It’s Okay To Choose For Yourself

Hello, Lovelies.

Today I have a favour to ask of you. Today I’d like you to choose for yourself.

You might think that’s an odd request. You might also think it doesn’t apply to you. But if you are in love, empathic, sensitive, a parent, a partner, a people-pleaser or a soother of others I think it does.

You see, so many of us (myself included), will make choices in life with another person in mind. Your sweetheart loves the apple pastry so you take the lemon one. Your friends love sci-fi so you go see the latest movie with them even though it’s a genre you’re not fussed about. Your partner doesn’t eat seafood so you just don’t cook that anymore. When a family member offers to make dinner for you, you ask for spaghetti because that’s the kids’ favourite. You make choices that make others happy. And it’s not a drag for you, honestly. You don’t mind the lemon pastry. It’s good just to hang with your friends. Chicken’s as tasty as fish. It’s just nice to have someone else cook. No biggie, right?

Still. what if you constantly make small choices – ones that don’t really matter to you – that suit the preferences of other people over your own?

It might seem inconsequential but it soon stacks up. How many decisions and choices will you make in a day that completely negate what you might want? What message does that send to the Universe?

Each time you put the well-being and happiness of someone else over your own you are asserting to the Universe that they matter more than you, that their happiness and positive life experience matters more than your own. And even though you may start out being happy to have made someone else happy that joy will eventually wear off if your own needs never get any airplay. What’s worse, you train the people around you that these decisions you make are okay for you, or even great for you. So how will they ever know what you really want? How will they ever know you’d have preferred an apple pastry too? Trust me, this is the kind of behaviour that eventually breeds simmering resentment and misery where the only person who’ll be suffering is you.

So, just for today, I’m asking you to choose for yourself. Choose the cooking show over the football. Choose to hang out at the art gallery while everyone else goes to the museum. Eat pasta when the gang has burgers. Choose what you really wanted to say yes to, even if that means you go on your own or eat on your own.

That’s okay. Your life is valuable too. Your choices and happiness matter too. This is your one shot at this precious life. Don’t waste it by never giving yourself the chance to experience all the longings of your heart.

Advice for Emerging Sensitive and Psychic Souls

Hello, Lovelies!
If you’re sensitive energetically then you are bound to be sensitive in other areas of your life.  This is especially true if you are going through a process of spiritual or psychic awakening. At a time of awakening, energies and abilities that have been dormant within you begin to assert themselves in your life.  This can be quite a turbulent and confusing time.

With the year’s current astrological events many sensitive souls are going though a period of spiritual or psychic awakening.

The following tips will help you to adjust to these emerging energies and gifts over the weeks and months ahead:

  • Rest.  When you’re growing and changing, rest is one of the best gifts you can give yourself.
  • Avoid crowded places such as shopping centres and football games when you are feeling particularly sensitive or energetically vulnerable.
  • Avoid difficult relationships and people who drain, upset or unbalance you.  Limit contact with the crazy-makers in your life.
  • If fluorescent and other artificial light sources bother you counteract them by spending time in daylight or moonlight.
  • Eat well.  Favour organic foods, with an emphasis on fresh, local produce, with plenty of leafy green vegetables and root vegetables, rice, pulses and yoghurt. Avoid processed food and sugar. Some people may need to avoid meat at this time.  Others may need meat to ground them.  Listen to your body.  If you’re especially sensitive avoid wheat as well.
  • Avoid alcohol, drugs and stimulants. Really be honest with yourself about substances like coffee and how they may affect you. Cut down or avoid if necessary.
  • Take a good powdered magnesium supplement.  Your muscles and nervous system use magnesium to relax and the body burns it like rocket fuel when you are engaging in energy work and psychic activity.
  • Drink plenty of fresh, clean water.
  • Use yoga, qi gung or tai chi to ground you and move energy through your body.
  • Spend time in nature.
  • Spend time on your own, exploring the things that interest you.
  • Spend time journalling and in self-exploration using tools such as crystals or cards if that feels right for you.
  • Avoid chemicals in your cleaning and personal care products. Avoid places that have a strong artificial or chemical energy.
  • Use natural and alternate therapies to help clear and support your body.
  • Meditate.
  • Pray, and talk with God.
  • Explore vibrational therapies such as essential oils, bush or bach flower essences, crystals, music, colour and aromatherapy.
  • Trust, look for support and know that things do get easier over time.

I just wanted to send a little reassurance your way this morning. You see, my inbox is overflowing with panicked messages from people who are suddenly exhausted, smashed, so stupidly tired that they can hardly function. For no apparent reason…

Have you checked out that big moon above us?

It’s super close right now (cos, Supermoon!) and we’ve also just had a very big lunar eclipse.

Add to that some extreme weather and the fact that most of my readers are sensitives, empaths, intuitives and psychics. It’s your nature to be affected by the energies around you, and the energies around you right now are HUGE. Also, you’re composed largely of water, which is the very thing over which the moon exerts her powers.

So it’s only natural that you’re suddenly tired.

It’s okay. It will pass. Right now rest and stay well hydrated. Use this quiet time for sleep, journalling, meditation and soulful connection. Expect insights and answers. Expect clarity and direction.

Embrace your sensitivity. See it as a strength rather than a weakness. Explore this energetic connection and the feelings it brings up for you.

Are you having a rough time of it right now?  Are you swinging between feeling positive, energised and clear-headed and demotivated, depressed and barely able to get up off the couch?

Many of the sensitive souls I know are experiencing these big swings, or at least having unexplained moments of just feeling emotionally ‘off’.  There is little of the enthusiasm we usually feel at the beginning of a new year.

But take heart, my sensitive friends. We aren’t done with 2012 yet, and that’s what you’re processing through your own bodies – the slow death of the old way of being, and the strained beginnings of new life. Birth and death always heighten the senses, and lots of what you’re feeling is internal processing of external energies.  In other words, it’s not you, and your sensitivity is actually being utilised to help clear residual energy patterns and anchor new ones.

And sweetheart, that’s part of what you signed up for! So thank you. 🙂

Here’s my First Aid Kit of suggestions to help you get through the next few weeks:

  • Get outside and get your bare feet on the ground. Grounding ourselves into the earth helps immensely.  Not sure how to ground, or even what it means?   Take the crash course here:  Staying Grounded in Uncertain Times
  • Stay hydrated with plenty of good clean water.  Avoid stimulants like caffeine, Red Bull and other energy drinks. Limit your alcohol intake.
  • Eat lightly, and choose foods that are fresh, seasonal and as unprocessed as possible.  Avoid sugar and junk food.  Fresh fruit and vegetable juices are always good choices.  Think GREEN.
  • Limit exposure to crowds and to toxic environments and people – you have enough to deal with right now.  Why add to your burden?
  • Use crystals. If you’re feeling ungrounded, overwhelmed or unsafe I recommend Black Tourmaline.  If you’re processing anger and other unpleasant lower vibration emotions use Carnelian or Hematite.  If your health is suffering and you feel the need to physically detox or re-energise a nice piece of Bloodstone or Mookaite.  For love and support a Rose Quartz will do nicely. I don’t recommend Smoky Quartz, Clear Quartz or Amethyst at this time – you don’t want to shield yourself, you just want help to process, let go, and be supported in doing so.   • PS *If it gets all too much, and you’re at the end of your tether go with Smoky Quartz!
  • Epsom Salts Baths are a fantastic emergency procedure. They cleanse the aura, and deliver a strong dose of magnesium to your body, to help soothe a frazzled nervous system and relax all your weary muscles.

Transit of Venus, Solar Flares, Polar Shifts, Eclipses and Sensitive People

So, you’re a sensitive soul?  If you’re not sure, you can read more about ‘sensitive’ people here, to see if you identify with any of the common characteristics:

Living as a Sensitive Soul

One thing that sensitive souls will be noticing right now is how all of this astrological shift and change can affect us. What makes us sensitive – that ability to feel and sense energies and information that might not be so readily apparent to others – is also the thing that can make us more vulnerable to astrological and energetic phenomena.  We are more influenced by the energetic shifts and changes, and can be affected in a number of ways, not all of them pleasant.

We may experience a sudden draining of our energy, feel heavy and fatigued, or ache as though we are coming down with the flu.  We may find that we feel depressed or anxious for no reason, or that our sleep patterns are disrupted.  We may feel unbalanced, not quite in our body, suffer from headaches or fuzzy thinking, or be irrational, teary, angry or upset – once again with no apparent cause.  We may become highly over-sensitive – to foods, people, weather, noise and light.

It will always pass.  But when you feel this way, check things out.  Is there something happening with the planets or sun? Are we experiencing geological shifts within our own planet? Are you in close proximity to a lot of electromagnetic energy?

What to do when you’re affected:

If you’re feeling light, vague, airy, disconnected, anxious, fretful or scattered then do what you can to ground:

  • favour foods that are dense; such as grains, root vegetables, dairy, meat and eggs
  • eat larger portions, less often (no less than three meals a day though!)
  • take a powdered magnesium supplement
  • avoid sugar and stimulants such as caffeine
  • spend time in nature – sit, stand or lie on the ground, barefoot if possible
  • rest
  • avoid crowds, wind, lots of noise, and places that are busy or frenzied
  • choose and wear or hold grounding crystals such as jasper, garnet, hematite, pyrite, howlite, bloodstone, sodalite, dessert rose, tourmaline, tiger eye or tiger iron

If you’re feeling exhausted, angry, disoriented, achy, drained, depressed and flat you need to raise your vibration.  Things that help with this include:

  • eating a predominantly plant based diet, and eating lightly and often
  • consume fresh juices that favour a combination of fruits and vegetables (at room temperature)
  • get moving – some yoga, tai chi, qigung or walking will help
  • rest
  • drink plenty of water and herbal teas
  • take a powdered magnesium supplement
  • keep warm, or find ways to generate warmth within your body
  • avoid cold foods, including ice-cream, dairy and cold milks such as soy
  • avoid the news, and things/people/places that are likely to upset or depress you
  • favour crystals that uplift our energy, such as rose quartz, amethyst, smoky quartz, clear quartz, citrine, agates, jade, aventurine, fluorite, carnelian and amber
