Turquoise – A Great Stone For Healers and Empaths

“A turquoise given by a loving hand carries with it happiness and good fortune.” ~ Arabic proverb

Last week I made a simple turquoise and rose quartz necklace for a friend, and it has been charging up in one of my amethyst caves ever since. I’ll give it to her today – a gift to thank her for all her help as my acupuncturist’s assistant. Her caring and skill have helped me through some difficult days.

I chose turquoise because it is such a supportive stone for healers and empaths. I also added a small rose quartz for love and nurture – replenishing the energy that is so lovingly given out to others. Turquoise is a wonderful crystal. It shields the wearer energetically, and helps to process and let go of emotions that are generated or picked up during work with others. It is very protective of the heart chakra, and clears grief, guilt and trauma.

The emotions of grief, guilt and trauma can move deep into the body. They sit in our throats, our lungs, our hearts, our bellies. It can be our own feelings, or the energies we shift form other people and then take on as our own. Unexpressed, these trapped emotions weaken our immune function, and our digestion. They affect our physical organs, making them more prone to illness and, over time, dis-ease.

Holding grief, guilt and trauma within our bodies is a place that many intuitive, empathic and deeply caring people find ourselves. To love and to care is also to expose ourselves to hurt and to loss. Loving and caring deeply is risky, because when you live in that open-hearted state, love goes hand in hand with suffering. Still, I would advocate that you love anyway. That you care anyway.

One of your greatest gifts is that you care. One of your greatest gifts is that you can live heart-opened. Don’t change that. Just learn to manage it better.

Turquoise, worn on the centre line of the body, is a beautiful crystal for supporting healers in all modalities. Maybe you’d benefit from wearing one too!

Lots of love to you, Nicole xoxo

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?”
~ Mary Oliver

I saw a new lyme doctor yesterday. Why a new doctor? It goes like this:

The first doctor I saw diagnosed me but wouldn’t treat me because ‘lyme was contentious and he was trying to fly under the radar’. My second doctor treated me aggressively with antibiotics and herbs, saving my life. The AMA put restrictions on his practice and prevented him from offering treatment to lyme patients. My third doctor – highly respected as a lyme physician here in Australia – had one appointment with me, where he prescribed a new and intense drug regime, shortly after which he took leave of absence for health reasons. I waited and waited for him to come back to work, and then found out in late December that he was no longer treating lyme patients as their immediate physician.

Meanwhile symptoms I’d not had for a long time had flared up, new problems had emerged, and I was keen to find someone who knew what they were doing and who could offer me continuity of care. After realising there was no-one in charge of me and not likely to be for some time I’ve been winging it, with a little help from my kind and courageous GP, and my own intuition. Winging it, I think I’ve done quite well, but still, I’m no doctor.

As you might imagine, I woke apprehensive. Discussions with other doctors had suggested that this year I’d have an even more harsh offering of drugs to take. That this year would need to be hard-core to make up the ground I’d so recently lost. I’d been told I’d need to see this new doctor and follow her own strict protocols as well as conventional lyme protocols for at least a year to get results.

I’m so tired of the pain, the brutality, the isolation imposed by both the disease and the treatment. As I lay in bed yesterday I offered up a prayer to the Universe. Let me get my answer today, I affirmed. I promise that whatever I am shown, I will honour that path.

In my mind I’d already decided that this doctor would be the last one. Intuition had led me to her. I’d already been given guidance in my channelled sessions that this year I would eventually forgo drugs. I would eventually forsake the last vestiges of traditional medicine, and I would find a way to heal, thoroughly and well.

This is it, I thought. My last roll of the dice.

But it didn’t feel like luck. It felt like I was standing on the edge of a cliff, from which I would either fall or fly.

Paradigm shift. They were the words that kept playing in my head. Those words and the fragment of a Mary Oliver poem, Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

I knew I was missing something. Some vital thing. A  key that would unlock this whole mess. A clue that would break me open and in the same breath begin to piece me back together again; gently, gracefully and with meaning.

I sat in the doctor’s office and we talked shop. Drugs, stats, bloods, symptoms, history. The usual. All the things she’d asked for.

‘You’re psychic,’ she said, reading my file, where for once I’d been bold enough to list that as my occupation. ‘That’s a real gift. Intelligent too, I can see. No-one would have developed this complexity of treatment protocols for themselves without deep intelligence.’

She looked at me, and held my gaze. ‘This isn’t my usual approach. But I assume you’re good at what you do too. I can see you have most of this under control. I don’t need to spend time discussing diet and nutrition with you. You’ve done most of the things I would recommend. I can see how sick you’ve been. How sick you still are. And you and I both know I can’t heal you – that healing comes from some other place. So, what do you need to heal – quickly, easily and with grace? How could you love your dis-ease?’

This wasn’t how I’d expected the session to go. I’d expected that she would tell me.

‘It’s funny,’ I said to her after pausing to gather my thoughts. ‘I fought so hard not to be psychic. But lyme stripped everything else away from me until it was the only thing left that I could do.’

I thought a bit more, and a realisation came to me like rays of light penetrating a deep dark forest. ‘You know,’ I said, leaning towards her, ‘when I do my psychic work, no matter how ill I might be, I move into a different space. A higher vibration. For that time I operate as if I don’t have lyme. And the effect lasts for a few hours afterwards, before I eventually come back into this disease state.’

She kept looking at me, holding that space for me, and suddenly I knew. Words tumbled out of me…

‘I’ve been so ashamed to be who I am. To be psychic. I’ve felt so guilty that I did not turn out the way my parents and teachers expected. The way society expected.’ I knew it to be true as they were coming out of my mouth. Guilt. Shame. Judgement. Such low vibration words. The complete opposite of the way I felt when I was firmly in my truth, owning my gift and living as a psychic, a shaman, as a spirit woman, guide and teacher. There I was open, I was light, I was in flow and everything in the world was beautiful and good. I was everything and everything was in me, and it was all as it should be. Peaceful. Blissful. Oneness.

There was more. I realised that I’d always held an expectation that when I eventually became well, that I should go back to my corporate life – the life in which my family and I had been so invested.

How could I ever be well when being well would mean walking away from my soul truth and my integrity to go back to living a life path dictated by others?

The shift in me was strong and immediate. Peace surged through me and calm lit every cell.

All I needed to do was own who I am. The beauty and the power and the strange rightness of this life. Of my skills and talents. Of my passion and my gift.

We both decided I need a light amount of drugs for a mop-up of one of my co-infections. A little retweaking of this and that, some healing and rewiring at an energetic level. I’ll keep using my herbs and essential oils. I’ll keep using my meditation and energetic healing. We’ll play it by ear, listen to my body’s own wisdom and see where that takes me. There’s some rebuilding to be done, some repair. But it is all fixable. It’s already shifting.

Finally, I have found a doctor who speaks my language and who can respect and mirror back to me what I most need to hear.

When I got home there was a message in my inbox. Dana, my PA, had forwarded me a poem sent by a lady called Illona. Thank you, Illona. It was so very timely.

It’s no coincidence that it’s also a Mary Oliver Poem.

I present the message in its entirety below:

Message: Nicole, I see this so much as who you are:

Today again I am hardly myself.

It happens over and over.

It is heaven-sent.

It flows through me

like the blue wave.

Green leaves – you may believe this or not – have once or twice emerged from the tips of my fingers

somewhere

deep in the woods,

in the reckless seizure of spring.

Though, of course, I also know that other song, the sweet passion of one-ness.

Just yesterday I watched an ant crossing a path, through the tumbled pine needles she toiled.

And I thought: she will never live another life but this one.

And I thought: if she lives her life with all her strength

is she not wonderful and wise?

And I continued this up the miraculous pyramid of everything

until I came to myself.

And still, even in these northern woods, on these hills of sand, I have flown from the other window of myself to become white heron, blue whale,

red fox, hedgehog.

Oh, sometimes already my body has felt like the body of a flower!

Sometimes already my heart is a red parrot, perched among strange, dark trees, flapping and screaming.

— Mary Oliver

big hugs

Oh my goodness how that validated everything I had seen and felt and known earlier that day. It was as if the Universe herself had turned up in my inbox to reflect to me the truth of that insight I was finally brave enough to own in my heart.

There is such wisdom and grace in the world when you open yourself to it.

Bless xoxo

Free Guided Meditation for the Solar Plexus Chakra

“I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.”
~ William Ernest Henley, Invictus

The Solar Plexus Chakra holds a gorgeous energy for us to work with, especially when we are making decisions about our lives, our direction, and what is best for us.

The Solar Plexus is the place where our sense of self-identity resides. It is the seat of our personal power. It is where our personal power, integrity and self-esteem are anchored.

Solar Plexus Chakra by Nicole Ladd, Flickr

Solar Plexus Chakra by Nicole Ladd, Flickr

When our Solar Plexus is balanced we feel calm, energised, clear and certain about who we are and where we are going in life. It instills us with confidence, vitality and purpose. We have self-control and sovereignty in our lives.

When our Solar Plexus Chakra is unbalanced and low in energy we feel ‘less than’, our self-esteem and confidence drop, we feel flat and tired, and we may be lost and confused about what is best for us and which direction to take. We make poor choices and don’t seem to care or be able to stop ourselves even though we are aware of our patterns.

When the chakra is too energised we can become stubborn, intolerant, narrow-minded, bossy and overbearing. We become workaholics who are relentlessly driven and who take no joy from life.

I’ve recorded a short guided meditation for you to help balance and work with the energy of your Solar Plexus Chakra. All you need to do is sit or lie comfortably and follow along with the sound of my voice:

Guided Meditation for the Solar Plexus Chakra:

Other actions that support the Solar Plexus Chakra include dancing; journal writing, 🙂 exercises which stretch and move the hips and belly; the essential oils Rosemary, Bergamot and Lavender; and the crystals Citrine, Tiger Eye, Yellow Topaz and Amber.

Much love to you! ♥ Nicole xx

Strengthening Intuition Week 5 – Sensing Energy in People

Image from www.universalspirit.com.au

There is deep wisdom within our very flesh, if we can only come to our senses and feel it. ~Elizabeth A. Behnke

Health is a large word.  It embraces not the body only, but the mind and spirit as well;… and not today’s pain or pleasure alone, but the whole being and outlook of a man.  ~James H. West

Today we’re going to explore two useful methods for sensing energy in people.  Once again, these methods will build on the skills you are already developing in working with your hands.

Materials Required:

  • You, and your activated hand chakras
  • A willing human volunteer
  • A place where you can work, undisturbed, for five to ten minutes.

*Note – if you cannot find a willing human volunteer, this method also works on animals, so recruit a helpful cat, dog, hamster, horse etc…

Method One – Sensing General Energies

This process is very similar to the one for sensing energy in places.  You may like to review that information first here.

The thoughts that come often unsought, and, as it were, drop into the mind, are commonly the most valuable of any we have.  ~John Locke, 16 May 1699

  1. Begin with a quiet prayer, or the setting of your intent, that everything you do be for the Highest Good of All.
  2. Have your willing volunteer stand, sit, or lie – whatever is most comfortable for both of you.  (I prefer people to lie down – on a massage table, bed, couch, or even the floor – so that they can relax completely as I work.)  If you choose to have people sit, make sure that you can move around them.
  3. Activate your hand chakras (Review that process here)
  4. Place your hands over the person’s heart and take a moment to tune it.  You don’t need to touch the person – just hold your hands about ten centimetres (3 inches) above the heart itself.
  5. As you tune in, relax, and open your mind to any colours, words, images, emotions or sensations that come to you from this person.
  6. Then slowly move your hands over the person’s body, without actually touching them.  What do you feel?  Look for places that feel hotter or colder.  Look for places that feel heavier or lighter.  Look for places that don’t feel ‘right’ in some way. Open your mind to any further information about what you are sensing with your hands.
  7. Go back to the places that stood out for you energetically.  Summon golden or white light through your hand chakras and transmit that energy into those places on your friend or pet.  Just direct that beautiful energy from your hands and keep giving that energy until the place on the body begins to feel more balanced and positively changed.  *Note – it is quite normal for people to remark that your hands feel hot as you are working with them or giving them energetic healing.
  8. It’s okay to ask for feedback or to ask questions about what you are sensing as you go – this is a useful practice as it helps build your knowledge and confidence.

Method Two – Working with The Chakras

There is a little useful general information on Chakras here as well as a nice healing exercise.  Chakras are energetic centres within the body.  They are quite strong and easy for beginners to feel.

Chakras are a wonderful place for sending healing to the body.

Image from www.treereiki.com

Begin with a quiet prayer, or the setting of your intent, that everything you do be for the Highest Good of All.

Using one of the following Chakra charts to guide you, feel for each Chakra, starting with the Crown Chakra at the top of the head, and ending with the Base Chakra.  Keep your hands about ten to fifteen centimetres (3 to 5 inches) above the body.

Feel for the amount of energy that is present in each Chakra, paying attention to any that are very strong, or very weak.  If any feel very weak, or cold, add some energy to them by directing that beautiful golden or white light from your hands into the Chakra itself to help them come back into balance.

When you are done, just bring your hands back together for a moment and give thanks.

Image from www.mysticalhouseofk.blogspot.com

If you are working with animals it is fine to rest your hands directly on the animal’s skin.  Most animals enjoy the connection and the energy they feel.

Animal Chakras will generally follow the same basic patterns as this chart for dogs, so you can use this as a guide for horses, cows, llamas, guinea pigs etc.

Strengthening Intuition Week 2 – Activating Your Hand Chakras

Image from googleimages.com

Eventually you will come to understand that love heals everything, and love is all there is. ~ Gary Zukav

Throughout history there are references to hands-on healing, and the laying on of the hands. But what exactly does that mean?

We are all energetic beings, and we are all capable of feeling energy, and giving energy to ourselves or others.  Today I’m going to show you how to activate your own hand chakras, so that you can begin to feel energy in the world around you, and so that you can also begin to explore the concept of hands-on healing.

It’s a very simple process, but don’t be disappointed by the simplicity. Simple techniques are often the most powerful, and if all of us are energetic beings by nature, why shouldn’t this be simple?

Step One:

Take a few relaxing breaths, and centre yourself.  Stand or sit with a straight spine.

Hold your hands out in front of you and shake them as if you’re flicking water off them. Then put the palms of your hands together and rub them vigorously.

Rub hands together, moving them quickly backwards and forwards

Repeat this three times.

Step Two:

Now gently separate your hands by about an inch or two. You should feel an energy like warmth, or a golden ball of light, between the palms of your hands.

Step Three:

Play with this energy.  Stretch your hands apart a little more and see if you can still feel that energy between your palms. Experiment with drawing your hands apart and bringing them back close together, as if you had something sticky or elastic between your hands. See if you can increase and decrease the size of the golden ball of light between your hands.

If you lose the sensation, repeat Step One, and then try again.

Don’t worry if it takes a little while to fully open the chakras in your hands, or if you lose the sensation of that energy between them fairly quickly.  It takes practice to strengthen your awareness of this energy.

This week, keep playing with this simple technique.  As you get better at feeling the energy, practice activating your hand chakras, and then holding your hands over your own body, directing that beautiful energy back into you.

Place your hands gently on or just above your body and allow that healing energy to flow from your hands into you

Can you feel heat or any form of energetic sensation as you do this? This is the beginning of being able to direct healing energy.

Next week we’ll begin to explore how we can use our hands to sense energy in objects.  Until then, keep practicing!

Letting Go in 2012 – Working with the Full Moon

Image from mrdotd.wordpress.com

Shoot for the moon and if you miss you will still be among the stars.
~ Les Brown

On Sunday, September 30, we will enjoy another glorious Full Moon. Full Moons always have an energy that works with supporting us to ‘release’ things, and as 2012 is a big year for releasing, it’s the perfect time to work on shifting and clearing old patterns, unwanted thoughts and behaviours, and limiting beliefs.  In their place we then set the intention for replacing these energies with things better suited to our positive future growth and abundance.

I’ve blogged about this previously, and there is a very comprehensive set of instructions about conducting your own Full Moon Ritual here:

Full Moon Becoming Ceremony

Every Full Moon also has its own unique energies and flavour.  Last month we were gifted the opportunity to clear ancestral and family beliefs and patternings.  September 2012’s Full Moon gifts us the opportunity to embrace more of our intuitive side.

If you are wanting to become more energetically sensitive, more psychic, and open up more of your own natural spiritual gifts and talents there is something else you can do to work in with the Astral Body energies (Sun, Moon, Planets, Stars) right now.  For the next few days, either side of the moon, you can also try this:

Meditation for Clearing, Shifting and Healing your Psychic Self

This Meditation will ground you, as it opens you up to more of your own natural energetic and psychic ability.  It is very comforting for people who spend most of their day indoors, or in front of a computer. I recommend that you do this meditative practice at least once, either side of the Full Moon, as well as the evening of the Full Moon on September 30.

  1. Find a place outside where you can comfortably stand barefoot on the skin of the earth.  Good, get your position clear.  Find a place where you can do this without interruption.  It is up to you what time of the day you complete your practice.
  2. Drink half a glass of water.
  3. Then stand barefoot on the earth with your face turned toward the sun (or the moon if you do this at night).
  4. Close your eyes.  Draw in sunlight through your heart chakra, or if it is night, draw in moonlight through your third eye.  If it’s cloudy, draw clouds and wind and rain and all those other elements into your belly via your sacral chakra (the second one up, three finger widths below your belly button. Do this for two to five minutes.  Let your body be energised, balanced and healed by the gifts of nature.
  5. When you’re finished, drink the rest of the glass of water.

Image from www.yogapaws.com

Image from www.yogapaws.com

Expect to feel different in the days to come.  Expect to be shown things in dreams, to become more perceptive and intuitive.  If you want to work with energy or psychic skills, expect them to become stronger and clearer.

Even if you do not want to choose a life path that is more actively spiritually and psychically connected, you will become more emotionally open, more energised, and more naturally intuitive.

Thank you, for working on your own self growth. Every time we do, it lifts the energy of Mass Consciousness.  Every time we clear and shift old energies, it makes its easier for ourselves and everyone else to become more open to our Soul Truth.

Blessings to you, Dear Friends.  The world needs more Lightworkers. Thank you for being one of them! ♥ xx

Seven Pictures to Re-Energise You and your Chakras

Chakras are energetic gateways or portals. Each has its own colour, and governs different areas and emotions within the body. I have meditated on each of the following images, and programmed each picture to energise, open, balance and heal your chakras.

How to use today’s blog:

  1. Slowly scroll down the page, gazing at each picture in turn.
  2. Notice which picture (or pictures) is more vibrant and attractive to you.
  3. Go back to that image (images) and spend a little longer.  Draw that colour deep into your body.  See if any words, impressions, emotions or images come up for you. You might even want to use that as the beginning of a journalling activity. These colours will feed and energise your chakras and are great indicators of what chakras are already flowing and working well or in the process of opening and healing.
  4. Also pay attention to any pictures that seem very flat and energetically unappealing. Note what chakra that picture relates to.  Once again see if any words, impressions, emotions or images come up for you. This flat energy will correspond to chakras that are blocked, stagnant or stuck.  Send them some white light and a little extra love.
  5. Run your eyes over the images again.  See if there is any change.  Eventually you’ll find that all of the pictures have an equal brightness as you come back into balance.
