The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
~ Eleanor Roosevelt
Did you know that thoughts have great power? When we have clear goals and ideas, and attach positive emotion to them, we magnetise these mental images and begin the process of creating them in our reality. (See this post for more information: Writing as a Manifestation Tool)
What sort of future are you planning for yourself? Are there particular dreams or goals you would like to achieve?
I know a way to help make them happen, and all you need is a pen and paper.
Writing a Letter to Our Future Self…
Today we’re going to compose a letter to ourselves. Hand write it, if you can, because something magical happens when we put pen to paper. It links our heart and our mind, and carries that energy through our entire body, grounding it as it goes.
But there’s a twist. We’re going to write this letter from the perspective of already being in the future. You can choose the date. Don’t pick anything less than a year from now, but also don’t pick more than ten years. Go with what feels right for you!
Now write the letter to congratulate yourself on your achievements at this future point in time. The letter will express your hopes and dreams as if they have now happened. Talk about how proud you are, or mention the satisfaction or other positive emotions you feel.
You might want to include health, career, relationships, where you live, travel plans, investments/financial position and creative ambitions. Make your statements specific, and only include things that truly are important to you, and that fill you with hope, excitement and anticipation. Really feel this in your heart. Dream good dreams for yourself and let this be a love letter from yourself to you. Be your own cheer squad. Celebrate your life!
When you’ve finished, seal it in an envelope addressed to you, marked ‘Not to be opened until xxxx’. Then put it somewhere safe where you will be able to find it again in the future.
Here’s an example from one I wrote to myself back in April 2008. It’s obviously very personal, so I’ve chosen some random sentences and pasted them together to give you a general idea. (And it does sound quite dorky in its randomness!) The actual letter is three pages long, ambitious, and quite detailed, and almost everything I had written has come, or is in the process of coming true.
Dear Nicole,
I’m writing this letter for you to open 5 years into the future. I congratulate you on your great health…. You really look sensational, and I love what you’ve done with your hair… I’m really proud that you’ve gone out and bought yourself some beautiful clothes and that you’re finally enjoying exercise… It’s great to see your blog so loved, and that you’re reaching such a wide audience… Your writing buddies are the best and have become true friends…. And now you have a publishing deal…
I really love you, Nicole, and I’m proud of you. You deserve this happiness and success.
All my love to you,
Nicole xx
Allow yourself to enjoy this process of deliberate co-creation. It’s amazing how much we can manifest by this simple process.
And finally, a beautiful guided meditation to soothe you, relax you and help you create a positive vibration that will encourage the realisation of your dreams;
