and then put that hand over your heart. Place your other hand on your belly.

Visualise a colour in your crystal, or if you are just using your hands, visualise a colour in the palm of your hand above your heart. Breathe in to activate your hands and let that colour expand, so that it links both of your hands. You’ll now have a glow of coloured energy sitting from your throat to your groin. That light is healing and energising. Don’t think about it too much. Just let it be there in the background. Close your eyes if it feels comfortable to do so.

Now take 6 deep breaths.

For each breath, when you inhale focus on your belly rising out further than your chest.

Take 6 long, slow and unforced breaths, gently allowing your hands to rise and fall with your chest and belly.

You’ll feel your body relax and unwind. You can stop after six breaths or do another cycle of six.

Now you’re ready to write!

Journal Questions:

You can choose any or all of the questions below. I suggest going with what resonates and repels for a good balance. Write as much or as little as you need. It could be three words or three pages. Spread it out over a week, or spend a solid hour or two over one day – it’s up to you! If you’re in flow, keep going and see where it takes you. Be ruthlessly honest. Be practical. No airy-fairy here please. We need tools we can work with.

If you’re using a crystal, hold it in your non-writing hand, or place it in your lap or pocket. Feel free to get yourself a beverage, or to sit in a coffee shop while you do this. Enjoy the process!

9f075be724fdb52e9cbaf54e87cc2472

Know that this journal work will provide a platform for future planning, growth and self-awareness. You’ll be coming back to these answers again in the future, so take your time and enjoy the process.

You can also write more in the future, taking yourself deeper and clearer each time you come back to that question. Trust that more will be revealed as your own wholeness is revealed.

If you don’t know how to answer something, ask yourself what am I resisting here? What can this teach me about myself? And then be brave and go deeper. Come back to that question again and again until you have clarity or at least a starting place for understanding or further action. If the question is impossible, seek help. A counselor, a healer, a trusted friend or adviser, or whomever else feels right to give you some guidance around this question.

  1. What does my physical body most need right now?
  2. How can I best ensure that my body can have these things it needs to thrive?
  3. Do I need to get help with my health, and what would that look like?
  4. What environments make me feel good?
  5. What helps me to have a restful night’s sleep? – How can I create more of that in my life?
  6. What movement and exercise does my body most need? How could I easily and realistically bring that into my life?
  7. What style of clothing helps me feel like my best and most authentic self?
  8. What self-care routines most nourish and heal me?
  9. What small things in my life that are a source of irritation can I deal with effectively now with just a small amount of effort or organisation?
  10. What big things in my life irritate or worry me, that I need to face up to and sort out or give to an expert to sort out on my behalf?
  11. What have I always believed about myself that is keeping me small?
  12. What have others told me about myself, or have made me conform to, which is limiting me and my happiness?
  13. Who is bad for me?
  14. Who would I benefit from seeing more of?
  15. Do I need more hugs and connection, or more personal space right now? How do I make this happen?
  16. What things have I stopped doing that used to make me happy?
  17. What things am I doing that make me unhappy or unbalanced right now?
  18. What am I stopping myself from doing?
I, Mother Earth by moonxels at deviantart

I, Mother Earth by moonxels at deviantart

And now for some dreaming and co-creating energy. Be informed by the writing you have done with your exploratory questions. Let yourself step into the energy of possibility and growth. Let yourself dream about how good life could be. Don’t limit yourself. This is about painting your canvas with the colours and energy that will shape a powerful positive future life. Write at least a paragraph. Be detailed and specific where you can.Truly imagine what your best life could be like. What do you look like? Where are you living? What does your day look like?

If you’re still not sure, then write it as a story, a fairy-tale that might one day come true. Don’t limit yourself. Be joyful in your creating! There are always the seeds of truth and possibility in dreams and imagination…

1. My desire and intention for my body and health that I am now creating is that…

2. My desire and intention for my love relationship that I am now creating (this could be with a life partner, yourself or even with God) is that…

3. My desire and intention for my lifestyle and work that I am now creating is that…

“We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibres connect us with our fellow men; and among those fibres, as sympathetic threads, our actions run as causes, and they come back to us as effects.”
~ Herman Melville

Have you ever found yourself in the right place at just the right time, even though it didn’t mean much to you in the moment?

A few weeks ago my husband needed to go into Lismore ( a small country town about half an hour’s drive away) to get some farm tools and supplies. Problem was, on my new medications I was really unwell, and Ben was worried about leaving me at home alone for so long on my own. Solution? I went with him.

We only had a few chores left when we stopped at a favourite bakery so Ben could get some lunch. I ordered a pot of peppermint tea, and we sat outside at a little table. My husband then left me there with my tea, and the friendly staff supervising me, while he walked a few stores up to get a tractor part.

While I sipped my tea a mother and daughter came and sat at the table beside me, and then the mum went inside to place their order.

I smiled at the daughter and said hello, and she glared ferociously at me.

I will admit to this – I was very unwell that day, and she scared me a little at that moment. I wondered if I should have smiled after all.

The young woman was dressed as a Goth. She had multiple piercings, a severe blue-black bob, a white powdered face with heavy black eye makeup and artful black and grey lips. Her clothes were dark, with lots of layered jewellery and dark images. She was plump, awkward and uncomfortable in her skin. Even with her confronting glare and the hostility she radiated, I found her quite beautiful. It was a beauty of which she was totally unaware.

Amidst the tradies, farmers and office workers the young woman looked completely out of place, and everyone stared at her. Judged her. She spent most of her time with her head down, using her long hair as a shield between her and the world.

It was the lips that did it. They were so carefully drawn. When she turned her head away I stole another glance. Her entire ensemble down to her scary platform boots with the big spikes, was thoughtfully chosen and stylish. So much care had gone into that outfit.

She snarled a smart retort at a spotty youth who made a rude comment to her, and suddenly I was reminded of my dog Bert, who sports a big spiked red collar and who acts and looks so tough when we are out in public to hide his complete terror of the world, but who is a complete pussycat underneath that tough exterior.

I realised that the young woman’s snarl and glare were her defense mechanisms. This Goth Girl was the most stylish person I had seen in Lismore all day. I could see the fragility under the fierce make-up, the piercings, the boots more suited to a Klingon warrior.

I couldn’t help but listen as she talked over lunch with her mum. She was well spoken, funny and thoughtful. But I could also feel how tentative she was. How nervous and unsure. My heart melted. The more I thought about it, the more I felt that she just needed some encouragement. My intuition was that she had been very brave in coming here for lunch, although I had no idea why. In my sick and miserable state I certainly wasn’t in work mode, and didn’t even think to try.

I felt compelled to say something to this girl. But I had no idea how to do that. And I was feeling so fragile myself. I wasn’t up for any kind of upset or confrontation.

As they were getting into their car I knew it was my last chance. I hobbled over and tapped on her window. The glass slid down and she jutted her jaw at me, scowling.

“Excuse me,” I said, feeling a bit stupid but determined to say something. “I just had to tell you that I think you’d win the award for the most stylishly dressed person in Lismore today. You really rock that look.” I meant it sincerely, and I smiled at her again, and walked back to my table, heart thumping in my chest. The girl reminded me of someone, but in my addled state I just couldn’t think who.

A few minutes later Ben returned. We drove to the other side of town, made a few more stops and then finally went to Bunnings, where Ben left me in the car while he went inside to get the last things on his list.

A tentative knock on my window startled me as I sat there, half-asleep. It was the mother from the bakery. I rolled down my window. The woman couldn’t believe that she’d run into me in the Bunnings carpark. She couldn’t stop thanking me. Her daughter’s name was Lisa, and apparently my comment to Lisa had been just what she’d needed to hear.

The mother’s face became fraught with worry. After enduring ongoing bullying at a college in the city, Lisa had suffered a complete breakdown. That very day the mother had picked up Lisa from a mental health unit, where she’d been a residential patient for some months.

Lisa’s counsellor had told the mother that it was probably time for her daughter to change her image to something less confronting. It was the one thing Lisa had not been prepared to do in her ongoing support sessions. In defiance of the advice, Lisa had carefully and bravely made herself up in her usual choice of fashion for her entry back into the world.

My comment had apparently made Lisa’s day, and helped her to feel more confident about herself and her style.

What had Lisa been studying? I asked.

Beauty and hairdressing, the mum said. We talked for a few minutes more and exchanged telephone numbers.

I didn’t give the incident much more thought until I was speaking with a client last week. She runs a successful city hairdressing salon, and she’d been having trouble finding a suitable apprentice. Bingo. She was the one I’d been trying to think of when I’d met Lisa. My client is heavily tattooed, favours a Goth look herself, and is one of the most intelligent and sweet-natured women I know. I told her about Lisa, the young woman I’d met outside the bakery. A few phone calls were made. Magic happened. One talented young woman has now been taken under the wing of an equally talented mentor. Wins all round.

There is a synchronicity and magic in this Universe, and it often finds a way to work through us, so that we become a part of that flow of goodness.

I very much trust in that. Don’t you?

Everyone has something special to share with the world!

What we are is God’s gift to us. What we become is our gift to God. ~ Eleanor Powell

I have never met anyone who wasn’t unique in some way, who didn’t have a special gift to share with the world. The problem is that most people don’t acknowledge their gifts because they are always the things that come naturally and easily, even if we get better at them with practice.

We live in a society that crazily seems to prize two things above all others: hard work to get somewhere, or money for nothing.

I’m not talking about either of those.

I’m talking about the essence of your soul, the thing you ARE. And we catch glimpses of it from the moment of our birth.

I’ll give you some examples, and maybe you’ll start to understand what I mean…

My Grandmother had a gift for listening. When you spoke with her you knew she truly heard you, and acknowledged what you were saying and feeling. She was trustworthy and wise, and she helped many people through this gift. She never had a job or a career, and yet she touched the lives of many.

I have a client who has never been educated.  He can’t read or write, can barely sign his name. He has lived in the Outback his entire life. But he can break any horse.  He can turn any wild brumby into a horse that can be ridden and worked with, and he does it gently, without breaking their spirit.  No-one ever showed him.  He just seems to know how to communicate with them and win their trust.

I have a friend who is a nurse. I’ve know her for many years. She’s a talented nurse, and studied hard to get there, but her real gift? She has a knack for comforting people.

Ask anyone who’s known her and they’ll tell you the same.  She’s been like that since she was small. Animals, people, upset children, she just seems to know what to say, how to move, and her touch is filled with love and kindness.  Her voice is soothing and reassuring, or cheerful when it needs to be.

It’s not just her ability to do her job, it’s the essence she brings to that job that is so important.

Don’t ever think that you have nothing worthy to offer the world.  You came here with a gift inside you, perhaps even more than one.  That might not be a gift that will bring you great fame and riches, or public acclaim.

But for someone in your life, your gift will mean the world.

Not sure what your gift is?  Look back through your life.  What came easily?  What was a natural expression of who you are?  What have you done or been where you know you uplifted, or connected, or helped in some way?

You may have discounted this thing as ordinary or unimportant.  But I promise you, it’s not. And all you ever have to be is yourself!

You are precious, and valuable, and important to the richness and texture of life.

Kermit says it better than anyone…

Speaking your Truth – tips for the Throat Chakra

Only one thing is more frightening than speaking your truth, and that is not speaking it. – Naomi Wolf

We often talk about speaking our truth, but how many people even understand what that means?  Our truth is that wise part of us that knows who we are, what we need, and what we believe in.  It is a personal truth – it differs between individuals, and it often changes over time.  What matters most is that we acknowledge this truth, and honour it by being able to voice our ideas, opinions, needs and wants.

If you have trouble asking for help, if you say no when you mean yes and yes when you mean no, if you find it hard to say what you really feel or think for fear of upsetting or offending others, if you worry about being judged or ridiculed for your opinions, or if your voice deserts you altogether when you’re called upon to speak up, it’s time to work on speaking your truth, and we can help do that by balancing and opening the Throat Chakra, an energy centre located near the base of the neck.  If you put your hand to your throat you’ll automatically gravitate to it.

The Throat Chakra is all about communication – voicing our inner truth, expressing ourselves and our creativity, speaking up about our personal intentions, desires, needs and ideas.  The colour of this chakra is blue.

The Throat Chakra governs the throat, mouth, gums, teeth, thyroid, neck, shoulders, arms and hands – we can hold a lot of tension here from not speaking and honouring our truth. We can bite down or even choke on all of our unexpressed thoughts and emotions. Do a little check of these areas.  Is there any tension, constriction or pain?  Yoga can help enormously with freeing up the energy here. (See the youtube clip below)

When our Throat Chakra is open and balanced we are excellent communicators – with good listening skills, strong non-verbal communications and a clear speaking voice. We speak our truth – we hear, acknowledge and express that inner voice.  We will also have access to our intuition and, for some people, the ability to connect into telepathic and channeling abilities. (Stay tuned to my website for information on courses to help develop intuitive and psychic skills – I’ll be uploading new dates this week.)

If the Throat Chakra is closed down or unbalanced we can suffer anxiety, frustration, low
immunity, poor or no boundaries, and an inability to ask for help or have our needs met.

Speaking up for yourself takes courage

This may be expressed outwardly as anger, criticism or judgment.  It may be expressed inwardly as fatigue, overeating and other addictions, self abuse in many forms, and not saying what we mean or feel for risk of hurting, angering, upsetting or offending others.

We might do too much talking and not enough listening, we can’t be told, we are nervous talkers, we fill the silences with words, we talk but don’t do enough doing or acting, we disclose too much, we have a lack of discernment in sharing information, we overcommit and overpromise, we ‘spin’ to make people feel good.  We swallow down our feelings and truths and they get lodged in the lower chakras, causing further blockages and lack of flow.

5 steps to help us find and speak our truth:

  1. Journalling is a terrific way to explore our thoughts and beliefs, both the conscious and the unconscious ones.  Listen to the guided meditation in Step 5 and then write in your journal, allowing yourself to just write stream of consciousness.
  2. Take small steps – say no without justifying your answer to something minor that you don’t want (or yes, to something small that you do),  eg – ‘no more for me, thanks’ when a friend tries to get you to eat an extra helping and you would have done it just to be polite, or ‘yes please’ when you are offered the last piece of something when you would normally have declined, even though you wanted it.
  3. Bee Breath Meditation (We’ll cover this tomorrow!)  A great activity for freeing up the energy of the Throat Chakra.
  4. Singing – it doesn’t matter how or even what you sing.  Just use your voice, and do it with expression, energy and joy. Or anger or any other emotion you need to get ‘out’.  Your words don’t have to match the music. If you really struggle to speak your truth and find this very confronting, start with the youtube clip below.  It’s a kids’ song, with lots of movements that free up and energise the throat chakra area.  Sing along and do the actions, even if you feel silly. Then have a big drink of water afterwards.  Brilliant!
  5. Guided meditation – I’ve recorded a simple ten-minute guided meditation to help you work with the energy of your throat chakra.  Listen by clicking on the link below.
