What To Do When You’re Stuck

This week’s energies support deep diving and moving into that space of high creativity. This kind of creativity is also a spiritual space, so it’s perfect for any kind of soul work. (If you’d like a recap of the week ahead go here )

It’s awesome energy if you already have a project or plan to work on.

But what if you don’t?

Today’s post is for those of you who are stuck, those of you for whom life just isn’t working right now, those of you who are lost.

Give yourself a good half-hour to do some investigation of your stuckness (big stuck might need more time or multiple sessions – I know this from previous experience!) and gather the following tools:

  • a journal and some pens
  • a deck of tarot or oracle cards where you really like the pictures
  • your favourite crystal or stone (optional but good)

I’d also highly recommend a cup of tea or your favourite non-alcoholic beverage, because soul work can be thirsty work, and what isn’t made better by a cup of tea?

1. Start by holding your crystal if you have chosen one, and close your eyes. Allow your breathing to become calm, and let yourself relax. Then breathe in white light or draw it in through the crown chakra at the top of your head. Offer up a prayer that everything you do be for the Highest Good. Ask your Highest Self, Guides, Angels, Ancestors or God to guide you. Say or think the intention ‘Show me why I am stuck, and help me see what to do next.’

2. Open your eyes. Hold your crystal or place it beside you while you work (feel free to pick it up and hold it again if you need some energy or encouragement). Take your journal and a pen and write whatever comes, using any of the following prompts. Write your prompt into your journal and then keep writing in response to that prompt. Don’t edit yourself. Just let the words flow.

  • I’m stuck because…
  • I hate my life right now because…
  • What I really don’t like is…
  • What I really want is…
  • What do I need to tell myself right now…
  • What do I really need to know right now…
  • Who am I?
  • What do I want?
  • Where am I going?
  • What’s better for me?
  • I’d rather be doing…

3. If you’re super stuck, and nothing is coming, keep asking yourself Why? Give yourself every Why question you can think of. If you ask Why am I stuck? and then write This is stupid! ask yourself Why is this stupid? Eventually one of the Why questions will pry free all of the feelings and thoughts and answers that are stuck within you. Why are you stuck? Why can’t you do this? Why isn’t this working? Why don’t you know? Why is this a dumb exercise? Why? Why? Why?

4. You’ll end up with words on the page. Hooray! That’s the beginning of unstuckness. Go back over what you’ve written with a highlighter or a pen in another colour where you can underline key words and phrases. Highlight anything that stands out to you.

5. Now choose one of those highlighted areas to investigate further. (I told you this was a week for diving deep.) Write the words you’ve highlighted into your journal again as a new entry, Eg: My relationship with Steve. Close your eyes again, breathe deeply and bring yourself to a place of calm. Feel your energetic team and your Higher Self ready to guide you. Fill yourself with white light and really feel into that support and connection. When you’re ready open your eyes again and pick up your oracle or tarot cards. Shuffle them, thinking about your relationship with Steve. Then choose three cards. The first card shows you where you are now. The second card shows you what the issue or limitation is. The final card shows you your opportunity or outcome. Look at the first card, and really pay attention to whatever thoughts, emotions or ideas come to you, and what the imagery of the card says to you in relation to where you are now with this situation. Then write what comes to you from looking at the card. Repeat this process for the second card, looking to understand what the issues or limitations are. Now use the final card to explore what the opportunities or outcomes can be.

Be open to situations where you may now need to find a coach, mentor or qualified therapist. Sometimes we can own and understand the problem but need help framing up a solution.

Our heart knows what it wants. Our soul can guide us. All we ever need to do is make time for that questing and connection.

As you begin to get unstuck again expect more answers, more flow and a return to inspiration. You’ve got this!

Why Revelation Isn’t Enough!

As our meditation retreat comes to a close today, I’ll be guiding my students about what to do when they re-enter the flow of life again. It’s been a big week for them – lots of shifts, dawning clarity, a handful of aha moments and some potentially life-changing revelations.

But here’s the thing…

It’s not enough to have the revelation. A moment of insight doesn’t make for lasting change. What’s needed is reflection – time to think about what that revelation means in our life, and how we can best use that information. After revelation we need to have clarification and then application, or we may as well have never had that insight at all.

I’ve been teaching my students how to take their aha moments and examine them further using quiet time and deep thinking, journalling and choosing oracle cards to help them explore the situation from different angles. I encourage them to keep asking themselves ‘What does this mean for me?’ and ‘How can I best use this information?’ The answers that come from this process are where the true breakthroughs occur.

So, how about you? What realisation have you had recently that would benefit from some further analysis? Why not gift yourself some time to explore it, with the intention that you use your newfound understanding to create an action plan for change.

I’ve collected crystals and stones since I was a small child. Over time – through my own meditations, from my Guides, my Aboriginal Aunties and a few wise Elders – I have come to understand their energies, how to tune in to them, and how to use them effectively in my life.

Come join me on Retreat, here in beautiful Byron Bay, Australia, from 25 November to 1 December, 2017. Over our week together I’ll teach you a solid foundation of skills and knowledge for choosing and working with crystals. I’ll also share practices with you to help support you on your journey, and develop your natural intuitive and psychic abilities. You’ll learn simple energy healing techniques, meditation and reflective journalling and card readings, all supported by crystals.

Chakra Journal Challenge – Week 8

Hello, and welcome to the final week of our Chakra Journal Challenge!

(Sorry for the slight delay between postings. I’ve been in hospital – but that’s a whole other post.)

About the Crown Chakra

The Crown Chakra is found at the top of our head, and it is the colour white. This is the place where our mind and brain connect in with our entire body, systems and organs. It is a communication hub for the physical body, governing not just our thoughts and our emotions but our hormones, our physical reactions, our metabolism, our nervous system. The Crown Chakra is a doorway to higher awareness and profound psychic connection. It is the chakra that governs our spiritual opening and our spiritual development.

When our Crown Chakra is activated we can create a bold new vision for ourselves and our future or the futures of others. It is a centre for inspiration, divine guidance and enlightenment. We will feel the need to be a spiritual seeker, to be on a spiritual journey or to find or follow a higher calling. (This might not be spiritual – it might be a calling to write or to study or to travel for example.)

One of the issues with this chakra is that it’s where the seat of the mind is and often, by being too much in our mind, we’re unable to open up to the higher aspects of this chakra and that wonderful universal connection.

When our Crown Chakra is open and in flow we are intelligent, confident, we are problem solvers and we have a great clarity in the way that we think. We have a strong ability to concentrate and to bring and focus all of our attention upon one thing or upon one practice so that we are clear and present and very insightful. When we’re really in flow with this chakra, we are also open to higher guidance. We have a great ability to trust that we will be supported in life, and to trust that everything that we need we can draw to us.

When our Crown Chakra is out of balance  we can’t put our finger on it but  we know something’s not right in ourselves and in our life. We often feel totally uninspired – and not just uninspired, uninterested. We couldn’t be bothered. We might do what absolutely needs to be done but we don’t bother to do anymore than that. We feel a great separation from source which can manifest as deep anxiety  and neurosis. It can also manifest as a feeling of abandonment, feeling rejected or not feeling worthy.

When our Crown Chakra is not flowing well, we’re frightened to put our opinions forward, we’re frightened to serve, we’re worried about making mistakes and we can’t see ourselves or others in a positive light. It’s not necessarily that we’re critical, more that we feel hopeless or helpless and things just aren’t good enough somehow.

It’s a really powerful chakra and it’s one that can be so easily thrown out and particularly, it can be thrown out  by over thinking.

Best antidote to overthinking? Meditation, mindfulness and spending time in nature.

Weekly Structure

Each week of this nine week challenge will follow the same format:

  1. We will begin with the short guided meditation for the week, using your guidance stone. During this meditation you’ll be given a colour to work with for the week, and a word or phrase.
  2. We will choose an oracle card to give us inspiration and direction for the week ahead.
  3. We will spend ten minutes (or more if desired!) to complete our weekly journal prompt.
  4. We will give ourselves healing energy at least once this week.
  5. We will spend a few moments at the end of our day in gratitude.

Guided Meditation:

Today we’re going to use the sound of my Tibetan Singing Bowl in our meditation. You’ll need about ten minutes for this exercise.

Allow the sound to enter your Crown Chakra. Feel like you are opening a doorway in the top of your head for the sound to enter.

Then just listen to the meditation as directed.

Allow your Power Word and Power Colour to come to you.

Journal Prompts

Now answer the following questions, writing as little or as much as you need:

  • What does your Power Colour mean to you? What words or ideas does it provoke? Write them down. Then use that colour to boost your energy. Shut your eyes for thirty seconds and breathe it into your body whenever you feel a bit flat or low. Wear it as clothing. Choose flowers in your colour. Eat food that colour. Be creative with it.
  • How can you use your Power Word this week? Write a few ideas, based on your word. Trust whatever comes and write it down. Don’t overthink it.

Want to go deeper with your journalling? Try these additional prompts. Write the beginning of the sentence and then keep going, using stream of consciousness. Do one or all of them. You’ll be amazed what you might discover about yourself!

  • When I connect into the energy of my Crown Chakra it makes me strong to think that…
  • When I connect into the energy of my Crown Chakra it makes me scared to think that…
  • When I connect into the energy of my Crown Chakra it makes me curious to think that…
  • When I connect into the energy of my Crown Chakra it makes me excited to think that…

Your Chakra Card For The Week:

Take your chosen oracle or tarot cards, offer up a small prayer that whatever you do be for your Highest Good, and then shuffle the deck. As you’re shuffling, ask the question ‘What wisdom does my Crown Chakra have for me this week?’ Say it out loud or hold it as a thought in your head. Either will work.

Choose one card. How you choose is up to you. Split the deck. Fan them out. Top or bottom. Dive right in. There is no right or wrong.

Now look at your card and hold your guidance stone in your non-writing hand. Really look at the card. Don’t use the book or the ‘proper’ meaning. We are being intuitive here, people! What stands out for you in the picture? What thoughts and ideas do the images provoke? Take a minute or two and write those thoughts down. I know, you might feel like you’re just making it all up. That’s okay. Write anyway. Trust that there is a part of you that is wise and that has been waiting for this chance to speak with your conscious mind.

Hands On Healing:

This week our hands-on healing can be done at any time during the day. It’s also a great healing to do last thing at night, in bed, just before you go to sleep.

  1. Sit or lie comfortably and with a straight spine.
  2. Shake out your hands and activate your hand chakras. (Can’t remember how? Go back and review our Orientation Post)
  3. Now gently use the fingers of both hands (not thumbs) to tap lightly on your Crown Chakra on the top of your head.
  4. Then place one hand on the top of your head and one hand on your heart. Let white light flow from your hands into your body.
  5. When your body is filled with light, run white light from one hand to the other, in a  gigantic healing loop. Feel the white light connecting your heart and your mind. Feel your Crown Chakra energising and opening.
  6. Now place both hands on your chest. Flow white light from your Crown Chakra all the way down to your feet. Allow your entire body to become filled with white light. Be open to healing, insight or whatever else comes to you.
  7. Let the colour of the energy change as you do this, if any other colours come to you and feel right.
  8. To finish, lift your hands from your body, shake them out and sit quietly for a moment. Or simply allow yourself to fall asleep.

You can also do this healing  when you first wake up. Enjoy!

Practicing Gratitude

The Gratitude Rock anchors positive energy and gratitude at the end of every day.  You can carry your stone with you, or leave it beside your bed.  At night, before you go to sleep, hold your Gratitude Rock in your hand.

As you hold the stone say to yourself: I am richly Blessed. I have an Abundance of Good in my life. Then hold in your mind one or more image of a thing you have been grateful for today. Swell that positive energy up in your heart like a beautiful golden light, and give a heart-felt Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to the Universe. Visualise a tiny shower of golden light travelling from your heart into your Gratitude Rock.

Now here’s the fun bit – imagine all of the other people who are taking part in this journalling challenge with you. Once again build up a strong positive energy in your heart, and then imagine shooting a stream of golden light out into the Universe to those people.

Say Thank you. I Bless You. I intend for you Love, Miracles and Abundance.Know that as you are saying this for them, they are also saying this for you. Feel that connection and gratitude and know that there is real love and support for you here. Place your rock back beside your bed, and go to sleep, cocooned in this good energy.

Chakra Journal Challenge: Week 4 – Solar Plexus Chakra

Hello, and welcome to Week Four of our Chakra Journal Challenge!

Every Tuesday in March and April I will post a Journal for you, based upon a journey through the main chakras. You don’t need to know anything about journalling, chakras, crystals, oracle cards or energy work. I’ll explain everything that you need to do each week. Then you’ll have a week to complete the simple activities I share.

About the Solar Plexus Chakra

The Solar Plexus Chakra is located at our belly button, and it is bright yellow in colour. It’s the place where our sense of self-identity resides. It is where our personal power, integrity and self-esteem are anchored. It’s the ‘I AM’ centre of our body.

When our Solar Plexus Chakra is balanced we feel calm, energised, clear and certain about who we are and where we are going in life. We have confidence, vitality and purpose. We demonstrate self-control and sovereignty in our lives. We can also mentor and lead others from this space. Life is meaningful and we have gratitude for ourselves and our lives.

When our Solar Plexus Chakra is unbalanced we go one of two ways. For some our self-esteem and confidence can drop, we feel flat and tired, and we may be lost and confused about what is best for us and which direction to take. We make poor choices and don’t seem to care or be able to stop ourselves even though we are aware of our patterns. Some people with an unbalanced Solar Plexus Chakra swing the other way and become stubborn,obsessive, intolerant, narrow-minded, bossy and overbearing. These people become workaholics who are relentlessly driven and who take no joy from life.

Weekly Structure

Please note that I’ve been under the weather with an awful tummy bug for the past week, so I was unable to record a new meditation. Instead I am using an old recording (it’s still a good one!) but it does not specifically cover the power word and power colour. That’s okay – just set your intention that your power word and power colour will come to you during or at the end of this meditation, and then proceed as usual. When the meditation is complete, write down your power colour and your power word or phrase for the week in your journal.

  1. Lie in bed, on your back, comfortable and with a straight spine.
  2. Shake out your hands and activate your hand chakras. (Can’t remember how? Go back and review our Orientation Post)
  3. Place your hands on your belly on either side of your navel. Let bright yellow light flow from your hands into your abdomen like sunshine. You make also see or feel golden sparks. That’s great! Feel the energy moving through your belly and body, healing, energising and harmonising you.
  4. Concentrate that energy on your belly first, and then take the energy further though your body, wherever it feels most needed.
  5. Fall asleep, knowing that you will still be healing as you sleep.

You can also do this healing  when you first wake up. Enjoy!

About the Sacral Chakra

Orange corresponds to our Sacral Chakra, our centre for Creativity and Sensuality. The Sacral Chakra is located midway between our pubic bone and our belly button. It is a vibrant orange colour. This energy centre anchors us into the joys of being in a physical body and its surroundings. The Sacral Chakra is our pleasure centre, and centre for creativity in all forms, including the gift of life. When we are in flow in this chakra we are passionate, sensual, patient, creative, self-nurturing, have clear emotions and a great joy for life. We become attractive and magnetic to our desires and become natural creators and manifestors.

Out of balance in this chakra we can become workaholics, overeaters, make poor partner choices and attract ‘wrong’ partners or scare them away, we can be disconnected, shut down to pleasure, blocked creatively, and feel overly stressed and anxious.

Now answer the following questions, writing as little or as much as you need:

  • What does your Power Colour mean to you? What words or ideas does it provoke? Write them down. Then use that colour to boost your energy. Shut your eyes for thirty seconds and breathe it into your body whenever you feel a bit flat or low. Wear it as clothing. Choose flowers in your colour. Eat food that colour. Be creative with it.
  • How can you use your Power Word this week? Write a few ideas, based on your word. Trust whatever comes and write it down. Don’t overthink it.

Want to go deeper with your journalling? Try these additional prompts. Write the beginning of the sentence and then keep going, using stream of consciousness. Do one or all of them. You’ll be amazed what you might discover about yourself!

Your Chakra Card For The Week:

Take your chosen oracle or tarot cards, offer up a small prayer that whatever you do be for your Highest Good, and then shuffle the deck. As you’re shuffling, ask the question ‘What wisdom does my Sacral Chakra have for me this week?’ Say it out loud or hold it as a thought in your head. Either will work.

Choose one card. How you choose is up to you. Split the deck. Fan them out. Top or bottom. Dive right in. There is no right or wrong.

Now look at your card and hold your guidance stone in your non-writing hand. Really look at the card. Don’t use the book or the ‘proper’ meaning. We are being intuitive here, people! What stands out for you in the picture? What thoughts and ideas do the images provoke? Take a minute or two and write those thoughts down. I know, you might feel like you’re just making it all up. That’s okay. Write anyway. Trust that there is a part of you that is wise and that has been waiting for this chance to speak with your conscious mind.

Hands On Healing:

This week, let’s get some movement happening in our bodies!

  1. Ground your feet into the earth, barefoot on the ground if possible, feet hip width apart. Imagine your feet like tree roots anchoring you into the ground.
  2. Then visualise a thick ropey umbilical cord running from your belly deep down into the core of Mother Earth.
  3. Let your hips and lower body get strong and stable with the support of the Earth’s energy and then put your hands on your hips. Start circling your hips in small movements in one direction and slowly increase the size of the circle you make with your hips. (Like playing with a hula hoop)
  4. Then reverse direction, starting with small circles and getting bigger.
  5. Finally, rock your pelvis back and forth, starting with small movements and making them larger.
  6. Finish by throwing your hands up into the air, like your body is a star – reach out with your fingertips as your feet root down into the earth, neck and head long and strong.
  7. Now shake your hands out and activate your hand chakras, and then place them over your Sacral Chaka. Direct white light and the orange light into that chakra, and throughout your body as needed.

Running short on time? Just do Step 7. You can also as you lie in bed, just before you go to sleep or when you first wake up.

Practicing Gratitude:

The Gratitude Rock anchors positive energy and gratitude at the end of every day.  You can carry your stone with you, or leave it beside your bed.  At night, before you go to sleep, hold your Gratitude Rock in your hand.

As you hold the stone say to yourself: I am richly Blessed. I have an Abundance of Good in my life. Then hold in your mind one or more image of a thing you have been grateful for today. Swell that positive energy up in your heart like a beautiful golden light, and give a heart-felt Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to the Universe. Visualise a tiny shower of golden light travelling from your heart into your Gratitude Rock.

Now here’s the fun bit – imagine all of the other people who are taking part in this journalling challenge with you. Once again build up a strong positive energy in your heart, and then imagine shooting a stream of golden light out into the Universe to those people.

Say Thank you. I Bless You. I intend for you Love, Miracles and Abundance.Know that as you are saying this for them, they are also saying this for you. Feel that connection and gratitude and know that there is real love and support for you here. Place your rock back beside your bed, and go to sleep, cocooned in this good energy.

Chakra Journal Challenge: Week 2 – Base Chakra

Hello, and welcome to Week Two of our Chakra Journal Challenge!

Every Tuesday in March and April I will post a Journal Challenge for you, based upon a journey through the main chakras. You don’t need to know anything about journalling, chakras, crystals, oracle cards or energy work. I’ll explain everything that you need to do each week. Then you’ll have a week to complete the simple activities I share.

About the Base Chakra

The Base Chakra connects our Soul into the power of our physical body, helping us remain in the ‘now’ or present moment.

This chakra governs and influences our ability to feel ‘at home’ and safe in our bodies and the wider world.  It connects us to our tribe – our family, lovers and friends.

It enables us to be grounded and calm, emotionally and physically strong and stable. It allows us to be in the flow of abundance, to meet our needs, to be secure, and to flourish financially, emotionally, and physically.  It is where all of our beliefs about money and the ability to support ourself resides. It allows us to be confident, self-assured, purposeful and practical.  It gives us our ‘fire’.  It governs our elimination and the ‘letting go’ of what no longer serves us. It enables us to be decisive, connected and empowered. It balances and ignites our masculine and feminine energies.

The Base Chakra is situated between your legs at the base of your pubic area, and it points down towards the ground. The colour of the Base Chakra is a bright, vibrant red.

Weekly Structure

Each week of this nine week challenge will follow the same format:

  1. We will begin with the short guided meditation for the week, using your guidance stone. During this meditation you’ll be given a colour to work with for the week, and a word or phrase.
  2. We will choose an oracle card to give us inspiration and direction for the week ahead.
  3. We will spend ten minutes (or more if desired!) to complete our weekly journal prompt.
  4. We will give ourselves healing energy at least once this week.
  5. We will spend a few moments at the end of our day in gratitude.

 

Guided Meditation:

You’ll need twelve minutes to listen to this short guided meditation. Feel free to hold your crystal while you meditate. When the meditation is complete, write down your power colour and your power word or phrase for the week in your journal.

Note: I apologise for the background noise in this meditation. I recorded it here in the Philippines where I am currently at a conference. This was my seventh effort, and I just couldn’t find a place anywhere that was perfectly quiet. I’ll re-record it when I get back to Australia but for now do your best to ignore the few background distractions of voices outside my room!

Hands On Healing:

These simple steps can help you to unblock and activate your Base Chakra.

  1. Shake the tension out of your hands, loosen your shoulders and give your body a good energetic shake out.
  2. Lie down and make yourself comfortable.
  3. Activate your hand chakras by shaking your hands again and then rubbing them together a few times.
  4. Place your hands over your groin and direct energy into your Base Chakra. You may visualise this as bright red energy, or as your Power Colour.
  5. Give yourself five minutes of hands-on healing.
  6. It’s okay to fall asleep while doing this. Otherwise, when you are finished just lie quietly for a few more minutes to integrate the healing before shaking out your hands to finish the healing session. Be open to any thoughts or images that come to you as you rest.
