Hi Everyone!

Yesterday, Nicole messaged me if I could relay a message to you. As of the moment she has no access to stable internet connection, not even a phone at the farm while it is being fixed. Still, she would like to send you all the love by giving you our Top 5 most listened to meditations here at Cauldrons and Cupcakes!

1. Body Awareness

“We are spiritual beings in physical bodies. This guided meditation will help you to be aware of both your energetic or ‘soul’ nature, and your physical vehicle. It will orient your chakras, and connect you into the earth and wider universe.

You’ll need to set aside about half an hour for this meditation. Sit or lie somewhere quietly, using pillows or blankets if needed to make yourself comfortable. Then simply close your eyes and follow the sound of my voice. It’s fine to let yourself fall asleep during the meditation, or immediately afterwards.”

2. Guided Meditation for Solar Chakra

“This short guided meditation for you to help balance and work with the energy of your Solar Plexus Chakra. All you need to do is sit or lie comfortably and follow along with the sound of my voice”

3. Spiritual Grounding

“This simple guided meditation specifically for helping you to ground into the earth. All you have to do is close your eyes, and follow my voice. Set aside fifteen minutes to relax, ground and heal. This is a very useful and powerful meditation, and I hope you enjoy it! ”

4. Connecting With Ancestors

“It’s not important for you to know who your Ancestors are, or how they are related to you. What is important is that you have an open mind, an open heart and a desire to create that connection.

You’ll need to set aside twenty-five minutes for this meditation. Sit or lie somewhere quietly, using pillows or blankets if needed to make yourself comfortable. Then simply close your eyes, hold your crystal or stone and follow the sound of my voice. It’s fine to let yourself fall asleep during the meditation, or immediately afterwards.”

5. Tibetan Singing Bowl -Healing

Nicole Cody Tibetan Singing Bowl

“The tones of the bowl help to shift blockages and lower energies from your body and auric field. It’s a little like being in a sound shower, where the vibration cleanses you all over, and through and through.”

We hope you enjoy our little offering today.  Chelsi (Nicole’s VA)  ❤ xx

A Message for Empaths and Sensitive Souls

Image from www.cincinnatizoo.org

Image from www.cincinnatizoo.org

“The real warriors in this world are the ones that see the details of another’s soul. They see the transparency behind walls people put up. They stand on the battlefield of life and expose their heart’s transparency, so other’s can finish the day with hope. They are the sensitive souls that understand that before they could be a light they first had to feel the burn.”
~ Shannon L. Alder

Lovely friends, I just wanted to write you a little message of hope and reassurance this morning, because I know many of you have been feeling as I do. And this past month or so has certainly given us a buffeting.

As we near the end of 2016 many of us have felt completely drained. Not only that, the usual fixes haven’t worked. More sleep, better diet, extra supplements, caffeine, yoga – all the things we’d generally use to perk ourselves back up or keep ourselves going – none of them have restored us to and then kept us at a place of feeling energised and vibrant.

Dear ones, it isn’t just you.

And there isn’t something seriously wrong with you. Although it might feel that way…

There are a few things at play here that are affecting you:

1. Positive Ions and Changes in the Planet’s Energies

There is major shift within the Earth’s crust. This creates phenomena such as earthquakes and active volcanoes, but it also releases  a massive amount of positive ions into the atmosphere. Positive ions impact our capacity to ground, as they change the electrical charge of the earth beneath our feet from a negative one to a positive one. Being unable to ground is a serious issue for emotionally and energetically sensitive people. It renders us unable to discharge the energies we pick up from other people and places.

Positive ions also increase inflammation, disturb sleep patterns, impair brain function, suppress the immune system, cause anxiety and depression, generate huge fatigue, provoke asthma and breathing difficulties, and impair digestive and hormonal function.

Positive ions affect everyone negatively, but for energetically sensitive people the problem is magnified.

2. Massive Energetic Clearing

Many of us have come to this lifetime to be pattern-breakers within our family tree. These last months of 2016 are gifting us opportunities to break patterns within us, and within our family, that have been handed down through generations.

Ancestral healing, healing of relationships, healing of patterns within us – all of this takes huge work. First we need to become aware of the patterns. Then we must generate the will to change. Then we must make the change. It often takes a supreme effort to do so. The energetic cost is high.

Of course, when we break patterns there is often resistance in those around us. Situations and relationships can become tense and difficult. Lots of stress generation adds an additional load to the already overburdened empath or intuitive.

3. Ending of Old Cycles

We are in the last vestiges of that old energetic era which started before the birth of Christ, and which began its phase out in 2012.

That era was one of masculine energy, power, authority, domination and technology.

Often something that is on the way out kicks and shoves and makes its weight felt one last time.

Sensitive and intuitive souls feel that kick more than most.

As this cycle ends we are also letting go of those unbalanced aspects of ourselves. Lots of work is done as we sleep. Lots of work happens in our psyche and energetic fields. We might be consciously aware of it. All we’ll feel is exhaustion. And rightly so – because we’re working really hard to get this old cycle closed off for good. We’re levelling up. Shift is happening!

4. Holding Space at a Soul Level

Empaths, intuitives, highly sensitive people, lightworkers – all of us who are sitting in a place of higher awareness and connection to humanity and the planet – all of us are holding space for a more positive unfolding of Earth’s evolution.

We are hurting as we feel injustices and cycles of damage.

We are holding a vision of a world that is kinder, calmer, greener and more evolved.

That kind of space-holding is vital to the conscious unfolding of mankind. And it takes a lot of energy.

So, my friends, if you are weary to the bone, if you can’t work out what’s wrong, if you think it’s only you, think again.

We’re closing off the old. We’re birthing the new.

It’s a lot of work.

Right at a time when we can’t ground or gain the energetic support from the Earth that would more easily sustain us.

It will pass.

Until the earth’s energy stabilises again, there are things we can do to help ourselves become re-grounded:

  1. Drink water with 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda and 1 teaspoon lemon juice or apple cider vinegar  – this will neutralise the static electricity in you. Don’t have more than 2 doses of this in a day.
  2. Hold or carry a red jasper or a black tourmaline – or both if you have them
  3. Make a grid of 4 stones for your bed – use hematite, carnelian or any jasper. No quartz! Activate with red light. Don’t know how? Go here – How to Build a Crystal Grid
  4. Rub Sesame Oil onto the soles of your feet
  5. Use Lavender oil for calming your limbic system – inhale or rub on soles of feet.

Keep doing the work! Plan, reflect, journal, meditate, take long walks, practice self-care and be aware of your own thoughts and behaviours. Now is the time for actioning these last big changes from the old energies. Now is your time to change the world, by first changing yourself.

Bless you. You’re so precious to me.

Sending biggest love and hugs your way, Nicole <3 xoxo

The Benefits of Body Earthing

“Man takes root at his feet, and at best he is no more than a potted plant in his house or carriage till he has established communication with the soil by the loving and magnetic touch of his soles to it.”
~ John Burroughs

Most of us live in environments that are positive-charge rich. Some of the greatest contributors of microscopic positively-charged particles are electrical items, computers, wi-fi, cell phones and hand-held devices.  We literally live in a ‘soup’ of positive ions and protons.

And that’s an issue.

Why? Positively-charged particles generate free radicals and create oxidization and inflammation within the body. Inflammation is in turn responsible for many chronic illnesses, body pain and inability to heal, and has also been linked to depression and mood disorders.

This situation is further exacerbated by our busy lifestyles. Poor diet, lack of exercise, dehydration, stress, illness and lack of sleep add to our cumulative inflammation.

Fortunately, there is something simple that can help us all.

The earth’s surface maintains a negative electrical charge, via the sun’s continual donation of negatively charged electrons, and through lightning strikes.

Image from imgkid.com

Image from imgkid.com

When we stand barefoot upon the ground the earth donates negative electrons to our bodies and our electrical fields. This returns our bodies and cells to a negative charge, earthing us and reducing our inflammation. The earth becomes a powerful, natural anti-oxidant treatment.

Negative electrons boost our immune function. They help regulate our sleep and hormones, reduce inflammation, uplift our mood, and normalise our body’s response to stress.

Standing barefoot upon the earth was once something that all of us did. These days though, when we live in houses, drive cars, wear shoes with synthetic soles and spend little time outdoors, we’ve lost this natural boost to our wellbeing.

Yesterday, after a week in bed, and still feeling frazzled and in pain, I went and lay down on the grass out in the paddock. I was stiff and sore. It took a while to get myself down onto the ground. Once there, I turned my fingers down into the earth. I rested my head and spine against the ground. My bare feet anchored themselves.

Image from Do'i Thu'a at Flickr

Image from Do’i Thu’a at Flickr

Minute by minute, things changed. I felt myself deeply relax. My breathing slowed. All tension drained away. After twenty minutes I stretched and stood up. My body was pain-free. My heart was calm. I felt peaceful and restored.

I enjoy living in this modern world. But I was made from the components of nature, not technology, and the earth is what restores me.

Earthing ourselves supports our body’s best function. It’s easy to do, and it’s free.

How long is it since you’ve been outside and actually connected with the earth? Maybe it’s time!

“There is a road in the hearts of all of us, hidden and seldom traveled, which leads to an unknown, secret place. The old people came literally to love the soil, and they sat or reclined on the ground with a feeling of being close to a mothering power. Their teepees were built upon the earth and their altars were made of earth. The soul was soothing, strengthening, cleansing, and healing. That is why the old Indian still sits upon the earth instead of propping himself up and away from its life giving forces. For him, to sit or lie upon the ground is to be able to think more deeply and to feel more keenly. He can see more clearly into the mysteries of life and come closer in kinship to other lives about him.”

Emergency Help for Grounding Yourself and Opening your Feet Chakras

“Get yourself grounded and you can navigate even the stormiest roads in peace.”
~ Steve Goodier

You may be aware that the Earth has experienced some fairly intensive geomagnetic storms and solar flares just recently.

The energy of those storms has passed, but there is still an energetic residue that we are dealing with, the effects of which may last a couple more weeks.

Most people are feeling an easing, and a softening. They are feeling more balanced and hopeful. But a few sensitive souls seem to be still stuck in their heads. They might be feeling not quite in their bodies or not quite grounded.

And there’s a good reason for that.

Geomagnetic storms bombard the earth’s atmosphere with electrically charged electrons and protons, creating positively charged ions. These tiny particles interact with the earth’s crust, which is usually negatively charged, and when the bombardment is intense the skin of the earth may end up with a neutral or positive charge for a short time.

What does that mean for you? You may find it hard to ground yourself to the earth right now. Energy that would normally be discharged through your feet instead stays within the body, going round and round in a feedback loop. That will change as the polarity and charge of the ground reverts to normal, but I have a few tips to help you manage until then.

When your feet chakras are blocked it puts additional stress on your liver and digestive system, making it harder for your body to detox and heal. It can also make you overly sensitive to caffeine and alcohol, and foods you would not normally react too, as these substances take so much longer to transit and exit your body. You can also have digestive issues, bloating, rising tension and become so emotionally over-stimulated so that you move into hyper-sensitivity.

Here are my top eight suggestions to open and clear those feet chakras, leaving you balanced and grounded:

  1. Massage sesame oil into your feet for a few minutes before you go to bed. This helps to drain all of that spinning energy down into your feet, and the out through your foot chakras. It will also promote a more restful night’s sleep. Rubbing firmly (not so it hurts!) over the top of the foot eases tension in the mind, chest and throat. As you press from the little toe down to the heel you release tension along your shoulders and arms. Gentle sliding pressure on your instep releases energy in the spine. When you work the heel you release tension in the belly. Finally, rub the instep in a circular motion to open and drain the foot chakra. Apply a little extra oil if it is needed, as it will absorb into the skin of your feet.
  2. Sesame oil with a few drops of cedarwood and frankincense essential oils – If you’re feeling disconnected from your intuition and emotions, this blend rubbed into the soles of both feet with help you to release and open the foot chakras and reconnect you to your heart and higher self
  3. Sesame oil with a drop or two of vetiver – If you’re experiencing anxiety, panic or a sense of discomfort you can’t put your finger one, this blend rubbed into the soles of your feet will open your foot chakras and desensitize your overwrought nervous system so that you come back into balance.
  4. Coconut oil with ylang ylang – Feel like you’ve been hit by a Mack Truck? Coconut oil and ylang ylang work to counter anger, stress, frustration, exhaustion and will gently restore confidence and a sense of inner peace.
  5. Black tourmaline – This is a fabulous crystal to carry in your pocket, to hold in your hands, or to grid around your bed when the energies are unsettled. It firmly connects you back into your body and grounds you into the earth, giving a sense of safety and protection. Soak a black tourmaline in your sesame oil? Fantastic!!!
  6. Hematite – Rub a tumbled hematite over the soles of your feet and foot chakras, finishing with that circular motion over the chakras in your soles. Hematite will open and clear the foot chakras like pulling the plug out from a bathtub of water. This is a great one to use during the day, and can be done at work. Terrific if you spend a lot of time in front of a computer.
  7. Epsom Salts and Crystal Foot Soak – Fill a small tub with warm water, a few tumbled stones, and up to a cup of Epsom Salts (pure magnesium crystals). Place your feet in the tub and use the stones to give the underside of your feet a gentle massage. This will release your feet chakras and give your body a hit of that calming mineral – magnesium. Perfect for soothing a frazzled nervous system, cleansing your aura and realigning all your chakras. Feel free to add essential oil to your foot soak, and to follow with a sesame oil rub for some deep self-care.
  8. Stand barefoot in a river, stream or ocean for at least five minutes. Press and gently rub your feet on the bottom to open and activate your feet chakras. Moving water maintains a negative charge. Perfect for what you need right now.

Once this energy has cleared, you’ll be able to ground and work with your foot chakras in the usual way. You can read more about that here:

Unblocking and Grounding your Foot Chakras

It only takes a few minutes to work with your foot chakras, but those few minutes are a significant act of love and nurture that will truly help you to stay strong, centred and grounded so that you can live in a way that is satisfying and which helps you be your best self. Please don’t give yourself a hard time about the way you’ve been feeling. Celebrate the fact that you are an energetically sensitive soul!

Navigating The Energies of March 2015

~ Jeanette Winterson, Boating for Beginners

I’m sure you’ve been noticing it, these intense energies of the last few weeks. The energies are astrological and are caused by planet positioning,  the super moon, eclipses, solar flares and storms, and geomagnetic disturbances here on the earth with earthquakes, flooding and cyclones/hurricanes. These energies affect us physically, and sometimes mentally, emotionally or spiritually.

For some people this has manifested as a crushing fatigue coupled with an inability to sleep deeply or well, to the point where they wonder if they have succumbed to some terrible as-yet-undiagnosed disease.

For many there has been an increase in anxiety, sadness for no reason, digestive disturbances, jitteriness, short-term memory loss, headaches, migraines, foggy thinking, dizziness, heart palpitations, shakiness, balance and co-ordination issues, heartburn and tummy upsets.

Some people have found themselves angry, rageful, frustrated and bitter with a sudden resentment. They are fighting with their loved ones. They feel hopeless and worthless and like everything they do is crap, or will amount to nothing.

Some folk are fearful, worried that tragedy is around every corner, is stalking their families, is a heartbeat away from destroying everything they hold dear. They fear that they will be rejected, abandoned, and ostracised.

Did I mention it’s intense?

And then there’s this weird feedback loop. All the things we’d thought we’d dealt with seem to be suddenly coming back and staring us in the face again. Taunting us. Mocking us. Making us fear that we are sliding back into a hole that took us a long time to crawl out of. Sometimes we see these broken or unbalanced parts of ourselves when we look in the mirror. Sometimes our loves ones mirror them back to us in a way where we realise that what they are showing us is really as much about ourselves as it is about them.

At times recently it has felt as if every good thing we told ourselves that was possible, or that others told us was possible, was a handful of dust and lies.

And then the past few days… The past few days have been brutal. Especially if you’re a sensitive soul. We’ve had a massive increase in solar flare activity and electromagnetic disturbances which have impacted many of us on many levels. Some of us have been almost on our knees with the energy of it all.

But take a deep breath.

It’s passing.

Some of you will already feel a little lighter. Things will begin to feel more hopeful. You’ll find yourself with energy again, and clarity will return.

What we’re experiencing is not just solar flares and a geomagnetic storm – it’s also a big energetic shift, and the shockwaves of that shift are rippling though us, stirring up the dust in our corners and the fears and pains trapped in the lower vibration of our being.

It’s okay.

Keep breathing.

Let it go.

It’s up to you. You can ride it out, and it will pass. For some people, that will be enough.

For those of you who feel called to self-discovery, this can be a time of massive insight and breakthrough.

Know that facing and exploring things which cause you pain or that hold painful memories will allow you to find the key that unlocks the door to a deeper level of yourself. As you shed a little light in those dusty corners of your soul you’ll be able to call back those broken, rejected and abandoned parts of yourself. This in turn allows reintegration so that you can step more fully into your power; the power that comes from being self-aware. This in turn leads to greater self-acceptance, and self-love.

No matter what path you choose, journalling, sitting quietly in reflection, doing things that bring you joy or that relax you, spending time in nature, all of those will be useful activities right now.

Further tools for support:

Nutrition – drink plenty of water and up your magnesium intake. Listen to your intuition around food choices, and steer clear of sugar and too much caffeine. Give your nervous system a break.

Crystals – For anger issues – red jasper. For gaining clarity – clear quartz. For fear – hematite. For feelings of abandonment and lack of love – rose quartz. If you’re freaking out about money and financial security – citrine. You can hold the stone, pop it in a pocket, wear it as jewelry, or place it under your pillow. These stones will also work well for pets or children – just place crystals in sleeping area or under bedding.

Essential Oils – Lavender is an excellent all-rounder right now. I am also loving Young Living’s Peace and Calming Blend  (perfect for pets and kids too!). Cedarwood oil rubbed onto soles of feet and back of neck will help with grounding you and promoting restful sleep – and is awesome when used in conjunction with Lavender. Frankincense is another useful one for tuning in to a stronger spiritual and intuitive connection. If you need help sourcing these oils you can contact me here.

Grounding – Grounding yourself into the earth is a very nurturing and stabilising practice. You can learn simple grounding techniques here and at this post: Unblocking and Grounding your Foot Chakras

Epsom Salts Baths – Epsom salts baths are fabulous for detoxing, grounding, soothing frazzled nerves and cleansing our aura. Click here for instructions.

You’re not alone in all of this. So many of us have been affected by these energies. Draw strength from the knowledge that you are sensitive. Be brave and open to that sensitivity, and allow yourself to grow and transform.

Much love, Nicole xx

A Little Bit of Normal

the girls

“Get yourself grounded and you can navigate even the stormiest roads in peace.”
~ Steve Goodier

I’ve spent the last twenty-four hours offline and disconnected from the outside world, so that I could reconnect with my husband, our dogs, and the beautiful place we call home. I needed that, after five days holding the space for my channelling group. I wanted to feel grounded and nurtured. I’ve even had a day off from early starts and meditating.

Today I’m still tired, but feeling good. I’ve even planned a day of cooking, after our morning trip to the Mullum Farmers Markets. (Which we shall be going to as soon as this blog is posted and I get out of my pyjamas!)

Normal blogging will resume tomorrow. In the meantime here’s my last twenty-four hours in pictures:

Guided Meditation for Orienting Body Awareness

Image from BESTBED

“Whatever happens to your body, your soul will survive, untouched…”
J.K. RowlingHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Here is the first in a series of seven weekly guided meditations I am recording for you.

We are spiritual beings in physical bodies.

It’s fine to let yourself fall asleep during the meditation, or immediately afterwards.

If you’ve never worked with chakras before, don’t worry – it’s very straightforward. I’ve included a picture below

The recording was made at dusk, outside at my farm. I’m sitting under my favourite tree, and you can clearly hear the cicadas, birds, cows and crickets in the background. Let them add their healing energy to this meditation for you too. 🙂

Weathering the Moment

Park Bench by Sandra Bryant

Park Bench by Sandra Bryant

“Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby.”
~ Langston Hughes

Do you ever get stuck in your head?

I found myself there last night. The sort of stuckness where you’re oh-so-tired, and know you should be getting to sleep, but instead you keep worrying something around in your brain.

It’s not any good, you know. That useless kind of fretful worrying. Nothing constructive about it. It won’t solve anything, fix anything, heal anything. All it shall do is make you more tired, frazzled, down or stuck.

I have a meditation technique I use when I find myself in this kind of headspace. I like to think of it as ‘weathering the moment’. Invariably when I use this method I emerge out of the other end feeling calmer, quieter and with some breathing space up there in my brain again. I realise that I can put down the tail of the particular tiger I am wrestling, and move into sleep, or onto something more constructive.

Here’s what you do:

Stop. Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, just stop. Give yourself five minutes. Obviously if you’re driving a car wait until you can pull over safely. No point in adding to your problems… 🙂

Deliberately take a deep breath and exhale slowly, and then consciously move your awareness to what’s outside you. Not to people or traffic or man-made things. Instead tune in to nature.

If you’re in an office block or an apartment, go sit by a window, or at least where you can glimpse outside. It doesn’t matter if what you have is a mountain, a patch of sky, the top of a tree.

View out Gastown Window by Tim Gray

If you are fortunate enough, take that five minutes outside.

If you are bedridden, let your mind float out of the window into that summer day, the quiet night, the rain storm, the falling snow, the endless stretch of afternoon.

Afternoon Light by Jess Gibbs

Be the air. Follow the sunshine. Let yourself fall with the raindrops. Expand out to the horizon. Alight on a leaf. Fly like a bird. Roar on the wind.

Soon you understand something fundamental. You are not your problems. Your soul is bigger than that. And in fact, in the scheme of things, as you merge for a while with the wider world of nature that keeps happening all around us, it is easier to distance ourselves a little from the immediacy of our worries, and to gain some precious perspective.

Birds-Eye-View-Bay-of-Fires

If you’re able to, conclude your weathering session by standing barefoot on the ground. If that’s not possible put your hand on the rough bark of a tree, or the smooth leaf of a plant. Connect. Discharge that last racing fretfulness into the accommodating energy of Mother Nature. If physical connection is not possible, imagine yourself doing these things as if it were real. It will still have a similar positive effect.

bare-feet

Five minutes is not much in the scheme of things. But five minutes, well spent, can make all the difference.

Much love to you, Nicole xx

“In a flash of wonderment she saw firm, continuous ground under her feet, stretching from back then to right now and on and on as far as her eyes could take her.”
~ Ann Brashares, The Second Summer of the Sisterhood

Ever felt any of the following?

  • Vague, disconnected and disoriented.
  • Spaced out, especially when doing meditation or other forms of spiritual connection.
  • Full of ideas but either can’t make a decision or can’t follow anything through from concept to completion.
  • Don’t hold healings, or chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture treatments etc for more than a few hours before the good results all dissipate.
  • Feel like you are exhausted even after a good night’s sleep.
  • Slow to heal.
  • Can’t seem to work out who you are or what you want.

If you answered yes to any of these you could be experiencing blocked foot chakras. On the underside of your foot, in your instep, is a large energy centre known as your foot chakra. This chakra works strongly to earth your base chakra. When the chakra is open, activated and grounded it also helps balance and energise all other chakras in the body.

These simple steps can help you to unblock and activate the chakras in your feet.

1. Take a large tub of warm water and place a number of smooth stones or tumbled crystals in the bottom.  Place your bare feet in the water and roll your feet over the stones until they feel energised.

Image from Urban Goddesses

I like to use a variety of crystals that work with each of the major chakras so that I have a rainbow of colour. But I always advise you just to use what you are drawn to. Trust that your own soul knows best what it is you need.

2013-07-28 16.35.30

2. Dry your feet and then stand barefoot upon the earth. Look down at your feet and visualise the chakra in the sole of your foot spinning and opening and energetically connecting into the energy of the Earth. Really allow yourself to feel this connection.

3. Shake the tension out of your hands, loosen your shoulders and give your body a good energetic shake out.

4. Now raise your arms up to the sky and draw that energy of the sun and the moon and the stars down in through your hands and the top of your head.

Image from News Press

5. Draw the energy of the earth up through your feet and your base chakra. Feel strong like a well grounded tree, roots deep down into the earth.

toonaciliata

6. Have all of the energy meet at your heart; healing, balancing and empowering your entire body.

7. Finally, nurture and nourish your foot chakras and help anchor that grounded energy by rubbing a few drops of pure sesame oil into the soles of your feet. Sesame oil also helps us open to abundance and to be comfortable with flow and positive manifestation.

Working with your foot chakras is a simple act of self nurture than can give lasting benefits and improved well-being on all levels.

My Favourite Crystals for Grounding

“In my opinion, it’s more interesting to see magic happening in a world that feels grounded. If the world is already crazy, then anything can happen. So it’s better to start with something real.” ~ Michel Gondry

Being grounded is all about being centered within our body, having a sense of calm, and enjoying a deep connection and engagement with the world around us. When we are grounded we make better decisions, we behave in ways that are more authentic, and we own our power.

But sometimes we become unsettled by life.  Too much sugar and caffeine, not enough sleep, stress, trauma, interacting with unbalanced people, hormonal imbalance, a big shock, taking other people’s energy into our own aura (healers are often guilty of this!) – any of these things can leave us feeling ungrounded.

Symptoms of being ungrounded include:

  • feeling vague and unable to focus
  • anxiety with no cause
  • sudden dizziness
  • falling asleep while meditating
  • ‘cranky and out of sorts’ that comes on for no reason
  • hungry but food doesn’t satisfy you
  • inability to sleep
  • heaviness in the body
  • feeling ‘spaced out’
  • emotional and over-reactive
  • craving sugar and junk food
  • nausea
  • mental confusion
  • inability to focus on simple tasks
  • feeling like someone just unplugged your power cord
  • sudden exhibition of the same unpleasant thoughts or emotions of someone you were recently with

* Please be aware that some of these symptoms are also signs of a more serious illness.  Use your best judgement, and if in doubt, always seek medical advice.

I’ve written about ways to stay grounded or to move back into that grounded energy here:

Staying Grounded in Uncertain Times

However, when faced with a situation where one of my students or clients needs to get grounded fast, I am a big fan of rocks.  Crystals are super grounding tools, and so easy to use.  All you need to do is hold one, wear one or slip one into your pocket.

Here are some of my favourite grounding stones:

Black Tourmaline

I just love this stone! It is so powerful it can slam you back into your body fast, but gee, it never feels rough or violent.  It’s so gentle in the way that it treats you that I find it perfect for children, sensitive souls and those people experiencing deep emotional turmoil.  It also anchors your into your Earth Star Chakra (about 12 to 18 inches below your feet) and keeps your Earth Star Chakra open and connected into the earth. I never leave home without one…

A tourmalinated quartz will do a similar job, although less powerfully, but it will also keep your aura shielded, strong and bright.

Jasper

Who doesn’t love jasper?  There are so many varieties of this earthy stone, and all of them will work with grounding you, so I always advise you to choose what you’re attracted to or what strongly repels you.

Jasper helps you feel at home in your body, and at home in the world. It is wonderful for transmuting negativity and heavy emotions, replacing them with a sense of wellbeing and emotional balance. It realigns your chakras and ‘snaps you into place’.

Jasper is gentle, and it takes a little while for the affects to be felt, but that’s why I favour it for people with long-term imbalances like anxiety and depression, ADD, ADHD, post traumatic stress, bi-polar or chronic illness.  It has a strong mothering energy, and it is a superb nurturer.

I’ve included some charts of the various jaspers below – as you can see, there are many beautiful stones to choose from.

Bloodstone

Bloodstone is actually a base form of chalcedony and the red spots that look like blood, hence giving this stone its name, are dots of iron oxide or blood red jasper (see jasper above).

Bloodstone is a crystal I use a lot with clients who are are suffering the effects of toxicity – be that toxins from diet (sugars, artificial sweeteners, chemicals etc), the effects of being in a toxic relationship or working/living with toxic people, or toxins from long-term illness, infections or pathogens.

This crystal gives courage, and aids mental and emotional clarity.  It strongly detoxifies your physical, emotional and energetic bodies, and allows you to gain strength and energy.  It anchors and connects your heart, base and earth star chakra, and strongly gets you ‘out of your head and into your heart’. Bloodstone helps you stand firmly  in your own truth.

Green Aventurine

When you’re overwhelmed, jaded, broken-hearted, exhausted and at the end of your rope Green Aventurine is a perfect grounding stone for you. This stone is a variety of quartz, with fuschite and mica inclusions.

Green Adventurine cuts through misery and enables us to feel joy again.  It helps us to remember that we are in a body (as opposed to living bogged down in feelings or emotions) and it is very healing for the nervous system, lymph and circulation.

A positive side affect of this stone, besides grounding us back into our bodies and opening us up to joy again, is that we often feel inclined to eat better, to exercise and enjoy the benefits of living in a body.  It helps re-engage us with the physical aspect of ourselves and the world around us.

It is also strongly connected to the Devic Kingdom and Fairy Realms. Needless to say, most children adore this stone!

Septarian Nodules

This attractive combination of minerals include aragonite, calcite, chalcedony, limestone and mudstone (the grey muddy bits!).  Septarian Nodules aren’t for beginners.  I use them to rebalance people who have become ‘unbalanced’ doing psychic work, energetic healing, counselling or within a therapy-based business.

They clear our psychic connection, anchor us into our base and earth star chakras, clear out and balance ALL chakras, and help us to come back to ‘true’. Awesome for clearing energies and entities from our aura just by holding the stone.

* Not for prolonged or daily use.  See this as part of your emergency toolkit.

Unakite

Unakite combines a form of red jasper with epidote (the green part of the stone).  I use this stone for grounding people who are emotionally distressed after experiencing disruptive family or home life.

It is brilliant for anyone (including children!) going through relationship breakups, relationship transitions or life transitions.  It encourages strength, openness and optimism.  It is very restorative for the physical body and encourages healthy sleep patterns.

Pearls

I know you’re probably shrugging your shoulders here, wondering why I have included pearls, as they are an ocean ‘stone’.  But I love the gentle mothering energy of pearls and mother-of-pearl.  It is perfect for babies, the elderly, the dying, anyone who is very weak or frail, and for souls whose point of origin is starseed (ie not from Earth).

Pearls connect us to the wider cosmos, and help us feel at home in the greater scheme of things.  They also gently connect us into our Higher Selves, helping us to feel connected, grounded and expanded.
