The Week Ahead – Oracle Reading for Monday 28 November

“May what I do flow from me like a river, no forcing and no holding back, the way it is with children.”
~ Rainer Maria Rilke

Hello, Friends!

Welcome to the final days of these fabulous November energies.

Here’s the oracle card I have chosen, and my take on the energetic outlook for the week ahead.

‘Totality’ is from the Osho Zen Tarot deck, and it heralds  a week of flow, good timing and helpful people.

It’s a week where you need to act on intuition. Trust your reflexes. Go with your gut. Know that the first thought will be the right thought.

It’s a week that favours completion of tasks. You’ll find that it’s the kind of week where you can get the impossible done. All it requires of you is focus and commitment. This is not a week to be wishy-washy.

This is a week where the pieces will start to come together for you.

It’s a week where you’ll get more done if you work with a team.

It’s a week where your unwavering commitment to a goal or a dream will see you making progress or experiencing breakthroughs beyond what you conceived as possible.

Within this week’s pattern of advancement and completion we will leave some things behind. Or they will bid us adieu.

That’s okay.

Everything has its season.

Be gracious about these endings. Don’t try to hold on to things that have finished their cycle. Many relationships, situations and patterns of behaviour will come to an end in the lead-up to 2017. It’s their time.

Stay in flow. Be open to what comes next. Be open to the possibilities that this positive change will bring for you.

This week the energies of change will make it hard for you to delude yourself about your true feelings. Situations and solutions will become clear. You’ll feel compelled to do something.

Trust.

Act.

Stay in flow.

It’s a big week for commitment. Saying ‘Yes’. Saying ‘I love you’. Saying ‘Let’s do this!’.

Be brave and jump in!

You’ll feel a return to energy this week. You’ll bounce back stronger. You’ll be able to look the world in the eye and say ‘I’m going places. Come with me or get out of my way.’

Flow with it – whatever it is. Give yourself to the task, the idea, the project, the relationship.

Commit, commit, commit.

You’ll amaze yourself with what changes and gets done!

Supportive crystals this week? Fluorite, Amazonite, Citrine and Tiger Eye.  Helpful essential oils? Young Living’s Clarity essential oil blend, or  a combination (or singly!) of any of cedarwood, lemon, ylang ylang and bergamot.

Wishing you a wonderful week and holding you, as always, in my thoughts, prayers and meditations. I can’t wait to see where this week takes you.

The Art of Surrender

Image from Lucie Chen

Image from Lucie Chen

“Always say “yes” to the present moment. What could be more futile, more insane, than to create inner resistance to what already is? what could be more insane than to oppose life itself, which is now and always now? Surrender to what is. Say ‘yes’ to life and see how life suddenly starts working for you rather than against you.”
~ Eckhart Tolle

We’ve all surrendered before. To music, to love, to pleasure. It’s something we welcome – losing ourselves in the moment, merging ourselves with the emotion, the sensation, the grand scheme and the minutia. We give in, we let go, we surrender to the flow.

But what about when life isn’t going so well?

How often do we fight against where we are at?

How often do we resist the space we find ourselves in?

No. I will not be sick. NO. I will not be upset.  I will not be helpless. I will not be weary. I will not be uncertain or directionless. I will not be devoid of inspiration. I will not be apathetic or depressed, exhausted or miserable. No. NO. NO!

Immerse by J Derek Howard

Immerse by J Derek Howard

Oh, sweetheart. You are where you are…

Stop fighting.

Because life, you see, is what it is. You are where you are.

Why resist the truth of this moment? Why keep swimming upstream?

You are where you are.

Surrender to what is. Surrendering is not condoning this space. It is not you saying to the Universe YES, I WANT THIS AWFUL PAIN. I WANT THIS FAILURE. Or even, I DESERVE THIS TERRIBLE THING.

Surrender is simply letting go.

Right now I am sick. Right now I am hurting. Right now I am lonely. Right now things aren’t going so well…

Drop back into that river. Let the river carry you.

And it will.

When you stop fighting and let go, it becomes easier. The river carries you. You can merge with the fullness of the moment. You own the feelings. You own the truth of what is.

As you stop the struggle, be it an emotional, physical or spiritual one, you may find that you sink like a stone. Don’t panic. Haven’t you ever sunk deep into love? Didn’t you do that with reckless abandon?

At the bottom of the river it’s so quiet and still. There’s room for your frightened soul to expand again.

And as you do, you’ll rise up. Soon you’ll be floating, and the current will take you.

One morning you’ll find yourself washed up on a new shore, bathed in sunlight, caressed by a gentle breeze scented with the sweet fragrance of new possibilities.

Stop fighting.

Let go.

Surrender to what is.

And know that you are beautiful, magnificent, courageous, loved…

Create Positive Change Program – Week 6

“When a person really desires something, all the universe conspires to help that person to realize his dream.”~ Paulo Coelho

2013 and 2014 are years for inviting and creating powerful positive change in our lives. And knowing that, there’s a decision to be made…

Do I actively seek change and open myself to these energies, or do I remain closed and passively let life keep happening to me?

If you’re working through this program, you’ve already made that decision. YOU are aligning yourself with these energies and you WILL invoke and create change.

When we recognize our desire for a new way of being, and we begin to work with and practice that commitment out in the world, it’s amazing how the Universe musters to our aid. We live in a complex interconnected energetic system, and our thinking and actions magnetize us to attracting more of whatever it is that we are thinking about and focusing on.

This week we’re going to make deliberate use of that assistance by putting our attention on who can help us, and what tools we already have, or might to add to our toolkit!

Count Your Blessings!

Your Blessings Book should be filling up nicely by now. Are you noticing any themes, any particular people, places or things that regularly give you pleasure and joy? What’s recharging you and filling your soul with gratitude?

Recording the small and simple blessings and the incredible moments in our day reminds us of the positive energy already present in our lives.  As we focus on this positive feel-good energy, we attract more of these moments and blessings into our lives.

Once again, this week write down three blessings in your life every day – three simple things for which you are grateful. Counting our blessings puts us into a more receptive and abundant state of mind.

Write them like this: Today I am thankful for (the blessing) because (write down a simple reason). eg: Today I am grateful for soft green grass beneath my feet, because I live in a lush and vibrant place and walking on the earth makes me feel grounded and nurtured.

AnExtrarodinaryDay.net-Birches-in-the-woods-John-Muir-quote-about-Nature

Affirm the Positive!

Take your rock from Week Five and thank it. Write the Affirmation you used in your Blessings Book. You can now place the fifth rock beside your bed or somewhere where you’ll see it often.

Select the sixth rock from the eight you selected at the start of this course. This is your sixth Affirmation Stone. Carry it around with you, or place it somewhere where you can see and hold it every day.

Hold this sixth stone in your hands. Now think of something else in your life that you want to change. This week we’re focusing on what we want to ATTRACT. Affirm that as a statement of declaration to the Universe.

Be bold and creative with this. It doesn’t matter how big or small your desire for attraction is.

State it like this: I now attract ______.

But…

Yeah, you knew there’d be a but!

And here it is: When you affirm this declaration, you must be able to feel in your heart that it is possible so that you connect with the integrity and possibility of the statement. If you can do that, you’ll be creating powerful magic. But if you can’t you’ll actually be making yourself anti-magnetic to that thing!

Let me show you a simple way to see if you’re on track with this week’s affirmation:

Lets just suppose that your desire is to create more money in your life. So your first affirmation is

I now attract a massive Gold Lotto Win.

Image from news.com.au

Image from news.com.au

Say that affirmation out loud and then immediately tune in to your heart. What’s going on there? Can you truly visualise that happening? Can that statement be real for you? If that voice inside you is saying, ‘Oh sure – like that’s ever going to happen!’, if you’re feeling wriggly and stupid and uncomfortable, or like an outright fraud? Well, they’re pretty clear indications that you are NOT aligned with this statement and you’re out of integrity with it. So the message you’re actually putting out into the Universe is more like this:

I am so unworthy of financial gain. I am comfortable with lack.

And you know what? The Universe always delivers…

If money’s what you need, then find another way to express that which fits more comfortably with your current belief structure. Maybe something like this:

I now attract increased cash flow. Abundance comes to me in small and surprising ways.

This is one I’ve personally used, and it has served me well. Note the little modifier I put on the end of my affirmation. At the time I was so broke, so on struggle street that it seemed implausible and impossible for my fortunes to suddenly change. (even now I want to reach back in time and give that insecure low-self-esteem me a big hug!) Back then I could never see me winning lotto! But little extra bits of money and abundance? Yes, I could be comfortable with that.

Do you know what happened when I used that affirmation? I got an unexpected refund on an item, my phone company told me they’d overcharged me and gave me a credit towards my next bill, I found twenty dollars in a pants pocket, and then, most surprisingly of all, I found $800 in fifty dollar bills just blowing along a main road when I went for a walk one really early morning. When I rang to report it to the police, they told me to keep the money as ownership would be impossible to prove.

So, the big thing I want you to really understand here is the importance of choosing an affirmation that your heart feels ready for, excited about and in tune with!

Image from Decatur CD

Image from Decatur CD

Each day hold your affirmation stone in your hands and repeat the declaration, out loud, or in your mind. You can do this just once, or as many times as you like. Say your declaration with enthusiasm and commitment. Put lots of energy into the words I NOW ATTRACT. Feel yourself aligning to the vibration of this new energy in your life.

Get excited!

Using your Gratitude Rock

Each night this week work with the energy of this special stone. As you hold your stone tonight say to yourself I am richly Blessed. I have an Abundance of Good in my life.  Then hold in your mind one or more image of a thing you have been grateful for today.  It doesn’t matter if you review your Blessings from your Blessing Book, or add in something new.  Swell that positive energy up in your heart like a beautiful golden light, and give a heart-felt Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to the Universe. Visualise a tiny shower of golden light travelling from your heart into your Gratitude Rock.

Now imagine all of the other people who are taking part in this Positive Change Program with us – people from all over the world, just like you. Once again build up a strong positive energy in your heart, and then imagine shooting a stream of golden light out into the Universe to those people. Each of us benefits for the love and support we share, and we grow stronger and more open and connected.

Say Thank you.  I Bless You.  I intend for you Positive Change, Love, Miracles and Abundance. Know that as you are saying this for them, they are also saying this for you. Feel that connection and gratitude and know that there is real love and support for you here. Place your rock back beside your bed, and close your eyes, cocooned in this good energy. Know that you ARE making positive change in the world, and in your life, and helping others to do the same.

Homework:

Find half an hour in your week, sit down with your journal and get comfy.

Review the shortlist of changes you want to create that you wrote down last week.

Then ask yourself the following two questions for each point:

  1. Who can help me?
  2. What do I already have in my toolkit that I can start using now?

Who can help me? This could be a course, a coach, a mentor, a friend, your partner, an on-line forum or a book, just to name a few.

What do you already have in your toolkit? Maybe you’ve completed some study, or gained experience, or made a start. Perhaps you already have the camera, the computer, the fabric, the art material, the bare patch of garden, a relationship that can be built upon.

Start to appreciate what you have in your life to use as a starting point, and be aware of what else you need so that you can begin to draw those people and energies into your life.

When you begin to become an active participant in the change process, all sorts of breakthroughs and synchronicities begin to occur.

Wishing you a week of insights, connections and magic. Have courage and belief in yourself and your dreams. This change you desire is entirely possible, especially when you become a willing co-creator of your own destiny. Don’t put it off. Now is the time!

Lots of love, Nicole xx

Strengthening Intuition Week 7 – Tuning in to Energetic Preferences

Image from www.frankie.bz

“Learn to let your intuition—gut instinct—tell you when the food, the relationship, the job isn’t good for you (and conversely, when what you’re doing is just right).” ~ Oprah Winfrey

So far, in our Strengthening Intuition Program, we’ve learned how to activate our hand chakras, and how to use our hands to sense energy in objects, people, places and food.  Today we’re going to learn two different ways of tuning in to things to find out if they are good for us or not.

Method One:

This method is great when you’re shopping, or putting together a meal.  It involves tuning in with your hand chakras to physically ‘feel’ which item, crystal or food is best for you in that moment.

Image from www.indelibledibles.blogspot.com

Activate your hand chakras.  (If you need a refresher on how to do that, go here first and then over here.)

Clear your mind, and then focus on one thought:

What best serves my Highest Good?

While you hold this thought and intention in your mind, still your own thoughts and then run your hands over a selection of items.  The things that are good for you, and vibrationally aligned with your Highest Good, will feel tingly, warm and energised.  You may even find that your hands want to keep going back to certain things. Know that these items you’re energetically attracted to will serve you well. Remember too, that this may change from day to day, so keep tuning in.  After a while this process becomes easy and automatic.

Things that won’t serve your Highest Good may give no reaction, or feel ’empty’, cold, strange, or even give you a sense of physical or emotional discomfort.  Great! Stay away from those…

Bonus Use! – I have found this a great tool against emotional eating. When I follow this process at a time where I would normally eat for comfort or some other reason, I often find that NONE of the foods I’ve selected hold energy for me, and the very process of tuning in removes the need to eat anyway.

Image from www.allthingshealing.com

Method Two:

Sometimes it is impractical to run your hands over things, or you might want to evaluate an idea, choose a location or program, or think about a person.

Sit down and relax.  If you have images, brochures or other information, have this within easy reach.  Activate your hand chakras (see the links above in Method One), close your eyes, and use your hands to direct energy into your heart.  Sit like this for a minute or two until you feel calm, relaxed and peaceful.  This peaceful energy is absolutely necessary for this method to work.  When you are emotionally or mentally agitated, you’ll find it impossible to tune in.

Image from www.realwomanrealgod.blogspot.com

From your place of calm, ask the question:

What best serves my Highest Good?

Now tune in to the thing, or things that you are considering. Hold an image or brochure in your hands.  With a calm mind, tune in through your hands and then bring your attention to your heart. How do you feel, when you are tuned in to this thing? Look for emotions that are calming, positive or uplifting. Look for a sense of certainty or safety.  If you feel anxious, unsettled, or uncomfortable, it’s not for you. If it holds no energy or emotion consider it neutral or not especially useful to you.

Image from www.vaselect.com

If you don’t have an image or tangible object to work with, then hold an image in your mind, and keep your hands apart and palms up on your lap, or resting on each knee.Use the same process as above, tuning in to your own emotions and intuition.

You can sit down and go through this procedure before entering a shop, social situation or a place where you will be gathering information.  When you are in this space of energetic connection you will find that certain objects, brochures or images appear visually brighter, or just stand out more and capture your attention somehow when you look at them. These sorts of ‘bright’ energies are always good for you!

Next week is the last installment in this series.  If you’d like to go back and review what we’ve covered so far use the link below:

Strengthening Intuition – A Program of Exercises

Failure to Connect…

Image from sacramentocarstereoinstaller.com

“I made a nap this afternoon. I made it out of two pillows, a bed, a sheet, a blanket, and exhaustion.”
~ Jarod Kintz

If you’re psychic, or intuitive, or creative, or a writer, or an artist, or a meditator, or a musician – if you have a passion or a skill or a hobby, or if you’re just in pain – then you need to read this!

Have you ever been in love?  You know, that walking-on-air and the-whole-world-is-beautiful kind of feeling…  In that space everything comes together for us, we see the world through rose-coloured glasses, we’re totally inspired and life just magically flows.

Well, today I’m not talking about that sort of energy.  I’m going to talk about being at the other end of the spectrum – that place where our battery is flat, our enthusiasm is zip, and no matter how hard we try we can’t think straight, we can’t feel or function the way we normally do, ideas and abilities desert us, everything is hard and nothing goes our way.

Image from longevitystrategist.com

Sometimes, we end up in a place where we experience failure to connect. As a psychic or intuitive you may be unable to sense things. A meditator may be unable to get into that space.  Creative types may find that NOTHING comes to them, and anything they create is rubbish, or worse.  Others may find that their skills desert them and they can’t execute the simplest task.

We can’t connect, we’re out of synch, stuck in a miserable eddy or backwater instead of in the middle of that glorious energy of flow.

So what do you do when you find yourself in that space? (and if you’re human, it’s inevitable at some stage in your life…)

Firstly, understand that you’re not actually DISCONNECTED, although it may feel that way.  What’s actually happened is that your battery is flat, and you can’t hold enough of a charge to FEEL that connection right now.

Failure to connect can be brought about by stress, illness, shock, depression, fatigue, malnutrition, or excess. (Do I have to explain excess?  Really? Okay – think too much of anything – like too much sugar, caffeine, alcohol, mind altering substances, negative and unsupportive people, work, pressure, exercise… the list is long but I’ll stop here.)

Secondly, don’t panic. This will pass.  Honestly, it will.

Thirdly, you can be proactive, and give your body the conditions that will help it come back to balance quicker.

  • Rest.  Lots of rest.  (But if your issue is an excess of rest, give yourself some tasks and deadlines, and then get to it!)
  • Magnesium.  Find a good supplement and take some!  I favour the powdered forms that have other micronutrients, vitamins and minerals in them too.  Magnesium is such an important mineral, and it runs our entire nervous system, as well as about a thousand other important cellular and support activities within our bodies. We use it up fast when we’re stressed, sick or exhausted. I’ve blogged about magnesium previously, including the joy of epsom salts baths here.
  • If you’re warding off illness, or you’re sick, or in that place of slow recovery, add some Vitamin C and Zinc to support your immune system.  Perhaps you can find a good natural therapist to assist your recovery.  I am a big fan of acupuncture and herbs. But find what’s right for you!
  • Get a massage or a healing of some kind.  Allow your body and mind the time to be quiet and still.  Don’t have expectations of yourself.  Relax, let go and just be for a while.
  • Find some sunshine and sit yourself in it.  It’s a magical pill in the form of full-spectrum light and it has a miraculous effect on our bodies.
  • Let go of fear. Fear holds us in adrenal exhaustion, and ruins our kidney and liver energy. Sometimes therapy helps, sometimes we might need to do something more drastic like end a relationship, leave a job, or change our living arrangements.
  • Fill yourself up. If you’re running on empty, it makes sense. You might need to fill up on cuddles and love, fill up on peace and serenity, fill up on nature, fill up on art and music and movies and ideas, or just plain old fill up on life by heading out the front door and into the world and all its possibilities.  Do something different, go someplace different, fill the well! Ideas on how to do that here.

Blessings at The Sacred Well by Gilbert Williams

It gets so hard to connect when our body is in a space of physical, emotional or spiritual exhaustion. Be kind to yourself when this happens.  Don’t put pressure on yourself to achieve.  If you have known connection before, then you’ll find your way back to that flow again. No need to try.  Just relax into it.  All is well.  Know that you are deeply Loved. ♥ Bless xx

My Embarrassing Affirmation Confession

Image from thebeginwithinblog.com

You affect your subconscious mind by verbal repetition ~ W. Clement Stone

Affirmations are a known powerful tool for change, and are used by many people for creating positive shift and personal growth.  Louise Hay has made affirmations a modern-day medicine for the soul. (You can sign up for her daily affirmations here)

An affirmation is a simple statement, said in the present tense, that affirms positively a fact or situation that is desirable in your life.  You state that thing as if it is already happening, and you repeat that statement many, many times, to imprint the message in your subconscious mind, so that this thing becomes true for you.

Here are some common examples:

Image from affirmart.blogspot

Image from affirmart.blogspot

Image from alexafalk.blogspot

I must admit that when I first heard about affirmations I was quite sceptical.

Stating something as a truth and then repeating that statement often, even if it hadn’t yet shown up in my life, seemed a little daft.  If nothing else, I felt  fake to be claiming things that weren’t actually true for me yet.

But the experts agreed that affirmations could change your life. What did I have to lose by a little positive thinking?

And this is where my embarrassment comes in…

I created a test affirmation.

I didn’t affirm that I choose health.  I didn’t affirm that every day in every way I am getting better and better.  I didn’t even affirm that great wealth is mine now.

No.  My affirmation was pretty much a deliberate act of ‘New-Age Thinking’ defiance.  There was nothing spiritual or enlightened about it at all. I chose it because I expected it to fail miserably.

This is what I chose:

Everything I want is always on special

That’s right. I affirmed that whenever I wanted to buy something, the Universe would provide it for me at a discounted rate.

Image from l3electronics.com

I thought this was hilarious when I made it up. It seemed like the silliest idea in the world. But I dedicatedly repeated my affirmation whenever I thought about it – which was often seeing it made me laugh so much, and seeing I was going through a pretty rotten time financially back then.

And here’s the second part of my embarrassing confession…

It worked!

If I needed chocolate, my favourite brand was on special. Pasta? Reduced to clear! Holiday? Stay ten nights, pay for five.

The more I affirmed, the more noticeable it became until one day I just accepted this statement as my new reality.  Everything I want is always on special.

I’m so well known for this affirmation now among my family and friends that they expect this miracle to roll out for me too! I recently went to the shop to buy some ice-cream for dessert, taking a friend with me. “I knew this would be on special,” she said as she took a tub of heavily discounted premium deliciousness. “I should come shopping with you more often!”

We needed a holiday. A few days ago my husband and I booked a cruise. Why a cruise? We got 78% off the advertised rack rate. And then got a room upgrade!

Image from maritimeheritage.org

When we went to book the airfares QANTAS was having a one day sale, and  a return ticket from Brisbane to LA was ridiculously discounted. The travel agent couldn’t believe our good timing. We just smiled, looked at each other and repeated Everything I want is always on special.

Affirmations work. I have plenty of others that I use now too, but my first ever affirmation is still my favourite.  It might not be ‘spiritual’ but it’s lots of fun, and it affirms to me that I live in an abundant and benevolent Universe.

Here are some others that I love:

Something wonderful will happen to me today (I love to affirm this when I first wake up – it sets the tone for my whole day!)

All good things come to me

I am surrounded with kind and helpful people

My creativity flows, and my good ideas are endless

My body is returning itself to health. Healing and well-being are my natural energies

If such simple thinking can change your life, and bring positivity and joy, maybe it might be worth you trying some affirmations for yourself. The video at the bottom of this post has some good ideas for affirmations too.

I’m holding you in that good space – wishing you well, wishing you love, joy, health and abundance.  Bless xx

When the Muse Whispers in Your Ear…

This beautiful image from josephinewall.com.uk

O! for a muse of fire, that would ascend the brightest heaven of invention.
~ William Shakespeare

Inspiration comes to us in many ways, but there is one way almost all creative people have in common – the Muse comes and whispers in your ear.

The Muse knows you – she knows your talents and gifts – she knows what is written in your heart.

So she chooses you, and with Divine Timing she drops her tiny mouth to your ear and whispers an idea that is perfectly matched to your talents, your purpose, your dreams…

All you have to do is listen.

And you’ll know this is something out of the ordinary.  You’ll know you’ve just been given a gift.  Your heart will beat a little faster, you’ll feel a pull right down in your belly, your mind will snap to attention, and with your heart you’ll answer ‘Yes!’

The Muse will sigh contentedly. Then she’ll wait. She’ll wait for you to show her that her whispering is safe with you. All she wants is for this idea to be born. She’ll pour her own energy into it, hoping to co-create with you.

If you pull her idea deep into your heart, and if you nurture this whispering with thought and with action, she’ll happily whisper some more.

Try this, she’ll say.  This is the next part.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful if…

But… if you ignore her… if you take her whispering and put it on the shelf, letting it become dusty and dessicated… if her whispered idea becomes a ‘someday’; or if, even worse, you begin to slowly kill the magic by coming up with all the justifications why it won’t work, and why you can’t do it…

She’ll fly off and whisper her idea in someone else’s ear!

And trust me – that won’t be good for you…

One day you’ll be at the markets and you’ll see the thing she whispered to you first, and you’ll think, ‘Hey! That’s MY product!’

You’ll read the book or watch the movie and think, ‘Hey! That’s MY plotline.’

You’ll walk past the shop, or open the newspaper and think, ‘What the? That was MY idea.’

The Muse is endlessly patient and encouraging as long as we honour her inspiration with a little perspiration – if we work at the ideas we’re given, the whole Universe will contrive to support and prosper us!

Her gift to us will be like magic in our hands.

We ignore the Muse at our peril.

So the next time she whispers in your ear, understand that she chose you for a reason.  She chose you because it’s written in your heart, it will make your soul sing, and you have what it takes to bring this idea to life and make it shine!

And isn’t that all you’ve ever wanted to do?

When Divine Inspiration comes calling, say YES. Take your new idea seriously. Nurture it and help it grow.  It might transform your entire life. ♥ It might transform ours too.

A week-long course in journalling – Day 3

Australia is the land of ‘droughts and flooding rains’.  Trust me, when I say that this plays havoc with our storm-water drains!

“Ah, yes, Nicole,” I can hear you thinking, “but what has that got to do with journalling?”  Everything, my dear.

Day 3 – Clearing the pipes

Think of the pathway between your conscious mind, and that lovely, wise and creative source energy within you as a pipe, like the type of drain that carries storm water.  Over time, and with lack of use, the pipe is inclined to get blocked.  In times of drought our storm-water drains get clogged up with dirt and dust, sticks and plastic bags, parts of old bicycles and dead rats.  Is it no wonder that when rain finally comes we might be bitterly disappointed at the quality of water that flows from the pipe?  Maybe even the flow will be miserable, as the water dams behind all of the debris.

We need to clear the pipe before that pure, good water can flow.  We need to suspend our judgement of what comes out when the water first trickles from the pipe.

Task for the day:

Read through this section and then follow the instructions. Sit for a minute or so, with your eyes closed, and visualise a pipe inside you, clogged with all manner of rubbish.  Some of that rubbish may have even been useful at one time or other, but now all it’s doing is blocking your flow. Feel the power of that good clean water beginning to move down the pipe.  Feel it hitting the obstruction of all of that debris.  A journal is a very fine place for getting all of this mess cleared.

Your job is not to process this mess. Who would bother to filter through the crap that comes out in a stinking, stagnant stormwater drain when the wet season comes?  No.  Your job is merely to clear the pipe by writing.

Expect rubbish.  Expect pettiness.  Expect complaints and dead rats, pizza boxes and congealed plastics. Expect that most of what you write won’t even be true anymore (might not ever have been true, except in the heat of a moment), and will be an assortment of mouldering old hoo-haa.  Some of what you write might even sound like incredible soul wisdom.  Dazzling brilliance.  It won’t be.  It’s just an ego download.  Be happy about that.  Know that you are clearing the pipes. You’ll probably need to do this more than once.  But that’s okay – you have a lifetime of journalling ahead. Open your eyes, and start writing, beginning with the words The thing is…

Do this process often enough and your waters will flow clean and pure, to nourish and delight you in ways you didn’t know were possible. (this image by dan)

PS: I so heart that goldfish!

Journalling brings many gifts, once we clear the pipes to allow good flow.
