Chakra Journal Challenge: Week 2 – Base Chakra

“The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.”
~ Maya Angelou

Hello, and welcome to Week Two of our Chakra Journal Challenge!

Every Tuesday in March and April I will post a Journal Challenge for you, based upon a journey through the main chakras. You don’t need to know anything about journalling, chakras, crystals, oracle cards or energy work. I’ll explain everything that you need to do each week. Then you’ll have a week to complete the simple activities I share.

If you’re only just joining us please go back and read my Orientation Post first. It will also list all other posts in this challenge that precede this one.

About the Base Chakra

The Base Chakra connects our Soul into the power of our physical body, helping us remain in the ‘now’ or present moment.

This chakra governs and influences our ability to feel ‘at home’ and safe in our bodies and the wider world.  It connects us to our tribe – our family, lovers and friends.

It enables us to be grounded and calm, emotionally and physically strong and stable. It allows us to be in the flow of abundance, to meet our needs, to be secure, and to flourish financially, emotionally, and physically.  It is where all of our beliefs about money and the ability to support ourself resides. It allows us to be confident, self-assured, purposeful and practical.  It gives us our ‘fire’.  It governs our elimination and the ‘letting go’ of what no longer serves us. It enables us to be decisive, connected and empowered. It balances and ignites our masculine and feminine energies.

The Base Chakra is situated between your legs at the base of your pubic area, and it points down towards the ground. The colour of the Base Chakra is a bright, vibrant red.

Weekly Structure

Each week of this nine week challenge will follow the same format:

  1. We will begin with the short guided meditation for the week, using your guidance stone. During this meditation you’ll be given a colour to work with for the week, and a word or phrase.
  2. We will choose an oracle card to give us inspiration and direction for the week ahead.
  3. We will spend ten minutes (or more if desired!) to complete our weekly journal prompt.
  4. We will give ourselves healing energy at least once this week.
  5. We will spend a few moments at the end of our day in gratitude.

Guided Meditation:

You’ll need twelve minutes to listen to this short guided meditation. Feel free to hold your crystal while you meditate. When the meditation is complete, write down your power colour and your power word or phrase for the week in your journal.

Note: I apologise for the background noise in this meditation. I recorded it here in the Philippines where I am currently at a conference. This was my seventh effort, and I just couldn’t find a place anywhere that was perfectly quiet. I’ll re-record it when I get back to Australia but for now do your best to ignore the few background distractions of voices outside my room!

To listen to the recording just press play:

I love this image. So perfectly suits the visual for the sanctuary that your Base Chakra can provide!

Journal Prompts:

Now answer the following questions, writing as little or as much as you need:

  • What does your Power Colour mean to you? What words or ideas does it provoke? Write them down. Then use that colour to boost your energy. Shut your eyes for thirty seconds and breathe it into your body whenever you feel a bit flat or low. Wear it as clothing. Choose flowers in your colour. Eat food that colour. Be creative with it.
  • How can you use your Power Word this week? Write a few ideas, based on your word. Trust whatever comes and write it down. Don’t overthink it.
  • What other insights did you get?

Want to go deeper with your journalling? Try these additional prompts. Write the beginning of the sentence and then keep going, using stream of consciousness. Do one or all of them. You’ll be amazed what you might discover about yourself!

  • When I connect into the energy of my Base Chakra it makes me strong to think that…
  • When I connect into the energy of my Base Chakra it makes me scared to think that…
  • When I connect into the energy of my Base Chakra it makes me curious to think that…
  • When I connect into the energy of my Base Chakra it makes me excited to think that…

Your Chakra Card For The Week:

Take your chosen oracle or tarot cards, offer up a small prayer that whatever you do be for your Highest Good, and then shuffle the deck. As you’re shuffling, ask the question ‘What wisdom does my Base Chakra have for me this week?’ Say it out loud or hold it as a thought in your head. Either will work.

Choose one card. How you choose is up to you. Split the deck. Fan them out. Top or bottom. Dive right in. There is no right or wrong.

Now look at your card and hold your guidance stone in your non-writing hand. Really look at the card. Don’t use the book or the ‘proper’ meaning. We are being intuitive here, people! What stands out for you in the picture? What thoughts and ideas do the images provoke? Take a minute or two and write those thoughts down. I know, you might feel like you’re just making it all up. That’s okay. Write anyway. Trust that there is a part of you that is wise and that has been waiting for this chance to speak with your conscious mind.

Here’s an example of my own first pages this week, as an example:

Hands On Healing:

These simple steps can help you to unblock and activate your Base Chakra.

  1. Shake the tension out of your hands, loosen your shoulders and give your body a good energetic shake out.
  2. Lie down and make yourself comfortable.
  3. Activate your hand chakras by shaking your hands again and then rubbing them together a few times.
  4. Place your hands over your groin and direct energy into your Base Chakra. You may visualise this as bright red energy, or as your Power Colour.
  5. Give yourself five minutes of hands-on healing.
  6. It’s okay to fall asleep while doing this. Otherwise, when you are finished just lie quietly for a few more minutes to integrate the healing before shaking out your hands to finish the healing session. Be open to any thoughts or images that come to you as you rest.

Practicing Gratitude:

The Gratitude Rock anchors positive energy and gratitude at the end of every day.  You can carry your stone with you, or leave it beside your bed.  At night, before you go to sleep, hold your Gratitude Rock in your hand.

gratitude-rock

As you hold the stone say to yourself: I am richly Blessed. I have an Abundance of Good in my life. Then hold in your mind one or more image of a thing you have been grateful for today. Swell that positive energy up in your heart like a beautiful golden light, and give a heart-felt Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to the Universe. Visualise a tiny shower of golden light travelling from your heart into your Gratitude Rock.

Now here’s the fun bit – imagine all of the other people who are taking part in this journalling challenge with you. Once again build up a strong positive energy in your heart, and then imagine shooting a stream of golden light out into the Universe to those people.

Say Thank you. I Bless You. I intend for you Love, Miracles and Abundance.Know that as you are saying this for them, they are also saying this for you. Feel that connection and gratitude and know that there is real love and support for you here. Place your rock back beside your bed, and go to sleep, cocooned in this good energy.

Chakra Journal Challenge: Week 1 – Feet Chakras

About the Feet Chakras

The foot chakras are located in the soles of your foot, right about where your foot arches. The colour associated with the chakras in the feet is a rich orangey-brown colour, like terracotta.

Your feet chakras anchor you into the healing and calming energies of the earth, and help you to stay centred in your body. When your feet chakras are open and connected you’ll feel at home in yourself and at peace with the world.

I’ve added a number of activities to help you with your feet chakras, as this is one of the energy centres most blocked in people.

Hands On Healing:

These simple steps can help you to unblock and activate the chakras in your feet. If you are short on time, completing Step 7 is enough. But if you have a little more nurture time available to you, try the entire ritual:

  1. Take a large tub of warm water and place a number of smooth stones or tumbled crystals in the bottom.  Place your bare feet in the water and roll your feet over the stones until they feel energised. I like to use a variety of crystals that work with each of the major chakras so that I have a rainbow of colour. But I always advise you just to use what you are drawn to. Trust that your own soul knows best what it is you need.
  2. Dry your feet and then stand barefoot upon the earth. Look down at your feet and visualise the chakra in the sole of your foot spinning and opening and energetically connecting into the energy of the Earth. Really allow yourself to feel this connection.
  3. Shake the tension out of your hands, loosen your shoulders and give your body a good energetic shake out.
  4. Now raise your arms up to the sky and draw the energy of the sun and the moon and the stars down in through your hands and the top of your head.
  5. Draw the energy of the earth up through your feet. Feel strong like a well grounded tree, roots deep down into the earth.
  6. Have all of the energy meet at your heart; healing, balancing and empowering your entire body.
  7. Finally, nurture and nourish your foot chakras and help anchor that grounded energy by rubbing a few drops of pure sesame oil into the soles of your feet. Sesame oil also helps us open to abundance and to be comfortable with flow and positive manifestation. Rub your hands together and activate your hand chakras. (Need help to do that? See last week’s post here.) Direct white light energy into your feet chakras. After you begin it is absolutely fine if you feel that you want to change the colour of the energy healing you are giving yourself. When you are finished, shake out your hands, close your eyes and sit quietly for a minute or two. Empty your mind of thoughts and just ‘be’.

Working with your foot chakras is a simple act of self nurture than can give lasting benefits and improved well-being on all levels.

Practicing Gratitude:

The Gratitude Rock anchors positive energy and gratitude at the end of every day.  You can carry your stone with you, or leave it beside your bed.  At night, before you go to sleep, hold your Gratitude Rock in your hand.

Swell that positive energy up in your heart like a beautiful golden light, and give a heart-felt Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to the Universe. Visualise a tiny shower of golden light travelling from your heart into your Gratitude Rock.

Join Me For A New Journalling and Oracle Card Challenge?

chakra-journal-challenge-2

“The closer you come to knowing that you alone create the world of your experience, the more vital it becomes for you to discover just who is doing the creating.”
~ Eric Michael Leventhal

Keeping a journal is something I’ve done since I was a child. I don’t mean a simple diary, where you record the events of the day. You know what I mean… I ate this. I did this. Someone said that. No. I mean a place where I could explore ideas, talk with myself, and find my own answers.

Over the last few years I’ve created several journal challenges here on my blog, and I’ve just made a new one for you, to take advantage of the fabulous energies March and April bring for uncovering the hidden and neglected aspects of yourself, and for determining where you are out of step with yourself, so that you can bring your life into alignment with your true nature and values. It’s a great time for getting to know yourself better and for forging new directions in your life. Would you like to join me?

We’ll be starting this new challenge on Tuesday 28 February, so that you have time to gather your resources together. Our first Tuesday will be an orientation day. Then each Tuesday for March and April I will have a new journal activity for you to complete during the week. You’ll need a minimum of ten minutes to set aside each week for writing, and an additional five minutes per day for five out of seven days for energy work on yourself to facilitate your own healing and wellbeing. I’ll teach you everything you need to know. You can be a complete beginner at all of this!

I will be using the Chakras as a guide for this challenge. You don’t need to know anything about them either. All you need to do is bring a willingness to know yourself better.

live-true

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A new journal. Choose one that feels right for you. Make sure there are enough pages to get you through nine activities.
  • Some pens and pencils.
  • A crystal or stone to use as a gratitude and focus stone. (If you’re doing my Year of ME program feel free to use your 2017 stone for this challenge!)
  • A deck of oracle or tarot cards.
  • A sense of adventure and a readiness to explore your inner world.

NB: A note on choosing oracle or tarot cards – choose cards whose pictures and messages are meaningful to you. Avoid cards such as tarot decks that show only coins or cups etc. Instead choose a deck whose imagery really speaks to you. It’s the pictures that matter. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to use them. I’ll be showing you.

That’s my own journal, cards and stones in the picture below. I’ll be right beside you doing each week’s activities too. My gratitude rock is a smoky quartz and amethyst point (that’s the big one – the other two are a tourmalinated quartz and a prehnite that live in the same bag as my oracle cards and who came with me on my holidays). The oracle cards I’ll be using are Colette Baron-Reid’s Enchanted Map cards. And I just bought a new journal from a cool bookstore here in Vietnam, where I am currently travelling. It’s just the right size for our challenge and not too heavy in my luggage. (I won’t tell you about the other five journals I bought at the same place…)

Who’s in? Pop your name in the comments or let us know over on facebook. If you post a pic on the facebook page during this challenge, you’ll be in the running to win a cool prize! Stay tuned for details.

Much love, Nicole ❤ xx

Journal Challenge Week 8 – September 20, 2015

“Destiny itself is like a wonderful wide tapestry in which every thread is guided by an unspeakable tender hand, placed beside another thread and held and carried by a hundred others.”
~ Rainer Maria Rilke

Welcome to Week Eight of our journal challenge. If you missed the start you can go here to catch up on the tools you’ll need, and to find links to previous weeks.

This week, starting on September 20, is all about finding the threads of this new life we wish to craft for ourselves. All along our subconscious mind and our intuitive wisdom have been directing us. Look over here, they’ve whispered. Put that down – we don’t need it anymore. Choose this one, because it can bring you the sort of happiness you’ve been chasing for the longest time.

Sometimes all it takes is one magical golden thread, woven with steady hands through the drab monotony of our otherwise unsatisfying life, for us to come alive again and to understand that in fact everything is beautiful, that we do have choices, and that we can find meaning and contentment right where we are standing.

Sound good?

Let’s go!

Weekly Structure Reminder

Each week of this nine week challenge will follow the same format:

  1. We will begin with the short guided meditation for the week, using your guidance stone. During this meditation you’ll be given a colour to work with for the week, and a word or phrase.
  2. We will choose an oracle card to give us inspiration and direction for the week ahead
  3. We will spend ten minutes (or more if desired!) to complete our weekly journal prompt.
  4. We will spend a few moments at the end of our day in gratitude.

Start Here!

1. Guided Meditation

Take your guidance stone and sit or lie quietly. Then simply follow the sound of my voice. You’ll need seven minutes.

When the meditation is complete, write down your power colour and your power word or phrase in your journal.

  • How can you use your Power Word this week? Write a few ideas, based on your word. Trust whatever comes and write it down. Don’t overthink it.
  • What does your Colour mean to you? What words or ideas does it provoke? Write them down. This week, use this colour to boost your energy. Shut your eyes for thirty seconds and breathe it into your body whenever you feel a bit flat or low. Wear it as clothing. Choose flowers in your colour. Eat food that colour. Be creative with it.

2. Oracle Card

Take your cards, offer up a small prayer that whatever you do be for your Highest Good, and then shuffle the deck. As you’re shuffling, ask the question‘What do I most need to focus on this week?’ Say it out loud or hold it as a thought in your head.

Here’s my first page for this week. I love that I have both the big picture stuff – the philosophy and the life work – and the focus of my colour, which speaks to me of pink toenails, cupcakes and girl time:

2015-09-20 05.47.23

3. Week Eight Journal Prompt

On the very back page of your journal last week you wrote the words MY PROJECT, and a brief description of that thing. You also used your journal to think about what What resources you already have, and what might you need to actually make a start on this project.

Go back to the page now and place your project in a circle in the centre of the page. (If you prefer to give yourself more room and go to the  next pages in the back of the book that’s fine too.)

Draw some lines out from the circle, and then at the end of each line write down an activity or idea that relates to your project. Don’t over think it. Just let the words flow!

Here’s mine:

2015-09-20 06.00.58

Now go back to the front of your journal and answer the following question:

  1. Where are some places in my life where I can make some space for my project?

Don’t just think about making time. Also think about how you might simplify your life, or if you will need a physical or virtual space for your needs.

Write as little or as much as you want.

Do this once, or write a little every day. Whatever works for you. Hold your guidance stone in your non-writing hand or place it on your lap or beside you while you write.Genuinely seek to connect with what matters to you.

Here’s my beginnings. To get this down on paper suddenly makes things seem more do-able, more real. And that, my friends, gives me a sense of expansion and of inner peace. Maybe I CAN get this thing done after all!

2015-09-20 06.12.13

Using the Gratitude Rock:

The Gratitude Rock anchors positive energy and gratitude at the end of every day.  You can carry your stone with you, or leave it beside your bed.  At night, before you go to sleep, hold your Gratitude Rock in your hand.

As you hold the stone say to yourself I am richly Blessed.

I intend for you Love, Miracles and Abundance. Know that as you are saying this for them, they are also saying this for you. Feel that connection and gratitude and know that there is real love and support for you here. Place your rock back beside your bed, and go to sleep, cocooned in this good energy.

Happy exploring through words this week! Let your Power Word and Colour guide you. Think on the wisdom you’ve taken from your oracle card. Use it all! And remember to pop over to facebook and let us know how you’re going. I always love to hear from you.

Much love, Nicole <3 xx

Why This Teacher Is Still A Student

2015-07-25 17.30.00

“It is not that I’m so smart. But I stay with the questions much longer.”
~ Albert Einstein

I first discovered meditation when I was eleven. My dad worked for a book company, and he’d bring home boxes of books which I was allowed to trawl though. Some of them were about meditation, working with the subconscious mind and developing ‘mind power’. These were things I’d already been playing around with on my own since my earliest memories, but here they were all laid out in a book. I was hooked. Each day I would shut the door to my bedroom and practice focusing my mind, doing breathwork and other meditation methods.

Soon I was meditating every day.

Meditation soothed my anxiety, and helped me to study better. I was able to think more clearly, and to sleep more soundly.

Eventually I found that meditation was a doorway to inner knowing.

Inner knowing led to more profound intuition.

Intuition led to a deepening psychic ability.

Journalling was my other self-exploration discovery. Years later I would add crystals, Tibetan singing bowls, oracle cards and runes to my toolkit too.

2013-12-07 12.11.09

Now I aid others to connect to and use their intuition. I show them how to meditate. I help them find connection with their Higher Selves, their Guides, the Akashic Records and many more journeying and self-work techniques. I teach channelling and psychic development.

But I never stop learning.

I am no guru. I am a fellow journeyer, walking that same path toward self-knowledge and more.

Every time I run a course or a retreat I learn something. When my students sit down to do the activities I set, I do them too. There are always new insights to glean. Deeper perspectives. So many times I have been humbled by the wisdom of one of my students, and the way they have propelled my own journey forward.

And twice a day, without fail, before and after sleep I meditate.

The more I learn, the more there is to share with others. I delight in learning and in sharing. It fills me up to be able to grow and evolve. To truly create or find a new understanding.

Most of all, though, I practice. I work on one thing to gain a level of skill and proficiency before moving to the next. Some things, like meditation, will always have more for me to explore and master.

I highly recommend creating some space in your life for spiritual practice and self-reflection. Even one hour a week will help you to know yourself better, and to awaken your metaphysical abilities.

What do you need to start?

Meditation. Maybe a little journalling. A little time for quiet self-reflection. It doesn’t need to be difficult, or expensive. All you really need is you!

Journal Challenge Week 7 – September 13, 2015

“Whenever you want to achieve something, keep your eyes open, concentrate and make sure you know exactly what it is you want. No one can hit their target with their eyes closed.”
~ Paulo Coelho, The Devil and Miss Prym

Welcome to Week Seven of our journal challenge. If you missed the start you can go here to catch up on the tools you’ll need, and to find links to previous weeks.

This week, starting on September 13, is a time for focus. There is a need for us to work out what is wishful thinking (we talk about it all the time but never do it, because in truth our heart’s not in it), and what are the things that truly inspire a commitment from us. We are being called to choose our focus, to set our intention, and then to begin taking action.

We’ll also look at the things we really DO want, but where we are blocked from starting because we expect too much from ourselves, and can’t bear the thought of failure if we cannot make our dream fly.

To find happiness and contentment in life, to have a life that’s worth living – one that gets us up in the morning, no matter what the weather or our mood – we need to have a purpose or a goal, something to which we can commit. And then we can let our life be shaped by that passion.

Let’s go!

Here’s my first page for this week. My colour and power word are both an encouragement and a caution to me. Go forward, Nicole, they seem to say. Plan, dream, take action. But only do what you can manage. :

3. Week Seven Journal Prompt

On the very back page of your journal write the words MY PROJECT. Now take a few minutes and flip through what you’ve already written in your journal in the previous weeks. Look for evidence of the project or action that is truly in your heart. You may have mentioned it more than once. You may have already underlined it as being a ‘seed’ from last week’s activity. It might be a major life decision, an activity, something health related, a course of study, or even some personal healing or self-growth.

The reason you need to choose it as your project is because thinking about it makes your heart sing. And possibly freak out a bit too.  Or worse, every time you look at it you want to cry, because it’s the BIG THING. Your major block or procrastination. The thought you might not ever do this is horrifying, but the thought of failing at it is even worse.

If you want to put it down as your project because you should finish it, or start it or do it, then scratch it off. Anything that is a should isn’t your heart’s desire. It’s actually a false god, whose head needs to be chopped off. That’s not love or passion or deep desire – that’s duty. We don’t have time for duty on our project list. Our project list is only for things that truly call to us. Things to which we know we can commit.

If there are a few, that’s okay too.

Write a description of the project, or the projects, on the last page of your journal. Here’s mine (and as you might be able to tell, I was journalling from bed this morning!):

2015-09-13 05.33.59

Now flip back to where you are working on this week’s tasks.

Answer the following questions:

  1. Write a brief (or long) description of your project.
  2. What resources do you already have, and what might you need to actually make a start on this project?
  3. When you think about this project being successfully completed, how does that make you feel?

Write as little or as much as you want.

Do this once, or write a little every day. Whatever works for you. Hold your guidance stone in your non-writing hand or place it on your lap or beside you while you write.Genuinely seek to connect with what matters to you.

Here’s my beginnings. I’m excited. There is much to explore here. But truth be told I also feel a bit sick. Because. You know. This is the BIG ONE. What if I screw it up?

Using the Gratitude Rock:

The Gratitude Rock anchors positive energy and gratitude at the end of every day.  You can carry your stone with you, or leave it beside your bed.  At night, before you go to sleep, hold your Gratitude Rock in your hand.

As you hold the stone say to yourself I am richly Blessed.

Journal Challenge Week 6 – September 6, 2015

“Did I offer peace today? Did I bring a smile to someone’s face? Did I say words of healing? Did I let go of my anger and resentment? Did I forgive? Did I love? These are the real questions. I must trust that the little bit of love that I sow now will bear many fruits, here in this world and the life to come.”Henri Nouwen

Welcome to Week Six of our journal challenge. Are you beginning to know yourself a little better? That’s one of the joys of journal writing. 🙂

If you missed the start you can go here to catch up on the tools you’ll need, and to find links to previous weeks.

This week, starting on September 6, is a time for sowing seeds. I’m sure that you’re familiar with the concept of reaping what you sow. When you sow kindness, love, wisdom, industrious effort, open communication and all of those other positive energies, we are told that this energy will come back to us multiplied.

Problem is, I know too many people who have sat in that helping space and the people it benefited most was others. There’s nothing wrong with that. The world can always stand more kindness, wisdom and love. But what about us? Who is going to do that for us during our lifetime? Because there comes a time when we all need support – when we all need to eat that fruit of wisdom and kindness so that we may be recharged and renewed.

This week, we are focusing on sowing those seeds for ourselves.

Either will work.

My colour, word and card tie in meaningfully for me this week. There is a growing sense that I need to create spaciousness in my calendar and in my life so that I can focus on my healing, and on my many projects – one by one. I had never thought of clear as a colour. But it does have an energy all its own. When I think of a clear stream of water sparkling and dancing in the sun it fills me with peace and happiness. Here’s my choices for September 6:

Plus, oh my goodness, it’s my birthday! What an amazing thing to do to start my next rotation around the sun. I deserve a good cafe breakfast with Ben and Harry dog after this is uploaded for you all.

3. Week Six Journal Prompt

Take a few minutes, and a couple of highlighter pens or markers. Flip through what you’ve already written in the previous weeks. Look for words or ideas that excite you or that somehow make you feel stressed or sad. If you have no real reaction to something, move on. It has no purpose for you this week. Think of the things you have highlighted as weeds or seeds.

Now ask yourself the following questions, writing responses for each in your journal:

  1. What are the weeds I need to rip out or stop feeding?
  2. What are the seeds I need to plant and nurture in my life?

And there’s one last question:

3. What fruit do I want to harvest for my future self from these seeds I shall sow and nurture in the coming weeks, months and years?

Write as little or as much as you want.

Do this once, or write a little every day. Whatever works for you. Hold your guidance stone in your non-writing hand or place it on your lap or beside you while you write.Genuinely seek to connect with what matters to you.

Here’s my beginnings. Oh, those pesky self-doubt weeds. Did you have any of those too? I’m intending to do this exercise a few more times this week and then I’ll make a solid plan. Amidst naps, of course!
