Good Morning! (or hello for whatever timezone you are in!)

I’m a little late blogging today. But I have good reason.

Right now I’m holding space for many of you in my meditations, and some of you have needed extra time, care and attention. So my usual meditations have been taking me longer than normal. Which is fine by me. It’s something I love to do and am honoured to do.

If you’ve already been asked to be included in my meditations I have you! It’s not too late to join me though, if you still want to be included. Just leave me a comment below this post.

Please don’t hesitate to ask. I have room for all of you. There is space and time for all of you.

This is what I’m working on:

Until June 9 I am focusing on supporting you to move through and begin to resolve feelings of loss, fear, anxiety, overwhelm, emotional isolation and powerlessness. My aim is to find the places where emotion has become stuck inside you, causing you to become out of alignment. I am also looking for the old stories, traumas and memories which are subconsciously shaping you in opposition to your soul’s true nature. In my meditations I will dissolve these outmoded energies and stories, returning them to love and releasing their patterns from your energetic field.

As your energy comes back into alignment with your true nature, your vibration will rise and you will be more easily able to express yourself creatively and emotionally. It will increase your sense of self-awareness and self-trust.

I meditate twice a day, morning and evening. I also connect with some people during my night-flying practices. If you’d like me to include you or a loved one specifically in my meditations just let me know in the comments below.  And, of course, I love getting feedback about anything you notice as a result of my meditations.

Meditation is the cornerstone of my life. It is the first thing I do when I wake up each morning. It is the last thing I do before I go to bed.

I don’t just meditate to find stillness and peace. I also use meditation for shamanic and mystical work. I use it to connect with and help my students, I use it to access healing, and to share and support energies.

Sitting By The Fire, Sending Love Out To The World

Last night I sat by the fire (it is winter here and the nights are cold) and I meditated. My mala beads clicked between my fingers and I sent love and prayers out into the world.

I sent some to you. I sent some to my family and to my students. I sent some to the wider world and to the planet.

This morning, early, I sat again by the fire. I settled into meditation. I meditated for myself. I meditated for you.

All my days are book-ended by my spiritual practice.

All my life is anchored by this soulful habit of connection and intention.

It shapes everything I am, and everything I do.

If you’ve been feeling alone, isolated or unloved know that it is not true – from this little corner of the world I am with you, I am holding you in love, I am intending for you to be the best that you can be, and my daily prayer for you is that you come to know yourself, to love yourself, and to be at peace in your heart and in your life.

Calling All Lightworkers – Breathe in Pain, Breathe out Peace

Have you been feeling unsettled or agitated? Have you felt overwhelmed with world events or climactic ones? Are there problems closer to home causing you distress?

At times it is easy to feel small and insignificant – unable to help when all we feel in our hearts is an urge to try. Whether it is pain and illness in our family, or troubles within the environment or the wider world, we can often feel powerless to do anything meaningful.

But there is something we can do. Meditate!

Right now, one of the most helpful things that you can do as a Lightworker is to anchor love, light and positive intent in the world.

Tonglen is Tibetan for ‘giving and receiving’ and it is a beautiful and simple meditation practice than anyone can do, with no experience.  What matters is your intent.

Sit or lie quietly, and close your eyes. I like to sit with my spine straight, and my hands together in my lap, thumb tips pressed lightly together. If I’m lying in bed, I lie on my back with my hands crossed together over my heart. Try to sit if you can, but for those of you unwell or unable to do so, a prone meditation practice will still work.

Start by imagining someone who you want to help. It might be a friend with depression.  You breathe in the heaviness of their energy and suffering and breathe out joy and peace, or whatever other energy you feel would bring them comfort.

All you ever have to do is ‘breathe in’ the condition, emotion or suffering of another, making room for healing and comfort within them.  Then ‘breathe out’ positive energy, love and light to fill the space you have created.

The suffering of others is also our own suffering, so this meditation can help us as we endeavour to help others.  If you are in pain, breathe in your own pain and also the pain of everyone who is suffering from your affliction.  Breathe out relief to everyone, in whatever form feels most right to you.

Do not worry that the things you breathe in will become a part of you, further weighing you down. As you breathe in suffering it is transmuted back into light, and it dissipates harmlessly.

Sometimes you may not even have a word for what you are breathing it – it will simply be a feeling, a weightiness, a blackness or even a void.  Breathe out hope, lightness, joy and well-being.  Breathe out ease.

At times when we don’t know what else to do, this suffices. As you bring peace to others, you bring it also to yourself.  It is a very soothing and calming practice.  You don’t need to belong to any particular religion, or follow any particular spiritual philosophy.  This simple practice merely acknowledges that we are all human, all connected, and all the same – no matter who we are, or where we come from.

His Holiness, the Dalai Lama says of Tonglen:

“Whether this meditation really helps others or not, it gives me peace of mind. Then I can be more effective, and the benefit is immense.”

In addition to meditation, here are some simple additional things you might like to try:

  • Treat yourself kindly and with care. Get enough sleep, eat well, and find things to be grateful for in your daily life.
  • Reach out to others with a spirit of friendship and compassion.
  • Spend time in nature, resting and reinvigorating your soul.
  • Don’t contribute to gossip, hurtful or negative talk, or sharing negative views or images on social media.
  • Spend time with your loved ones, and enjoy the company of your family and friends. Laugh together, and make good memories.
  • Read uplifting and nourishing books – both fiction and non-fiction.
  • Grow food or flowers.
  • Use your shopping dollars to support products, services and enterprises who contribute positively and responsibly to the environment and community.
  • Speak kindly to yourself and others.
  • Choose to remain positive and optimistic about the future. Anchor that energy of hope. Be inspirational to those around you.
  • Live life lovingly and to the best of your ability.
  • Follow your own joy. Create, dream, travel, start the project or business you’ve been thinking about for so long, connect, be yourself, learn something new, teach something you know, be the change.
  • Know that your life matters, your ideas matter, you matter!

Together, we can make a difference. Together, we might just change the world.

I’ve been moved to tears by the many messages you’ve sent me about inclusion on my Mala of Love.

Truly, I was not expecting such an outpouring. So many of you asking not for yourselves but for those you love to be included on a bead. So many of you brave enough to finally put your hand up and say, yes, I’d like some support.

I have many more requests than I do beads.

So, what I propose to do is this:

I shall contact all of you. Be patient. That might take some time. I’ve had over five hundred messages. 106 of you shall be included on my first mala, and then one bead for my friend Liz and one bead to represent ALL OF YOU.

Thank you to everyone who asked that I include a bead for myself. I promise I will.

I will use the Keeper Bead for myself. The Keeper Bead is the bead at the beginning and end of the prayer or mantra cycle where your thumb and finger come to rest. It is both bead 0 and bead 109.

When I have finished this present mala cycle of one month, I shall make ANOTHER mala. I will allocate 107 places keeping bead 108 to represent all of you, until everyone who has contacted me has had the chance to be included in a month of  my prayers and meditations.

Once again, please be patient. It will take a good few months to pray for all of you individually.

But I shall. That’s my sacred promise to you.

Mala of Love

I meditate twice a day; once in the morning when I first wake up – at around 4am, and once in the evening before I go to bed. This has been my practice now for over thirty years. Still, I feel I am only just stepping into a place of truly understanding meditation. And there is so much more yet to learn and experience.

Anyway, I digress.

What I’d like to do on my blog this morning is make an offer. I usually meditate on a mala for at least part of my meditation session. A mala is a string of prayer beads.

Whenever I run a long retreat or course I make a mala with the intent of working for that group, with a bead for each person. Then twice a day I meditate on and pray for the students in my group. I do this for one month leading up to the course, and sometimes more. At the end of the course I gift them their bead.

My offer this morning is this: I’m about to make myself a new mala of 108 beads, that I will use for thirty days. I’m making this mala specifically to aid in emotional healing, and that will be my theme in my twice-daily meditations. It’s a mala for forgiveness and self-love, for ending guilt, regret, fear and shame and embracing love and flow and abundance.

Each day I’ll hold every bead, one at a time, between my fingers and pray my mantras and then a specific prayer for each bead – each person. I’ll wear the mala every day, all day, so that I carry you with me.

Would you like one of those beads to be for you, or someone who you know?

That way I can hold you in my daily meditations, and you’ll know that someone loves you, and is thinking of you, holding an intent for healing, and sending energy and love to you.

There are 107 beads available, because I have already purposed one to my friend Liz.

At the end of the thirty days, I’ll send you the bead for the cost of the postage. Or if you’d prefer, I can make the bead into a necklace or your own meditation mala for you, although there would be additional cost for that to cover the materials and postage.

Talking to Dragons

It’s after 3am. An odd time to be posting a blog. Still. I’m wide awake.

I might as well stay up now so that I can do my morning meditate soon, as is my daily practice.

It’s been one of those nights. The kind of night I’ve not had for a while. I guess Lyme wanted to remind me…

So I’ve lain awake all night, staring at the ceiling, roaming the house, trying whatever remedies I have to tame this pain beast. My body aches. Electricity arches down my limbs, and stabs behind my eyes. It feels as if someone has lodged an ice-pick in my skull and is twisting it violently. Random pain assails me. But it’s okay. I am becoming quite skilled as a Lyme Dragon Whisperer.

I’ve not quite got the dosage right on my latest drugs and herbs yet. Which include, of course, the dreaded Drug Number Four. Once again it’s giving me grief, and yet I know that the pain is bacteria dying, so I’m celebrating even as I want to scream. (I won’t though – too dramatic and it will wake Ben and the dogs!)

I’m hoping to slip back to bed after my meditation. I’m hoping that the meditation will take enough of an edge off, and combined with my massive exhaustion I’ll just fall right asleep.

Fingers crossed, hey?

Meanwhile I’m going to fly the night sky, and send you all some healing. I might as well be useful for something. Anyway, when I’m in that meditation place I am free of my body and its limitations. The pain is gone. It gives delicious respite.

Okay. I’m ready now.

Helping The Great Mother

One of the most vivid dreams in my night of owl dreaming was one in which I flew over the quiet, dark earth with Auntie and my Grandmothers.

There is something about a ‘psychic dream’ or a ‘spiritual dream’ (however you want to call it, I know you’ll know what I mean) which makes it quite different to an ordinary run-of-the-mill ‘subconscious making sense or nonsense of the day’s happenings’ kind of a dream.

Dreams in which you receive a spiritual message or have a metaphysical experience have a heightened quality to them. They are more vivid, more textured, more real. It’s as if you have shrugged off your sleeping form and stepped into another dimension. Which, of course, you probably have.

This is how it was in this particular dream. Auntie, my old and wise Aboriginal mentor, flew on one side of me. Beside her were Little Auntie and Granny. Two of my ancient grandmothers in their strange heavy coats, fur-lined boots and braided long grey plaits, flanked me on the other. We rose up into the sky above my home, and I watched my slumbering form lying in the bed next to my husband, Bert the dog curled up behind my legs, and Harry at Ben’s feet. Harry tilted an ear towards me as though he had heard something, wriggled and then settled down again.

Where were the owls?

We were the owls, of course.

Off we went into the dark sky. The city lights fell behind us, the night was bright and clear, and soon we were over inland Australia. None of us spoke, but I could hear the voices of the other women in my head. They each spoke their own tongues, but still, somehow, I understood them.

‘No good, no good dat water,’ said Auntie as we flew over a wide brown river, and then a parched landscape. There was water deep beneath the ground here. I could feel its flow.

“Lost its sweetness,’ said one of my ancient grandmothers, adding her voice of concern to Auntie’s. She pressed her hand into mine and then I tasted it. An acrid chemical burn in the back of my throat. I knew it was the taste of the water below us.

‘No good,’ Auntie said again, shaking her head.

We swooped down, amid bats and fat cicadas and nightsky traffic. The air was thick and hot, and it smelled of dust and nectar.

‘Dem plants flower too soon. Too hot. All dem flowers dry up. Fall off. Wrong time for dem,’ Granny said.

On we went, over the heart of the country and onwards until we were over the ocean. Still the old women whispered to me, pointing out wonders and things of interest, but more weightily, voicing their concerns. All the animals and plants that had already died out, all of the ones now threatened and endangered. Places polluted and sullied. Air dirty. Water dirty.

‘Dis land our Mother,’ said Auntie sadly.

‘Our Great Mother,’ said my ancient grandmother.

‘She need help,’ Little Auntie said.

All of the women nodded gravely.

I knew they were looking at me. ‘What can I do?’ I asked.

‘Tell dem,’ Auntie said. “Tell dem dat Great Mother need dem. Needs help. Needs love. She a true good mother, but now her children need to show her some kindness. Okay?’

I woke from that dream with tears streaming down my cheeks.

 

 

Meditation for Sharing Energy with the Great Mother

Auntie once taught me a technique for increasing energy within the body. Let me show you how to use it to share energy with the Great Mother.

Stand outside with your feet on the bare earth if at all possible. If not, that’s okay, but do try. Now focus on either the sun, the moon or the stars. You must be able to physically see whatever you connect into. If you are ill, and bed-bound, it is fine for it to be the view outside your window.

Focus on the sun, or moon, or stars. Make a connection in your mind between you and it. Make a connection in your heart between you and the sun, or the moon, or the stars. Feel the energy of the sun, moon or stars. Feel your energy.

When you have that energetic bond, ask for help. Ask the sun, moon or stars to add to your energy. Ask to be strengthened.

Now imagine the light of the sun, moon or stars flowing to you. Flow that light into your body. Into your veins. Feel the energy and power of sun, moon or stars fill you up. Feel the connection between you. Feel the vast watchfulness, the age, the wisdom of this energy. Feel how strong that life-force is as it enters you. Feel how it cleanses and energises every cell in your body. Feel how it purifies you.

When the energy has built an intensity inside you, become a conduit. Let that energy of the sun or moon or stars run from your feet (or your hands or your heart) out into the earth, into the Great Mother. Feel it energising her, cleansing and purifying her, strengthening and healing her. As it heals and strengthens you, it is also healing and strengthening the Great Mother.

When you are done, give thanks. Give thanks to the sun, the moon or the stars. Give thanks to the Great Mother. Disconnect from those energies. Feel the difference in your own body, and give thanks for that too.

Of course, there is always more that we can do. Be a voice for the Great Mother. Make choices that are sustainable and healing for our planet – our home. Flow love and gratitude to the natural world that sustains us and provides for us. Support the people and technologies that make our world a cleaner, greener, kinder place.

We are all connected. We are all one. What we do to the Great Mother is also done to ourselves. It is time for love and kindness, for wisdom and awareness. It is time for change.

The next installment of my Kimberley Story

One of the most nurturing and empowering meditations I know is the practice I call ‘Eating the Sun’. I use it for energetic cleansing. I use it for physical healing. I use it for emotional and spiritual healing. I use it to recharge my batteries. I use it when I’m burdened and my soul aches.

It was taught to me during my time in the Kimberley by Little Auntie, with some help from Grandmother. Although it is a powerful practice it was many years before I came to appreciate just how powerful it is.

One time Little Auntie and Grandmother came to visit, waiting in the shade while their old truck was repaired by the Aboriginal stockman and our station mechanic. Their truck was always in need of repair, and the stockman was part of their extended family so they often stopped by.

I was inside on the phone, talking with a family member who was going through a very hard time back on the other side of the country. It was painful, being separated by so much distance, not being close enough to give them a hug or to play a bigger part in their lives. It made me miserably homesick.

When I came and said hello to the two old aboriginal ladies, Little Auntie took my hand in her thin bony ones and closed her eyes for a minute. As she did she made a strange humming sound. When she finally let my hand go she beckoned me to follow her.

Grandmother came with us, translating Little Auntie’s muttered greeting. “Big time sad you are. Dis no good. Heavy, heavy. Dis sadness you take him from dem other fellas. Take it in your own skin. Make dem feel better. But it sit in your body, make you sick. Little Auntie show you proper good medicine fix you up.”

Grandmother held my sweaty hand in her cool, dry one and we walked behind the diminutive figure of Little Auntie as she led us out into the paddock until we were standing under the blazing sun.

The tiny Elder motioned for me to take my boots off. And then she guided me with her hands until I was faced directly into the sun. Her leathery hand reached up, gentle as a feather, and closed my eyes, tilting my head until the heat and light penetrated my closed lids.

We stood silent for a minute. I became aware of the sun, there beyond my closed eyes. I could see it as a ball of light. The colours blazed behind my lids as a swirling mandala of reds, purples and orange. It was beautiful.

Little Auntie began to speak in her whispery-thin voice, with Grandmother translating.

“Let that sun fill you up. Feel it on your face. Feel her power come in you.”

I stood there and surrendered to the Light. As I did my body sagged with relaxation.

“Under your feet is country. Country your mother too. Get strong wid your feet. Get dat strong connection to country. Feel it like dem big roots of a tree going down down, long way into the ground.”

I did that, and slowly I began to become calm and centred.

“Now open your mouth. Eat up dat sunshine. Swallow it down into your belly. Let it burn up all dat sadness. Let dat energy fill you up till no more can get in.”

It sounded silly. Eating the sun.

I stood there with my eyes closed but I couldn’t understand how to eat energy.

Someone lightly smacked my arm. Little Aunty chastised me in a way that needed no translation. Self consciously I opened my mouth and found that I literally could eat the sun. I could feel that golden light as I swallowed it down.

She made a small self-satisfied noise as I kept eating up that sunshine.

“Now breathe out all dat sadness, all dat dark and sick place inside you. Breathe it all out and fill up with plenty more sun. Don’t you worry. Country, she take dat bad energy from you and soak it all up. Heal you and make you strong from two mothers, Mother Earth and dat good Sun.”

I breathed out, visualising wispy grey smoke leaving my body to be absorbed into the earth. The heaviness left my heart and I felt stronger and more peaceful.

“Remember say thank you!”

I offered up a heartfelt prayer of thanks.

Later, we came back to the station and drank sweet tea and ate some of Cookie’s homemade cake.

Grandmother smiled and patted my arm kindly. “We aboriginal women, we can heal dis in you. You dat ting. You can heal dis in others. Use your hands. Use your heart. Take dat pain or bad feeling or sickness and put it in your own body. But you gotta know how to clear yourself. How to heal yourself and get dat good energy back. So eat dat sun. Now you know how, eat dat sun, okay? It’s plenty good medicine.”

And she was right.

It’s a simple meditation. Here’s a summary for you:

  1. Face in the direction of the sun. Even on a cloudy day this still works. With closed eyes you can tune in very strongly. You don’t even need to be outside. You could face a window in direct light. But if you can, stand on the earth with the open sky above you.
  2. Root your feet deep into the earth. Truly feel that strong and supportive connection with country. Be barefoot if you can, but be practical too.
  3. Drink in the sunlight, drawing it deep down into your belly. Fill your whole body with light. Send the light to the places in your body that need extra healing or energy.
  4. Breathe out illness, sadness, negativity and despair. Surrender that wordless heavy energy. Give it all up via your breath, knowing that the earth will absorb and transmute this.
  5. Fill yourself up with more light, as well as sending it to specific places on the planet, or to others, if this feels right.
  6. In your own way, give thanks for this gift of energy and healing.

You can do this meditation daily, many times a day or just when you need it. And perhaps from time to time, as you eat the sun, think of Little Auntie and how an old Aboriginal woman you’ve never met, from one of the most remote parts of Australia, has gifted you something good and true.

Letting Go in 2012 – Working with the Full Moon

On Sunday, September 30, we will enjoy another glorious Full Moon. Full Moons always have an energy that works with supporting us to ‘release’ things, and as 2012 is a big year for releasing, it’s the perfect time to work on shifting and clearing old patterns, unwanted thoughts and behaviours, and limiting beliefs.  In their place we then set the intention for replacing these energies with things better suited to our positive future growth and abundance.

Every Full Moon also has its own unique energies and flavour.  Last month we were gifted the opportunity to clear ancestral and family beliefs and patternings.  September 2012’s Full Moon gifts us the opportunity to embrace more of our intuitive side.

If you are wanting to become more energetically sensitive, more psychic, and open up more of your own natural spiritual gifts and talents there is something else you can do to work in with the Astral Body energies (Sun, Moon, Planets, Stars) right now.  For the next few days, either side of the moon, you can also try this:

Meditation for Clearing, Shifting and Healing your Psychic Self

This Meditation will ground you, as it opens you up to more of your own natural energetic and psychic ability.  It is very comforting for people who spend most of their day indoors, or in front of a computer. I recommend that you do this meditative practice at least once, either side of the Full Moon, as well as the evening of the Full Moon on September 30.

  1. Find a place outside where you can comfortably stand barefoot on the skin of the earth.  Good, get your position clear.  Find a place where you can do this without interruption.  It is up to you what time of the day you complete your practice.
  2. Drink half a glass of water.
  3. Then stand barefoot on the earth with your face turned toward the sun (or the moon if you do this at night).
  4. Close your eyes.  Draw in sunlight through your heart chakra, or if it is night, draw in moonlight through your third eye.  If it’s cloudy, draw clouds and wind and rain and all those other elements into your belly via your sacral chakra (the second one up, three finger widths below your belly button. Do this for two to five minutes.  Let your body be energised, balanced and healed by the gifts of nature.
  5. When you’re finished, drink the rest of the glass of water.

Expect to feel different in the days to come.  Expect to be shown things in dreams, to become more perceptive and intuitive.  If you want to work with energy or psychic skills, expect them to become stronger and clearer.

Even if you do not want to choose a life path that is more actively spiritually and psychically connected, you will become more emotionally open, more energised, and more naturally intuitive.
